The Best Indian Restaurants in Nashville | Eater Nashville

"Another West End favorite, Bombay Palace draws crowds during its lunch buffet, which features traditional Indian favorites like vegetable korma, chicken curry, and tandoori chicken. While there’s no shortage of solid Indian restaurants on the west side of town, this strip mall gem keeps diners coming back with its consistent quality and accommodating staff." - Jackie Gutierrez-Jones

Nice ambience! However, average food quality and ignorant staffs is what I experienced during my visit when I was at Nashville. Papad seemed to have fried is stale oil. Chicken 65 was definitely not freshly prepared! Vegetable biriyani seemed like veg fried rice! It wasn’t a really a great experience at all.

WHERE DO I BEGIN?! This is my favourite restaurant in all of Nashville! Over the years we have really grown to adore the staff working here! It’s always so welcoming to folks waving them in with a smile :))) They have amazing music playing all the time, super nice ambiance with formal tables/booths and beautiful chandeliers and art everywhere! The garlic naan is hands down the best I’ve ever had always so buttery garlicky with that little crunch, ugh it’s just to die for! The biriyani with any meat is fantastic but my favourite entrees are definitely the lamb tikka masala and the chicken korma! They are so generous with rice and everything’s always 10/10 on flavor and spice! And definitely try a mango lassi if you’re thisty! Overall I adore this place, I literally brought everyone I know here after I graduated! We love Bombay Palace over here, so check them out some time!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Google
Great food! Came for the buffet today and was greated and seated immediately. The buffet is from 11-2:30pm and had a variety of options! Love this place

Google
Usually go for a chicken Masala but the Waiter recommended the Madras. Highly recommend this spot, parking is very limited but the food is very good. Fried Goat cheese was also good as well.

Google
Came here for lunch Did not get offered a menu so I assume they only have a buffet available at this time. Service was as good as the good. Less than mediocre. The restaurant has plenty of booths and tables/chairs to accommodate different group sizes. Tables were clean. Some areas behind the register looked some what neglected. Some food item signs could be rewritten to make the legible. Food was just something to fill you up. No flavorful items stood out Food was not hot, it was just warm. Nothing in the buffet stood out as a must have or must try again. Maybe their made to order meals are better but I will likely not return to try any items from this restaurant. I do not recommend.

Google
First time visiting and i ordered the lunch buffet. It was ok 4 choices of meat and about 5 choices of vegetarian.. there's a small salad section. The chicken on my plate was less than warm when i got it. The overall taste reminded me of my travel to India 3 months ago! The buffet was closed at 228pm.. so even though you paid for the buffet is not available after 230pm. 2 customers came in st 215pm, the servers told them to take all they needed now as it's going to be closed. I wouldn't recommend for this reason... cold food isn't the same as warm/hot.

Google
Yummy food. Amazing people. Smaller but gets you what you need for Indian food. They rite different dishes out so not all buffet dishes are the same everyday

Yelp
Bombay Palace is an iconic staple of not just good authentic Indian food in Nashville, but also phenomenal service! When dining-in, every table automatically gets a tray of condiments to complement the complimentary serving of Papadums. The menu boasts a huge variety of North Indian dishes that will satisfy even those with the most restrictive dietary needs. Pescatarians, Lacto-vegetarians, Vegans or if you have non dairy requirements can all be met easily with modifications. A dish that I've fallen in love with at Bombay Palace is known as Chicken Methi. The Methi (Fenugreek leaves) gives a distinct flavor and the creaminess makes the dish just melt in your mouth. If you prefer non cream based dishes, there are coconut cream or even cashew based curries that you can request. A meal is not complete without an order of Naan which is a type of bread that is cooked in a tandoor oven. Depending on your preferences, you could try just plain, butter, chilli or Garlic Naan which is my favorite! Bombay Palace is also known for their Lasso which is a yogurt based cooling drink to wash down the spicy dishes. Try their Mango Lassi and you can't be disappointed! Ending the meal with Gulab Jamun which are fried balls of dough soaked in a sugary solution is the perfect desert in my opinion. I must add that despite the awesome quality of food you get at Bombay Palace, it's nothing compared to the service of the wait staff! If you ever get to be served by Manish or Rinku, then you'll understand that you must bring your A-game to join in the playful banter that awaits their regular customers. You won't regret making Bombay Palace a regular pit stop. Guaranteed!

Yelp
The food was mediocre at best, very plain and uninspired. I love Indian food but really did nit enjoy any of this food. The service was ok I guess, nothing special either way. Decor and environment are decent, it feels very crowded and red. Just in general I'm having a hard time reviewing this place because of how little I enjoyed it. I'm sorry usually my reviews are better but I am so dissatisfied with this visit.

Yelp
The menu is so extensive and every dish is just beyond flavorful. I've both dined in and gotten take out/delivery, and each time it just HITS. The inside of the restaurant is also really cute and red and neat. Here's what I've tried: Malai Kofta: 10/10 - The curry is sweet, spicy, very thick, and flavorful. The balls of cheese and vegetables are soft on the inside, and well cooked. This is such a great vegetarian dish and I HIGHLY recommend it. Chicken Cashmere: 9.5/10 - The curry is super creamy and flavorful, and even a bit sweet. It's very similar to the Malai Kofta, except there is a little bit less depth of flavor and the texture is smoother and less thick. This is a great option if you want some good protein. Chicken Curry: 7.5/10 - I enjoyed it, but I prefer creamier, richer Indian dishes. This was super flavorful though so if you want something less heavy it isn't a bad choice. Garlic Naan: 10/10 - Always get garlic naan over normal naan. It's just so much better. The naan is fluffy, and smothered with a beautifully aromatic garlic butter. Kachumber Salad: 8/10 - I always order this just so we can have some greens. They're diced up peppers, cucumbers, and tomatoes in a light vinaigrette. very fresh, and a really good way to break up the heaviness of the rest of the meal. Chicken Tikka: 8/10 - This is not Tikka Masala, this is boneless chicken marinated and then cooked in the Tandoor. You get a LOT of chicken, and personally, my favorite part are the nice almost caramelized onions that come underneath the chicken. Nicely spiced, but I do think that if you go to Bombay, you should get a curry, as just chicken can get dry/boring. Lachha Paratha: 8/10 - Really good Paratha! I just think naan has a better texture and is more flavorful, but the paratha here is nice and flaky. My family also really likes their Papadum and their Tandoori Chicken. You can customize your spice level with pretty much any dish, just let them know!

Yelp
This Indian restaurant offers delicious food and a lunch buffet that looks amazing. Although I could only try one item from the buffet, my husband said everything on it was delicious. Instead, I ordered the garden vegetable and mango dish from the menu, which was incredibly tasty and perfectly spiced. The service was excellent, with frequent water refills and quick plate clearing. The restaurant is nicely decorated in an Indian style, and the music added to the enjoyable atmosphere. The only downside was the challenging parking in front, but there might be more parking available at the back. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant for its tasty food and great service.

Yelp
Authentic Indian food in Nashville, the food tasted great and we loved the chai so much we had to go back next day for it. Worth a try.

Yelp
I ordered a bunch of food from Bombay Palace to go and although I know it does not travel well, I must say I was a bit disappointed by the lack of flavor. The flavors and spices in the chicken tikka Marsala were so bland. I also ordered the veggie pakora which was good, but again lacking in spices and flavor. The cauliflower with the hot sauce was again lacking in flavor. I made the mistake of ordering the samosas that come in the yogurt and sauces and I wish I did not do that. The samosas would've been better on their own. I will try to check them out in person but overall.. I have to say I just wish they would put more flavor and spice in their foods.

Zachary B.

Yelp
Solid good food. Service is good, Indian lunch buffets are the best. This one is also very good. Ambiance was typical

Yelp
Ordered takeout from here, got: - free vegetarian samosas: the breading was a bit thick, inside wasn't super flavorful. Liked the mint chutney that came with it. - chilly paneer: didn't like the fried paneer, paneer also wasn't very soft. The flavor wasn't great, could've been stronger - subzi vindaloo: lots of vegetables which I liked. Flavor could've been stronger here too - bread basket: came with plain, garlic, and methi. Chewy bread, pretty tasty, couldn't really taste the garlic or methi but good with the curry - mango lassi: thick yogurt drink, not too sweet, mango flavor was alright - kheer (rice pudding): quite flavorful, not too sweet, enjoyed it Amount of food was pretty good, came with rice as well.

Yelp
The food was delicious and the service was excellent. The building was old but the restaurant and restroom were clean.

Yelp
The food is always fresh and hot. We also receive great service no matter how late we walk thru the door

Yelp
Great food and service! I absolutely love the chicken tikka masala - the sauce is just perfection. It is super creamy and goes well with the white chicken bites, which was juicy. I got medium spice, which wasn't spicy at all. I haven't found another sauce like this on their menu but I would love to try a similar sauce to it. As a side, I got the garlic naan and that was fresh and good. I would recommend getting the naan to dip into the sauces. I got a Mango lassi and it was fresh as usual. Beware this may fill you up before your meal haha! For parking, they have a small lot in front but a bigger lot behind it that may be hidden.

Yelp
I was so hungry and the food was so good I had no time to take pictures. From the outside the place seems like a hole in the wall but once you step inside you find the decor simple but cozy. We were greeted immediately and seated. Our server was very attentive and never let our water run out. I personally felt the food was authentic as they come. My husband is from India and had nothing bad to say about the food. In fact he loved the garlic naan so much he ate all of mine as well. They had a nice selection of entrees and I believe there would be something here for everyone. When you order they ask your spice level, and I'm honestly not sure what the scale was but I said 4 and my husband said 6. I felt the spice level was pretty spot on for what my expectations were, which is basically "as long as it doesn't hurt me tomorrow", if you know what I mean. One thing to note is that as cozy as the place is....well it's cozy. You will be able hear the surrounding tables conversation and vice versa. Probably not so bad if the place is 75% full but there were only 3 tables occupied during our visit so we heard a lot.

Yelp
Food was absolutely delicious. I love India food and have never had an Indian buffet. I was in heaven. Especially it being less than $15. The service was good and you could tell everyone was enjoying the amazing food.

Sienna H.

Yelp
Excellent service. The food was fast to come out. I ordered the paneer tikka and it was delicious!! However I wish there was a little bit more rice, so in the future I would definitely recommend asking for a side of rice.
google avatar

Maureen B.

Yelp
We love Indian and we were in the area to check out. The service was a bit slow and the food was pretty good. The Shahi paneer really tasted like green peppers which was odd for me as I have had this a lot of places and expected a different taste. The other dishes were about what you expect. We do not live in the area so would not be back. Maybe we would check out other indian restaurants to try the variety Nashville has to offer on our next return.

Shannon M.

Yelp
This place was recommended to me by a friend. I went during lunchtime and they were serving an Indian style buffet so I got a taste of different Indian dishes. The food was good and for the price you pay you won't be disappointed. I walked out of there stuffed.
google avatar

Goutham H.

Yelp
The ambience was ok. Food was cold and bland, all curries tasted same without much flavor or spices; Chilly chicken was sweet :)... Service was poor, we were told not to reuse the plates, which is fine, but the way it was told was not cool, they sounded loud and rude. Overall, not a great experience, needs improvement.
google avatar

M M.

Yelp
absolutely phenomenal!!!! We ordered the rogan josh and makhani chicken, of course with some garlic naan. my husband also got a mango juice. The service was great- we had waters and they never even got a chance to get low because the server was so quick to refill. The inside is nice and cozy and the food presentation was so good. The food had some spice but still maintained flavor. My husband doesn't like spice so he got the mild level, and it was still extremely flavorful. Overall, we LOVED this place, and wish we lived local so we could return!!
google avatar

Joiliana L.

Yelp
This was pretty good! I ordered delivery. I got vegetable samosas, chicken makhani (butter chicken), and naan. The samosas were very tasty 5/5. The chicken makhani was good with tons of sauce. Would've appreciated more chicken, 4.5/5. The naan was good too, nice and fluffy. I'd love to try some more items off their menu.
google avatar

Juan J.

Yelp
solid food not spicy even when i asked for spicy. with delivery orders you may want to include utensils when you send to a hotel. not fun eating curry with fingers and when you pay $4 for a sparkling water make sure it's cold
google avatar

Taara H.

Yelp
A solid Indian restaurant!! They have your standard, tried and true, selection of delicious Indian food, so there will be something for everyone. I got my order for take out (random pregnancy craving while down in Nash from Clarksville), but the inside was nice and clean with patrons relatively distanced. Everyone had on masks as well - kudos! After all, we are in a pandemic yall!! I opted for 2-piece veggie samosas, kachumber salad, and the ever-popular/my favorite, chicken tikka masala with a side of garlic naan. The baby bump and I were thoroughly pleased with the mini Indian spread and so very glad we stopped by before the highway trek back home. The veggie samosa was delicious and this is the first time that I've actually liked the green dipping sauce that comes with it!! I should know the name of it, but I never liked it until now, so I don't, haha. When I come back, I'll be sure to ask. I was also pleased their chicken tikka masala wasn't too sweet nor too spicy. It's was just perfect with the creamy flavor! They give plenty of sauce so you can dip the naan into it - which I love love love to do! The chunks of chicken were nice and tender as well. I crunched on the kachumber salad along the way - and always feel better having something light and flavorful to go with such a rich entree. It's in a small, "whole in the wall" type strip mall, so you're not going there for ambience (there's a Piggly Wiggly at the end if that clues you in, LOL); however, you won't be disappointed if you want some solid Indian food that'll satisfy your taste buds :) I recommend giving them a try! I'll definitely be back ;)

Yelp
What a hidden gem. I stopped in to Bombay with some friends, and was not expecting such delicious food. Service was fast and friendly. We ordered two plates and split among 4 people. So delicious!!! 10/10 recommend stopping in, you will not be disappointed. They have varying levels of heat for those wanting more or less spice.

Chelsea F.

Yelp
Favorite Indian spot! I've always loved this place in person but can confirm that their takeout is equally as yummy and fresh.
google avatar

Myranda M.

Yelp
I dined in for lunch at the knoxville location and I go regularly! The food is always freshly cooked and hot! I just love how all meals will come with your spice preference level!! The staff come to you with smiles and energy! They are good about making sure you get everything you need and want, they are also good about refilling drinks!
google avatar

Amy P.

Yelp
I ordered the chicken tikka masala, tandoori chicken, samosa chaat, and garlic naan to-go. Inside the restaurant seemed really nice and the staff was friendly when I came to pick up the meal. My favorite was the samosa chaat! The tikka masala was good as well, but it was not as spicy as I hoped it would be. The garlic naan was large but decent. I would definitely go back and try some other dishes.

Jack K.

Yelp
Some of the best Indian food I've ever had. The service is also incredible and would certainly come back here!!
google avatar

Jazzy S.

Yelp
Solid Indian restaurant. Probably my favorite Indian food I've found since moving to Tennessee. The lunch buffet was the best but not sure if they're doing that anymore because of COVID. - Chicken tikka masala (5/5): always my go to. Love the flavor. Tender chicken. Just overall one of the best. - Garlic naan (4.5/5): so good. I love naan and dipping the naan in sauce. Love when it's dough-y and fresh.
google avatar

Pamela D.

Yelp
Friendly staff and the food is to die for. The naan bread is big and soft. Love the chicken tikka here. It's my fave place.

D S.

Yelp
Love this place. First time we've been back since before Covid, and it was just as good as I remember. The food is great, of course, but we especially enjoy the very professional service, prompt and efficient without rushing or overlapping the courses, alert to our needs and available without interrupting conversation with stupid questions like "Does ever thin' taste oh kay??" The only minor glitch was when upon arrival, the young lady acting as hostess tried to seat us in a crappy table at the door despite the early hour and nearly empty dining room. She was compliant in letting us choose a good table, though, and everything was wonderful after that.

Hunter H.

Yelp
Garlic naan was great. The interior was really neat. Lots of chicken bones in the butter chicken.

Tracy T.

Yelp
food was amazing coming from orlando we wanted something just as good as our go to place at home and we definitely found it. They also have a lot more options than a typical indian restaurant and we got chicken tikka and mahkani 10/10
google avatar

Paige E.

Yelp
Food tastes great and great portion size! Wait staff is great. Parking is a little limited. Small menu but so worth it
google avatar

Bailey P.

Yelp
Good food but expensive. I visited on a Tuesday night and got the last parking spot up front. They only have a few tight spots in front of the store but they have additional free parking around back. It wasn't too busy (maybe 3 or 4 other duos dinning in). The place was very clean and the waitstaff was very attentive. It was weirdly quiet though and I felt like everyone could hear our conversation even when we talked quietly. Right away they brought out some crisps with four different kinds of dips which were all good! My favorites were the mini sliced red peppers and the green one. For my meal, I ordered the cashmere chicken with mild spice because I'm a wimp when it comes to spicy foods. We also got some garlic naan which was $4 extra. The meal came with a large serving of the cashmere chicken and some white rice which was split between me and my friend. I feel like they should have given us each a plate of rice because when we brought home the leftovers it was only enough for one of us. The food was very good but not sure if it was worth the high price tag.
google avatar

Joseph L.

Yelp
I came here in search of authentic Indian food, and I was pleased to find it is! My friend and I ordered a combination special for two, and it turned out to be more than enough! It came with a variety of meats and sides, I have to say it was worth the $45 price tag. We had left overs for each of us to have another meal as well. Although it's a hole in the wall looking place from the outside, don't judge a book by its cover, the kitchen knows what they're doing.
google avatar

Eric H.

Yelp
Wow. Wow. Wow. Very nice and efficient service. Clean environment. Broad menu for all diets and limitations. The food was sooooo good. I love Indian food in general but this topped them all. The crispy, chip-like wafer and the 4 sauces were a nice start, and all were tasty. We ordered Goat Curry, Boti Kabab Masala (Marinated tender cubes of lamb broiled in the tandoor, then cooked in a rich tomato, onion and creamy cashew sauce), and some spicy garlic naan. We topped it with Mango Lassi's which hit the spot. Both entrees we had them make it spicier and it came out just right. I eat Indian food every chance I get, anywhere I am, and this is my official Indian restaurant for as long as I'm in driving distance of Nashville! What an excellent way to end a week and start a weekend!
google avatar

Coddy A.

Yelp
We found it! Great northern Indian food. Greeted by a warm and friendly host (the owner's nephew) Lunch buffet had a wide variety of items from the standards of Chicken Tikka Masala, Tandoori chicken and Saag Paneer to many unique vegetarian choices. Attentive service and clean. This is the best place in Nashville HHS's down so happy new founded
google avatar

Grant E.

Yelp
Awesome takeout Indian spot. Extremely fast service, accompanied by rich and delicious food. The portions here are absolutely massive, at least 2-3 servings per serving. The chicken tikka and Chicken madras were both very flavorful and served with a huge dish of fluffy rice. Don't forget to order the naan to bring the whole dish together.
google avatar

Jimmy Z.

Yelp
Very basic and bland. I ordered Chicken Makhani, Naan and Samosa. Everything sucked greatly! How can you mess up a Naan? Doughy, gross and undercooked. I get nightmares if I think about it. Chicken Makhani is simply boiled thin chicken strips in a shitty tomato sauce finished with stinky cream. No seasoning whatsoever! Samosa were bad too - it's supposed to be crispy outside with delicious seasoned mashed potatoes inside. Here It was thick undercooked dough outside with bland messed up potatoes inside. Overall, a horrible experience. I could have cooked better food in a microwave or stayed hungry. Both were better choices. If you are looking for decent Indian food, look elsewhere.
google avatar

Camilla J.

Yelp
This is maybe not the fanciest place but the food was really great and the service was fast and good. In short if you are looking for a genuine American/Indian restaurant this is it. Only been here once so far but the entire family agreed this is going to be our go-to place for Indian food in Midtown. Oh, also, prices where really good and portions generous!
google avatar

Horton L.

Yelp
Bombay is the BOMB! Came here with friends for a going away party pre COVID and we had such a great time. Our large party was sat quickly. The food was hot and fresh. I would recommend the classics here: garlic nann, chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, chicken sagg, and finally curry goat. Servers were extremely friendly and fast. I also love that they have a nice list of wine and beers to choose from. I would recommend coming here for a cozy night out.
google avatar

Macy S.

Yelp
Highly recommend this spot for takeout & delivery! And judging by the other reviews it sounds like they have excellent in-house service as well. So, you really cannot go wrong by choosing this place! Outstanding flavor & spice for all of the dishes I tried! Standout Items: Meat Samosa Fish Pakora Tandoori Assortment (Shrimp/ Chicken/ Sausage) Paneer Tikka - my personal fav! Raita- Great consistency! Didn't get a chance to capture any photos because I couldn't wait to dig in. I'll definitely be ordering again soon!
google avatar

Kenzie G.

Yelp
Ordered Uber eats from this restaurant and ordered the chicken tikka masala and it was not very good. The restaurant doesn't give you the option to make food spicy on the notes, so the chicken tikka masala was very bland and the rice was mushy

Kevin B.

Yelp
My wife and I had a wonderful meal here. We've not had the opportunity to have Indian food very often, so this was a treat for both of us. The food and service were excellent!

Sarika S.

Yelp
We came in pretty close to closing time & the service was still very quick! The food was delicious and the portion sizes were great. For vegetarians I definitely reccomend the aloo tiki chaat or samosa chaat. The paneer tikka was also delicious.

Liat Z.

Yelp
This was our 3rd time here and it has been consistently great: the food was tasty, nice variety of meat and vegetarian dishes. The place is clean (the bathrooms too). There is ample parking. Service is very prompt, kind and professional. I like the Indian music in the background. Would have loved to have gulab jamoon for dessert too.
google avatar

Carly L.

Yelp
This is our favorite restaurant in Nashville! This was the only place that came to mind when my dad came to visit and I wanted to take him out. My husband and I love the tandoori chicken, tandoori mixed grill, saag paneer, naan, papadam and lamb samosa. The rice is delicious and has what tastes like caraway seed inside. It also comes with a yummy lentil dish and chutneys. It's in a very walkable area. If you live in West End/Centennial Park/Vanderbilt it's walking distance. Close to a bus stop for the 3 & 5 buses. I'll admit we end up ordering take out often, but it's even lovelier when you eat there in person. Thank you, Bombay Palace!

Yelp
I can get on board with this place. I really enjoyed their food and found the service to be spot. Service makes this place honestly because they're attentive and aware when to check-in. Nothing overbearing about them which was refreshing. The servers stay busy between handling tables and to-go orders. I feel like a good bulk of their business is from takeout. As far as food, this place does great when it comes to different sauces. OH MY GOD, SAUCE! I have truly enjoyed all the varying offerings I have had thus far that typically is a mix of a lamb dish and a vegetarian dish. They taste great as leftovers too. I am one who can not eat spicy food. So, for me to say that I enjoyed this with zero heat says a lot. My stomach doesn't regret it the next day either. Based on what I know, I would say they offer more Northern Indian type cuisine than Southern Indian. They have dishes from both regions, but there is definitely a notice of a northern regional touch than southern. Southern Indian spices would put me in a bad place stomach-wise if I tried going there. I would recommend this place for a great date spot. I think you will find that it offers that level of intimacy, but also you can dress up or dress down for the occasion. Pricing levels at about $14+ for entrees and that gets you a healthy portion of rice and dishes themselves are very shareable.

Yelp
DON'T VISIT!!!! Cause I hate waiting in line for a table. Easily my favorite Indian restaurant and one of my top handful of restaurants period. I really miss the Buffet since Covid hit us because I like trying all the different dishes instead of just trying to pick one. The black dal is awesome. Just the right amount of spic but if you want it spicier they have fresh green hot chili peppers for the asking. Give them a try you won't be disappointed. Great staff, good service and awesome food. Plenty of parking in the back. When you come in the ear entrance, be sure to smile and wave at the kitchen staff working hard for you. Tell him (Rio) sent you!
google avatar

Mike Z.

Yelp
They were friendly hosts and plenty of attentiveness if you are going to dine in. But the quality of their food is great. A lot of typical northern style Indian dishes that hold up and I can't wait to have my next dose of their dishes. If you're on the fence of what to order and want to try a few things, they have combinations that work for a party of two or even a whole family. Their lamb rogan josh was amazingly tender and didn't have a gamey taste that it can sometimes. Also their tandoori chicken was a pleasure as well. The servings are ample and you don't leave hungry. We'll be back for more goodness and we'll be venturing back to try more.

Yelp
Service was excellent and the food was exceptional. I mistakenly deleted my pics out of my phone but I definitely remember the flavor. We had this amazing naan that went so well with our food. I had a very mild chicken curry. They give you a ton of food and I had an entire meal for later at home. My friend had the lamb and she loved hers. We loved the atmosphere. It was very authentic Indian. I will definitely be returning to this place soon!!!
