It’s Manhattan Season — Here’s Where to Order One in Portland This February | Eater

"Nothing beats a neighborhood wine bar that also has a solid cocktail menu. Ran by brothers, one who bartends, the other who’s a wine expert, Bonne Chance in the Alberta district is just that perfect unpretentious place. Cocktails run from creative to classic, so don’t hesitate to order an Angel’s Envy Manhattan and take in the plant-filled space that’s a little kitsch, with a welcome dive bar chill." - Vox Creative

This is by far one of my new favorite spots in Portland. I happened upon it a few weeks ago and became a regular instantly. Mark the bartender/owner was extremely welcoming and made a really good drink. He is super knowledgeable about all things alcohol and the Midwest. Knows how to tell a great story! Rex the Mac and Cheese wizard aka Chef knows how to put a delicious plate of food together and make accommodations if needed. Try his cookies. You won’t be disappointed. 😘 Now the thing that pushes Bonne Chance above and beyond any other spot is that it somehow has created a community within a community. The moment you walk in you are welcomed not just by Mark, but also by the regulars or even others who just stopped in for a drink/bite to eat. It’s rare these days to find a place where you don’t see a single person on their phone. But, somehow this place is magic and it brings people together in conversation whether it be life long friends, lovers, family or strangers. Bonne Chance is a community and welcoming to all.

Had to update my review after we threw our wedding after party at Bonne Chance, the best bar on Alberta. The Ehrmans bring the funk and/or noise when hosting in general, but for our private event - they really went all out. It was a pleasure to work with them to set up a perfect late night party for our friends and family, and now I am just looking for an excuse to do it again. I recommend this place on any day they are open, it can be a little boring otherwise but still nice. Vibes, drinks, music, hospitality all on point. Swing by or be sad forever. Mozzarella Sticks.

Continuing with August popups… this gem of a bar hosted a collab with chefs Ryley Eckersley and Gary Marmanillo. Great food, awesome drinks, and a fun atmosphere. Bartender Mark is 💯

Google
Can’t speak to the food or the service for the restaurant experience, but the bar experience at night looks nice and cozy, but was ruined for me because I dared ask for a cocktail and was berated by the bartender with longer hair who was more preoccupied with getting weed. And I was only one of four customers in the bar with two bartenders. The bartender with the short hair was nice and tried to gloss it over. Went to the knock back bar after one drink, had much better service and drinks. Go there instead Editing to add two photos of responses from the owner to other reviews. It’s gratifying to know I wasn’t over reacting to his rudeness

Stopped in excited to try the place—left before we could finish ordering. Hard to enjoy a wine bar when the owner is already well ahead of the customers and more interested in slinging insults than drinks. Seems like a trend...... Good luck!

Google
Unfriendly staff with weird vibes. The two red pours were small and mediocre. One was thin and had a tinge of vinegar and the other tasted overly fruity, like a cheap box wine. It's a pity because the ambience was OK.

I can't speak to the food situation because I only ate here during the Ryley pop-up - hence the three stars for food. When I came during the Ryley pop-up, the food was good. Otherwise, it's a really solid neighborhood bar. Great wine list. Well-made cocktails (had one of the best old fashioneds I've had in Portland here). The bartenders/owners are really friendly and knowledgable. It's not pretentious. Just a great experience overall and I always have a good time.

Yelp
Better than bar Nina! But seriously, this is a personable, cozy, yet sophisticated bar with everything from wine to cocktails. As a visitor to Portland, definitely a highlight. Thank you!!!

Yelp
What an absolute banger of a bar. Menu items are all enticing and the cocktail menu is *excellent*, including the N/A options. It's got great vibes. Mark, the bartender, really knows his stuff, makes incredible drinks, and is a hoot to chat with. This place is bigger then it seems with plenty of outdoor seating, a very cool funky bar, and a fun lounge area in the back. My only regret is not living in Portland so I can't be a regular!

Yelp
Visiting Portland, and a friend recommended this place, they had a visiting chef that weekend and we decided to try it out. Lovely vibe the place was very intimate, the drinks we ordered were on point, and some super creative. We ordered the Muscles and dear God they were super yummy. The service was supper professional and we simply ordered all they recommended and they were amazing!

Yelp
This place is mostly a bar. I was tempted to come in cause I saw some delicious looking pics online, but the first time I came on a weekday they said they just had a limited menu of some basic bar snacks and their full menu was only available Th/F/Sat when the chef was working, so I came back Thurs evening and even called to make sure it was the full food menu. I was disappointed tho, the only additions were a burger and an omelette. We ordered a burger for $15, and it was so average. Barely better than a fast food party and untoasted grocery store buns w/ shredded iceberg lettuce. Guess the guy that made that tasty looking dish of mussels and bread must've quit. If you're just lookin for drinks tho this is a nice quieter spot. And the bartender is pretty cool. But no good food here.

Yelp
BEST SAZERAC I'VE HAD. This includes New Orleans. Excellent citrus expression technique.

Yelp
What an incredible vibe! Such good drinks, great menu, and the people running it are sweet angels with great style. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
This place is ridiculously cute with great food and drinks. I have been here a couple of times and I am always impressed when I do. They have a great wine selection. They also have some fantastic cocktail menu. Their food menu is definitely not something you want to miss. It is always changing but in the past I have had a fancy corndog, chips and corn dip (delicious!!), and devil eggs. I've seen their burgers and they look amazing. This is a great spot for dates and groups. They have outdoor seating too.

Yelp
We finally checked out this lovely bar on Saturday night and I can say it is as inviting inside as it looks from the sidewalk. We've walked by a few times and heard the great music and peered in and I'm so glad we decided to step inside. The bar smelled incredible because they were making their housemade limoncello. We sat near the bar and enjoyed a nicely-made Manhattan, glass of red wine, crispy melty mozzarella sticks, and a very yummy burger and fries. Everyone was friendly and the ambience is perfect. It was dark but warm, full of plants and fun lighting. The disco rhino over the restroom door made us giggle. We will definitely return soon. 6 stars!

Yelp
On my recent visit to Portland, I found myself needing to quench my thirst as the weather was warm! I was so happy to stumble upon such a unique Bistro. If a nice glass from a affordable curated list of wines is of interest, you found the spot. It's relaxing, and not fancy schmancy. What a nice place to chill and reflect. I had a glass (or two) of the Bonny Doon "Le Cigare Orange" - it reinforced my love of Grenache on a warm day.

Yelp
Stopped in for wine by the glass, which was incredible (sparkling, skin contact, and pinot noir), but the food really shocked us. We ordered like, half the menu, and every. thing. was. great. You could stop in for drinks and snacks and be thrilled, but this is such an underrated dinner spot. Great personalities behind the bar and the burner, too. Can't wait to come back.

Yelp
Such a great vibe. Mark and James make delicious drinks and have a tasty bar menu. Highly recommend. Just don't take my favorite table!!!

Yelp
Concordia neighborhood recently had a Pride celebration there and the entire staff was totally accommodating and very friendly, I had such a great time!

Yelp
James & Mark were truly the best. I've never had better service, they made my experience so pleasant. I would absolutely come back solely based off of the ambiance they created.

Yelp
