Lovely old bridge with magnificent views. Great place to take photos and to enjoy the charm of Bruges. It is though a very popular spot dor photographs, so you might have to wait in line to take your pictures - especially during the touristic high season. So if you do not want to queue, best advice is to come either early or late when the day trippers are not present.

If you go there early you can avoid the crowd. During the day time there usually is a line up for taking pictures.

It is a subtle but romantic gem of Bruges, built in the early 20th century. Although it is one of the newest bridges in the city, exudes an air of an older romance — brick and stone, historic architectural elements and scenes that look like they came out of a fairy tale. The surrounding area — with channels that reflect the beautiful old houses and the majestic Cathedral of our lady — gives a unique photographic moments. A special element is the local tradition: they say that whoever you see first passing the bridge, is the one with whom you marry — a charming element that intensifies the magic of the visit It is no coincidence that it is considered one of the most photographed bridges of Bruges, and is often referred to as 'the central romantic spot' of the city. A piece of advice; Visit it early in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the crowds and enjoy the magical light of the city. At the same time, the bridge though small and narrow, passes unnoticed for the age of the — the simplicity, however, makes it perfectly fit the medieval setting of Bruges. It is a point where the romantic atmosphere, the story, the photogenic beauty and the sweet local traditions meet. In addition, the location — between the Cathedral of the Virgin mary and the area of Gruuthuse — makes it a perfect stop on walks, but also ideal background for yearbook pictures from Bruges.

The Bonifacius Bridge (Bonifaciusbrug) is one of the most charming and romantic spots in Bruges, tucked away behind the Church of Our Lady. Despite its medieval appearance, the bridge is relatively recent, dating back to the early 20th century. Its quaint stone structure, ivy-covered surroundings, and views of historic buildings and canals give it an enchanting, timeless atmosphere. The bridge crosses a peaceful canal where swans often glide, framed by old brick facades and overhanging trees. It’s a favorite stop for photographers, couples, and tourists seeking that fairy-tale feel Bruges is known for. From the bridge, you can admire the picturesque rear view of the Gruuthuse Palace and the canal-side architecture that defines the city. Though not grand in size or age, Bonifacius Bridge captures the magical essence of Bruges—quiet, beautiful, and steeped in the illusion of history.

Maybe the most beautiful bridge in Bruges! For the second photo viewpoint, tour the Gruuthusemuseum. Definitely a must do when in Bruges!

Go first thing in the morning. Wake up early and get there before the tour groups and the crowd of tourists get there and you will see just how beautiful this bridge is. The first time we went, it was so full of people, we could hardly cross the bridge. It was unpleasant because people did not want to move and many were standing in the middle of the bridge just chatting so there were traffic jams. The next day we went at 8 am and it almost looked like a different bridge. Worth waking up early for!
