This past Sunday, November 9th at 6 PM, my family met at this location for a very casual birthday dinner, as requested by my boyfriend’s daughter. It was our first time visiting this particular location of Bonchon. We were a party of ten, and each family placed our orders individually before sitting together to chat while waiting for our food.
When the food began to arrive, the young man delivering it brought each dish out one at a time, placing them randomly in the center of our tables (we had pushed three tables together to accommodate our group). This led to some confusion about which dishes belonged to whom, but we eventually sorted it out. It was mildly frustrating, but we understood—it seemed like he might have been new or inexperienced, and we gave him grace.
Once everyone had their food, we realized several items were missing. We had to ask multiple times for the missing dishes and sides. Again, we remained patient. However, after still not receiving everything, we followed up once more. That’s when the tone changed—the employee became defensive, insisting he had brought everything we ordered and even demanded to see our receipts to prove it.
At that point, we were missing a side of ranch and a chicken fried rice. Then something truly unbelievable happened: the employee reached into my boyfriend’s dish with his bare hand, pulled out a piece of chicken, and said, “This is the chicken fried rice,” before placing it back in the bowl. My boyfriend had ordered the Seoul Sampler, which includes multiple small dishes that hadn’t all been brought out together, and—since everything had been placed in the center of the table—there was already confusion about which item was which.
We calmly asked that a new chicken fried rice be prepared since the dish had been touched with bare hands. The employee refused and said he could just “scoop out the area” he had touched. We then asked for a refund, which he also refused, and he retreated to the kitchen.
Meanwhile, another member of our group was still waiting on her side of ranch. When she went to the counter and rang the service bell, the same employee came out, picked up the bell, and threw it on the floor.
By this point, everyone was extremely uncomfortable, and my boyfriend’s daughter was in tears—feeling awful that her birthday dinner had turned into such a stressful experience. My boyfriend’s mother asked how she could contact the manager and was told he would be in the next morning. She has called several times since, but the manager has yet to return her call.
Needless to say, I would not recommend this location. The food itself was good, but the service was by far the worst I have ever experienced. What happened was not only unprofessional, but also unsanitary and unacceptable.
