Bonnell's Fine Texas Cuisine

Had an amazing Blue Moon Supper Club experience Thursday, February 26. The unique menu for the once-a-month supper club was "Evening along the Crescent," a New Orleans-inspired meal. Everything was phenomenal (besides lighting for my pictures). The Gumbo Z' Herbs was my favorite dish, although the red beans and rice risotto were a close second. Also got the wine pairings. The Jean-Marc Brocard chablis did a great job nulling the spice on the gumbo. The Las Jaras Big Beautiful Buff Lodi, California-grown albariño was a standout with the fatty boudin & red bean/rice. Isastegi Sagardo sparkling cider from 500-year-old cider house in the Basque region was a treat! The high acidity balanced the sweet bay scallops. The Montagu pinot was a lovely, full-bodied red that paired perfectly with the redfish. The bananas foster bread pudding was paired with an Old Fashioned-style cocktail made with Ron Zapaca, Velvet Falernum & banana liqueurs, and walnut bitters. Transported you to Brennan's in NOLA indeed. Memorable birthday dinner from Kobi & crew and excellent service by Eric & Garrett.

I’m honestly not sure where to begin. We left feeling shocked and disappointed, especially because my husband has been wanting to try this place for years. We love celebrating special occasions at fine dining restaurants in the area, and with so many glowing reviews, making a reservation felt like an easy choice. Things started off a bit shaky. Our son ordered a lemonade, but it tasted off—more like Mountain Dew than lemonade. When we asked, our server explained that they only offer bottled lemonade and apologized for not mentioning it wasn’t fresh. Not a big deal on its own, so we moved on. For our meal, we ordered a variety of dishes: the redfish, a 16oz ribeye, shrimp and grits, and elk tacos. Unfortunately, none of them landed for us. The fish was dry, the ribeye lacked flavor, and the shrimp and grits—usually one of my favorite dishes—were covered in queso in a way that really overwhelmed everything else. By the end, we were genuinely confused about how our experience lined up with the restaurant’s 4.9-star reputation. I want to be clear that this is just our experience, and I know many people absolutely love this place. I’m not trying to discourage anyone from trying it for themselves. It just wasn’t the right fit for us, and my husband has been apologizing ever since. $230 I wish we could have back. I think I’ll be having some ice cream at home to reset my palate. Bummed.

Our evening at Bonnell’s in Fort Worth was memorable from start to finish. Bartender Dalton delivered some of the most surprising and thoughtful service we’ve ever experienced. After years of ordering martinis, we’d never had one served quite like this. Each martini arrived in a frosted glass, and just as the glass began to lose its chill, Dalton quietly swapped it for a freshly frosted one, keeping the drink perfectly cold and fresh throughout our pre-dinner drinks at the bar. The food was elevated Texas comfort at its finest, starting with Texas oyster Rockefeller and fried quail legs, followed by entrees that included elk, bison, and filet, with indulgent sides of gooey smoky mac and cheese and perfectly prepared greens. We were celebrating our mother’s birthday, which meant plenty of laughing, visiting, and sharing stories (not much attention paid to menus or timing). The staff graciously read the room, allowing us to enjoy one another while delivering seamless, attentive, and unobtrusive service. Bonnell’s struck the perfect balance of exceptional food, thoughtful hospitality, and a welcoming atmosphere, making it an evening we’ll happily remember and repeat.

A superb steak dinner experience. Perfectly cooked huge ribeye, with delicious sides to supplement the steak. Can’t ask for much more in a steak dinner in Texas and it lives up with a super quality cut. Dessert (tres leches creme brûlée) was spectacular as well.

We came here for the 1st time to celebrate our wedding anniversary.. Nilgai carpaccio had great flavor. The Hollandaise sauce on the Oysters Texasfeller was so good! We didn't get pictures of the main courses because we were in the moment, but Elk is my husband's new favorite meat after trying here for the 1st time. I had the mixed grill with bison, sausage and quail, fav was the bison. The chocolate truffles were very good and the creme brulee was the best I've ever had! Don't pass up on the Elk, it was the star of the show! Waitress was great, didn't get her name.

We went on a Friday evening during restaurant week. We had reservations and we were seated quickly. The ambience is a good date night place. The restaurant week menu was good. I got the tomato jalapeño soup that was outstanding. My wife and I split the pork chop and bbq salmon. Both were excellent. The mashed potatoes were outstanding. The peach cobbler for dessert was very good as well. We will go back!

Called last minute to ask if reservations were required and was told they are not but rather recommended. They made a reservation for us and had the table ready for us when we arrived. All within 15 minutes! Sheila, our server, was amazing! She had great recommendations and provided the best service. We had the Elk Back Strap, Buffalo, and they gave us dessert complimentary as we were celebrating our anniversary! The drinks we had were amazing, I don't remember the names, and they aren't listed on the website, but we were told it changes frequently.

Dined here last night for my birthday. I have been coming here off and on for about 15 years but haven’t been back in a while. Mox was our server. And the service, from the hostess on down was perfect. The food was excellent. We started with the quail legs. I had the Buffalo tenderloin which was cooked perfectly medium Rare (the potatoes melted in your mouth and the asparagus was great too. My fiancée had the mixed grill. And we shared a side of the brisket Mac and cheese. And everything we had was delicious from the old fashioned, which was one of the best I’ve ever had, to the birthday truffles they surprised us with. The brisket Mac and cheese came with house made pickles and they were amazing as well. My fiancée mentioned to the server that she loved them and asked if they sold them, he said sadly no, but when we were getting ready to leave he surprised her with a container of them to take home. And to top it off, on our way home we received a phone call from the restaurant. I was thinking one of us had left a Wallet or something, but they called to ask if they could have my fiancée’s email address so they could send her the recipe for the house made pickles. It’s such a little thing but it’s such an amazing thing to do. I have loved Bonnell’s for a long time. From the first time I dined here when Chef Bonnell walked around and talked to every table. I have recommended them to everyone I could. That being said, the last couple of special occasions I’ve had I’ve dined at another steakhouse on Main Street in Fort Worth and have been let down by them consistently. Coming back to this experience at Bonnell’s cemented that this is my absolute favorite place to dine in Fort Worth. I wholeheartedly recommend this place for a special meal.

Alphabet Date B. This has been on my list of places to try in Fort Worth and we finally got to go. It was super hard to get a reservation here during the weekends so we ended up getting a reservation mid-week, which was nice because it was quiet. I love the Texas decor inside and the chairs were comfortable. Because I've been wanting to go here, I wanted to taste a couple of different dishes. I heard the elk was good so we ordered the elk tacos as an appetizer and it came with green chile cheese grits. Yeah, definitely worth ordering. We got the Tijuana caesar, which tasted like any other caesar, to be honest. I think I would've gone with the True Blue Texan or Bonnell's house salad next time, but hubby loves Caesar salad. I ordered the pepper-crusted buffalo and hubby ordered the tequila-lime game hen. I got the buffalo medium rare. It was cooked perfectly. It had a little gamey taste to it, but I liked it -- husband, not so much. He's not into the gamey meats. The truffle potato pavé was ridiculously good. Potato pavé, truffle and salted caramel are my weaknesses so to have 2 of the 3 in one dish was heaven. Hubby's game hen was so fresh and light. I really enjoyed the flavors of that dish. We also ordered the brisket Mac and cheese. It was yummy, but we had to take it home because we barely put a dent in it. To finish the night off, we ordered the tres leches creme brûlée. OMG. Probably the best creme brûlée I've ever had. It was so silky and smooth. It wasn't too sweet. Highly recommend. Our server was really sweet and super professional. She was attentive and really purposeful in the way she interacted with us. That's the only way I know how to describe her service. I would definitely come back and try other things on the menu. I'm sure there are plenty of wonderful, tasty dishes that I would love.

***This review is for family to go meals*** We often order the family to go meals. It's so easy. Just order online from the weekly menu. Pick up anytime after 4pm I believe. Go home, reheat and you're ready to eat. We have yet to order a meal we didn't love! Our favorite is the chicken fried steak. We also like the salad that comes with most of the meals. It's a great value and we hope to one day dine in person!

I've been here 3 times. Without exception, I have been so pleased with the entire experience. We always make reservations and we have never had to wait past our reservation time. Waitstaff is on point each and every time. I've always gotten the steak. I've had both the filet and ribeye and both were perfection. Ribeye - A very generous portion. So generous, there was no way I can eat it in one sitting. Cooked perfectly and not over seasoned. I'm a steak purist. I don't use anything but a generous amount of both salt and pepper on the steak. I cook them in a cast iron pan with butter and garlic. Obviously, the steak at Bonnells is cooked way better than I can do on my own. I appreciate that Bonnells lets the beef shine and they do not overpower the lovely beef flavor with a crap ton of ingredients. Filet - The portion size is much more manageable but still plenty. I think it's an 8 oz filet. Generally I'm not a filet fan because I like the marbling of a ribeye much more. The filet at Bonnells is lovely, however. Again, they let the beef shine and it was cooked perfectly. As far as sides are concerned, the ones I have tried have been very good. The whipped potatoes are creamy and not over worked. The burnt end Mac and cheese is criminally good. I liked the creamed greens very much as well. I don't go here often given the fact it is an expensive dinner for someone like myself but I love having an occasion to splurge. Bonnells is one of the places I am always happy to splurge at when given the chance.

The food is well worth the wait and travel to get here. Chef Kobi does an amazing Lamb shank and came out to talk to us while we were here. I highly recommend asking for Garrett to be your server. He gave us great recommendations and his personal picks off the menu.

My dear friends brought me here to celebrate my 65th birthday. It was my first time eating at this restaurant. Upon opening the door and entering, I was struck by the amazing, peaceful ambience of the restaurant. The service was exemplary! I had the pepper crusted buffalo fillet and it was Absolutely delicious! I have never had such tender meat before, I could cut it with my fork! The appetizers and the dessert were also outstanding. If you want a really fine dining experience, this is the place to come! I am in a wheelchair, and the seating was not crowded so it was easy for me to navigate. Very interesting Texas decor, which was very pleasing to look at. I am hoping that my friends will want to take me there next year for my birthday! It was a unique and exciting experience. Next time I want to try the elk backstrap.

This is one of the top 5 places in Fort Worth that has consistently been in my opinion, the best of Fort Worth. First, from the moment you walk in the door, you are made to feel welcome and that the staff is there to serve your community. Second, I have never had a disappointing meal here, the kitchen staff is amazing. Finally, I understand how reservations systems work and that my table has another party waiting, but the meal is so perfectly executed and timed that I never feel rushed and like I need to vacate for the next paying ticket. This is my go to place for TRUE Texas cuisine (note I said Texas - think A&M and Ranchers NOT TEX-Mex).

Bonnell's has always been excellent, every time I visit. I love all their dishes, especially the wild game. The service is always excellent, especially Dalton! The decor is very Texan, with servery pieces of taxidermy. Overall, I think they're great and I'll definitely be back.

I was planning to take a friend out to dinner in Dallas but ended up staying in Fort Worth. We were looking for a good steakhouse and Bonnell's came up as I perused Yelp. I was a little concerned when we pulled up in the parking lot as the building looked like the lounge for a 70s-era motel but I needn't have worried. The interior of the restaurant is quite nice and is split into a bar area with some booths, and a main dining room. It has a very old school Fort Worth feel that I liked frankly-it may not be to everyone's taste but I think most people would feel at home here. The dining room is divided into groups of tables with tall glass and wood panels separating them, creating a more quiet and intimate atmosphere so you can enjoy a conversation with your companions. The farm-to-table menu is very focused with some very hearty fare including some game options. We started off with elk tacos, served on a bed of green Chile cheese grits. They were excellent and I'm glad we chose to split the appetizer because the portions are very large. We also enjoyed the wedge salad and house salad, both fresh with locally-sourced produce (the waitress assured us the veggies came from Bonnell's garden) and homemade dressings. Whiskey bleu cheese dressing--yum. Dinner entrees consisted of the elk backstrap and a buffalo tenderloin filet. The elk was beautifully done in two large medallions cooked medium rare and accompanied by a blackberry-chipotle sauce. The tenderloin was pepper crusted and also cooked perfectly with a nice sear on the outside and medium rare inside. The pommes frites were a bit too plentiful but were delicious nonetheless. Fresh cornbread was served with dinner but I never got to eat more than a sample (it was good too). I'm not a wine connoisseur but my dining partner enjoyed a selection from the extensive wine list, while I enjoyed a Crawford Bock with my dinner. Our server talked us into sharing a dessert, an extremely light and fluffy cheesecake topped with sautéed Texas peaches. Service was extremely attentive, friendly, and helpful in guiding us through the menu. I think the tucked-away location makes it harder to find and the prices are befitting of the quality you get, but it is very much worth the effort. Highly recommended.

The food here is amazing! We always start with Oysters Texadelphia, the bread/ cornbread & butter are so tasty, cocktails are amazing with many fresh choices. Steaks & seafood are typically our choice and they are excellent here always! Servers are always the best with great conversation, we always make a reservation for a smooth experience, even with a late reservation they do not rush you! All around favorite choice of ours especially to take guests!

Best Manhattan's anywhere. Try one with Angels Envy and Plum bitters. Whether I'm alone, with friends or entertaining, I love either sitting at the bar or in the lounge/bar area. It feels so cozy, rich and opulent in there. Add the exquisite service provided by true professionals and it's another one of those places where you just can't go wrong.

The service was excellent. Sheila was terrific! The Brie appetizer was good, except the bread was really plain and lacking. My husband ordered the Buffalo filet- the meat was good, the asparagus few and lacking flavor, the potatoes were hard and tasteless. I ordered the Redfish, which was great. The 3 mini carrots were sad and disappointing as was the risotto. And $19 for each glass of house wine??? Shocker! For such an expensive meal, we were disappointed.

How long has Bonnell's been open in this location? It seems like almost forever. It's kind of tucked away, but the parking lot was full when I arrived. I grabbed a seat at the bar and ordered a shiner, it should be the official beer of Texas. I found the menu pretty confusing and opted for two appetizers. The elk tacos and crawfish mac & cheese. The tacos were outstanding! They were a little messy, but they tasted great. The crawfish mac was delish, too. It was creamy and the bits of crawfish were just right. The only thing I would change next time is to ask them to hold the panko. The vibe at Bonnell's is pure Texan. I recommend dressing nice but not fancy and ask lots of questions about the menu to get the most out of your experience.

Great food, great experience, great drinks. Ate with my wife and some friends, the appetizers were wonderful. The bruschetta was amazing, buffalo steak top notch. Deserts were amazing as well.

This place is absolutely amazing and so reasonably priced for the great quality of food. The service was friendly and respectful. If you're looking for a great date night spot, the setting here is perfect. The menu can vary seasonally, but I highly recommend the Texas bruschetta to start! The goat cheese is made by one of the workers. All other food is locally sourced, and you can taste the difference. Highly, highly recommend!

Loved this restaurant! The food was outstanding and just out of the ordinary enough for my taste (I'm not super adventurous but like to try food that I don't find "at home". ). My friends and family mentioned all the next day how great diner was.

Website says they open at 4PM. Front door says 5PM. Misleading. Wish I could have tried the food.

I've only done take-out here, but, oh! the flavors, the quality, freshness, and innovation! They are helpful and careful on my gluten & peanut free requirement. Much of their produce and herbs are grown on the grounds. They support local ranchers and growers. Top notch.

Always excellent. This is my long term favorite for food, drinks ambience and service. The regionally sourced menu is marvelously unique and the flavors are always well-balanced and terrific. Prices reflect the quality. I've never been disappointed by an experience at Bonnell's.

Awesome food every time. We've been here many time over the last 10 years. Service is top notch sometimes and so so other times but never bad. Definitely recommend.

The service is great and the place was clean and the food came out pretty fast. I believe it's a little expensive for what it is. They have diversity within the menu but the food is OK. They definitely have some diehard fans for this restaurant. It was a good meal, but I wouldn't be immediately back. We had the oysters Rockefeller which I would give like a 6.7, the fried green tomatoes were not green... The steak was great. Tonight we had the chicken lobster nuggets that were OK maybe a solid six.

Fine dining with a Texas flair! Not many places you can get an elk tenderloin or bison. It is tender and delicious. The cornbread is a nice touch and they have an option of regular butter or jalapeño butter. Huge wine list. I only wish they had more European wine options by the glass.

Delicious food, wonderful ambiance, and great waiters and waitresses!!! Sometimes I would just want to order the free bread basket and be done with it! Take my money!

My wife and I were coming to Dallas for 4 days for our anniversary and we were looking for great places for dinner. When I saw Bonnells' menu I was hooked - lots of items that you just don't see in other places. So, I made a reservation and we decided to try it out. When we entered, we were promptly greeted and the hostess looked up our reservation and wished us a happy anniversary. We were immediately seated. Our server (Jamie) immediately came to our table, wished us a happy anniversary and asked how many years. When we said 38, she was genuinely surprised and engaged in short but personal conversation. We don't drink alcohol so our drinks (water and soda) were easy and they were promptly brought. Jamie asked if we had any questions about the menu and I asked what she recommended for an appetizer, She recommended the elk tacos with Green Chile, Pico de Gallo and Queso Fresco. We went with those and wow - they were very tasty. They were three mini tacos. The elk meat was prepared perfectly and all of the tastes just complimented each other. The tacos were really good! Next we each had a cup of soup. My wife had the soup of the day which was a red pozole. The smoked pork was very generous and tasty. There was a surprising touch of radish which was good; the hominy was perfectly prepared and frankly, really good. I had the Roasted Tomato and Jalapeno soup. I was glad that Jamie told me that it wasn't very spicy (I like really spicy food) or I would have been disappointed, but since she told me in advance I wasn't expecting something that wasn't there. The soup had a good flavor - wasn't bad, but was the least favorite of the entire meal. The cornbread that they brought was like a 6" round cake-like cornbread. It was extremely moist with a hint of sweetness (probably honey) and had the texture of a perfect yellow cake. It was served with sea salt butter and bacon jalapeno butter. Again - it was spot on! For the entrees - my wife had the Stuffed Poblano which came with black beans, squash, zucchini, tomatoes, toasted hazelnuts, corn, smoked tomato rice and Tomatillo Crema. It was excellent. Since she is a mac 'n cheese snob, she also ordered a side of their loaded macaroni and cheese. To say that the mac 'n cheese was one of the two best either of us has eaten would not be an overstatement - it was that good. It was like a loaded baked potato but with macaroni - truly fabulous. I had the Elk Tenderloin which came with whole grain mustard risotto and fried poblano rings. Where to start? The fried poblano rings were perfectly prepared. The batter was enough to make them crunchy but not so much that it obscured the poblano. The risotto was prepared perfectly as well. I've had some overcooked and some undercooked risotto but this was perfect and the flavor and texture were wonderful. The elk tenderloin. Quite possibly the most tender piece of meat I have ever eaten. It practically melted in my mouth. There was no 'gamy' taste which too often accompanies wild game dishes. I ordered medium rare and again, one of the most perfectly cooked pieces of meat I have had - it looked like it was prepared for a photo shoot. The presentation of all the food was amazing - like pieces of art. My one regret is that I did not take pictures of any of the plates because they were presented perfectly. We decided that although we were full, given how wonderful everything we'd eaten was, we were going to have to try some dessert. My wife had the toffee bread pudding with a soft toffee, vanilla ice cream and a hot buttered rum flavored sauce. I am a bread pudding snob and didn't order it because my wife did (we try not to order the same foods so we can share) - but suffice it to say, the hint of cinnamon with the soft toffee, ice cream and sauce was honestly in the top three bread pudding I have ever eaten. The presentation and flavor were great. I tried the Tres Leche Creme Brulee with fresh berries. The carmelized sugar was perfectly carmelized - not burned but a hard shell to it. The texture and taste of the Creme Brulee was exactly how it should be prepared. When they brought our desserts, the put them on large dinner plates an in raspberry sauce wrote 'Happy' on one plate and 'Anniversary' on the other - a nice little touch. The manager stopped by once during dinner to wish us a Happy Anniversary and to make sure we were being taken care of and that the meal was up to their standards. Our server, Jamie came by at appropriate times; engaged in actual conversation; and completed the total dinner. While it is a bit pricey (we knew that when we came and were not surprised at all) it is absolutely worth it. If we didn't have reservations elsewhere for the next few nights, we would probably come back - it was that good. Hands down the best meal we have eaten in any restaurant in at least the last 10 years and is definitely in the top 3 ever!

We came here to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. It's a cute place. The food was good. Buffalo tenderloin is amazing just a little too much peppercorn crust. The dessert was AMAZING and I have to say the Fort Forth old fashion is top in class. My husband went to the restaurant earlier to ensure a special evening. But our occasion was somewhat over looked until the end of the experience. So for future special celebrations, I'll definitely chose a different location. But this place is GREAT for a date night! They just don't do what many other places do relative to above and beyond. Again, food is fantastic! The Chef came to the table and is a stand up guy! And we will for sure go back for a date night.

Absolutely baffled by the stellar reviews. Bonnell's is average food at ridiculous prices. The drink menu was wrong offering a 375ml champagne for $28. When they provided the bottle it was a 187ML. The manager apologized and said it was a typo, as the champagne was $28 for a 187ml. Didn't bother to offer it to me in the amount (375ml) at the $28 advertised. Service was overall okay, but I'll never go back.

Appetizer for group to share - Elk Skillet - amazing, flavorful, well seasoned! Starter - soup: potato; smooth and creamy - rich, decadent, surprisingly complex from a flavor standpoint! Entree - Buffalo. I've never had buffalo before but chose this after a recommendation. The meat was super tender and the peppercorn crust was a perfect complement. The whipped yams were A+++ too! Service was impeccable and the ambiance was perfect. I was here on business but it would be a great date spot too.

We had not been here for far too long. What a delightful dining experience with unique menu items. The bar was hoppin' but our ambiance was impeccable. Food was great & service was too.

Our favorite steaks in Fort Worth. Everything was locally sourced and fresh and had good flavor. The grits and Brussels sprouts were a reason to go on their own. Their desserts were also amazing, the crème brûlée was fantastic. Our server was super friendly and accommodating. A little pricey, but well worth it. Highly recommend!

This remains one of the best restaurants in all of Fort Worth. Such a unique menu with a sincere Texas flair. The food is always prepared perfectly, and the service is outstanding. They have an excellent cocktail menu, great wine list, and a menu that is diverse enough for just about anyone. The exterior doesn't look like much, but the inside is warm, comfortable, and inviting. Prices are quite reasonable for an upscale menu and fine dining.

Great atmosphere and service. We had a group of 8 and ordered a large variety of the menu and everyone's meal came out timely and cooked to perfection. Highly recommend to all of my friends and family to Bonnells and Chef Kobi Perdue is exceptional

My wife and I went for our 12 year anniversary. We were told Happy Anniversary by the hostesses, and it was never mentioned again. Our server was very attentive to his other tables around us, but we seemed to be ignored. We were pretty well dressed, and i don't have face tattoos or anything. Our appetizer was phenomenal. The main course came out and seemed to have been sitting in the service window for a while. The asparagus looked sad. The Buffalo was overcooked. Honestly, I'll take my $300 and spend it somewhere else. Would've gotten better food from the Pizza Hut that was there 20 years ago.

What's not to love about this place! Great atmosphere and the food is always perfect!! Our server Melanie(?) was just a delight w her smiling personality and the others were too. Can't get a better steak than Binnell's. This is how you run a restaurant, and this is why they've been in business for many years. Don't change a thing

We ordered a fried turkey for thanksgiving from Bonnell's. It was so small and over fried and a little dry. I was disappointed for the $85 it cost. I also ordered yeast rolls and they turned out to be just like Sister Schubert's Dinner Yeast Rolls that you get from the grocery store in the frozen section, and not like the picture the restaurant had online, to top it off, they charged us $12 a dozen for the rolls!! Maybe the ones they show in the picture on their site are only served inside the restaurant but I don't know. So needless to say we will NEVER order thanksgiving food from them again!

An outstanding atmosphere is edged by the quality of the cuisine. If you like wild game this is your place. The bison filet mignonette peppercorn is unbelievable and the cornbread is like a dessert. The crème brûlée is delicious. It's a bit pricey but worth it in every way.

Always a fine dining experience! Great rare bourbon drink selections. Very good steaks and game meats. Great personalized and professional staff. Overall, 6 stars!
