Best Restaurants on South First in Austin | Eater Austin

"This South Asian food truck serves popular Indian dishes perfect for lunch or dinner. Start with the samosas, opt for the lamb curry or chana masala as an entree, and round out the meal with the rasmalai, a milk patty dipped in cream and sprinkled with pistachios. Takeout orders can be placed in person; there are outdoor dine-in areas." - Nadia Chaudhury

This Bombay Dhabba located in Audobon servers fantastic and delicious food. This one share parking lot and ample for customers. The restaurant is more like you order your food up at the counter and the staff brings it to your table. The interior decor is done really well and brings the memories of an Indian restaurant. The staff is friendly and able to assist with the order. We ordered nonveg combo meal for Lunch, it came with one apetizer chicken 65, Dal curry, Chicken kurma, white rice and 1 Big Naan, also with desert. The portions were just right for the price. Everything tasted really good and will visit them again. Definitely try this place.

We dined in for dinner here and had ordered indo-Chinese food, taste was ok but extremely oily didn’t really enjoy the flavors. Hakka noodles had only cabbage in it and no other veggies! Don’t think I will go back here..

I recently dined at Bombay Dhabba, and I have to say it was a delightful experience from start to finish! The moment I walked in, I was greeted by Sahil with a warm and inviting atmosphere that set the stage for a fantastic meal. The menu is diverse, offering a great selection of options to please any palate. I decided to try the butter chicken and garlic naan, and it was absolutely outstanding! The flavors were perfectly balanced, and it was evident that fresh ingredients were used. Every bite was a treat! The presentation was also impressive, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. The service at Bombay Dhabba was exceptional. Our server, Sahil, was very friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu, providing great recommendations and ensuring that our needs were met throughout the meal. It made a big difference in how much we enjoyed our time there. Overall, I highly recommend Bombay Dhabba to anyone looking for a fantastic dining experience. I can’t wait to visit again and explore more of their delicious menu! Thank you for a wonderful experience!

Google
Had Pavbhaji and Vadapav. I would say both are good. If you like spicy food make sure you mention extra spicy or Indian spicy. Some good Vadapav after a long time. Though the portion is less comparative to the price. Would come back to try some other menu next time.

This place is so good! Tried few Indian restaurants in the area and this has been the best flavors so far. Manchurian and pav Bhaji were our favorite.

Google
Nestled in the heart of Audubon, the restaurant's wooden interiors are well organized. Staff was attentive, offering thoughtful recommendations with a friendly smile. We tried lamb biryani, chicken tikka biryani, Hot Garlic chicken, chilli chicken everything was perfectly made with authentic aroma and the taste was very good. Overall, the experience was delightful—great flavors, excellent service, and an ambiance worth revisiting.

Google
This was our first time visiting. The food was SO GOOD! Absolutely wonderful. We got the chicken samosas, butter chicken, naan, and masala chai. I was so impressed as I’ve traveled extensively in India and it tasted so authentic! Unfortunately the atmosphere left a lot to be desired. Upon walking in we almost walked right back out. Amazing food but we were served water in paper cups, food was ALL served with paper and plastic dishes and even silverware was plastic. Bathroom was really neglected and dirty. When we arrived it was really slow and the cooks were sitting on the counters in the kitchen looking at their cell phones and I walked by wondering if they would be serving our food from the same counters. Unfortunately due to the poor atmosphere we likely won’t be back.

Yelp
First time here, hopefully I'm in the area again, lamb biryani was really good, nicely seasoned and really good heat (server was nice to ask how you like it so if you're a mild kind of person you can still eat here, I prefer some heat) and also had a mango lassi, very well balanced and not too sweet everything was good, server was friendly, and the music was nice

Yelp
I'm already looking forward to writing about my recent experience! We dined in and were able to order our food using their QR code menu. Despite using the QR code, the friendly staff was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. We started with the paneer tikka pizza, which had a thin crust and made for an enjoyable appetizer. For our main course, we ordered the mouthwatering chicken tikka masala accompanied by garlic naan. The food was rich in flavor, and we paired it with a Thums Up soda, which tasted similar to coke but with a hint of spices. It's a must-try! On our way out, we grabbed another soda and a mango lassi to go. We were not disappointed and are looking forward to coming back!

Yelp
As my wife and I walked in, we noticed the restaurant was decorated similar to a dhabba as you'd see in India. Immediately, we were greeted by someone who advised us to sit at any vacant table. It was dinner time so there were people stopping in for takeout. We ordered using the QR code at the table and was also able to contactless pay for our tab. We ordered a Paneer Tikka Pizza, Chicken Tikka Masala with Garlic Naan, a Thums Up, and a Mango Lassi. The food arrived in a decent amount of time and it was delicious and well-beyond our expectations. We'll definitely be going back when we're in the area!

Yelp
Very casual atmosphere masks fantastic flavors, food quality and a broad menu. One of the best Indian restaurants in the area. Perfect levels of heat...so impressed!

Yelp
My bf and I came here as per the recommendation of the nearby Indian store's employee. Perhaps I'm not familiar with the regional cuisine that Bombay Dhabba has to offer, but it was not particularly notable for me. The chicken Manchurian didn't appeal to me because it was served piping hot in a plastic container, and I didn't get the flavor or texture that I was expecting. The noodles were good and nicely seasoned. My favorite part of our meal with the masala chai. It was so good that I ordered it twice! The chai had the perfect amount of sweetness, and it was clear that the temperature and proportions were carefully crafted. We arrived to the restaurant exactly when it had opened, and more people eventually came to dine here. Overall, my bf and I were unimpressed, but I do think that I'd come back to pick up a chai. Perhaps I'm just not acquainted with the cuisine because this place clearly has a lot of good reviews.

Yelp
I have been to Southern Chennai and know Indian cuisine very well. This food is good enough, not very good or exceptional. What irritated me the most is if you order TWO entrees ... you should get TWO orders of rice I mean really. IT'S RICE.

Micky S.

Yelp
Legit Indian food. Clean and family style establishment with consistently excellent taste and service

Yelp
Ducked in late for some Indian videos and good food. We got the hot garlic Gobi. I missed the hot, and it was. Just about too much but still so well done. My son got the Makhani/butter chicken and that was safe but very good. I went Vindaloo and enjoyed that. We asked for mild and it was probably could have handled a bit more heat but we were recovering from the cauliflower. Definitely would hit this again next trip.

John B.

Yelp
I arrived early and watched them prepare my meal, really fun to be able to see them work and knew I was going to be in for a treat. Pleasant experience with the staff while I waited. This place became my new favorite spot for indian food. I've found some ok places in the area but don't think I'll stray from here. Loved the chicken methi korma, garlic naan, egg fried rice and Chana saag.

Yelp
Reliable and tastey food! The pizza is surprisingly good, second Indian pizza we've tried. Order ahead is always ready when we arrive. Parking can be a little tricky.

Yelp
Very good good....fresh and made with care We ordered paneer tikka kathi roll, had good flavor and taste... paratha is made fresh in house Ordered choley, Bhatura; jeera rice - all good! Definitely recommend Was so good I had to make a recommendation while I am eating the food! Definitely a first for me

Yelp
Found this place when Aroma Mediterraneum was closed (a great place btw). Had the lunch special and it was excellent. My wife was born and raised in Kerala and she raved about it. I much prefer the lunch special when you can get several items versus the regular menu. But it's all good,

Yelp
*WOULD RECOMMEND* Heard good things about this place from a friend's friend who used to live in India for a year so thought it was worth checking out. I placed an order for takeout through their website and was able to pick up the food at my time of choosing. I drove 30 minutes for this place. The menu had a good mix of Indian and Indo-Chinese food. I've never had Indo-Chinese food before so this was a pretty good first introduction. Their food was very flavorful, as expected of Indian food and the spices they put in, however, some were very oil. Their drinks were not that good. Overall, for the amount of food I received, amount I paid for, and the quality of the food, it wasn't bad at all. FOOD: - Achari Chicken Kati Rolls - GET THIS. The Kati roll is the most popular dish on their menu and I can see why. The wrap is similar to a crepe, maybe a bit thicker, and has a nice bite to it. The two sauce that it came one (one spicy mayo like sauce and one yogurt like sauce) made the roll with a bit of a kick and tang. The chicken was seasoned pretty well and not dry at all. I wish I asked for more of the toppings that came along with it. - Samosa Chaat - basically chopped up samosa dressed in sauce. The samosa was flavorful, parts of it still crispy. A bit on the heavy side since it's all carbs. - Gobi Manchurian - basically stir-fried cauliflower covered in this spiced red sauced. The cauliflower was well done, soft. I've never had this before so I can't compare it to anything but flavor wise, it was good -Chicken Korma - very flavorful, spiced well, however, very oil. There was a layer of oil sitting on top of the sauce. I've had better korma elsewhere that is less oily. DRINKS: - Chai - barely any flavor, would not get again -Mango Lassi - a bit too thick and creamy to my liking. Taste pretty good though, not too sweet *VERDICT* Overall, the food is pretty good. I would go again if I was in the area but I would not go 30 minutes out of my way to do so.

Yelp
Just great food with a great selection. Never a bad order and done quickly. Best for takeout and delivery.

Yelp
Went there last night (Thursday) and it was empty. Food was horrible!!! Me and my husband ended up with upset tummies. Ordered: Masala tea - was good Madras coffee - was good Vada pav - dripping oil! Horrible! Chicken hakkah noodles mild - tasted very weird.. as if a bunch of ketchup was added.. horrible Aloo tikki chaat - was tasty! And I have to add that their service is good because I let them know it was too spicy for me the first time they made it so they offered to make another one for me. Very very disappointed as I really used to enjoy the food here.

Michelle H.

Yelp
Employees are very welcoming and nice. Food is excellent and flavorful with just the right amount of spice!! Adding this to our list of go to's! Thank you!!
google avatar

Clyde N.

Yelp
The food was hot (in temperture) and hot (in flavor). My family enjoyed it and the naan was very soft and moist. Everyone enjoyed their dish and the COVID-19 take service was very good. If/when I am in the area again, will stop in for more great Indian food.
google avatar

Lucy S.

Yelp
Great food!!! I come here for lunch and dinner and the portions are huge and always such amazing Indian food. Definitely stop in you won't regret it!

Ananya S.

Yelp
NO NO NO. And just NO. If you're looking for Indian-Chinese, please look elsewhere. I ordered for a simple Hakka noodles, and what I got was an inedible sloppy mess doused with a spicy sauce and tandoori chicken pieces. Clearly, these guys do not know what they are doing, or they dare not call it Hakka Noodles. What makes me livid is why put it on the menu, if you have no intention of serving it authentic?
google avatar

Yelp
No one likes to cook on the weekend especially on Saturday night so my lady and I ventured here for a tasty affordable and flavorful meal. We decided to eat-in quickly figured out the technology required to submit our order. The food came out rather quickly and we were able to try all the sauces they had to offer during the meal. The lamb Kati came with special seasoned waffle fries and we got the veggie fritters to share. I was impressed with the flavors and amount of food based on the price. I definitely will be going back again soon.

Yelp
The McDonald's of Indian food! Some dishes are good , others not so much . Definitely worth a try if you need a quick fix for Indian food. I loved the chole batura, and I tried the aloo tiki chaat. I think their breads are good. They also do catering but I haven't tried them for that!
google avatar

Yelp
This is one amazing place to be !! Just went for a snack n stuffed my tummy with Pav bhaji, Mirchi bajji, vada pav, onion pakora, pani puri and what not!! just loved it..

Komal S.

Yelp
I came here on a Friday night and the place is pretty empty. I was hoping for the best and wanted to give this place another shot. We ordered a kathi roll, pav bhaji and papdi chaat. The kathi roll didn't have much in it. But the thick buttery paratha roll was good. But then again, that's not all a kathi roll should be. The pav bhaji was no good. Basically a purée of tomato and potato with some pav bhaji spice. And the papdi chaat was okay, but nothing I'd come back for. Unfortunately even the mango lassi tasted as if the dairy went bad in it. We ended up throwing away the whole meal after a bite of everything. Sucks wasting so much food :( I really wished that this time around things would've tasted better. Ordering system is easy and still cool. Place is clean. But the food was sub par.

Yelp
Easy to order kiosks. Good amount of seating. The Gobi Manchurian and paneer Kati roll were very good. Not the spiciest and we got medium spice. Curry and naan options too as well as other apps. Plenty of parking in the plaza.

Yelp
I will come back for lunch... Ambience- 4.5/5 for a casual eatery The ambience is chic. The Tin fixtures on the wall, giant Bollywood posters, wood work and lanters at the kiosk, they really went the extra mile. I liked the casual indian dhaba like vibe. I have to really appreciate the hip and peppy Bollywood music they were playing this sunday afternoon. The self order wawa-style machines were very easy to work with. This is a great place to grab a quick bite. The menu is not overwhelming at all, great for someone who wants to try Indian cuisine for the first time. Taste- 4/5 We ordered Chilly Chicken, Paneer Bhurji Roll, Achari Chicken Roll. We started with the Chilly Chicken and it was Bomb. Chicken was super tender on the inside yet crispy on the outside. The dish was served piping hot which we appreciated in the Cold PA weather. The veggies in the chilly chicken had such a crunch and bite to them, the sauce was packed with flavors, yumm. Next i tried the fries that came with the rolls. ohh god, these were phenomenal. They have some magical seasoning (called masala in india) on the waffle cut fries and that added such a unique taste. I cudnt get enough of these. Next time might have to order these separately. We had high expectations for the Kati rolls but i was blown away by these. I liked the Paneer bhurji roll. It had more than generous paneer stuffing. The paneer stuffing could have had more flavors but still was enjoyable. My husband who doesnt care for vegetarian, liked the paneer roll better than chicken. The achari chicken should have had a lot more tanginess and flavor to it. I would still like to try try more items here. Would surely be back.

Yelp
Unique concept, never seen one like this before. We have to order everything in a computer. The Sardarji, behind the counter was very helpful to us. The owner however, got annoyed when we had questions. Excuse us, as this is our first time using your system and we do have questions! Hubby said he enjoyed the Saag Paneer and parathas, hence the 3 stars. The Hakka noodles were just ok for me. The Gobi Manchurian was under cooked or should I say cooked in hot oil too fast as the outside was way too crispy and the inside, the batter was raw.
google avatar

Michael I.

Yelp
Oh my word this was so delicious. Had the lamb tikka platter with rice and curry. Naan bread on the side. The curry was amazing. So many flavors, right, spicy, and aromatic. It was wonderful. The blend of all the flavors together were perfect. Having a sweet lassi with it all balanced out the spice. By the end, I was in tears with my nose running. From joy or from the spice, I'm not sure, but it was worth every bite. Highly recommended!
google avatar

Yelp
Good food, good people. More of a snack place. I would go back for the snacks. I had the aloo chaat and samosas

Becca H.

Yelp
Ate lunch here after a float trip in Phoenixville and it was a great surprise. Absolutely incredible flavors. Hoping to get a chance to visit again.

Yelp
Unique and contemporary.. Anything you order here will be made authentically and tasty. These guys know how to cook and anyone who wants to try Indian food without spending a lot of money should come here. Definitely try the Kati rolls and the chats along with a cup of masala chai!

Anna E.

Yelp
My go-to Indian restaurant in the area. You can't beat the food quality! They can make it spicy too to your preference which is great. My favorite is the goat curry and lamb vindaloo (medium spiced) which they make with amazing flavor. The garlic naan is also amazing so you can't go wrong with this.

Moon K.

Yelp
Consistently good, tried cholay bhature, samosa, vada paav and Mango lassi. Mouth watering dishes. I can vouch for their cholay bhature - they are simply THE BEST. 1) Food is always hot 2) Spice level has always been consistent 3) They package your food really well 4) They pack extra onions (in vinegar) to go with the cholay bhature 5) They pack extra pickle (acchar) 6) When you order Samosa's they give green and tamrind chutney which enhances the flavor.

Yelp
Came across this place while shopping at KOP mall.. loved the menu.. awesome filter coffee and paneer bhurji.. Nice new cosy place.. great idea for have a self ordering system

Yelp
Great atmosphere! However, the food was below exceptional. I went on a Saturday afternoon and I really wish I had not gone because it ruined my entire Sunday. The next day I had an upset stomach and every unpleasant drive back to NJ. Anyhow, I will not be returning. But that should not stop you from trying and forming your own assessment. Advise! Do it on a day your off just in case you end up getting an upset stomach. This way you can rest and recover. I ordered Chaat Samosa and Chilli Chicken. Anyhow good luck!

Michael T.

Yelp
My wife (who is from India) and I have eaten here many times. It is her favorite place. She says it's the closest she's had to authentic Indian street food since coming to the states. Out of all the Indian food places in the area we've tried, this is the only one she will recommend to anyone. Food comes out hot and is always delicious. We highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Loved the food at this eatery, especially their pav bhaji and their mango lassi. Their service is excellent . Great tea ..

Yelp
Updating my review because the owner of this business asked for more details. Let me start off by saying, I'm not a competitor by any means, I don't own or manage any business and my review is strictly based off the food I've eaten at this establishment. Please check my older reviews for clarity. The food was definitely salty and the owner asks me, why would eat it if it was salty. Fair point, I only ate the Kati roll and my wife and I finished the bhaji only because we're polite and hungry. We packed the noodles home and didn't feel really good because of the food. We ended up throwing the food rather than finishing our meal. Please check your CCTV footage and I'm pretty sure they will tell you the same story. Businesses improve by taking customer feedback not by accusing them to be fake reviewers, just FYI to the owner.
google avatar

Yelp
Good food, very reasonable prices, good service. Have been here several times, their kathi rolls, veg and non veg platters are the best items on the menu. Indo Chinese tends to be very oily, but you can let them know before making and they adjust. More than once when some item was not up to mark, such as not cooked through or stale, they agreed to replace with another item. Mango lassi is good. Overall, I would recommend to friends for a quick, inexpensive, and Mumbai street food option.

Yelp
We caterers food at my daughter graduation party for 125 people. It was amazing, tasty food.people still remember it. And give lots of compliments. We ll give 5 out 5 star for everything specially, taste and customer satisfaction. owner took special interest and gave suggestions about quantity and prices and what to order.food was hit among teenagers.

Yelp
Update: changed 4 stars to 5 stars, I've been consistently getting very good food from here. The Mutter Paneer is incredible. I highly recommend Bombay Dhabba The chicken Biryani was very good. The rice was awesome and there was lots of perfectly cooked chicken kabob w it. I paid around $14 which is mostly fair as this does serve two people. I'll come back, and it's cool that they're open till 10. One thing is that they take spicy for real. I ordered it mild and it was great, and at non-indian food spots I typically ask for hottest. Also, takes 10 mins to prepare but this should be expected for any kabob meat anywhere. Really glad I tried this pa

Hector P.

Yelp
The food here is amazing! The owner is sweet and catering! She takes pride in providing good food and good service! My favorite place to eat!

Yelp
im not the biggest connoisseur of indian food but this place was great. im also not the biggest spicy fan either but i go their dhabba curry and it was GREAT. not too strong and very flavorful. get the dhabba curry the naan is cooked fresh every time and the manager/owner is SUPER helpful and friendly. really enjoyed my experience and you know its a good choice when you see individuals that appear indian dining there. so many to go orders too. i will be back the garlic naan has real garlic so you've been warned ORDER: at counter JEANS: OK by far

Yelp
Yay I found my favorite Indian food place. This place is so close to us and I'm a little upset I just found this last weekend. I saw the great reviews on Yelp and thought it's very unique and interesting - a place that sells Indian street food. I am always a fan of street food, never tried Indian street food before so I was super excited. Right when we got here, we noticed the ambiance is pretty fun, very colorful, and they have Indian music in the background. I thoroughly enjoy my experience eating here. We got their Kati rolls , we tried chicken and lamb ones. We did not know they came with the masala fries, bonus! We really enjoy our Kati rolls and we will definitely be getting these again. The food here were so good, I decided to come back with my coworkers during week day and tried their platter. Yum once again the food did not disappoint. Let me tell you their Kati rolls, mango lassi, and garlic Naan are the bomb, me and my coworkers were raving about how tasty they are. The only thing I did not like was their veggie pakora, it's a bit too salty for me. Anyway, I def will come back here very soon. Just thinking about our next dinner trip here makes me so happy!

Yelp
Love this place! Wish it was closer for me because I would be here every week! The atmosphere is very chill and casual and I love the touch of Bollywood posters with the logo art work and food words art on the wall. Personally, I'm not a paneer person but their paneer Kati rolls have me changing my mind about paneer. I crave these way too frequently! I also really enjoyed their pav bhauji and daal tadka. Every Indian place I go, I have to test the daal tadka. This one hits the spot for me. Great ginger garlic and spice flavor. I also like that they have specials and are adding new items to the menu. Makes me want to come again and again to see what's new and to make the tough choice of sticking by something tried and true or being adventurous to try something new. This place will not disappoint!
google avatar

Justin D.

Yelp
Went out here with my wife, and the food was amazing! The space felt new, fresh and clean which I appreciated. My only concern was that I had to order from a touchscreen and didn't really know what the different meals/names meant and what they would include/taste like. I would have preferred to have a person there that I could ask to describe the options and flavors

Yelp
I thought this place was good a few months ago when it first opened -- I regret waiting this long to return. They are on a whole new level now! This restaurant is an enigma -- nestled in between Gamestop and a gym in a shopping center is this seemingly fast-casual Indian takeout place. Au contraire! You can order from high-tech screens, the decor has a modern-industrial vibe, and the prices are very affordable. But that all distracts from the fact that Bombay Dhabba is the single most flavorful Indian cuisine I've tasted in Pennsylvania. I went in with assumptions, but upon my first scoop of Lamb Rogan josh sitting upon with delectable Garlic Naan, my assumptions were shattered into a million pieces. There were distinct notes of garlic, ginger and fragrant masala spices, onion, and I think I tasted cloves, bay leaves, cardamom, and cinnamon. They add tomatoes to the Rojan josh to suit the Western palate, but hey, I'm a suburban kid from PA, I'm not complaining -- I love it! I also had the mixed Veg Pakora which are veg fritters deep fried in chickpea batter. They were delicious, they weren't oily like most Pakoras I've tried, and they paired perfectly with housemade mint chutney, Raita, and Tamarind sauce (which they make with dates!). Last, I tried the Mango Lassi which was super refreshing, flavorful and had a great creamy consistency. Actually, I lied! I also got the Rasmalai, which is a dessert made from sweet milk patties which dipped in cardamom flavored milk with and crushed pistachio -- it was like a Tres Leches cake filling and absolutely divine! If you like Indian food then do yourself a favor and go here, it's top-notch.

Yelp
Seriously.... 5 stars. I love Indian food, but the restaurants close to home cook with a bit too much oil? grease? But on this business trip I perused YELP and found my new to-go spot! I come to the area twice a year and this is DEF on my list. I came in wanting a Saag Paneer but then saw the Chicken 65 Biriyani and I changed my mind. I also wanted to try the Chicken Roti but shouldn't have ordered it. Even though I ate EVERY. SINGLE. BITE. with pleasure I couldn't finish my Chicken 65 Biriyani. I can't take tons of heat but this heat was nice... definitely NOT mild for the weak of heat, but try it. You'll love the heat. If my hotel had a fridge, I would have brought the rest home and ate my left overs for breakfast! Yup - that good. The manger/owner? was really nice and took his time explaining how to order on the touch screens. The place is really clean has music playing and bollywood movies on with subtitles since you can't hear the TV over the music. IF I weren't so tired from my trip into town, I would have stayed and finished the movie. Great casual place for some good home cooking for a great price. I'm here for 4 days and look forward to getting my Saag Paneer soon!
