Best Restaurants in Jonesboro and Forest Park, Georgia | Eater Atlanta

"This Nigerian restaurant in Forest Park serves as a reminder that the West African country’s cuisine contains myriad flavors, textures, and dishes. The egusi with beef is a force to be reckoned with, and the jollof rice is a spicy and smoky testament to how flavorful rice can be when it’s prepared just right. Try the okra stew with fufu, too." - Alex Leo-Guerra

This is my second time using them for catering. She catered jollof rice, egusi soup, vegetable soup, fried fish, fufu balls, and moi moi. Everything was delicious and ready on time. My guest enjoyed the food.

Google
Food was piping hot and amazing!!! I loved the beef. It wasn’t too tough and it was well seasoned! Jollof good too! I’ll be back to get the whiting fish. It looked soo good but it was my first time here so I decided to ease into trying something out of my norm and I cannot wait to come back and try the whole menu!!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at this Nigerian restaurant, and it was truly a fantastic experience from start to finish. The service was exceptional, with our waitress going above and beyond to make us feel right at home. The food was absolutely delicious, brimming with authentic flavors that reminded me of home-cooked meals. And let me tell you about the efo riro soup– it was outstanding, easily one of the best I've tasted in a while. Overall, this is definitely one of the best Nigerian restaurants I've had the pleasure of visiting, and I highly recommend it to anyone craving authentic Nigerian cuisine served with warmth and hospitality.

Google
The food was amazing and the service was exceptional. Bukky did a phenomenal job with assisting us with our order. I was with my elderly Nigerian father and she went above and beyond to assist and made his and our experience most enjoyable. The food was plentiful. We had the beef stew, spinach and egusi. I would definitely visit again and had great conversation with a gentleman named Zulu from Congo who is a regular there.

Me and my finance decided to try African food for the first time here near Atlanta. We were not disappointed. She enjoyed the fufu but I was blow by the fish and rice. Felt as if my ancestors were calling my spirit with flavors. Thank you so much we enjoyed ourselves.

Google
The worst ayamase I have ever tasted! Tomato paste has no business in ayamase! If you do put it in the stew pls stop doing that it tastes nothing like ayamase. It was so bad all I could eat was a few plantains and plain white rice with a few meat because I just couldn’t stand the taste. It’s definitely going in the trash just so disappointed because I was really looking forward to my food. Nothing on my plate tasted good!

Google
Booki is the best! I ordered the okra and spinach with beef and fufu!! So good! Taste just like authentic African foods!!

Josh E.

Yelp
Dine in and take out available. The owner was very nice and helpful. The portion was generous and the flavor was great. Jollof Rice and Plantains A-: Could have used a little more heat Overall Value : A

Yelp
The food was cold and tasteless. The meat was old and hard. The service was poor. The place was not good seemed like it needed to be cleaned. Overall I will never eat here again. I can cook Egusi better and with more flavor. Ask my Nigerian friends.

Yelp
An authentic Nigerian food experience! I found Boniks while scrolling the map looking for a place to eat. I am glad serendipity found its way to my plate. Egusi soup is my standard test for Nigerian restaurants. But when I overheard someone mention okra soup, I changed my mind. (Egusi and okra are my two favorites). The okra soup was the real deal. Topped off with tilapia (Boniks didn't have any more chicken), the okra soup had the flavor and the consistency I want. While a little on the oily side, I happily ate. I also had a side of fried plantain that had the exact ripeness and sweetness that I like. My friend enjoyed the beef and jollof rice. I sampled some of the jollof and wish I had saved tummy space for more! Note that you will need some patience if you visit during a slow period. I was there on a Monday evening, and it took some time to get served. It almost seemed like a one woman show. I didn't mind though because I was also there to hang out with my friend.

Yelp
The food was great, and the service was good the food came out quickly. They have a pool table you can play while you wait

Yelp
Really intimate experience eating and talking with the owner about the traditional flavors and cuisine of Nigerian food. The jallof rice and and egusi were really flavorful.

Yelp
My aunt and I tried Boniks after Scott's Antique Festival. This was her 1st time trying African food and the experience couldn't have been better! The food was great, and the atmosphere was AMAZING We were standing at the counter when regulars came in. They were excited that newcomers had popped in so they welcomed us with open arms and they treated us to lunch. Boniks is tucked into a large and mostly empty shopping center but I guarantee it's worth the visit! The portions were large, restaurant incredibly clean, and of course the atmosphere

Yelp
First off the customer service is Amazing, I was greeted with a smile and she took my order right way, The FOOD here is outrageously good!!!!! I ordered the jollof rice with beef and the egusi!!!!!! I am going back today! I will forever support this establishment 9/19/23, I even tried to take a picture of the food and was eating at the same time, next time I'll upload a photo

Yelp
I ate here for the first time. I ordered egusi with mixed meat and jollof rice with mixed meat. I actually thought I would get a mixture of different meats. What I mainly recieved was big bones with this thick grainy gelatinous substance attached. I was just a hunk of fat. I don't know why they did not cut off the bones. What purpose was there for allowing such huge bones to remain with no meat attached or with just a hunk of fat on it? There was no chicken. A tiny little piece of very boney fish. About the size of what would fit in a spoon. And it was nothing but long sharp bones. There was one tiny dried piece of some type of beef that tasted as if it was prepared weeks ago. It was not even edible. The egusi itself was ok. But it lacked in flavor the way in use to egusi being flavored and the melon they use in it was not stirred in fully. It was grainy. The egusi had few greens. It was just the grainy melon substance, swimming in palm oil, with huge knee or ankle bones of some animal with fat attached. I won't ever return for their egusi. No not at all. It's not worth the money. The fufu good in that I could tell it was prepared fresh. So it helped when I used it to eat the egusi. The jollof rice was ok. It had a weird aftertaste. In fact much of the food had a weird aftertaste. The African woman working behind the counter was nice. She was more spirited than what the workers I usually encounter in African restaurants. She said Thank you continually. That alone makes me more likely to return to give their other dishes a try. Maybe they were having an off day. We all have them.

Yelp
My friend put me on to this place, was a bit skeptical at first but after tasting the food that all changed. Prices, food, and atmosphere was all great. Wont lie, the lady in the front gave a bit of an attitude but I got over it.

Abigail A.

Yelp
Good food....but the owner's attitude is soooo bad. I would love to patronize it more but get ready to be abused for good food. I question myself everytime I consider going.

Yelp
I finally found this place!!! It sits in the parking lot to the far left, next door to a dental office. I was greeted by the sweetest lady. I ordered okra stew w/fufu for 14.00. It is delicious and the right level of spice for me. I finally found an African Restaurant near me that I believe will be my spot. You can sit in or order takeout. She had music playing on the tv. Nice size restaurant and clean. I didn't get a picture of the menu and she didn't have menus to go.

Robin U.

Yelp
I should have turned around as son as I walked in the door. It smelled like something died inside that place. It was loud and rancid. I wanted Efo Riro Soup. The soup looked really good but, it messed up my stomach! That almost never happens. I will not be going back there ever again.

Nyteria J.

Yelp
Service is terrible and I have ordered from this place multiple times anytime I order jollof rice with fish it comes exactly like that but now it doesn't .... I will be contacting corporate!!!!!!

Levi O.

Yelp
Very friendly staff, food looks and smells amazing! I enjoyed picking up my food and can't wait to eat it!

Naomi S.

Yelp
The food is usually good. If you order Togo it will be cold the lady in the front will never warm anything up. They never have ogbono soup even though it's on the menu. The service is absolutely horrible. The lady with the short hair cut is extremely unprofessional and un-approachable. She is rude every single time and very very lazy. It always has a weird smell in the restaurant. It smells like a restroom in there. But I really just came to leave the review on the lady that's always in the front. She is so rude it don't make no since but all I have to say is talk to her the way she talk to you stand your ground. She would be the reason I wouldn't eat there but when I don't wanna cook this is a good option.

Yelp
Great , amazing food. The owners are a beautiful couple (they actually were smiling) . I had efo and egusi. There was a little spice to food , it was well worth it. I recommend this place a million times over. Please make sure to get the fish, it's a whole headless fish , awesomely flaky. This is my new spot to get my fufu fix . Try them out

Mr T.

Yelp
Unless you've got so much money to spend and don't mind the small food you get in return, I'll say go for it. Paid almost $40 on Postmates and got just 2bowls of food. A half plate of veggies and a bowl of jellof rice. I was shocked. That's like a full meal fee at chilli's with lots of food to go round. The lady who served my veggie soup must be stingy in real life... like how do you charge me $14 for one spoon of veggie soup. I'm confused. African y'all have to do better. This is greed at its peak. Then the $14 is just for the soup, if you want the swallow you have to pay another $4. Like wtf. You never go to get tacos and they ask you to pay extra for the fillings. Or go to get pasta and asked to pay separately for the sauce. Y'all still brought this greed over here. Anyways , last time I'm buying here. Y'all be safe with this place though.

Tange H.

Yelp
If you're not Afican, you don't get fresh food or good service and the amount is different .....someone tell her to treat everyone the same

Trinni Y.

Yelp
I cant help but to tell the truth. If youre not African you just dont get the same treatment. My food is cold and only a little. Maybe blacks are looked upon in the establishment. No matter the taste of the food, if ANY maltreatment is experienced I will decide to take my business and money to another restaurant where the customers are appreciated regardless of ethnicity.

Mechelle M.

Yelp
We have been coming to the restaurant for at least faithfully about six months. We`ve noticed that the service and pricing changes each day depending on who is the cashier. The lighter cashier charges more than the darker woman who normally is the cashier. Also I've noticed how rude the darker women is. Sometimes we have to apologize to many of the customers because of her rudeness. I also get cold food and not the same amount as her "Friends" of the same culture. The "Friends" have fresh HOT food while mine is given to me COLLLLLLLDDDDDDD! Just treat people RIGHT or my money will go ELSEWHERE!!!!!!

Jhada G.

Yelp
Amazing , great food. Great customer service! Probably my favorite place now ! Must try the Jollof rice and chicken . Egusi was good too.

Letitia D.

Yelp
Nope don't do it the food portions don't make it worth it . I got the egusi soup and oat fufu everything was bitter and the beef they put in my soup was over cook to the point where it took me a long time to chew it.

Shari B.

Yelp
The egusi soup was dry and oily but the jolie rice and fish was perfect. I came pacifically just to have a goosy soup I was very disappointing.

Anastatia S.

Yelp
Efo Riro was amazing! Perfect blend of spice and flavor, heat level was noticeable but very tolerable which made this dish very easy to enjoy. Egusi and Jollof were perfect, will definitely be returning!

Myrna M.

Yelp
My Nigerian delightful find..Friendly; Clean; Tasty...this will regular chop shop..have already informed most of friends from Kenya; Ghana; Jamaica; and Liberia family too

Tia J.

Yelp
If I could give it less than 1 star I would.. I have eaten Jollof rice many times and this taste like some one scorched the pot of rice and smoked cigarettes and dropped ashes over the plate and mixed it. The damn egosi was dry as hell ... save your money oh did I mention the chicken was raw...

Lex G.

Yelp
I had vegetables, shaki, beef & egusi on top & foofoo when I say DELICIOUS ITS DELICIOUS. The shaki wasn't toooo toooo tough or too tooo soft, just right everything was AWESOME! Keep up the great work!

Yelp
Auntie behind the counter will ALWAYS suggest the most delicious menu items for you to enjoy! If you're on the south side looking for something to tantalize your tastebuds, Boniks is the place!

Elle J.

Yelp
The Egusi and FuFu is great. I always order it with no meat. I took it home and my family devoured it. We went back the next day to get three more plates. It's very good!!

Giovanna C.

Yelp
the food is good , but i drove 44 minutes to eat here after looking up if they was opening and they were not ... most of the time they dont have what you want and the costumer service is not good ...

London B.

Yelp
My dasher said that when she got there they didn't even start preparing the food and they didn't even know my order she also said that the worker was very rude and that the place was very filthy.I do not recommend and would not order from this place again

Abeline N.

Yelp
I'm mad I didn't know this place was so close to me sooner! I always come here now and love it everytime, real and authentic!
