The Bondolio olive farm is open to the public just 3 times per year and offers in depth tastings of not only their small batch olive oils, but also eclectic imported products from Italy, Spain, and France.
For 2018 the holiday tastings are available December 2, 9, and 16 from 10:00 - 1:00pm. Wood fired brick oven pizzas, salads, and local wines were available in addition to the product tasting.
Today, chef/author Rolando Beramendi from Florence was onsite signing copies of his cookbook "Autentico".
The owners take great pride in the artisanal craft of making olive oil and have really done their homework on varietals and extraction methods. Unlike any other California olive oil I've tasted. They imported 3 types of trees from Italy to populate what was once and almond tree farm. The smartest decision was to include a Sicilian variety which is known for its peppery notes. What started as a hobby has flourished into a business that took 2 gold medals in New York and LA events over the last two years.
With less than 50K gallons of their signature oil produced annually, it can be hard to find. Mainly co-ops and fine food specialty shops and mail order direct.
The property is gorgeous and is available for special events like weddings etc. I'll be back next year, but wish the shop was open year round for purchases.
