Showed up at 7pm for our 7pm reservation, and the restaurant is open but empty. After a few "sumimasen" calls go unanswered, we call the restaurant's land line and someone on the kitchen staff picks up. "Sorry to trouble you, but we are here for our reservation... and standing inside the front door!" After making some scuffling and scrambling sounds in the back, our waiter comes to greet us and apologize. They were short staffed because of a train delay affecting their lead waitress. Not a big deal in the end!
After this humorous entrance, we were seated and handed menus. The entire meal experience was well orchestrated, and the presentation, quality, and taste of the dishes were quite memorable. I can see how this quiet neighborhood French spot earned a Michelin Star.
If you're interested in experiencing an off-the-beaten-track French restaurant in suburban Tokyo, I would definitely recommend venturing to Bon Chemin.
