The Best Restaurants for Fried Chicken in San Diego - Eater San Diego

"South Korea-based Bonchon came to San Diego in 2018, bringing Korean-style fried chicken to Convoy Street. With more than 200 stores in nine countries, the restaurant’s twice-fried-to-order chicken comes with either a soy garlic or spicy glaze, or a mix of the two with its half-and-half. Order the best-selling chicken wings, or try chicken strips, drumsticks and boneless wings." - Darlene Horn, Candice Woo

Korean Fried Chicken-Themed Shoes Go On Sale for Charity | Eater San Diego

"I saw that the chain launched a campaign to raise funds for the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation’s Restaurant Employee Relief Fund (RERF), which provides grants to restaurant industry workers impacted by COVID-19. I also note it has an outpost on Convoy Street that’s still operating for takeout and delivery, and the chain told Eater it’s planning to open another location in National City by late May/early June with more locations promised for San Diego." - Candice Woo

Famous Korean Fried Chicken Arrives in Kearny Mesa | Eater San Diego

"Bringing Korean-style fried chicken to Convoy Street, the international chain opened its first San Diego outpost, Bonchon, which was founded in South Korea and now counts over 200 stores in nine countries. For the next two weeks the eatery is running abbreviated hours (11:30 a.m.–3 p.m. and 5–10 p.m. Sunday–Thursday; 11:30 a.m.–3 p.m. and 5 p.m.–midnight Friday–Saturday) and is dine-in only for now, though other locations do brisk takeout business. The chicken is twice-fried to order and comes glazed with soy garlic, spicy, or a half-and-half; chicken wings are the best-seller, with strips, drumsticks, and boneless wings also available. The menu extends beyond chicken to Korean classics like bibimbap, japchae, and bulgogi, plus fusion and other Asian dishes such as bull dak (a stir fry of chicken and rice cakes in hot sauce with mozzarella), udon noodle soup, potstickers, and takoyaki. There’s craft beer and wine, with lower prices during a weekday 3–6 p.m. happy hour. The company says at least two more San Diego-area locations are planned, in Chula Vista and San Marcos." - Candice Woo

Korean Fried Chicken Empire Expanding to Convoy | Eater San Diego

"I’m excited that the Korean-style fried chicken chain Bonchon is finally coming to San Diego this fall in Kearny Mesa; founded in South Korea in 2002 and opening its first U.S. store in New Jersey in 2006, the New York City–based company now has more than 200 corporate and franchise locations across nine countries. The new Bonchon will be a tenant in Convoy Street’s Plaza Del Sol complex, occupying a 3,120-square-foot space tucked into the back of the strip mall that replaces R&B Crawfish Lounge. Known for Korean fried chicken—typically well-seasoned and fried twice for a thin, crackly crust and usually glazed with sauce after frying—Bonchon offers soy garlic and spicy sauces or a mix of both, and serves chicken with a side of pickled radish; wings are the bestselling item, though drumsticks and chicken strips are also available. Beyond the fried chicken, the menu is a hodgepodge of Asian cuisines, featuring traditional Korean dishes such as bibimbap, japchae, and bulgogi as well as Japanese takoyaki and udon and Chinese fried and steamed dumplings." - Candice Woo

This place has more than enough space for everyone who comes in to eat. It’s a cute relaxing atmosphere with tvs all around, and delicious food options. I love the happy hour prices for beers! The food was super yummy too! Would definitely come here again.

Google
It’s been a while since last time I dined in. We usually order them for take-out. It’s our favorite place to get Korean chicken wings. I heard that they have $1 wing on Mondays and Tuesdays so i had to take advantage of it. It’s up to 15 wings per person. We ordered 30 wings, half spicy and half soy garlic. They were crunchy and flavorful. The spicy ones were a bit too spicy for my taste. I also really liked their pickled radish, a very refreshing side dish that compliments wings well. I’m sure I’ll come back soon.

Google
First time trying this Asian Fusion Chicken place. I got Bibimbap~ rice with scrambled eggs , lettuce, carrots and sautéed onions, mushrooms and spinach, contains sesame seeds or sesame seed oil. You can choose one protein bulgogi, soy garlic chicken or spicy chicken or you can get additional protein for extra charge. I also got side of Kimchi, National Korean dish consisting of fermented chilli peppers mixed with cabbage. I usually like kimchi but this particular one was a bit too saucy to my taste. Other than that food was pretty good hit the spot for spicy craving. Thanks. Will try their wings. Everybody is talking about Happy Hour $1 wings I think it’s on Mondays. 🍱🍗🍗🍖🍱🥘🥘

Google
Excellent chicken wings and drumsticks. We got the small mixed wings and drumsticks with the new yangnyeom sauce. They were excellent, very juicy and crispy. Update: Got pork potstickers, pork belly kimchi bowl, and small mixed wings and drumsticks with the new yangnyeom sauce. Everything was very good.

Google
The food was really good, they had a good promo for dine in and the food was served quickly. The chairs and seats were not the most comfortable. The staff were friendly.

Delicious late food!! Cold draft beer! Cold sparkling water! Spacious and low-key atmosphere, great servers. So far my favorite is the pork bun, but the gyoza and crispy juicy strips were fantastic too. Very good sauce flavors.

Google
Bonchon on Convoy Street is a local favorite for Korean fried chicken. They also serve other Korean comfort food. It is located in a busy strip mall and finding parking requires patience and luck. Best time to find parking is 3:30-4:30pm. Inside the restaurant is kind of dark and has many TV screens for people to watch sports/games. On the day of our visit (New Year’s Eve), there were streams of customers picking up their takeout orders but one poor waitstaff/hostess working there. She was calm, efficient and polite so we hope the owner pays her well. We picked up our Korean fried chicken (wings and drumsticks), half spicy and half mild. We enjoyed eating the hand battered and double fried Korean chicken. Definitely a crowd pleaser. We will go back to try other dishes in the future.

Google
First time here and super stoked! Long story short, I had a special request that they don’t really offer and the server Jeffrey and the manager made it happen. Very grateful for that. We had the fries for appetizers and really really enjoyed em. Came with my family- twin brother is a chef and mentioned how well the fries were cooked. All in all, very pleased and will absolutely come back with my wife!

Yelp
Hands down the best Korean chicken spot in San Diego: especially for their happy hour wing nights on Monday and Tuesday (dine-in)! The wings are perfectly crunchy, double-fried to golden perfection, and bursting with flavor. The soy garlic easily my favorite: savory, slightly sweet, and absolutely addictive. The ambience was just right: music at a comfortable level, lighting that gives a nice night-time vibe, and plenty of TVs showing different things. My husband and I didn't pay much attention to the screens though: we were too busy enjoying good conversation and amazing food. Our server, Michaela, made the experience even better. She took the time to ask our names, gave us rubber bands when our to-go container broke, and overall made us feel genuinely welcome: it felt like home. If you're looking for a go-to spot for Korean wings, this is it. Great food, great service, and a chill atmosphere that makes you want to come back every week (which we have apparently!)

Yelp
Come here on Mondays or Tuesdays for $1 wings! It's a super good deal and the wings are Korean style deliciousness. They also have $5 draft Sapporo beers after 9pm. I think this special is everyday. The service is fast but they're super busy on wing special days. However they are bussin their butts to make sure you get your wings! There are TVs so you can enjoy your favorite sports while having wings. I recommend soy garlic for savory or Yangnyeom if you like some spice. Their other items are good, but just stay with the wings and you won't go wrong.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped by for the $1 wings deal, which was the main draw. We tried both the yangnyeom and soy garlic wings. The yangnyeom was the better option with a solid sweet-spicy flavor, while the soy garlic was fine but pretty forgettable. Overall, the food was just alright--crispy enough, but nothing that really stood out. The visit felt very straightforward and no-frills. It was busy, orders were handled efficiently, and the space had that typical chain restaurant feel--clean and functional, but not particularly inviting. Worth it if you're there for the deal, but outside of that, the experience felt pretty average.

Yelp
This is Bonchon's OG location in the SD area as it opened in the Convoy Pointe Plaza Shopping Center several years ago. The internal corner suite they occupy is not the most optimal spot especially with the notoriously jammed parking lot. They used to have long lines for dining in, but now the tables were well spaced apart with less seating capacity. I think it's because most of their revenue was coming from takeout and third-party delivery orders. During my recent visit, just three other parties were seated. A special menu card listed a Bacon x Kimchi collaboration with three items. The regular menu featured Korean fried chicken in the form of wings, drumsticks, strips, and boneless with small, medium, and large quantities available. You choose a type, quantity, sauce, and small side for an order. A variety of Bonchon bites (appetizers) appeared on the other side of the menu. I selected the Bacon Kimchi Stir-Fry Udon from the special collab menu and a small (10 pc) order of soy garlic wings with pickled radishes. Both items arrived simultaneously after about a 15-minute preparation time. The first was made up of wheat noodles stir-fried with bacon, pork belly, kimchi, and onions. A soy garlic and spicy sauce was used to flavor the mix which had a mild heat level. The wings were hand battered, double fried, and hand brushed with the soy garlic sauce I picked. I recall that the wings were light and crunchy when I first tried them years ago. This time the batter seemed heavier and overcooked. I am uncertain if they changed their formula, but I wasn't as impressed as before. The fact that they charged less than two dollars per wing was positive and why I rounded my rating up to a four star level.

Yelp
Horrible, rude service. They ignored you and then snapped at you and then ignored you again.

Yelp
If you're looking for quality Korean chicken wings and have a budget this your place! Bonchon has $1 wings on Monday and Tuesday allowing each person to get up to 15 wings. I enjoyed the classic and soy garlic wings which were very tasty. The waiter and waitress were super friendly and this restaurant had TV's allowing me to watch the Monday night football game. Only con for this place is parking, but it's on Convoy so expect parking to be difficult.

Yelp
My kids loved the bulgogi fries here! We intentionally came on a Monday so that it's cheaper. Mon and tues is 1$ wings. Otherwise korean chicken wings are just too expensive! We got the Korean, soy, fire, and the new flavor yangyeom. I think my favorite is fire but its not spicy at all. My kids opted for the korean feast. You get to choose 1 from each category. They chose 6 wings with 3 drum sticks, bulgogi fries, and the tteokbokki. They enjoyed all of it and its 40$ i think its a good deal. The inside is nice and big but their beer on tap tastes weird. The service was so great bc my server forgot my beer. I had to ask for it a second time. All in all, we will definitely come again!

Yelp
Came here for the $1 wings that they do on Mondays and Tuesdays. Came the past two Tuesdays and both times have been amazing. Sat down right away but I noticed after some time of me being there that it would fill up and some people would have to wait. Got 30 wings for the both of us as it is 15 max per person. And two sides of rice. Soy garlic is our go to and honestly the best flavor. Spicy is good but can be a little too spicy to enjoy sometimes. Their other two flavors are good as well, a little kick but not our favorites. Food is always served hot and quick. Service is great as well. Bathrooms are nice to wash hands after you're done eating as well.

Yelp
If you are looking for really great wings this is a great place. My wife and I were in the neighborhood looking to pick up some food to take to karaoke and decided to Try this spot. The wings were perfectly cooked , nice crispy crunch and the sweet/ spicy sauce was totally addictive! I certainly recommend picking some up.

Yelp
Servers are always nice and accommodating. Wings are delicious, crispy and consistent. Ambiance is chill, they play really good hip hop/rnb music. We frequent on Mondays and Tuesdays for the wing deals!

Shay D.

Yelp
The best korean fried chicken I have tried! Me and my partner enjoyed 20 of their $1 wings, part of a deal they have on Mondays and Tuesdays. We got three flavors: Soy garlic, Korean bbq, and Yangnyeom. All three of the flavors were fantastic, but the soy garlic was beyond words! At the time we arrived, around 3pm, the restaurant was quiet and relaxed. Our server, while I don't recall her name, was extremely kind and helpful! We will definitely be back soon!

Yelp
Bonchon offers up flavorful tests like their spicy chicken dumplings. they're very high heat so be ready with a milky drink to wash it down! great tasting eats.

Yelp
Food: We went for the $1 wings and it was so good and worth it. Even on a weekday, there was a wait, which shows how popular it is. The wings were good and had great flavor from the sauce. I've had slightly crispier wings elsewhere, but these were still solid and satisfying. Service: The service was decent and helpful. Ambiance: Lively and packed. It's a fun spot to hang out and chill with friends. Definitely gives off a casual and social vibe.
google avatar

Kelly W.

Yelp
Came for the dollar wings, 15 max per person. We split the flavors evenly but if I could do it over again I'd rank the flavors accordingly: Yangnyeom, spicy, BBQ, soy garlic $5 draft beers and I think they're $2 after 9p Not too bad for a Monday/Tuesday night!
google avatar

Mirei K.

Yelp
Went in for their $1 wing special and it was so worth it! I love their spicy flavor although it's not really thag spicy, it has a kick to it that's addicting! I also really like their pickled radish since it gives a nice pallet cleanser. The servers are pretty attentive and I always have a fun time when I come here!
google avatar

Yelp
I keep forgetting to write a review for Bonchon. I've always been a fan of their crispy chicken. I tried bonchon over 20 years ago in the east coast and the flavor is always consistent. They have soy garlic and spicy flavor. I always opt for soy garljc since my body cant handle anything spicy. The chicken is always crisp and the soy garlic adds the right amount of tang. Over the years they added more menu options like rice bowls, rice cakes and other korean snackies. I like this location because it can accommodate large groups. The staff is always nice here whenever we go. The only issue would be parking, especially if you're visiting during the weekend or dinner rush. Im always open to trying other KFC places but bonchon is still my favorite

Yelp
My husband and I came here a couple weeks ago for lunch and had a great time. The service was great and the food was even better. We walked in and were seated right away. They did start to get busier as happy hour started so we got there at the perfect time. Everything was clean and I liked the feel of the restaurant. The food was so good! We shared a few things which was the way to go. The Tteokbokki was chewy and slice but a little sweet. Perfect with the mozzarella cheese on the top. Definitely coming back for their fried chicken and chicken wings. They had a good selection of craft beers and it was perfectly chilled when served. Super appreciate that. We will be back for happy hour!

Yelp
We stayed at a hotel a full 8 miles away from this Bonchon, but lucky for us, we were somehow within its delivery radius. Even luckier, the chicken was still hot and crispy when it arrived, and we got to enjoy a Korean fried chicken dinner on the beach in La Jolla. I ordered a K-Meal To-Go for 4-6, which came with 12 wings, six drumsticks, and two sides I supplemented this with an extra order of drums and a few more sides, as well as Korean donuts for dessert. This was just enough food for four adults and a few kids who were also eating some Easy Mac. Bonchon has been around for ages, long enough that locations have opened, thrived, and then closed in New York and Los Angeles. It's one of the original Korean fried chicken chains, and I was pleased to see that the food was still delicious. Both wings and drumsticks were tender and juicy, and I enjoyed all three flavors we ordered--the classic crunch, the soy garlic, and the Korean BBQ. The classic crunch was basically Southern style, with a nice shatter of batter. A couple of dipping sauces--ranch and spicy mayo--went well with the sauce-free chicken. The soy garlic was great, the OG sweet and salty KFC flavor, while the KBBQ was pleasantly sticky and spicy. Both the K-meal and the drums came with sides, so we got a spread of fries, coleslaw, and pickled radish. All solid, but the pickled radish was the most essential. We also added some addictive Korean street corn with Kewpie mayo, mozzarella, Korean red chili flakes, and scallions, plus an order of mediocre steamed edamame. The Korean donuts were an impulse purchase, and I was honestly surprised by how good they were--fresh, light, chewy twists of fried dough, fragrant with cinnamon and sugar. They came with a sweet cream dipping sauce that looked unappetizing but tasted fantastic. The kids went crazy for these donuts, and I was glad I had the foresight to get two orders. This was an easy, tasty way to feed a large party and satisfy both adults and children. It's too bad that Bonchon left Los Angeles. I'd totally order again if I had the opportunity.
google avatar

Jiaxin G.

Yelp
Chicken is as crunchy as they claim. We got the 20 pieces. We asked if we can choose three flavors but apparently you can only split that into two flavors (10 pieces for each flavor). We got the spicy and plain. The spicy one is to the point that would give you runny nose. The plain one is good for kids. Server was nice.

Yelp
They have $1 wings on Mondays and Tuesdays for dine in. My favorite is the soy garlic wings! Thank you Bonchon Convoy for the fast service and delicious food!

Yelp
One of the best places for Korean fried chicken, I've been coming for years! I love their soy garlic chicken, such great flavor and crispiness. This time I shared the mixed lunch combo and an order of fries with my sister and we were both stuffed! It is spacious and clean inside with lots of tables. Definitely will keep coming back!
google avatar

Allison L.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years and their soy garlic chicken is one of my all time faves! My sister and I split the mixed lunch combo (came with radish) and ordered a side of fries and we were both stuffed! I will definitely keep coming back

Yelp
Came in for their $1 wing monday tuesday special. Such a good price, i mean look at that mountain of wings. chicken was very tender, but it was a bit salty flavor. Next time get multiple flavors because it gets tiring eating 15 of the same wings.

Yelp
We got the bull dak which was so cheesy and spicy, really good. We also go the fries and it was so crispy. The service was really fast and our waiter was really nice.

Yelp
This is the best Korean Fried Chicken in San Diego. I have tried other KFC places but they don't seem to compare to Bonchon.i love the soy garlic flavor the best. The wings are always so crispy and juicy. On Mondays and Tuesdays they have $1 wings (up to 15 wings per person.) also they have a 3 combo meal for $40. We ordered 10 wings +bulgogi fries and tteckbokki with a side of pickled radish. And added 15 wings to our order. Everything was delicious . The fries in the bulgogi fries were thick and crispy . Flavorful with the sauces and pieces of bulgogi. Treckbokki came with 2 pieces of veggie pot stickers. The rice cakes were chewy and the sauce was cheesy and a bit spicy. Only thing lacking was the service this time as they were a bit slow to take our order and we had to ask for more water. The food, however, came on a timely manner. Definitely come on a Monday or Tuesday for these deals.fParking can be difficult to find in the lot so sometimes we park on the street.

Yelp
Came here after badminton practice with some friends. The food is tasty, and the chicken is crispy and well-seasoned. The lighting of the establishment is a bit dark, but that provides its own nighttime ambiance.

Kevin J.

Yelp
The food is excellent, but the service is problematic. Last week, I ordered online through the Bonchon website (not Doordash or any other 3rd party service). I picked up my own food and when I returned home, I discovered that my order of bulgogi fried rice was missing. Disappointing, but I understand that mistakes happen. I called to let them know and request a refund for the missing item. The employee that answered told me they could not give me a refund. My options were to drive back to get the food (not an option with small children) or get store credit (I don't eat here often enough for this to be a reasonable solution). The employee stated that she would have the manager call me, but of course they never called. I paid for food that I did not receive and could not get my money back.
google avatar

Joyce I.

Yelp
I came for the $1 wings, which is such a great deal. We got the soy garlic, original, Korean bbq, and spicy. The soy garlic was really salty that day which according to the people I was with, is not typical. The chicken itself was pretty good and well made. Service was pretty quick, but I was there on a Monday at lunchtime. I would definitely come back if craving Korean fried chicken!
google avatar

Mehs P.

Yelp
Went on a monday night, $1 wings and $4 beers. Good deal, and the wings were tasty and cooked well. Parking a little tight, but it's a big lot and there's street parking on a side street that's a bit more of a walk. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
Da BOMB. I don't love how crazy the area can get, but this location is consistently good and worth it! They have a wide selection of items on the menu, but the chicken & sauces are where it's at!! Ambiance is chill, it's good for families or friends. If you're looking for a date spot, this isn't it but come for the food and you won't be disappointed. They have plenty of seating inside and have a clean restroom available to customers. Service was fine, nothing stand-out but we came for the food!! They're in a shopping center with parking, although sometimes it can be super hard to park. Will for sure be back and certainly recommend.
google avatar

Madalina A.

Yelp
I came here for the $1 wing deal on a Monday. Everything was absolutely delicious! The wings were so crispy and tasty. My favorite flavor was the soy garlic. The bao buns were yummy but I don't think I would order again. I can't wait to come back here for the deal!
google avatar

Michael H.

Yelp
Went for their Monday special, around lunch time pretty packed house with a couple of servers bless their hearts. But wait times and service vary so just be flexible and you're gonna get some quality food. Expect a crowd and if you got a party expect a wait. The wings were very delicious I got the spicy flavor heat was like 4/10 for me but overall the wings were a solid 9/10. And they were a dollar each. Cant complain too much about dollar wings these days. Overall, the food is great, the service is good, and based on lunch rushes in the convoy area waiting can be a thing.

Yelp
Celebrated my sons birthday here, party of 14. Thank you Bonchon for making today special. Delicious food and outstanding service. Especially for a busy day like today, Super Bowl. Ordered multiple orders of spicy, garlic and Korean bone in fried chicken, Korean boneless chicken, bulgogi fried rice, bulgogi fries, bulgogi tacos, tteokbokki, steamed rice, kimchi and Korean donuts. Everything was delicious. Thank you again Bonchon!

Yelp
This review is for the Japchae only, I haven't had the pleasure to eat their chicken yet! Hubby brought home some Japchae when I was under the weather and it hit the spot. Each bite was lite, yet filling, and full of flavor. The chopped veggies were fresh and plentiful. The bulgogi was tender and well marinated. When I go to KBQ I always love the side plates of Japchae, but this was 10x better than any place I've had it. I was the perfect amount of full for the rest of the evening. Hubby said the chicken was really good, one of the best on Convoy and a good deal compared to some other places! Can't wait to try it myself.
google avatar

Billy P.

Yelp
Overall this place has a very chill vibe with good food. Went here with my family for breakfast(got there as soon as it opened) and to my surprise, it was packed! The wait was 40 minutes to even get a table and another 30 minutes for the food. The waiters seemed to be scrambling all over the place with only 2 of the 4 staff mainly doing everything. With this current review, this place would have no doubt been given a 2 star. But, hat really brought up this review are the chicken wings! The chicken wings come in 2 flavors, "spicy" and soy garlic with an option to "half and half" your order. They have a crispy exterior, are coated with sauce well and were very juicy! The bones practically could be pulled off with little force applied. The chicken wings also come with a side of either pickled radish or coleslaw(no substitutions) which tasted pretty much as expected. We also had the tofu bibimbap which was okay, nothing really made it stand out compared to other restaurants. And also the tteokbokki, which I didn't eat because I cannot eat fish but my family seemingly demolished! (Which they never do) All orders were very flavorful and although took a while to come out, were very worth it. This place would no doubt be rated 5 stars based on food alone, but taking service into account I would personally rate this place 4 stars until service is further improved on.

Yelp
My husband and I placed a $90 order on DoorDash that included a 12 piece boneless chicken, the bulgogi plate, 4 sides of two different sauces, the donuts, the mopo corndog, and 4 sides of rice. The chicken, that was nearly $22, was so small it could be considered popcorn chicken. We received absolutely no rice, not even on my bulgogi plate. Although the bulgogi and corndog are good, our entire meal was incredibly disappointing.

Yelp
Came in for the Monday, Tuesday $1 wings and had a feast. There is also a beer special, $3.99 for any draft beer and $2 Sapporo pints starting at 9 PM. I'll be rating the sauces separately, and we ordered the yangnyum, soy garlic, and Korean bbq. As an appetizer we had the bulgogi fries that weren't very plentiful but tasted really good, it arrived very quickly and the bulgogi was cut pretty thin. It was packed inside but the servers came around in a timely manner and our order of 40 wings took maybe 25 minutes. Social atmosphere with loud music so it makes more sense to come in a larger group in my opinion. Yangnyum: 9/10 Good amount of spice, really balances out the sweetness and savoriness. Personally would recommend this one to everyone. Soy Garlic: 8/10 Pretty standard, a savory and sweet blend. Korean BBQ: 5/10 On the saltier side, almost herby and not what I had in mind for KBBQ wings.

Yelp
Good stuff. The restaurant was completely empty when we got there but there were lots of to go orders being picked up. Not a great atmosphere for a date or whatnot. We got the half/half boneless wings and the pork buns. I enjoyed the pork buns. Although, they were a little saucy for my taste. The boneless wings were where it's at. Both the spicy and the normal sauce were good. Be causations though, my friend could not handle the spicy (they're normally able to eat fairly hot).

Yelp
Some of the best fried chicken I've ever eaten. Dining experience is lackluster, but the food is excellent.

Yelp
I ordered a small which comes with 10 wings... did a half and half of their Soy Garlic and Spicy. The Soy Garlic is sweet and full of flavor. The Spicy had a kick to it (I do like to eat spicy) but it was surprisingly less flavorful than the Soy Garlic. Both were delicious though and hit the spot! First time there- The girl who helped me at the register was very cute and sweet. She pointed me to the order menu. You pick the amount and sauce(s) you like and it does come with a small side. I had it with the pickled radish which I feel brings a refreshing addition to my wings but I could be bias because I like pickled veggies. The place itself was very large and not as busy on a Friday evening. Clean and spacious... very chill and quiet. Yummy place to get your chicken fix! I would come back! Value and taste of wings is worth it too!

Yelp
We stopped by at Bonchon , it was my husbands 1st time here and wanted him to try the wings! The shopping center has a lot of parking but it seems to fill up fast ! We were seated as soon as we got there it wasn't busy at all ! The server was really nice , efficient and fast! We tried the Parmesan Fries (10/10), they were sooooo good! I had been here before and thought I tried the spicy wings I ordered the 1/2 ( Soy & Spicy) and good thing I did the wings were too SPICY for me! My husband on the other hand loved them , they were the perfect spice for him . My favorite were the Soy Wings they are soooooo good(10/10)! We also tried the Korean Tacos with the beef but they were just okay not too flavorful . The service was great ! Overall highly recommend trying out Bonchon , we are definetly going back soon!

Yelp
5 Stars | A Taste of Hometown, Shared Across Cultures As an elite Yelp reviewer and a proud African American from St. Louis now living in San Diego, I've tasted a lot of fried chicken--but there's something special about BonChon that hits different. The flavor? Always fire. Crispy, seasoned just right, and that signature glaze that's both bold and balanced. I've ordered BonChon for delivery many times and it never missed. But today, I finally walked in--and the in-person experience matched the flavor: warm, welcoming, and consistent. It felt like home inside the restaurant. Very friendly and kind staff. . What made it even deeper for me, though, is the name itself--BonChon, meaning "my hometown." That phrase hit me hard, because even though I wasn't born in Korea, I felt a connection. There's a shared story here. Back during the Korean War, it was Black American GIs who introduced fried chicken to Korea--passing on a piece of soul food that Koreans embraced and elevated into their own crispy, double-fried art form. That's a powerful bridge across cultures, born out of hard times but now seasoned with love. So when I bite into BonChon's chicken, I don't just taste spice--I taste legacy. And that legacy feels a little like home. Respect to the chefs, the team, and the shared heritage that brought us this joy. Fried chicken is soul food--and at BonChon, it's international soul food.

Yelp
First time in Kearny Mesa grabbing dinner & I honestly was impressed dining at this location. Simple, open and clean. Definitely a place to watch sports games & have intimacy or group seating. The place was nice & the staff were friendly and very knowledgeable about the food, overall great service. Plenty of food options, we were not disappointed. I hope I can name everything on the menu, but I will definitely be going out the way to visit this place again. I rarely run into food this delicious & well cooked.

Yelp
The chicken at Bonchon is consistently good. Crunch and flavor is a must and they deliver. The spicy is spicy and I like to split between the soy and the spicy to slow down the devouring of the chicken. The radish also helps to cool your mouth. This time I ordered online for the Super Bowl and my order was ready at the time promised. Bonchon is located in the back corner of the shopping plaza. Parking is usually available. I've never eaten inside, but it is spacious in there.

Yelp
First time at this restaurant! The restaurant is self seated, has good music playing and is a vibe. Our food was served at a timely manner. Chicken wings and drumsticks were delicious! We also ordered the bao buns with chicken, omg sooo good! The only minor complaint is they didn't have lemon or lime for our water. Other than that 10/10 I recommend!

Yelp
Came with a girlfriend to take advantage of the weekday lunch specials! The spacious dining room remained nearly empty throughout our meal and table service was prompt. I got the Combo lunch - 4 wings and 2 drums - which was more than enough food for me. The exterior crunch on both was excellent, as expected of Korean fried chicken, and I particularly loved the meaty interior of the drumsticks. Pro tip: Signature Fried Chicken lunch specials come with a complimentary side of pickled radish, coleslaw, or steamed rice, but consider upgrading to fries (either plain or seasoned) instead - that batter is addictive... It's a bit of a bummer that Bonchon only offers two KFC flavors and you can't adjust spice levels, but thankfully what they do have is quite tasty. I went half & half on my order and enjoyed both the soy garlic and spicy (gochujang), with the latter being right on the edge of *too* spicy - and I say that as someone who likes heat! :P
