I had the distinct pleasure of waltzing into Kinokuniya (bookstore) during opening day with my boyfriend. If you've ever been to Behind the Museum Cafe, it's created and run by the same sweet lady (Tomoe Horibuchi)! When I went to order, I noticed the Pickled Tea Leaf Onigiri, and instantly thought of the previously mentioned cafe. Then the woman taking my order seemed to look familiar. It wasn't until after I was already sitting down and tucking into my Matcha Latte that I googled it and made the revelation! I hadn't recognized her, because she wasn't in kimono like I've always seen her. I'm so glad she's doing well, and there's a second location!
She's been working with matcha for 20+ years, so I highly recommend ordering it if you like green tea. I've had the Matcha Set before, and it comes with a wagashi sweet. At the other location, they had momentarily run out of wagashi, but it didn't take long for her to whip out a fresh one for me. I can attest that it's made by hand.
The Pickled Tea Onigiri is a spin on something traditional, but I really love it. You can tell she takes pride in everything she makes. Speaking of which, DEFINITELY try the Matcha Brownie. It's so good, just trust me.
Don't do it if you don't like green tea. Also, if that's the case, we can't be friends. 😆
