I visited Bon Bon recently after a friend had talked it up quite a bit as a really cool place to go for a great cocktail. He decided to take me out for a congratulatory drink (I just finished my Master's degree).
The place was empty when we came in, save for a few people. The bartender was friendly and had great suggestions for cocktails. Our first round was pretty good.
However, this was not the case for the second round. I ordered a simple drink that I order everywhere, and have never had a problem with the recipe. When I received the drink at Bon Bon, it tasted overly sweet and had a strange color to it. I tried to sip it for a bit, but couldn't stomach it and told the bartender that I really disliked the drink. She responded that this was the house recipe and she made it exactly right, so I would have to pay for it anyway, and if I wanted another drink I could order one, but I would pay for both. The interaction was strange, and rather rude. I turned and went back to my table with the drink in hand.
When my friend returned from the bathroom, I told him what was said and he was rather irritated, but we all continued talking and joking around while I drank water. Then the bartender came over to our table (where all of my friends were seated), and proceeded to tell the entire table how my drink was prepared correctly, that she couldn't just make a new one, and we'd have to pay for that drink and any new drinks. My friends just sat there in disbelief. Why would she feel the need to repeat herself, this time in front of my friends? To embarrass me? To prove she was right and I was wrong? I have no idea. In any case, it was rude and uncalled for.
I won't be returning to Bon Bon any time soon, and I hope, for any of your sake, this policy will be changed.
