An amazing lunch meal at Bombay Velvet! The kitchen was extremely easy to work with and made a lamb kadai for my husband, even though it wasn’t on the menu. The lamb was very tender and the kadai was amazing. My fish curry was fantastic, as well! A beautiful blend of fresh flavors delivered a new tasting experience. We finished with a small dessert that was simple and delicious. Thanks to RJ for the impeccable service - you’re absolutely great!

Bombay Velvet is a lovely restaurant nestled between a Mexican and an American restaurant in Reston. Parking is very convenient — free street parking upto 3 hours is available right in front of the restaurant, and there’s also a nearby garage with free parking. The interior of the restaurant is calm and beautiful, with the ambience and mood set just right, making it perfect for a relaxed dinner or a special occasion. We had a reservation for 7:00 PM and were seated immediately upon arrival by our server/manager, Tapi. The restaurant was pleasantly calm for a Saturday night, which made the experience even more enjoyable. We asked for non-alcoholic drink recommendations, and Tapi’s suggestions were spot on. We ordered: Mango Lassi – classic and perfectly balanced Lychee Tini – excellent, with a true lychee flavor Cucumber Basil Gimlet – refreshing and light, almost felt like a healthy drink For starters, we tried: Avocado Corn Bhel – a delicious twist on traditional bhel, juicy and full of flavor Achari Soya Chaap – Lotus Root grilled to perfection with a wonderful smoky aroma For the main course: Kubani ka Kofta – a unique and delicious dish made with apricots and paneer; it was our first time trying it and we loved it Paneer Kadai – very flavorful and well-prepared We paired the curries with: Lal Mirch Ajwaini Paratha and Garlic Naan with Black Garlic Dust- Both were soft, fresh, and complemented the food very well. For dessert, we ordered Malpua Gajar Halwa, which unfortunately was not up to the mark as it felt a bit slimy and was hard to cut with a spoon. When we mentioned that it was our anniversary, Tapi surprised us with a complimentary ice cream topped with a candle, which truly made us feel special and well taken care of. Overall, excellent food, thoughtful service, and a warm dining experience. Bombay Velvet is highly recommended, and we look forward to visiting again.

I was taken here for my birthday and everything was perfect. It was our first time and all the drinks and we food we chose tasted amazing. My favorite was the chicken biryani. RJ’s Service was top notch! The chef personally came out to ask about how we enjoyed his food. We felt very well fed and well taken care of when we left. Thank you!

Such a great experience at Bombay Velvet. RJ was amazing—so welcoming, thoughtful, and genuinely helpful. His recommendations were spot-on, and everything I ordered was delicious. I especially loved the palak chaat and the garlic naan—both were standout dishes—but honestly, everything was really good. And hands down, they have the best mango lassi in town. From the food to the service, the whole experience was top tier. I left happy, satisfied and with leftovers and already planning my next visit. Definitely ask for RJ!

My family and I were here to celebrate my father's milestone birthday, and the experience was outstanding. The food and ambiance were excellent, but what truly set the evening apart was Amrit’s exceptional service—he went above and beyond to make it a memorable night for our entire family. From the creative cocktail menu - cue drama- to the delicious appetizers and mains, and not to forget the desserts - everything was perfect. He even brought out a special dessert for my dad. Highly recommended!

My wife and I went here for a date night, and it was a great choice. They serve slightly modern takes on Indian classics in a hip, upscale atmosphere. The staff were very friendly, and we relied on the waiter to give us recommendations for appetizers and entrees. The food was delicious! We had crispy fried mushrooms for the appetizer, and a fish and a chicken dish for the entree. The chicken was super tender and the sauce was amazing. The fish was served with a coconut sauce that really blew us away. We had an equally excellent dessert made with condensed milk foam, which was unique and delicious. This restaurant is an excellent experience, and I highly recommend it. Enjoy!

We had a wonderful dining experience, made even better by the exceptional service from RJ, who was attentive and welcoming throughout our visit. We started with the paneer papad tempura and the achari soya chaap—both excellent appetizers. The paneer papad tempura was crisp and flavorful, while the achari soya chaap had just the right amount of spice and tang. For the mains, we ordered the jackfruit curry and methi malai paneer, and both dishes truly stood out. The flavors were rich, well-balanced, and comforting without being heavy or overdone. For breads, we tried the ajwain lal mirch paratha, laccha paratha, and naan. Each one was perfectly cooked and paired beautifully with the mains. The food was exceptional—very good, honest cooking with no unnecessary pretension, unlike many other restaurants. Just straightforward, flavorful Indian food done right. Easily the best Indian restaurant in Virginia. We ordered vegetarian dishes this time, but we’ll definitely be regulars and look forward to exploring the entire menu. Highly recommended.

If you’re looking for a nice dinner or great lunch, this is it! Tapi made my fiancé’s birthday dinner more than just another outing. This was our first time here and it definitely wasn’t our last. From his friendly and professional demeanor, to his knowledge to be able to recommend foods we wouldn’t have tried otherwise, he definitely made this restaurant a top option next time I’m thinking of where to go

Intro: So its been almost a year since I been to Bombay Velvet and it was to try there normal menu instead of there Valentine Special Menu Decor: Even through the place is small I really love the vibes from table set-up to how it is design as it is very classy. This is how fine dinning should be Food Highlights: My wife and I tried Chicken Lahori Karahi, Chicken Kulcha, Palak Saag and Bhel. Happy to say everything came out pretty well and it was a pleasure to finish espically since he portion size was great for the amount we paid Drink Highlights: A shocking surprise was the Mausam and Bagicha cocktails as they tasted sooooooo good and highly recommend. We did get a third drink in which I forgot the same but it was a yellow drink but it did not taste great haha Service: We had amazing service Gilbert by our waiter. He was always check-in on us to ensure our night went smoothly. Would I go Back: As I said in my original review "I would for sure go back but it would have to be on a special occasion:)" And it does stand as the prices are just to expensive to come unless its once a year. But I highly recommend you check this place out at least once!

Bombay Velvet has a very spacious and pretty dining room.  Initially, the staff was very helpful but then they disappeared a bit when we were trying to find out what happened to the naan we ordered that never came even after all our other dishes were finished.  Our greeting was really cordial and complete with probably much more of an explanation of the cuisine than we needed.  We have eaten Indian food for decades and traveled to India so we really didn't need a description of what a somosa is.  My fear, when something like that happens, is that the flavors are going to be dumbed down for a perceived overly sensitive western palate and I am afraid to say that the plates we chose were definitely blander than we expected.  This doesn't mean some of them weren't good, but, we have enjoyed stronger and richer flavors at other Indian restaurants in the area.  I think the biggest disappointments were the kabobs which came as patties rather than kabobs.  Some of the texture was very soft.  The palak chaat and avocado chaat were good as was the khakhra platter which was very dramatic in its presentation.  Parking is a little confusing since there is a gate out front.  You are allowed to park there for a limited time.  There is also a parking garage very close by.

Had high hopes for this place, but left pretty disappointed. The ambiance and decor is beautiful. Gives off a fancy dining vibe from the lighting to the table place settings. Server was friendly and helpful. The appetizer we ordered was delicious. Unfortunately, it was probably the best testing thing we had there. The dishes were small in portion and were underwhelming. You'd expect more for the price that you are paying. I would not recommend this restaurant. You can definitely find better tasting Indian food for less.

I had never experienced this type of food, so I really wanted to try it in a dine-in setting. Additionally, I wanted to try it because I have heard such good things about the flavors. My daughter was actually the one who found it, so she thought it would be a good opportunity for food, ambiance and photos. She had already experienced the food at restaurants in DC and MD, so she was looking forward to this meal in a different setting as well. The reservations were set for early evening to allow time for pictures before any crowds might arrive. We arrived on time and was greeted by the host, who asked if we wanted a table or booth seating. We opted for booth seating and we were quite pleased with the location because it allowed for pictures without imposing on the one group of four that was already having dinner at a nearby table. The ambiance was nice. The decor was befitting the setting, the lighting was good and the music was at a moderate level, which was conducive to conversation. The table settings were attractive. Unlike many restaurants, the utensils were gold, which added an elegant touch. Everything flowed nicely in terms of ambiance. Shortly after being seated, the host or the waiter brought some bottled water to the table. He took our order, which began with two orders of garlic naan because one order consisted of two pieces. We wanted to ensure that we had enough for the starter, as well as some to enjoy with our meal. We also ordered the Honey Crispy Mushrooms. The garlic naan arrived smelling like freshly prepared brick oven pizza. The smell was amazing. The taste of the naan was on par with others that I have had from the grocery store, yet much fresher. The Honey Crispy Mushrooms, though small in portion were very good flavorwise, as well as presentation. The flavors were outstanding. The mushrooms had a flavorful sauce that included chili peppers. Initially, I began coughing from the extreme spiciness of the peppers. The mushrooms were a little overcooked; however, the overall flavor made up for it. We also ordered two Lychee and Rose Petal Martinis sans alcohol. The drink made for a nice picture, which was the objective. It was not much on flavor, but the presentation was impeccable and was definitely giving craft cocktail vibes. I did, however, enjoy the rose petals that incorporated into every sip. Again, because this was my first Indian food experience, I had to thoroughly peruse the menu for some vegetarian options. They did not have many dishes with fish or shrimp, so I went with a complete vegetarian selection. I ordered the Khubani Ku Kofta, which consisted of apricot and cottage cheese croquettes in a saffron gravy. There was one other option that I considered, but narrowed it down to the selected option after speaking with the host, who provided greater detail about the two dishes. I have to admit that on paper, the ingredients did not wow me, but I was willing to try it. However, when the entree arrived, I was pleasantly surprised. The presentation and aroma of the dish immediately captivated my senses. The dish was served with a side of Basmati rice. My daughter had the Alleppey Fish Curry, which was seared sea bass in a raw mango and coconut curry sauce. Both dishes had a beautiful presentation and were so aromatic. Presentation and fragrance aside, the taste was amazing. The croquettes exceeded my expectations because they tasted nothing like what I imagined, which was cottage cheese mixed with apricot. The closest thing that I could compare the croquette flavor to would be herb stuffing and the croquettes with the gravy was just WOW. The rice was perfectly cooked with the right texture and no grains of undercooked or overcooked rice. I sampled a little of the Alleppey Fish Curry and that was delicious as well. This is where the experience changes a little, so I saved it for last. Leading up to and throughout most of the meal, there were no complaints about the service. The service was never over-the-top, but we had everything that we needed, when needed. The male staff members were relatively cordial, but the female was glaringly rude. She never said anything and, she never made eye contact. When she came to our table twice maybe three times, she had a rudeness about her that was heavy. Through observation, she was very interactive with other patrons that she encountered, but her energy with us was very unfriendly and unwelcoming. It took a few days of internal deliberation to best approach this portion of the review to determine if and how it should be presented. This is the most benign way to address the inconsistent service that lacked hospitality for all patrons. This is my dining experience, so it needed to be said. Though the dining experience was enjoyable, I am not interested in visitng this restaurant again.

Bombay velvet is beautifully decorated with moody lights and custom furniture and napkins. The dinnerware is very handsome as well. Service was attentive and the server gave us some helpful suggestions. We ordered the Palak paneer, butter chicken, garlic naan and a potato fritter appetizer. The meal started off great as the potato fritter was DELICIOUS nestled in a dollop of tangy, light yogurt, drizzled with a green chutney and jeweled with thinly sliced apricots. Unfortunately, everything went downhill after this. The butter chicken was bland with just a few pieces of under-flavored chicken, the palak paneer consisted of more cream than spinach. They provided a paltry bowl of rice and a single, chewy garlic naan was $6. The meal could have been simply ho-hum but the exorbitant price point brings the experience down further. I appreciate what the restaurant is trying to achieve but as the food preparation and price stands currently, I do not recommend.

This was a fabulous experience led by a great staff!!! First and foremost thank you to the staff for taking the time to work with my group as we asked so many questions and ordered so many dishes . Every single dish was delicious and full of flavor. There were only empty dishes remaining when we were done. Some of us even order food to go home and eat later. My favorite were.... Everything!!!!! The Chicken Briyani, Palak, Chaat, Lamb Seekh Kabob, Butter Chicken, Butter and Garlic Naan, Dal Tadka. We order a little of everything. Bombay Velvet should be pinned as a must visit if you are in the area. Great for a family meal or a romantic night out... we did a work happy hour turned full out dinne

We came for lunch around 12:30 in the afternoon and were surprised to find the place completely to ourselves, guess not too many people eat expensive Indian food as lunch on a Monday. Regardless, we had a good time - for starter we got the grilled tandoori chicken and it was very good although more spicy than most people can handle, for the main entrées we got the saag which was delicious, and the butter chicken, which was phenomenal as well. We also got one thing of the plain roti, one thing of the garlic naan and a side of rice. Final comments - The quantity is way less for the price paid, the service is decent, but ambience is great.

I didn't know what to expect when walking through the doors and I was blown away but the ambiance and decor of the restaurant. It was absolutely stunning. The drink menu covered everything from mocktails to hand crafted cocktails. I thoroughly enjoyed the Hibiscus Hi Tea which was made with Kettel One Vodka, Hibiscus Tea and Cinnamon Cordial. It definitely was a thirst quencher. Highlights of the meal for me were the: Avocado Corn Bhel - the crunchy texture paired with the creamy avocado made my tastebuds sing. Alleppey Fish Curry - was cooked perfectly and the spices from the curry were on the medium level. Which I appreciated immensely. Nimish - this dessert made me feel like I arrived. The foam chaat which tasted like eating a cloud was accented with gold leaf sprinkles. The only thing that I did not get to try was the lamb and I'll definitely be back to try that.

Rude. Poor value. No substance mostly bad style. If I am expected to PAY FULL 20% SURCHARGE / AUTO TIP and full menu price. WHY THE F Do you rudely give me paper napkins for lunch service. While you are setting tables for dinner with linen. Same lunch and dinner menu. In an empty restaurant for lunch you sit our group next to a noise rude and socially inept group? Is this a high end restaurant or a poser restaurant gouging you with high price and low quality shopping mall Indian food?? Waiters rushing you while you are still eating to clear your plate which still has food on it. In your face fumbling to fill your water. Portions are small and they could be ok IF the Quality of the meats were there. Butter chicken overcooked chicken breast. The pieces of meat curled up from being overcooked. Tandoori chicken literally two pieces. And hahaha $38 for a 8" dish portion of cauliflower and broccoli. I am the sucker for buying it. Definitely FNL. If I asked to see the dessert menu. Don't gibber jabber. Go get me the menu.i did say please.

Traveling from the West Coast, it was suggested to me to try East Coast Indian cuisine. Being conveniently located near my hotel, I stumbled upon Bombay Velvet. The aesthetics I saw online were irresistible, and miraculously, it looks exactly like the photos in person. The service was top-notch. I felt the high-class vibe, and the presentation of the food matched. Without a doubt, one of the best Indian meals I've ever had.

Ambiance: One of the few Indian restaurants in Nova, where the ambiance reminds you of fine dining restaurants in India. Perfect candle lit dinner decorated with a beautiful chandelier in the center. We went there for our anniversary. Service was impressive. Food: I started of with Virgin aamsutra, loved the drink. From the small plates, we got palak chaat and bhatti ka tandoori chicken. Palak chaat here is the best palak chaat I ever had.It so light and yummy. Bhatti ka tandoori chicken is our favorite too, the flavors are very unique and delicious. For the main course, we got garlic naan, butter chicken and chicken biryani. During our first visit we loved the garlic naan , the second time though, it was thick and not cooked all the way through. Butter chicken was on the sweeter side, which our waiter told us when ordering, so no complaints there, flavors were really good. Chicken biryani tasted okay, but one-two chicken pieces felt like stale chicken and we couldn't eat the rest of it. Sadly we had to end our dinner with bad taste in our mouth. But except for biryani, everything else was made to perfection. Special mention for aamsutra and palak chaat. Parking: there is ample common parking in the plaza.

10/10 experience ! Everything we tried was a flavor burst! I love Indian food and this place is a bit further from me but so worth the drive! We tried some apps, and main dishes. Also I got a lychee martini and it was perfect! Their non- alcoholic beverages are SO delicious! My favorite bites were the Khobia Ka Kofte (apricot and cottage cheese croquettes), butter chicken and Lal Mirch Chicken Tikka! Definitely get the garlic naan with black garlic dust AND goat cheese kulcha ! OH so delicious!! There is free and convenient parking . This place is definitely elevated Indian experience so yes the prices reflect that but I think the flavor is worth it!! Also the ambiance is so chic with date night vibes!!

Highly don't recommend at all. Don't go there if you have any food allergies.i informed the waiter of my son's food allergies, and he brushed them off. My son ENDED UP IN THE ER for hours due to a ANAPHYLACTIC reaction to the chicken tikka appetizer!! I specifically asked about allergens and was told not to worry. I tried calling the business manager/owner and have yet to receive a call back. This happened Saturday 5/11/24.please please be aware- this shouldn't happen to anyone!!

Beautiful and intimate space to have a delicious Indian meal. The wait staff was super attentive and great at giving descriptions of the dishes and providing recommendations. Will definitely return.

Food taste good and ambience is good as well. We get a lot of home delivered as well.

I'm so sad it took me this long to try Bombay Velvet because it is now one of my favorite restaurants. From the romantic ambiance to the spectacular service, this is the perfect date night or celebration restaurant. I really enjoyed their mocktail selection and appetizers. We tried the Haji Fried Chicken, Bhatti Tandoori Chicken, Stuffed Chicken Naan & Aloo Paneer Tikki for apps and it's hard to pick a favorite. Each dish had a unique flavor and a different sauce that complimented it to so well. We also got the chicken biryani & lamb chops and those were also delicious. I would highly recommend visiting and treating yourself to a delicious meal.

Bombay Velvet was really good. Atmosphere was nice and fancy. The servers were friendly. Food was great and fresh. Samosas were a bit more spicy than I expected but everything was good

The food here was really good and the service was excellent as well. I do think the desserts are lacking in quality and flavor so would definitely skip those. They have a good variety of apps and entrees however they are all very overpriced. Luckily I wasn't paying for the this meal, however it was ~500 for 4 of us which does feel very high.

It's over priced for what it is. The service wasn't great and they automatically add 20% gratuity to your bill. I can understand if we were a party of 6, but it was just the two of us. Probably will not return.

Visited this place last weekend and was very disappointed with the taste of food. Ambience and the servers were very nice. It was party of six so we ordered 10 different items total. Two appetizers, dessert and rest were supposedly large entrees. None of the entrees were anything to write about other than average taste. In addition, size of the dishes are very small. (e.g.= butter chicken had four chicken nugget size pieces per order for $28.00 each. Had to order a second one just to make sure we all tried this dish, presentation was very nice) However, food is of sub par quality. Basically, over priced dishes for sub par quality food. I guess one is paying for the presentation not the quality of the food at this place.

Over priced for above average foods. The space is nice but it's not enough to come back. I ordered take out via toast tab. Got there and the one staff looked at me with unwelcoming glare as if "what was this person doing in his empty restaurant " The other staff that handed my order to me wasn't any better. She was just as rude. So DO NOT come to this overpriced place. I ordered 2 Dal Tadka, each was $17.95 and saffrons rice was $9.75. One flimsy garlic nann was $4.95. Not sure how they justified these outrageous pricing. Are they the Rasika in dc wannabe?

Had to wait one hour even though I had a reservation. The food was overpriced and lacked much flavor. There is sofa seating for some tables, I'm not sure who thought that was a good idea. Terrible idea. The couches were so low I had to stretch up to the table to eat my food. Service was overall slow and I hated the seating leaving me with a bad overall experience. Will not be going here again.

Decided to come here for lunch based on instagram and reading reviews and it was a major let down. It was 4 of us for lunch and we came at around 1 pm and the restaurant was pretty empty, thinking nothing of it we decided to eat there. Without going into too much details we ordered 4 meals and our total came to $130, they also added gratuity 20% automatically. Everything was average, including service, food and ambiance but the portion size felt like a joke. I am not a big eater and felt the portion size of what we ordered was not enough for a 5 year old. I even spoke to the waiter about it and he said the portion size is determined by corporate and they could not do anything about it. It is very rear for me to complain about a business but this restaurant is not worth our hard earned money to be given and in return to get baby portions...never again here.

We had an amazing experience at Bombay! Had the pleasure of being the first person to try the new happy hour menu! We sat through a tapas style session and cocktails to add! The mocktail s we're absolutely refreshing! I can't wait to go back for brunch

Really loved the food and was a different experience. the menu was super creative and not something youll see anywhere else. Staff was really nice and helpful. the setting makes you feel super fancy. The only thing i would love to see is bugger portions. the food was amazing and for the price, woukd just like to see a bit bigger portions

I rarely write reviews but our experience at Bombay Velvet was so dreadful that I feel compelled to share it. Despite being the only diners at the restaurant, our service was, to put it mildly, very subpar. The prices were astronomically high, which we could have accepted if the food was of a corresponding quality. Sadly, this was not the case - the shrimp curry we ordered was so undercooked that we ended up leaving half of it uneaten. This not only raised our concerns about the quality of the ingredients they used, but also the potential health risk that left us questioning the overall hygiene of the kitchen. The experience was further marred by the addition of a 20% service charge, which, in our opinion, was entirely unearned. This service charge was on top of tipping, which felt rather audacious considering the poor service we received. In sum, our dining experience at Bombay Velvet was a complete letdown. For the high prices charged, one would expect exceptional food and service. Regrettably, we received neither. Given the myriad of dining options available, I simply cannot in good conscience recommend Bombay Velvet. One star.

The ambience, food, and servers were all delightful. We have been back several times and had a great experience each time. The price reflects the quality of service, the attention to detail and decoration, and the taste of the food... which are all superb.

This was a hard rating... some things a 1... others a 5... I settled on a 3 but it's barely that... which is sad as there is potential! What did I like? Adored the server who took the time to level the table since it was wobbly. Initially loved how the server took our ordered... recited it back as ordered (see next section). The baingan bharta was amazing, truly 5 stars in taste. Also loved that after commenting hubby hates truffles and to ensure that bread separate from other nan it was! They listed as a allergy issue on the check and I'm always appreciative when kitchens take these notes seriously What fell short? After reciting back what we ordered the onion salad never showed up. We decided to ignore as a ohhhh well. That said it would have probably been a nice counterpart to the eggplant. A tiny bowl of rice was served... while just enough for us it was just barely. The big fails were the lamb chops! Listed as flaming and the menu even shows a pic of the dish front flambéd it wasn't. Plus while I liked the spicing my husband found the chop he had as dry plus they were hard to cut... partially a lab issue more likely knives not sharp enough. My biggest issue which I didn't know till in the car is that they charge 20% service charge with a line for "additional tips". I get automatic gratuity gif large parties but not for two. I did go back and it is listed at the bottom for all fine in ordered... but as one us reading the menu from their cell phone it's easy to miss... I do prefer printed menus as cell phones hard to read... our waitress did bring my husband a tablet to use but the table next to us wasn't given that option which was surprising as the father kept complaining of trying to read on his small cell. They had a different server. That waiter also commented that the menus were changing in a couple of weeks... so heads up on that. There are some 5 star taste and potential service... unfortunately overshadowed by everything else.

I saw a video of this place on Instagram and decided to check it out. Five stars solely based on the authenticity of the smells, decor, staff, and service provided! It's so beautiful on the inside!! As a person that always ordered an alcoholic beverage, the tulsi & orange peel lemonade was non-alcoholic and SO GOOD! I'm someone that despises sparkling water (one of the ingredients in the drink) but it worked! I wish this restaurant would put it in a bottle and sell it. The cauliflower appetizer was just okay. We felt it could've been saucier. Maybe it had been sitting under the heat lamp too long. And we did get a few fried crumbles of nothing. Also, we felt it should come with some type of dipping sauce. Garlic naan however, was on point. My friend ordered the lamb chops and enjoyed them. I shared some of a sauce I ordered on the side, korma, which we both enjoyed. Originally, I wanted to try the lamb korma but the waiter suggested the lamb shank. It was cooked perfectly and had a nice spicy sauce that mixed well with the korma sauce and rice. I also got the butter chicken to go. It had really nice texture in the sauce and the chicken itself was tender and juicy. Our server Bhakti was a pleasure to dine with! This place is absolutely gorgeous! Perfect for a date night for singles or couples. I wish I could've gotten pictures of the decor but the place was pretty much packed. I think that speaks to its essence. It's a little far from where I live but I definitely would like to go back.

One word: OVERPRICED! If the portion was decent, I wouldn't have minded paying the price I paid but the fact that the portions were so small, the restaurant can't possibly justify the menu prices. They should really rework the menu. It's all over the place. It would have been easier to make selection if the food items were in sections by type rather than size. Service was great! I have to give them credit on that.

Beautiful restaurant. The decor is really unique, gorgeous and romantic. A nice spot for date night or to go out with friends. The butter chicken has a delicious sauce but I noticed the chicken had skewer holes so I'm assuming it is tikka chicken thrown in to the sauce rather than cooked in it. Palak chaat was okay but wouldn't get it again. Cheese naan wasn't stuffed with cheese but cheese sprinkled on top. Truffle naan had weird taste and I wouldn't get that again. Samosas had potato filling and were good. Lamb biryani was excellent but not enough lamb and a lot of spice chunks and extra items we had to spit out because they weren't meant to be eaten.

Tough goat! I was out with some friends, and together we decided to try a variety of appetizers and main dishes for dinner. The overall dining experience was good, with the exception of one dish - the goat korma/curry. Unfortunately, this particular dish turned out to be quite challenging to enjoy, as the meat was incredibly tough, comparable to a truck tire. Despite our best efforts to wrestle with it ( by using knives, teeth, and jaw muscles) to slice it and get it down, we couldn't manage to chew or swallow it comfortably. It truly was one tough piece of goat meat. Nonetheless, we didn't let this dampen our spirits, and we contented ourselves by dipping our bread in the flavorful gravy surrounding the meat. Everything else on the menu was very tasty and we enjoyed eating it. I would think that someone in the kitchen taste the food before they dish it out. The service and the ambiance was good.

The food was so good! The restaurant was also beautiful. They have cute comfortable high chairs too! It was roomy and velvety! My toddler asked if we can have one at home lol. It is more expensive than your typical Indian restaurant but was worth it!

We had a great date night at Bombay Velvet! Everything we tried was delicious! The ambiance is great with dim lighting, beautiful light fixtures, and velvet furniture. The service was also perfect for us. Waiters came back just often enough to make sure we didn't need anything else, but not so often to interrupt the experience. We had the Apricot Paneer Ki Tikki Chaat (such an awesome balance of flavors), 2 orders of chicken kulcha and butter chicken. The Bagicha to drink was also very good. I am not an expert in Indian food, so I cannot speak to the authenticity, but we really enjoyed the food. It is on the higher price point and they do add a 20% service charge automatically, but I feel like if you know this going in, you can make the most of your experience.

From the exquisite outside and intriguing inside, Bombay Velvet has a great assortment of appetizers and main course dinner dishes to choose from. Though the track inside loops over the same 5 songs it's still an enjoyable vibe to chat with the people around you. The taste of the food was also amazing compared to other Indian restaurants I have dine in. I will be stopping by here again for sure.

In my quest for the genuine 'Ghar ka taste' after relocating from India, Bombay Velvet emerges as a noteworthy contender. While my expectations regarding hospitality and service are typically undemanding, this establishment manages to exceed them. Satyam and Bhakti, the adept managers, skillfully attend to patrons and non-patrons alike, offering impeccable recommendations. The servers contribute to an experience steeped in politeness. The culinary delights, particularly the Sarson ka saag, Lahori Chicken, and Tandoori chaap, evoke a profound sense of satisfaction. A return visit is undoubtedly on the horizon, driven not only by the delectable food but also the pleasant ambiance cultivated by the staff.

Okay, something has changed here. I haven't been in a long time, but I went the other day and I was so disappointed. I love the ambiance. It's so nice inside. The prices have gone bat sh!t crazy! And the prices don't match what you get in terms of food. Who is paying $16 for 2 samosa?!?!? Not me. Our server was nice but pushy. We wanted one app, one entree and one naan. He was pushing us to get two of everything which was a huge turn off. They were good and had a nice presentation but a bit pricey. We ordered butter chicken. The recipe has definitely changed and it wasn't as good as it was in the past and instead of smaller pieces of chicken, there were like 4 bigger pieces of chicken. The thing that really upset me is that they added a 20% gratuity. Now I understand if it's a group of 6 or more, but it was just two of us. I always give 20% anyway, but I don't like it when restaurants add it, don't tell you and then try to get an additional gratuity. And listen, 1 app, 1 entree, 1 cocktail, 1 non-alcoholic drink came to $117 for two people. Listen, that will not happen again.

Recommendation: Look elsewhere: With so many other dining options available, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant unless significant improvements are made.

The portion of food is super small for the price. i would not go or recommend anyone to this restaurant. Not great taste either.

Overpriced for an average food. Expensive little dinner dishes. Food was cold and let me mention again very small. Goat biryani came with a soup bowl. When we asked the check there was %20 service fee which our server did not say anything and we almost added another %20 tip (for a table for two). Don't recommend and won't be back again.

They have changed the menu and the interior recently and both changes were a mistake. They used to have good portions, a great menu with a mix or traditional and non-traditional offerings, and reasonable prices - all set within a typical Indian style restaurant. Now they've raised prices dramatically, reduced portions to insulting sizes and added a whole bunch of weird sofas. This used to be a regular venue for us, including the early COVID days when they had very few people coming in...but now what was once a favorite has been consigned to the trash heap of "good restaurants gone bad"...if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

It's now April 2023 and I left this place disappointed. Compared to the 1st visit, my Valentine's day experience was subpar. To start, the waiter and waitress seemed to know little about the special Valentine's menu. We had questions about one item on the pre-fixed menu and the answer was, "It is explained there." Then, when we thought all was ordered, there was the question, "What about the bread?" It wasn't clear to us it should be ordered as well and the waiter gave us that look of, "Oh, dumb people." And then there was the drink part that my boyfriend ordered and the waitress really struggled to understand. We had to ask for the menu again and show her. However, the biggest disappointment of that night was my main course dish. I ordered a banana leaves wrapped fish. After I opened it, there was less than 1oz of fish there. Plus, it tasted awful! I mean, really bad! Meanwhile, my boyfriend got a lamb leg. I felt cheated considering they were charging $89 a head for that special Valentine's menu. You may say I should have complained. Well, the maitre responsible for that had already asked the question. And busy as the restaurant was that night, we just left. Would I go back? Not on my first instinct. That bad experience certainly made a mark on a restaurant I loved. In the end, I left disappointed with the dining experience. Service went really down compared to my first time at Bombay Velvet. 2018 First, this is fine dining. Not your typical Indian place with more affordable prices. The restaurant decoration is just beautiful! You simply forget the outside. I'm glad my boyfriend brought me here to celebrate my birthday. It was 5 pm when we walked in and we had the place to ourselves. A very attentive waiter took care of us. He explained the concept in creating the restaurant as well as the chef's twist on the food. Chef had spent time 3 months in India doing research to develop a unique menu. For appetizer we had Paneer Kathi Roll. For main course, I ordered Chana Masala and my boyfriend had lamb curry. Add to that the garlic naan which is always a must for us. For desert, they brought me a slice of pudding (I wish I remember the name) with a candle on top and sang happy birthday. Meal was delicious. I'll definitely return as the food quality is above most Indian restaurants I've been.

The place is well set up for a date night out. The food portion were perfect not too much and not too less. I will definitely be coming back. They have a Thai restaurant next to that turns into a night club which worked out perfectly. Didn't have to go far at all.

Bombay Velvet is, by far, the best Indian cuisine in northern Virginia and DC. Everyone goes for the same dishes, such as butter chicken, garlic naan and lamb korma (our exact order, today!). But we've been here a dozen times now and have really explored the menu. Every dish is fantastic. This place can really throw it down. A true delicacy, in the category of Indian food. Will return regularly.

Amazing cocktails! Authentic food! Ordered the butter chicken and the chicken biryani! The butter chicken was the Best one i have tasted outside India! The starters we ordered were the Paneer tikka and the chicken tandoori. They were pretty good too! Nans were fluffy and buttery. I plan to go and try every single dish they have! amazing ambience! The experience was worth the extra 25% premium price you pay for the food! I think Rasika has some serious competition in the DMV area!
