I was excited to try this place after reading about it on the Michelin Guide, where they have given it the « bib gourmand ». Normally, these restaurants are well worth a visit, but unfortunately, I think Michelin should reconsider their choice to include Bonhomme on their list.
The menu is small, rotating, and appealing. There were some highlights from our dinner, one being the tomato and cherry tartare starter, and the other being the chocolate mousse for dessert. Other than that, the dinner was quite disappointing.
The service was, while not exactly rude, certainly cold, short, and unenthusiastic. And the food fell far below expectations. The trout fillet was overcooked, and had multiple bones still in it. The whole trout dish was tragically under seasoned, especially the zucchini sauce it was served with, which had almost no taste at all. The veal tartar was cut into much too large pieces, resulting in an unpleasant chewing experience. The other elements on the plate, like the brocoli, apricot, and a sweet sauce, were interesting, but did not work with the tartare. There was no cohesion to the dish.
Overall, I would skip this restaurant. There were some things that it had going for it, and maybe we visited on a particularly off night, but it certainly was not at the standard of other Michelin bib gourmand restaurants I have been, and there are plenty of other much better options for the price point in the city.
