Took the train from Porto to Pinhão the other day with zero plans, just a mission to eat, drink, and have a good time. We rolled into town and lucked out, finding Quinta do Bomfim, part of the Symington Family Estates, right by the river at the east end of town. Their restaurant, Bomfim 1896, opened at 12:30, and somehow we scored a table with no reservation (we miss you, Tony).
We let the staff steer the ship and went with all their recommendations. Kicked things off with a gin cocktail spiked with sparkling Port and grapefruit (was perfectly refreshing), followed by the chef’s signature creamy blue lobster rice. Washed it down with a bottle of 2021 Parcela Única white wine and finished with a millefeuille layered with smoked cream and salted caramel. The kitchen and staff crushed it. It was an incredible meal.
