Bon Bon

"An elegant ambience, professionalism, good service and a true gastronomic experience at dinner are the hallmarks of this restaurant, which works with premium ingredients to create a delicious tasting menu (there’s also a vegetarian option). The lunchtime fare here is much simpler and more moderately priced.Chef José Lopes showcases modern cuisine with a reginal flavour that focuses heavily on recipes from the Algarve - all of which are prepared with a keen eye on presentation, textures and harmonious flavours. In the high-ceilinged classic-cum-contemporary dining room, fascinating details include the hexagonal layout, the wrought-iron fireplace in the centre of the dining room, and the large glass-fronted wine cellar. The pleasant outside terrace is an added bonus!" - Michelin Inspector

We visited Bon Bon with friends September 2024 and it was one of the best dining experiences of my life. We opted for the 9 course meal but probably got to sample 25 individual taste explosions. It is so very obvious that the chef loves creating. This can be tasted as well as seen in the presentation. The food and dessert is a beautiful fusion of land, sea, mountain, wild food and at times Indian, with the Chef paying homage to his Goan and Portuguese heritage. I don't want to give too much away as this is something you need to try for yourself. A great plus for our friends was the availability of wine pairing with a very knowledgeable Sommelier on site. She clearly knew her stuff about the many grape varieties that Portugal has to offer. Very important to me is food presentation and atmosphere. Bon Bon again ticked all the boxes. Although all the wait staff were excellent l wanted to give special mention to the Zimbabwean waiter who spoke about each dish with confidence, ready to answer any questions. If l could recommend one area for development is that my expectation for such a high end place would be to have a selection of craft alcohol free beers available instead of the same option everyone else has, plus a wider selection tasty and food pairing other alcohol free options to choose from. But no doubt we would all like to return to see what they have on their next menu that changes once a term. They absolutely deserve the 9 years in a row Michelin st

Really really disappointing. The evening started very well but was ruined by other patrons and an exceptionally slow service. We had the valentines menu which was still delicious albeit very seafood heavy. I felt as though we weren’t treated as equally as other diners in the restaurant. A couple sitting behind us who arrived after us were rude and tried to silence the conversation we were having on our table. Let me just say, it is a restaurant, there was a general chatter of voices as one would expect as every single table were having some sort of conversation. We were not louder nor quieter than anyone else but this couple seemed to have an issue with us specifically. My partner informed the waiter/host ( an older man in a black sweater) who was dismissive and obviously knew this couple as evidenced by the extensive greeting, cheek kisses and general talking between the couple and the host. Nothing was done about the matter and it soured the whole rest of the experience. I’m not sure if it is because we are an interracial couple or our age being significantly younger than most of the patrons but we received weird glances and smirks from other tables and it made us feel exceedingly uncomfortable. Additionally the whole dinner took 5 hours. We waited for 45 minutes between the fish and duck courses and 40 minutes between the dessert courses. The couple behind us who arrived after us received their duck course almost 15 minutes before us. A couple by the door arrived nearly 45 minutes after us and ended up on the same course as us - just an insight into the inconsistency in the service speed. I understand that a tasting menu is extensive and can take time but being a chef myself with michelin experience I did not understand how it took so long especially considering it was about a 20-25 cover restaurant. This was honestly a bit distressing as I didn’t expect to come to dinner for 7:30pm and leave after 12am. The waiters were brilliant and attentive however the host (guy in black sweater) was unhelpful when we expressed feeling uncomfortable and didn’t seem to care. For over 500 euros, I expected to have a more pleasant evening.

Very well deserving of its Michelin Star, this place is outstanding - even compared to other starred restaurants. There’s a lovely back story to the restaurant. We were lucky enough to have visited when owner Nuno was there. He chatted effortlessly to us and told us about his journey and his focus on achieving that coveted star. That said… he doesn’t swan around being the owner. He was pouring water and was introduced simply as Nuno. We only asked him because we happen to have read about the owner before going. We were looked after by Bret, who was absolutely perfect for the evening. He knew the menu really well. He was completely professional but also very friendly. So… what about the food? We had the 9 course option, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The menu has a very Portuguese theme of mountains, see and land, and every dish is beautifully cooked and presented. It was tough to select a favourite. There were probably 2 contenders being the Mackerel with Pine nuts and Lime or Grandmothers Heritage. The latter is a homage to the chef’s grandma who was Indian. The dish was more than a bit special. I opted for the wine pairing. It was a good selection of Portuguese wines perfectly suited to the dishes. I rarely go for the pairing because I am not usually adventurous enough to risk a fine I don’t like but I wasn’t disappointed at all and am pleased I did. The setting is nice. It’s in the middle of town but there’s a good view of the mountains when you’re sitting outside and the atmosphere is lovely. Overall - a lovely evening

An extraordinary experience from start to finish. Every detail, from the exceptional service to the decor, was amazing. We did the 9 course with matching wines. The food was phenomenal—highly recommended.

Fabulous is the best way to describe this experience. I booked it for lunch to celebrate our wedding anniversary and it was a taste sensation. It was quite simply one of the best meals I have ever eaten. I can highly recommend this restaurant. The menu changes seasonally. Our hake dish was sublime but it is hard to pick out any one single dish as they are all so good. A wonderful way to celebrate a big thank you to the staff and of course the chef.

Still going down in history as the best meal I’ve ever had. Best Michelin-starred experience to date. Attentive and elegant without being overly pompous. Food was expertly prepared with heart and soul, wine pairings were excellent too.

Excellent experience! The chef prepared so many surprises that we were so happy and also super full by the end. The carabineros shrimps dish was impeccable. The way everything was prepared. Majority of dishes we were very impressed at how the flavors meshed well together. The desserts were also top notch. Truly enjoyed this restaurant!

This restaurant is fantastic! I booked here for my girlfriend’s birthday whilst on holiday. On arrival we were greeted by the staff. Then seated at a lovely table. The atmosphere was fantastic. The whole story behind the menu and provenance of the food was explained and from here started the “journey” with the menu. The flavour of each dish and the presentation was out of this world. The friendliness of the staff was outrageous. But the absolute icing on the cake was the small attention to details. The team created a beautifully small and perfect birthday cake that went with the menu. I have never experienced a meal / environment like this before. If you’re debating booking here, then YES! Book here and enjoy it. The whole experience was unreal and something I will definitely come back for again! The photos I’ve attached don’t even do it justice! The staff member who looked after us was Brett, he was absolutely fantastic and such an amazing member of staff!
