I Thought Eating Food Was the Best Part of Traveling. I Was Wrong. | Eater

"A Toronto stall serving bún riêu cua that the author enjoyed as an outstanding example of the dish, its impact amplified by being guided there by a local who wanted to share the city’s culinary highlights." - Noah Galuten

Ordered take out for dinner tonight. I had pho, the Bon Bo Hue. It has hue style beef shank, Vietnamese sausage, pork, thick vermicelli noodles in a spicy lemongrass soup and the fresh grilled pork rolls. The food was fresh and very flavorful. The soup was spicy. This is a family run business and I love supporting these local small businesses. I highly recommend them.

The spring rolls are an absolute must at this joint. They're crispy, plump, and super tasty. The bun bo hue and banh cuon was decent, though I've had better elsewhere. Still good. I'd come back just for the spring rolls 100%!

If you’re craving an authentic, soul-warming Vietnamese dining experience, look no further than Bong Lua Vietnamese Restaurant. Tucked away as a true neighborhood treasure, this spot delivers everything you could want in a meal—comfort, flavor, and a welcoming vibe that feels like home. Let’s start with the star of the show: their pho. Oh. My. Goodness. This isn’t just soup—it’s a masterpiece. The broth alone is a revelation: rich, aromatic, and simmered to perfection with layers of spices that hug your taste buds with every sip. The noodles are tender yet springy, and the generous portions of melt-in-your-mouth beef (or your protein of choice) make each bowl a hearty, satisfying experience. This is the kind of pho that’s so good it’ll have you planning your next visit before you’ve even finished slurping the last noodle. And let’s talk value—the portions are generous, the prices are fair, and the quality is consistently top-notch. This is the kind of place that proves you don’t need fancy decor or a high price tag to deliver an unforgettable meal.

I come here to eat in the evenings every few weeks. Food/taste is consistent and the service is good. The menu has a large selection to choose from has seating for about 40 people. We ordered tonight Tomato Crab soup with vermicelli and Thai style rare beef brisket in Tom Yum soup with Pho. My wife loves the crab soup as it has a rich crab taste and tomato was not over powering. The t yum was not too spicy and the soup was sooo tasty I ate the whole bowl and drank all of the soup. I usually have the special beef pho (rare beef, beef balls, tendon, brisket, tripe) and it's always great eat and my goto bowl of pho when I come here and this time I wanted to try something different and I wasn't disappointed. I'll be back to eat here again in a few weeks.

Authentic Vietnamese cuisine in Scarborough. No fancy, but the food is very good. They have all the basic / famous dishes from Vietnam. I ordered Bún bò Huế, The broth is balanced by the fiery kick of chili paste and served with rice noodles, beef shank, pork hock, meatballs, Vietnamese greens. Too bad it doesn’t have blood pudding, otherwise is prefect.

The pho broth was flavorful and yummy, and their portion sizes are generous given the pricing, which is really reasonable (and less expensive compared to the newer Vietnamese restaurants that have more recently opened). Food came out relatively quickly. The restaurant itself is small, so I can see there being a wait during busy times, but it seems like tables turn over fairly quickly. Parking is ample but can get busy with various other eateries and businesses in the plaza.
