17 Must-Try Indian Restaurants Around D.C.

"Mumbai was still known as Bombay when restaurateur Asad Sheikh was growing up in India. At the Columbia Heights original, along with locations on Capitol Hill and National Harbor, he shares the thriving street food vendor scene from his childhood through favorites like Bombay palak chaat (a mixture of crispy fried spinach with spiced yogurt and chutney), bhel puri (puffed rice mixed with a medley of raw onion, tomato, and chutney), and vada pao (spiced potatoes with ginger, garlic, and cilantro chutney served with a roll). Follow up these snacks with the Bombay thali for two: an assorted platter that includes curries, vegetables, bread, and rice. Sheikh also runs fast-casual chain Butter Chicken Company, which has locations downtown and on Capitol Hill." - Tierney Plumb

Bombay Street Food Opens a Third D.C. Location With a Lower-Priced Menu | Eater DC

"At its third D.C. outpost near Adams Morgan (1915 18th Street NW), I found Bombay Street Food continuing the Columbia Heights tradition of chaat, Indo-Chinese dishes, and vada pav while adding new items like aloo tiki (potato, chickpeas, and chutney) and a chicken 65 in a spicy red sauce with curry leaves. The 45-seat restaurant, which includes a small six-seat patio, offers a smaller, cheaper menu than the original and the Barracks Row location—think an $18 thali platter for one. It's run by restaurateur Asad Sheikh, who has also quickly grown Butter Chicken Co. into a fast-casual counterpart; the new spot opens for lunch from noon to 3 p.m. and dinner from 5 to 10:30 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, with delivery available through third-party apps." - Tierney Plumb

Good service. A large menu and lots of variety. Reasonable prices considering their location. Dishes were also good. We tried their Palak chat which was quite tasty

We were extremely disappointed to find a piece of meat in the fried rice we ordered, as we are strict vegetarians. When we raised the concern, the manager attributed the issue to Uber Eats, even though the piece of meat was clearly present in the dish itself. This response reflects very poor management and customer service.

Bombay Street Food 3 is truly one of the best Indian restaurants in the area! From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with warm hospitality and the aroma of freshly prepared Indian spices. The staff are friendly, polite, and always ready to help with great menu recommendations. Every dish I’ve tried has been bursting with authentic flavors — especially the butter chicken, biryani, and garlic naan. The food is always fresh, well-seasoned, and served hot. The portion sizes are generous, and everything tastes homemade with real attention to detail. The restaurant is clean, nicely decorated, and has a comfortable, welcoming atmosphere — perfect for both casual dining and special occasions. I highly recommend Bombay Street Food 3 to anyone looking for genuine Indian food and excellent service. I’ll definitely be coming back again soon!

I recently visited Bombay Street Food Express 3 and it truly exceeded my expectations. The ambiance was warm and welcoming, with a clean and cozy interior. The staff was incredibly attentive and friendly — from the moment we walked in until we left, we felt well taken care of. The food was absolutely delicious. We ordered the Butter chicken, chicken Tikka masallah, Bombay palak chat, madrasfish curry, lam Rogan Josh, sag paneer, Dall Makhani, Butter Naan, Garlic Naan and Mango lassi and it was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. The presentation was beautiful, staff is very friendly and every bite tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The portion sizes were generous, and the prices were fair for the quality. Whether you’re looking for a place to enjoy a quiet dinner or celebrate a special occasion, Bombay Street Food Express 3 is an excellent choice. Highly recommended — I’ll definitely be coming back!

I ordered Vada pav and pav bhaji from this place. I was very disappointed with the Vada pavs.. vadas were not soft- very very hard to chew( as you see I’ve attached a picture ) not fresh at all.. the pavs were very thick and didn’t taste fresh either. Pav bhaji came without onions, the taste was okaish. Very oily again the pavs were so thick.. I’d not recommend this place.

The food is amazing we love the Mango Lassi drink and Kadhi Chicken, Indian curry. I highly recommend this place we arrived at 2:00 it was empty but there take out food kept them extremely busy, it’s clean and the chef come out to bring our food very nice gentleman, it make my visit more special because I always appreciate to see the chef and the wonderful hands that prepared our meal, the kitchen also looks clean. We will definitely come back again and again. ❤️(note: they closed at 3:00 pm and reopen at 5:00).

$25 and change for curry goat and 1 piece of naan bread. Bread was cold. Goat had more bones than meat. Meat was overpowered with curry. On the good side, this place allegedly stays open until 3:00AM during the week. Ot is very rare that an Indian restaurant stays open past 10:00 PM.

My cousin and I love Indian food and have tried several places in our home town and when traveling. I can’t speak for the rest of their food but we ordered delivery for their butter chicken and it was amazing. Literally craving it now 2 months later!
