The 17 Best Restaurants & Hotels Between Big Sur & Cambria - Big Sur - The Infatuation

"Dining in Big Sur often means choosing between cafes or fine dining. Once you reach Cambria, though, your options open up a bit and Boni’s Tacos will be a welcome relief if you’ve been surviving on sandwiches and salads along Highway 1. Order a bunch of tacos filled with chicken, carne asada, and pork chile verde, but don’t miss the al pastor that they cut fresh off the rotisserie spit when it reaches that perfect level of char. This counter-service restaurant is great for a quick bite on their outdoor patio, or you can swing by their taco truck on weekends, when it posts up next to the Pacific Premier Bank." - team infatuation, allison green

The Al pastor tacos and burrito were as tasty as everyone has raves about. Really like that the had 3 sizes of burritos. The junior/small was perfect if you’re not that hungry. The line and the waiting for our food was a bit long- 25 minutes so that was probably the most negative part of our experience. Parking was challenging too. Service was friendly. I can see why this place is so popular but worth a visit.

Google

This place is the bomb! You have got to come here! The food is exceptional! Cesar is absolutely awesome. We sampled this salsa negra rib and it blew our minds! The breakfast burrito is the signature dish here. Definitely tasty and super fresh.

We love Boni’s so much that we hired them to cater our wedding! They were a hit with our guests, as many of them already know how delicious their food is and were exceptional to work with. Cesar was very kind and made the process so easy. He was very informative about my concerns when it came to guests with food allergies and ensured me that everyone would be able to enjoy without worrying. They offered a taco bar option which was perfect for the overall atmosphere we wanted at our wedding! My husband and I always make it a point to enjoy a burrito here whenever we’re in town too. Not only do I recommend them to cater your wedding, but I recommend just eating here if you’re looking for a great meal in Cambria! 💙

Google
Boni’s Tacos is a must stop food spot in Cambria! I will definitely be returning! Authentic Mexican food, made with quality ingredients and lots of pride. My mom had the 3-taco plate with carne asada (steak) and I had the taquitos (chicken) both plates with ride and beans. We shared a flan for dessert! Absolutely delicious!

Martyn Conkling

Google
The Tacos were juicy, flavorful, warm and fresh. The salsa was delicious and fresh, I scarfed down the taco plate and enjoyed every bite. Lots of tables and places to sit, Definately a perfect place for a chill lunch or brunch if you want to sit outside and just chill

Google
So tasty! We stopped by today after Hearst castle. The pastor and pollo tacos were so good. The tortillas are made fresh right there and everything is so flavourful. The guys were so accommodating even though they were just about to close. To boot, they even threw in flan for us. We will definitely be going back again. *7/24/23 update* So tasty and delicious. We love stopping by here after going to Hearrst castle. This is my third trip here and it won't be my last. I ordered the carne and pastor tacos. So good! *7/15/24 update* so tasty! one of the highlights to our camping trips up here. We always stop by after Hearst Castle. The service is fast and friendly. The food is so tasty. We highly recommend!

Google
Delicious breakfast burrito to go and have back at home. Just the right portions of everything inside.

Yelp
My gosh, best breakfast burritos ever!!!! This was our first time here, and we absolutely LOVED it. We got the breakfast burrito with Al pastor, and it was gone within seconds. The service was quick and friendly, and we could tell the meat was fresh. It's a food truck located on a nice corner, with plenty of street parking and seating around it. Definitely has a nice and welcoming feel to it. It felt very local, which we appreciate since a lot of places can feel a little tourist-trappy. We will definitely be back!!!

Yelp
Cambria, you need more food trucks!! Sorry Boni's the overhype is real. The alpastor has great flavor but that's about it.. The salsa is bland and almost seems store bought no flavor. The tortillas were so undercooked. It was like $15 for 3 tacos + drink that contained noooo extras. No grilled onions, no radishes, no jalapeños, no avocado, no guac, no extra anything. Tacos has silantro and onion. I didn't even get a lemon. Super sad, looked up the reviews and thought I would be in love. Stick to the fish out here! Service was ok super busy A lot of people around here have never had authentic tacos :(

Yelp
Okay, so I've been coming to Cambria for years (like since I was in my 20s and now I'm in my 40s long) and only now did I discover Boni's. I'm pissed. All this time, there was amazing al pastor tacos just chilling on Main Street. Like really? Why haven't I been here before? So rude. Anyway. The Al pastor is so good. My husband and I shared a taco plate and as I write this, lightweight upset I didn't get a burrito because their beans and rice were also really good. Like, I'm also lightweight upset they were closed Tuesday-Thursday cause I was really hoping I'd be eating a goddamn burrito as I write this. They also ate quite popular. There was a lot of regulars that came up while we were there because more than a few times I hear "Usual order?". You know then it's a good place, We also had the chips and salsa. Chips were okay, like, acceptable and not going to complain. I do wish they were homemade though. The salsa though? My god. That was good. Like, I wanted more of that too. If you are hankering for amazing tacos, look no further than Boni's.
google avatar

Christina M.

Yelp
Well, I don't have any pictures of the food to post along with my review, because we straight gobbled it up upon receiving our order LOL! We actually stopped into Boni's 2 times, one going up the coast and then on the way back. We ordered the Al pastor tacos, quesadilla and chile verde Gordita, everything was super yummy! Love that they cook the Al pastor traditionally, it's so good! The Chile Verde Gordita was epic good, the pork was so tender! The food comes out pretty fast, the staff is friendly and there are places to sit outside the food truck that are comfortable. Highly suggest Boni's for great Mexican food in Cambria!

Yelp
The service was great but expect a 5-10minute line due to how popular it is. This is a little food truck just off a popular street so you'll be hearing the cars pass by. The Breakfast Burrito was excellent! This is a very good burrito made with care to ensure it is both juicy inside and crispy/dry on the outside. Good price, good portions, great food. Strongly recommend!

Yelp
This place is a must try. I got the large carne asada burrito, no rice & it was the best burrito I've ever had. The tortilla is flaky & grilled to perfection, generous amount of perfectly seasoned meat & the beans are also next level delicious. The al pastor was also some of the best I've tasted. The freshness and quality is unmatched, I can't wait to come back!!

Ben C.

Yelp
Food and service are fantastic! Anything Al pastor and the special red salsa- must have.
google avatar

Yelp
The best tacos we have ever had. My husband has been up and down the Central Valley of California. He's said Boni's are the best tacos we've ever had.

Yelp
When you see a line at a local taco truck, you know it's going to be great! Crazy that I waited this long to try this place. My company raved over it...so duh! Of course, I was in! We shared the most delicious chili verde burrito and we each had a pastor taco...omg! Soooo good! I'm so glad that I finally tried Boni's! Thanks to my companion for the great recommendation!

Yvan S.

Yelp
Boni's Tacos is THE place to get Mexican food in Cambria. My wife and I go to Cambria twice a year, spending about three weeks a year there (for 15 year, now) and we eat there AT LEAST twice a week. The food is delicious, the service is impeccable, and the only negative is that they're only there Friday to Monday, and we can't eat their food, Tuesday through Thursday. Their prices are so good, we typically order four or five tacos (occasionally mixing in a burrito) plus one that is just meat and tortillas, which our dogs LOVE as much as we do!
google avatar

Karen G.

Yelp
Delicious Al pastor tacos, I gotta go back and try the burritos next time!! I visit here every year and come to Boni's almost everyday for lunch!! Have been coming back for 7 years, never disappointed.
google avatar

Yelp
Love their veggie burrito (with green salsa). Things we love about Boni's are: consistently good food & such a welcoming + relaxed vibe.
google avatar

Yelp
We have seen this taco truck in Cambria for years and never found the time to stop by. I recalled years ago reading about the owner, Boniface, and his efforts to provide good food to the community. This past week, we made the effort to find out why there were lines of people at this humble taco truck. The lines are a direct result of delicious Mexican food. The young man taking orders was extremely polite and helpful. My wife ordered the three taco plate and I ordered a taco pastor and a chili verde gordita. Oh my, what a taste treat. Everything was excellent The pastor was very good but I was thrilled with the chili verde. I ended up ordering a small burrito of straight chili verde. Yummy!!! We will definitely go back and enjoy their good food and dine outside at the nice location. Bon Appetite at Boni's!!!

Yelp
After a long day at the beach I was ready for a relaxed meal. So glad I made it to this food truck in time! I had the Al pastor tacos, which were delicious! The guys running the truck were very friendly. The food was prepared quickly. There are a few tables set up for eating. Definitely hit this spot if looking for a great meal.

Yelp
Solid experience here! We stopped in Cambria, a lovely seaside town, on the way up north. I had heard great things about this spot, so was looking forward to trying it. I got a carnitas burrito, which wasn't bad, but was a bit dry and lacking in flavor. Overall I'm not sure I would return, but am glad I tried it!

Yelp
Amazing food always. Love the taquitos de papa. Al pastor is also very good. Prices are on point.

Yelp
I do miss their kitchen in Tin City but you can never go wrong with their mid village Taco (and more) truck. They are known for their pastor and I have never had it until now (their chile verde is the best anywhere) and now I'm sad I hadn't been eating it sooner. So tender so juicy so flavorful. Get there early because they may not stay open until 3 since they sell out practically every time!
google avatar

Jonathan P.

Yelp
Very friendly staff, delicious food with good ingredients, not saturated in oil and cheese like most other Mexican places. And even very affordable prices. Al pastor tacos and red salsa (hot) were phenomenal, definitely worth a visit... or five!

Yelp
This was a pleasant find, as we were passing through the town of Cambria and had not looked it up before. There was just the right amount of drizzling rain to make us hungry for some hot street food. And there on the corner of Main and Burton was the taco truck with a cool sombrero painted on its side. It turned out to be the perfect lunch for exactly such a beautiful rainy foggy day. I had Tacos al pastor plate, one with and one without pineapple. They both were good. Others had Quesadillas with chicken. Those were also very nice. The hot salsa was great but wasn't really hot. The Verde was about ok. Pros: - Food was delicious and the right quantity. - Staff clearly enjoyed their jobs. - Focus was on food. No loud music etc. - Service and prep areas looked clean. - Location was perfect. Cons: - Parking! Being Sunday we parked in the bank lot but otherwise it may be tough. - Option to add chopped jalapeños to pastor would be great.

Yelp
Great meeting you today. You guys rock. Enjoy your time in Mexico. I wished I lived up here Out of all the places we ate and I'm talking to restaurants in the area, your place was the best. Do as brick and mortar and do it even better. I live in so cal so you know We Know Tacos Yours would be my go to. We tried the bean burrito and the beans were so creamy good man I wish you had a place by me. Hope to see you again some day. Felicidades!!

Yelp
Simple taco truck that really gives! They have Al pastor cut from a large hunk of meat. We had carne asada tacos and refried beans. Beans were Smokey and flavorful. Carne was flavorful. Red and green sauce great. Spent $20 for two instead of much more at other places in cambria. And enjoyed every bite
google avatar

Yelp
We went looking for a reasonably priced spot in Cambria and came across Boni' Tacos. There was a long line on Saturday afternoon but it was definitely worth it! The food was fresh and delicious. They have around 6 or 7 tables outside to use. Next time I'll get it to go and eat on the beach! Will definitely be adding this to our list of places to eat when we are in town.
google avatar

Bjorn t.

Yelp
An absolute banger of a food truck. 10/10, fast service and fresh ingredients. Somehow, still really accessible-- six tacos, and two sodas for $25, and most importantly-- absolutely *delicious* If I lived here, I'd eat daily.
google avatar

Maddison R.

Yelp
Food is delicious and the employees have immaculate vibes. As a cambria local, this is my favorite in town place to grab a breakfast burrito
google avatar

Gabriel D.

Yelp
It's a Cambria historical Landmark!! If you come to Cambria you Must have a burrito at Boni's, Chile Verde is my Favorite but don't let that deter you from trying the Carne Asada or the other Proteins that they do so well. The Green Salsa is like crack so darn addictive it's crazy, I save some to put on my eggs the next day. They should Bottle the stuff cause once you try it you'll be craving it. The guys working there are always friendly and work their butts off since they are always busy with orders. In short Boni's is a Cambria institution and it's a Must !!! PS: get your burrito a Mexican Coke and head down to Moonstone beach and have yourself a nice picnic
google avatar

Ron B.

Yelp
My wife had a couple chicken tacos, and I had an Al Pastor burrito, all was delicious. Very friendly service and clean tables, though you would want to only go in reasonable weather as it is only the outdoor seating.
google avatar

Rick V.

Yelp
We love the food here. Every time we travel to Cambria, we make sure to stop here. The Carne Asada burrito and taco are both delicious . My wife loves the Al Pastor taco.
google avatar

Honey B.

Yelp
Needed a quick snack. We only got two tacos and chips and salsa and it was the most flavorful meal I had my whole trip this far. That salsa made me feel like I got it from a restaurant in LA. The al pastore was tender and juicy, wish I woulda got morethan one taco. They used simple fresh ingredients. Definitely making sure to stop by here the next timei come here. And the guy that took our order was very extremely friendly and handsome
google avatar

Ramiro M.

Yelp
The Al Pastor tacos are legit and the salsas (red and green) had the right amount of spice. If you in Cambria give Boni's Tacos a try, you won't regret it.

Ashley R.

Yelp
From my son Clayton (7 years): Boni's is the best place and their burritos are really good but sometimes then's come too big. Them salsa is really spicy. People who like salsa and spicy stuff, try it.
google avatar

Yelp
Dropped by on my first day visiting Cambria. The food truck was in walking distance from my hotel. They are on the left corner of a large parking lot, with 3-4 small tables and chairs surrounding the truck. We ordered the carne asada burrito and planned to sit at the tables but it started raining even though it was sunny earlier. We ducked under the awning of the truck windows and ate standing instead. It was good...the carne asada burrito was juicy.

Jeff W.

Yelp
The website said $10.50 for a carne asasa super size breakfast Burrito, but when I got to the truck today the price was $15.50 + a breakfast surcharge of $1.50. Not even sure what the point of a breakfast surcharge is. Needless to say, a super size burrito for $18.50 is absurdly expensive. Please be aware that the prices online do not match the prices at the truck.
google avatar

Misty J.

Yelp
One of the best burritos I've had. They definitely know what they are doing here. I had Asada burrito and it was so delicious and made perfectly, boyfriend had Al pastor and his was also delicious 10/10!
google avatar

Heidi W.

Yelp
Best place in town to eat by far. Good prices and absolutely delicious food. We tried the Al Pastor tacos and quesadillas. We also too a burrito home with us for later. The guys there were so friendly and while we ate our tacos the man even brought us out a free taco for us to try and said that was his favorite. (I think it was a pork with tomatillo, I forgot what he said) Well I know why it was his favorite !! It was amazing. Next time we visit will be getting those. Don't be afraid of a line they move fast. This place is definitely a hot spot in town and now we know why, come check them out and you will know too.

Ustaza P.

Yelp
Respectable tacos for the area, the chile verde was particularly good, pastor was OK. If you are used to SoCal taquerias, you will find the selection and trimmings very limited, and the service slow. This is not a quick meal, there are long lines. It took over 20 mins to get our tacos, and when I suggested that this was perhaps surprising, the guy behind the counter snarled, gave me a dirty look, and said I should have expected this. Nor did we get our drinks while waiting for the tacos. Just a traveler passing through, but I would look for other options if I didn't have an hour to spend for lunch.

George B.

Yelp
Me, and my wife come down here quite often from Bakersfield, this time i brought my whole family. We love this place! Everyone is so nice, great people, the best tacos! If your on the 1 stop here, and treat yourself i promise you wont regret it!
google avatar

Helen H.

Yelp
Delicious food at a low price in the heart of Cambria's downtown area. I tried the asada and chicken tacos with onions and cilantro. The meat is well seasoned. The asada is chopped into small pieces and very easy to eat. The tacos were packed with meat making every bite very satisfying. There are a few tables to eat and customer service was great! Ordering was easy and it took a bit of time to make the food as it was made on the spot. There is off street parking, which I did not find to be an issue. They accept credit cards and will provide sauces in containers.
google avatar

Liana H.

Yelp
Best Mexican food in Cambria and the workers are always so friendly!!! My husband had the vegetarian burrito and I had the potato tacos.
google avatar

Keith L.

Yelp
Great go to place for authentic mexican food. Lots of variety and all are very good. Always busy but worth the wait.
google avatar

Solomon W.

Yelp
Super yummy get the Pastor it is super yummy. You will not be disappointed. Doritos are super yummy. The salsa is super yummy. Get some pineapple with your taco or burrito. You will not be disappointed.
google avatar

Amanda A.

Yelp
I've been visiting Cambria for years and I just finally tried Boni's.....Amazing! I had the Medium Breakfast burrito add pollo and avocado and it was perfection! Coming from the OC we know our burritos and this is one of the best I've ever had!!! The Verde Salsa was delicious and a perfect compliment to the chicken burrito!!!! Adorable benches to sit at outside! I will be coming back here definitely again!!!
google avatar

Judith S.

Yelp
Why is the pork chili verde just small dry cubes of pork with no verde? It used to be sooooo good but no more

J P.

Yelp
This restaurant came recommended by a friend. Did not disappoint! Everyone was so nice and kind and the food was delicious. Considering having them cater my wedding!
google avatar

Phia S.

Yelp
You know what I love about Boni's? It is that no matter what day of the week I go, or what time I get there, it seems to always be busy. For a Mexican restaurant that is more or less in a non-central location in a tiny seaside town, they are always full of customers. That should tell you just how popular Boni's is among the locals. Boni's is a BELOVED local establishment; that statement in itself still feels like an understatement. There is simply nothing on the menu that is not a 10/10. Everything tastes like a small bite of heaven. As a local, I have tried everything and I am never disappointed. Their al pastor is the most popular, but not a stand out simply because everything is a standout. It may be off the beaten path, however it is worth the stop. Boni's will and will always remain a local legend.
google avatar

Chickenderp V.

Yelp
Had 2 tacos and my wife had a bean and cheese burrito. Other than the food being amazing. The owners were super kind to us. One of the owners gave us some spicy but delicious chili for free. The place had tables and chairs and it was a nice breeze. I would definitely recommend this place if you swing by. I thiiink they're there Friday-Monday and close at 4pm!
google avatar

I'm The Bad Guy G.

Yelp
If you are in Cambria, you have to visit this place! I would support this business just for the amazing service, but the food is so so good! We were provided 3 different types of salsas with our food, just because they wanted us to be happy! If you visit the food truck, there will likely be a line, but it moves quickly, and the food comes out efficiently. Ask for the salsa negra or the salsa fresca. They are both amazing! They are happy to accommodate vegans and gf folks too. We couldn't wait to go back for more, and we ordered food to take home too! What an amazing business and family! This place adds a little sabor to Cambria's food choices.

Mary C.

Yelp
Second time eating there and both time I got food poisoning. I always give places a second chance but I won't be eating there again for sure.
google avatar

Savannah G.

Yelp
Delicious, good quality, authentic, Mexican food and a street taco picnic table truck sit down environment. You can tell the owners care about every detail because they even put fresh flowers on the picnic tables the day we visited. Pretty sure they're only open Friday Saturday and Sunday but if you're lucky enough to be there on a weekend, it's definitely worth a meal! The guys working in the truck making the food are super kind and lovely human beings. Both service and food are five stars in my book!
