Stopped here for brunch for the first time after driving by for years and always wanting to check it out! There’s a good amount of indoor and outdoor seating. We were seated right away at 11am on a Sunday without reservations. We shared the bacon avocado burger and Miso Roasted Winter Squash and Brown Rice Bowl. Really liked the bacon avocado burger with fries. The bowl was good just not very big. We added the crispy tofu which I highly recommend. Could have used more of the veggies but it was good. They also had various coffee drinks as well as cocktails and mocktails. Very friendly service. There was a parking lot as well as free street parking.

Our first time here and looking forward to returning! Many delicious dinner choices to choose from. I need to come back and try dessert.. the bread pudding sounds amazing.

I go here a few times a year and generally enjoy the place. Their food is decent but there have been a couple misses for me over the years, generally when something wasn't seasoned well or was a little over cooked. Cocktail program is good, happy hour deals are great. The staff has always been good and the space is very comfortable. Overall a solid neighborhood option with some good choices!

We tried Book Club. The food was good but just a warning for people with nut allergies that the menu isn’t appropriately labeled. We ordered a banana split and nowhere on there did it say it contain nuts. There were walnut sprinkled all over the top. We told them my son has a walnut allergy. We just asked them to take it back and take it off the bill. They took it back but did not take the charge off. Update- since this review I did hear from the restaurant. They credited the banana split which we were grateful for and said they plan to update their menus.

The restaurant gets full on the weekend very quickly, so might need to wait a little if you go late. I didn’t have to wait and got a table right away. The tofu is crispy on outside and soft in the inside. It’s drizzled with sweet savory sauce and with each bit, you keep on wanting more. The korean pancake was also tasty and delicious. It was well seasoned and same sauce drizzled on top, along with two sunny side up eggs. I didn’t like the ham on the side as much. It was salty to my taste. The rice bowl could use more seasonings to make it flavorful and not bland. I enjoyed the living and fun atmosphere the restaurant brings in.

Google
Very relaxed atmosphere. I was there about 10:30 so it was not a busy time. The waitress asked all the right questions and was on top of keeping my coffee warmed up. I had the basic breakfast, eggs, hash browns and (very tasty) bacon.

Very charming place that feels just like a cozy family home. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it the perfect place to enjoy a meal. Our server was exceptionally friendly and attentive, which added to the overall positive experience.

Google
Loved the bread pudding here! Like a French toast that got dressed up for a fancy party. Coffee was perfect. I always hate when chicken sandwiches are too thick but the one here is crispy and just the right thickness. I haven't even eaten the Cobb salad I brought home yet but it looks beautiful. Great service and a nice atmosphere. Lots of vegetarian and vegan options labeled on the menu.

Yelp
A good casual place for brunch, good food, just right portions (or maybe too small for big eaters out there) but sadly slow service as it took 15 minutes to get my tap beer and 20 minutes for my wife's cocktail even though the bar and the place was not busy.

Yelp
Great space and good outside patio and plenty of street parking. The staff was also kind and bubbly. I got the okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake) and it was quite flavorful and delicious. My partner got the breakfast burrito and we agreed that it was pretty bland. The chicken in the chicken sandwich was also pretty good, but the bun wasn't the best. Overall we had a great time here hanging out with friends; the food was mid.

Yelp
We came here for happy hour on a Thursday. It was quiet inside and just a few guests sat at the bar. Inside is decorated with lively wallpaper and the sunset warmly lit up the inside. We ordered drinks and a few items off the happy hour menu. The Korean skewers were a little overdone but the taste was still good. I really loved the Thai mayo that came with it. I used that same mayo for the pickled veggie plate because it just needed a little bit more sweet flavor. The plate came with a few baguettes, pickled onion and cauliflower and olives. We also had the mussels and man, those were the winners! The garlicky buttery broth was ugh so amazing! Don't forget to dip the sourdough bread in the leftover broth. Service was fine and so were happy hour prices. There is a small parking lot next to it, otherwise there is street parking.

Yelp
This place was really cute! The patio wasn't open when I went, but the inside was warm and inviting. I love that it's a restaurant, bar, AND cafe. Something for everyone! I do wish there had been more book-inspired decor though. Felt a little sparse given the place's name. Our server was super helpful and friendly. They cracked a bunch of jokes with us, which made for a very pleasant and relaxed visit. The black coffee is really good, but the cappuccino was especially delicious. I also got a double espresso, which was nothing out of the ordinary. For food I got the breakfast burrito, which was not only huge, but delicious! Highly recommend it!

Yelp
Had a very pleasant brunch at Book Club restaurant. Very cute aesthetic (though, I'm not sure where the name comes from? I anticipated there being more books!). Service was quick and friendly, even on a busy Saturday. I ordered the black bean huevos meal with added chorizo. It was very delicious and the chorizo has some spice to it! Though, I expected a little bigger for the portion compared to other brunch spots. I didn't try any of their cocktails or mocktails, but did get enjoy an iced coffee. I'll have to come back and try out the fuller menu soon!

Yelp
Nice specials Smell smoke from wood grill in patio Super friendly staff Nice, up-scale neighborhood joint with a lot of creative dishes and vegetarian options. Their happy hour is excellent and I recommend the fried tofu every time. We went to try their "vegan chef challenge" carrot bao and were impressed. The service was really friendly and quick! They've got a little patio up front that's dog friendly. Plus you can smell the wood fire grill! I cobbled together a meal from the HH specials and everything was really flavorful. Portions are a bit small on some dishes but the tofu was superb. I wanted to order the carrot bao and was told they were out of the dish. The server asked and apparently they had enough ingredients for a 1/3 of the normal dish so they made me a sampler portion for 1/3 the price; which was really nice of them. My wife said the pork belly was good but I didn't try it myself. I want to come back for happy hour again! They've got "early riser" breakfast deals that look good as well.

Yelp
I've been here several times for brunch. The servers are always nice and easy to talk to, service can be slow at times but every time I've gone there it's been busy so I get it. Prices are pretty good, especially for the area. Definitely a good spot to get together with friends and family!
google avatar

Troy R.

Yelp
A little bit loud, but a good restaurant with good food. I think the service was spot on, but the prices were a bit high and food felt a bit fancy for the atmosphere. Give it a shot with some friends, great drink options!
google avatar

Yelp
Another Happy Hour gem! Book Club's daily happy hour is exceptional. Beer, wine and cocktails plus lots of generous apps to choose from. My special favorites: the fries, the grilled cheese with tomato soup, and a nice cold one. My friends enjoyed margaritas, martinis, and a really good walleye sandwich. We topped it off with a banana split with crispy caramelized sugar (it was like a party!) Every time I visit the staff has been easy going and kind and the vibe in the restaurant is exactly right. Sitting at the bar is fun too--I've met really nice people, and you kinda feel like you do belong to a pretty cool club!

Yelp
I want to love this place so much as a walkable brunch destination... and it continues to disappoint. I rarely write reviews, but I was irritated after our most recent visit. We live just around the corner and love and frequent other neighborhood establishments nearby: Cafe Ceres, Red Wagon, Colita, Ace, Broders, Nicos Tacos... often with our kiddos. The last time I was there with my two boys, the servers were cold and seemed to want to get rid of us, but at the same time, they were also so slow. I haven't been anywhere else in the twin cities where I felt unwelcome with my kids. They are little and wiggly, but were quiet, not messy, and not disturbing other patrons. Decided to try again Sunday around noon with our two kiddos and my husband. It was busy, and service was slow even accounting for the busyness. Server took a long time to even greet us, let alone come over. She was not friendly, but that's fine -- people have bad days? After finally taking our order, she returns to tell me they have no huevos "because they are no more tostadas." So I say, that's ok, I see there are other dishes with flour tortillas, can the kitchen give me a flour tortilla instead? She says no because the flour tortilla is bigger (?!). I push back a bit, and offer to pay extra... and she eventually says she'll ask her manager. She comes back and says the manager said no. As I'm looking for something else, she adds, "also, there's no rice." Haha, ok... so I ask if the other dishes that have rice are also out, and she said "yes" and then volunteers 2 or 3 more dishes I can't order. Eventually I order something. Kiddos drinks take another 10+ minutes after all this to arrive. Food was good, but not out of this world. Not a big deal, but just don't really need to spend money here when there are so many other good options.

Yelp
Two stars for the Atmosphere. This place probably has really good Vegan dishes, the waffles looked like a good choice, but I fxcked up & got the Breakfast Burrito. It wouldn't have been as much of a shock I suppose, but looking over the menu I figured everything on the menu would be given the same level of care. I was wrong. The filling was ok I guess, but it was wrapped in what I assume is a store bought tortilla, and not one of those Cook at Home ones like Costco has, but a wax-based Mission Tortilla you'd find at a Holiday Gas Station. The sauce was... Ragu? Prego? Definitely not Newman's. Whatever brand salsa they have at Dollar Tree, that's probably what this was, only less spicy. Anyway, lesson learned. NEVER AGAIN.

Yelp
Went here recently with some friends and the food was so delicious! I actually first tried it several years ago when the restaurant first opened and had bookshelves everywhere and the menu was slightly different at that time. Now, the restaurant has a back wall with a few photos of framed covers and the menu is more extensive. The interior is beautiful and classy. I couldn't figure out what to get but ultimately decided on the sweet and salty bone - in chicken, which was incredibly tasty and unique. It was also huge ! It came with grilled broccolini and potatoes and I was able to eat the leftovers for 2 other meals. The food took some time to come out and didn't all come out at the same time - but we had a large group. Overall though, the service was great. We had amazing service and I can't wait to eat here again.

Yelp
Stopped here for brunch on a weekday and enjoyed it! Service was good and the interior was decorated nicely. I ordered the breakfast burrito which while good, was not the most memorable I've had. Will still come back in the future to try dinner or something else on the brunch menu!

Yelp
It was lovely to enjoy outdoor seating here for the first time since moving to Minnesota in November! We ordered the breakfast burrito (my husband enjoyed but I felt it could have been a little more interesting/robust in flavor rather than just some scrambled egg and potato), rice and bean bowl (very tasty but I wish it had been a little more substantial/larger), and kale salad (very bright and citrusy, parmesan was a great touch). The wait staff were really nice and friendly and welcomed us with our pup, making sure that she had a bowl of water :)
google avatar

Yelp
I had been interested in checking this place out for a while, but not sure I need to go out of my way to go back. I was happy to see a few vegetarian items on the menu. The tofu bowl I ordered look good but was a bit bland. I ordered a mocktail - a faux Paloma. Good concept but I should have sent it back. putting salt in was a good concept, but there was way way too much. I would have sent it back but it was nearly impossible to get our server's attention for anything. My friends whom I went with me assured me that it was an off night, so perhaps I will try again.

Yelp
Service was very pleasant! Atmosphere was cool. Food was not great. Sweet and salty chicken was dry and tastes roasted/smooked . Maybe there wasn't enough glaze but the chicken meat wasn't flavorful at all very dry, the skin had the smoke flavor. Steak fritz rough to get into. Asked for med-well and it was more med-(med-rare). Best part of both meals were the fried red potatoe salad which was nothing like I expected but great! Would only recommend those. Drinks sangria was not sangria- watery (not sweet or strong- no flavor) regular margarita was light but decent not too sour. Got a replacement drink for the sangria which was nice of them.. the fizz was good I would recommend !! Hibiscus was a little too bitter but not terrible.

Bert C.

Yelp
Maybe they'll greet you and welcome you into their restaurant. Or, maybe they'll refuse to serve you. I got the latter. It was a tad humiliating and made me feel real bad. I have no idea of their whims.

Yelp
Had heard about The Book Club on Mytalk1071.com. Heard the Stephanies were going to do their Weekly Dish show there today. Headed down and got a table near them. Doll had their special and I ordered the Huevos Rancheros. The special was a Japanese savory pancake with scrambled eggs and a bunch of vegetables with a drizzle of a thyme cream, Doll loved it. The Huevos Rancheros were fantastic. Crispy tortillas, black bean spread, salsa, avocado, and two eggs. So very good. Met Noah our waiter, and the chef himself, Ed. Both very friendly and Noah was great to talk with.

Yelp
City Tins brought us to the Book Club for the first time. Loved the vibe of the place. Very homey and welcoming. We were there on a Tuesday night at 5:30pm and it was full of conversation and energy. I chose the salty chicken as they have a woodfire grill and I thought that would be a good signature dish. It did not disappoint. Very tasty and falling off the bone but skin was still crispy. My sides were broccolini and green beans which were also very good. Husband had the Cobb salad. Love those Cobb salads when the chicken is fresh and pulled off the bone for the salad. He said it was very good as well. Service was excellent. There is a small parking lot next door. They have a nice patio but too cold to eat out there in November. Hopefully we will be back when it's warm.

Yelp
Great service tonight ! Until TRIVIA started......what an ill conceived idea! Will need to find a new place for our Sunday beer!

Yelp
Overall [2/5] Food is not good. Don't recommend and won't be returning. Food [1/3] Shrimp skewer was very tasty and the only thing that stood out that night. The fried tofu was good but wasn't anything memorable. The entrees were a huge let down. For how trendy this places looked, both the steak and chicken were very poorly seasoned and somewhat tough to eat. Ended up having to ask for the shrimp skewer sauce on the side and steak sauce in order to consume it. The roasted potato salad felt more like regular roasted potatoes, but at least it was tasty. Broccolini is pretty average tasting. Dessert (forgot to take photos because service was slow) was not at the level of a restaurant. Only decent one was the banana split, where there was some caramelization on the bananas that enhanced the flavor. Service [0/1] Very slow service. Other tables who order after us got food first. Ambiance [1/1] Great atmosphere, lighting, and decorations. Dining set was good.

Jeffrey D J.

Yelp
It's a nice quiet restaurant in a quiet community. That a good choice of main course items and enjoyed a nice cold beer.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I went to Book Club around 7pm on a Friday evening. They have a small parking lot available for parking right next to the restaurant. We were able to seat ourselves and chose to sit outside. The atmosphere was calming and quiet upon arrival but as the night went on more people joined us on the patio. I ordered an amaretto sour and he chose the gimlet. We both really enjoyed our drinks and they were both $14 each. We started our dining experience with the steak skewers. I am very picky with meat but these were nice. The appetizer was small but was a great way to start the night. For dinner I ordered the avocado burger and he ordered the curry dish. It was interesting that there was salmon and mussels in the curry dish as that is not something I normally see. We both enjoyed our meals and my burger was a nice Friday night meal. Our waitress was the perfect amount of attentive while taking care of so many customers. This was a great neighborhood spot!

Yelp
We came here since we had a coaster to use and wanted to explore something new. It's in a cute neighborhood next to many other popular restaurants nearby. We walked in and were seated right away at the time of our reservation, they warned us the kitchen was a little backed up so they would encourage us to put our order in right away. We did and were very surprised when our meals came out and we were done eating within an hour. I'd say that wasn't a backup at all and the service was fantastic. It's unfortunate if they get people who complain about something like that. They have such a wide variety on the menu, it's almost hard to decide which direction to go but truly there is something for anyone. Olives - came out pretty close to our meal, we were expecting these to be an appetizer but overall delicious and good! Fried chicken sandwich - this was average, nothing to "rave" about but a solid choice on the menu. Curry - my husband said was good and flavorful, unlike any other curry dish he's had with all the different seafood/fish in it. Mocktail - sugary and probably wouldn't get again Service - 5/5 they were working their butts off! Ambiance - good vibes and great decor inside, I can see why people like it so much. Overall, not sure we will rush back but a fun spot to check out and try outside of our normal routine!

Yelp
Jennifer C. was a terrific server!! Food was delicious. Drinks were creative and tasty. They have a lot to offer.

Yelp
This is a Minneapolis GEM . The food is unique, diverse, delicious, and decadent everyone raved about how delicious the meals were. The ambiance is a very cute place that's perfect to bring your family to and not too busy. Service was phenomenal, some of the best I've received. The servers were kind, attentive and fun. 10/10 highly recommend.

Yelp
Visited 5/3/23. Book club is very charming and I actually visited with a larger group for our own book club which was fun. It has a great selection of things on happy hour and we found ourselves splitting a few orders of fries to start. Solid fries with a good dipping sauce to match. I started off with the rotating sangria which was strawberry watermelon flavored and was great for warmer weather. The waitstaff was super helpful at narrowing down options and helped me decide on the avocado burger for my dinner. I would definitely recommend the avocado burger as it was perfectly filling and creamy. Overall book club made for a solid vibe and would be a decent pick for anyone in the summer. While nothing "blew me away", everything was tasty and the menu with its cute "book themed" headers is adorable.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. Lovely salads with loads of greens and fresh produce! Serving staff was excellent!

Yelp
We checked this place out during restaurant week. I loved the vibe and the decor but the service was definitely lacking. Our waitress was very nice but not very knowledgeable and it took forever to place our orders and then get each course of our meal. The food was good, the portions were tiny but guessing they served smaller portions for the restaurant week specials. The food was flavorful and I enjoyed everything I got!
google avatar

MC H.

Yelp
Our food came out at very disjointed times. The server forgot our fries, which were an appetizer, they arrived when we were halfway through our main dish. The food was average. We expected more flavor.

Ann W.

Yelp
The ambiance was lovely, but there was a problem with either the service or the kitchen. We had a table of 5 people and waited an hour for 2 pieces of quiche, a salad, rice bowl and eggs. While waiting, we didn't even get drink refills . One piece of quiche was delivered at an hour and the other came at an hour and 10 minutes. Both were lukewarm. The salad also took an hour and ten minutes. We were really looking forward to the Book Club, but will not return.
google avatar

Yelp
It was my suggestion to bring my four friends to Bookclub for lunch on Monday. I've had wonderful experiences before but I do have to say this was such a disappointment. We had reservations but we couldn't sit inside, because they varnished the floors so we had to sit outside. There was no umbrella available to shade us on the patio. After ordering, the server, came out to tell us 15 minutes later that the quiche was gone and to order something else. Then an additional 30 minutes later, our food came. After paying for our food with cash or credit cards, the server then told us they didn't have enough change to give money back. I really felt sorry for the server because she said her manager went to the bank to get more money. Honestly, it was a complete fiasco. Luckily the food was pretty good.

Yelp
We stopped coming here a many years ago after a few bad experiences. Where excited to try it out again since we live in the area and frequent restaurants a few nights a week. Looking to expand our usual list. Still horrible service. Will never return. We will stick with our usual Nicos, Red Wagon, Colita, Terzo, and Broders for our local restaurant outings. Unfortunate.

Yelp
Had super high hopes for this place. Came for brunch on a Sunday. Pros: - Really easy to make a reservation online. - Staff was wonderful and kind. - Space is beautiful. Cons: - Ordered a decaf latte and was given a caffeinated one. - My vegetable hash was soaked in oil with undercooked asparagus.

Yelp
Dinner at Book Club was just alright. Was expecting to like it a bit more based on all of the reviews, but that's okay, can't win em all! Came here Friday night with a friend around 6:30 pm. It wasn't very busy which was nice. We started with the Crispy Tofu, which tasted good but was not very crispy! We also ordered the Avocado & Bacon Burger and the Fried Chicken Sandwich. Both were sub-par. The fried chicken sandwich had a very vinegary flavor to it which was kind of off-putting. The burger was a very safe choice but nothing special. Our waitress was also incredibly slow. My friend asked for a refill of water and the waitress didn't bring it by until 15 minutes later. With how non-busy the restaurant was, I was surprised with how long she was taking to check in on us. We even waited about 20 minutes for the check after our plates were cleaned up. Cute atmosphere in a decent part of town, but not sure I'll be back anytime soon.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I have a list of restaurants we're checking off our list in the cities. We came here and had a great experience. The service was great and good ambiance. Their specialty cocktails were so fun to try. I recommend both dishes but my boyfriend got the sirloin and it was SO good! My bowl was good, but very acidic. Needed something creamy to offset the acidity. Overall, great service, great food, great ambiance. Would recommend!

Yelp
Cute place. Good food. Always have had great service here. Unique specials and great bloody Mary's!

Yelp
This has an amazing reputation and price tag that goes with it. However, I think you can go elsewhere for more interesting food for half the price.

Yelp
Recently went here for my monthly book club meeting and really enjoyed it. It's decorated very beautifully. I had the fried walleye sandwich and fries. The food was really good. I would definitely visit again.

Yelp
Fantastic service and delicious food! We loved the patio and had such a wonderful night sipping drinks and enjoying a great meal!

Yelp
Made a reservation for a Mother's Day dinner. Arrived on time and was seated promptly. We got waters, and then I think they forgot about us? Waited an uncomfortably long time to order drinks. One of the kids noticed how long it was taking. Finally did order and then another long wait to order. I had finished my drink by the time we ordered. Ordered food and waited over half an hour for it to arrive. We watched the table of four who arrived just before us order and finish their meal before we even get our food. The food, when it finally did come, was warm. I like my brown rice bowl and the kids both liked their fried chicken sandwiches. Wife did not like the shrimp scampi. This was supposed to be a special meal and it ended up being frustrating. We will not be back.

Yelp
Great drinks. Great appetizers. Good atmosphere. Service was good. Met friends for drinks and appetizer and it met the need. Enjoyed the drinks!

Yelp
Dinner picked up this weekend from @bookclubrestaurant ! Their California- inspired eatery brings a delicious variety of dishes to Minneapolis. Delicious food and great service! * Fried Chicken Sandwich- Lettuce, sweet pickle chips, and white vinegar BBQ sauce.

Yelp
Absolutely perfect. Service outstanding well worth the trip to south Minneapolis Bm

Yelp
Book Club, thank you so much for being open this past Sunday morning (7-26-200) for a lovely patio breakfast. I have really forgotten how good it can be to let someone else do the cooking. I must admit that I have driven by the former Cafe Maude establishment and your current place a hundred times on my way and back forth from Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church on Knox and 50th and never stopped. Enough is enough! My fellow yelper Carrie made an oudoor covid reservation for us and it worked out great. Your staff was very chill and friendly...we never felt rushed. I enjoyed a nicely spiced Bloody Mary with chaser and my dining friend a mimosa- no complaints. I really enjoyed the breakfast hash and I added bacon. Hats off to the chefs because the two fried eggs on my dish were perfectly runny! The flavor of the dish really exceeded my expectations and you know I am picky, picky. Thanks Book Club gang- I look forward to coming back soon and bringing my family too. Hang in there!
google avatar

Katlyn E.

Yelp
Food was very good! The patio is perfect for a week night dinner. They also offer you a free drink if you order take out, you can sit at the bar and enjoy while they make your food!

Olivia W.

Yelp
Food was good. The breakfast sandwich was like an omelette with sauce and an English muffin?? Wasn't expecting that lol. Service was a little slow, and restaurant was pretty loud so it's hard to hear the people at your table. But other than that, we liked our experience!

Yelp
Our book club actually did meet here (corny I know) but it was a cute little place with surprisingly good food! Our service was meh but the happy hour deals kept us happy. We all loved our house wine, cobb salad, chicken bowl, steak skewers, fries, and stuffed grilled cheese.
