Hiroki-San and Sakazuki have opened in the Book Tower in Detroit, bringing traditional and modern Japanese to downtown | Eater Detroit

"Along downtown’s Washington Boulevard Historic District, I saw the Louis Kamper–designed Book Tower, an Italian Renaissance–style skyscraper (with an accompanying 13-story Book Building) that had sat vacant since 2009 until Bedrock purchased both structures in 2015 and completed a seven-year, $300 million-plus renovation; it now houses the ROOST Apartment Hotel, high-end apartments, Anthology Events, and several new food-and-drink tenants, the last of which — Hiroki-San and Sakazuki — opened in January." - Serena Maria Daniels

Le Supreme is now open in Book Tower in downtown Detroit | Eater Detroit

"A Louis Kamper–designed Italian Renaissance–style skyscraper (with an adjacent 13-story Book Building) along Detroit’s Washington Boulevard Historic District that underwent a $300 million-plus restoration after sitting vacant since 2009. Purchased by Bedrock in 2015 and renovated over seven years, the landmark reopened to the public in June with the launch of an apartment hotel, high-end residences, and managed events spaces, and is positioning multiple new hospitality operators to reconnect locals with the property as part of its next chapter." - Serena Maria Daniels

The valet is so nice!! They are always on time and very friendly. Today they went above and beyond and helped to fix our flat tire. Marino and Ahmed filled our spare tire with air and even helped to replace it. We appreciate them so much!

Came for New Year’s Eve party. Spent the night. The hotel was extremely clean! The staff is amazing. Everything was run very well, very professional. The inside hotel is gorgeous. The rooftop has the most amazing views. The rooftop bar has great ambience. Put on a very good New Year’s Eve party, very elegant. Would highly recommend for a hotel stay!

Beautiful building with a lovely communal lobby area. There is a bar for coffee and liquor where anyone can relax or work. There are plenty of comfy seats or tables with charging stations. A great place to live, work and play. Some options for food, one restaurant is on the roof with some views of the city.

Beautiful restoration to this historic gem. Located in the heart of downtown Detroit with views of the Detroit River and the Gordie Howe bridge. Extravagant lobby with gold embellishments and stained glass on the ceiling. The apartments are modern with high ceilings and huge windows for incredible views. Great piece of architecture to view while visiting Detroit.

The manager was amazing. He helped us to find the best drinks ever. One of the best Old Fashion drink i had ever had. Beautiful, fancy and comfortable.

There is a $250 incidental hold for staying here which if you book using third party apps you won’t see that this fee is high, great apartments this is our second time unfortunately I didn’t like the responses from this hotel and will no longer be staying here. The hotel is amazing and the bar is great as well.

Kampers is the best spot for drinks and views.

Very impressed with the amenities and beautiful bones of this building. The marble and detail work representative of the time it was built would be extremely difficult to replicate today.

Yelp
I love this building! Such a beautifully restored historic building in downtown Detroit. There is even a room in the lobby that shows you old photos of the building and the history behind it. I love coming here because it has so much to offer. It's a hotel and also has apartments, but I come here for the food and bars. There is a French restaurant, a Japanese restaurant, a speakeasy in the basement, an indoor/outdoor bar on the 14th floor with city views, a lobby bar, and more. The lobby is beautiful and I love the art. I always bring visitors here and they love it.

Yelp
I've attended several events at the various restaurants here and worked with the events staff on several dinners. Their customer service is top notch! The event space is absolutely beautiful with stunning views through the skylight ceiling, and the food was excellent. I would for sure come back for any event. The renovations are absolutely gorgeous. I haven't stayed at the hotel, but definitely will next time, as it's really nice to be able to go to all the restaurants and bars and then great straight to your room, especially in the Winter. It's super vibey in the lobby bar as well as all the other establishments. A special shout out to the sales managers and staff - they're very communicative and make sure everything is set up well.

Yelp
I hate writing one-star reviews of local businesses, but sometimes it cannot be helped, and this is one of those times. The general manager for events at the Book Tower could use some etiquette lessons on how to be a decent person. And this happens often at certain places in the Metro Detroit area, where musicians are treated as second-class citizens when coming to perform at events like weddings or corporate parties. Like they are some nuisance, instead of human beings deserving some sense of decency and respect like any other guest walking through the door. An incident occurred while setting up the band for a wedding. My husband finished setting up and asked where he could put his instrument case, to which the general manager told him no cases were allowed in the building as per "policy." He flatly refused, and the wedding coordinator, also a stranger to him, whoever that kind and smart soul was, overheard and wanting to solve problems instead of create them, found a spot for the case in less than ten seconds tucked neatly under a table draped with a table cloth, all while the GM sat in a chair doing nothing. He refused because he would have to take them back down to his car, 13 stories below, get his car back from the valet, and load them into his car while it was pissing down with rain in under 20 minutes because the ceremony he needed to play was about to start, only to go back at the end of the night, have the valet get his car again to unload the cases, leave the car in the valet lane, while he goes back up 13 floors to load up his equipment, and go back down again to load the equipment into the car. So a bunch of needless busy work for not only him, but the valets as well, all because apparently in a 13 story "Tower" there isn't even a broom closet the musicians could pop their cases into for the duration of their set. Whoever set this inane policy needs to reevaluate what that actually entails, and come up with a better solution than a bunch of punitive busywork foisted upon those they deem beneath them. Like literally find a janitor's closet or one of the many antechambers I know are on that floor alone, and designate one of them for the vendors' equipment. Come up with solutions, instead of making problems. It's a bit like biting the hand that feeds, as it's making the job of entertaining a large crowd of people needlessly harder as you're putting your musicians in a foul and exasperated mood only to have them try to put on a great show for the people that pay your rent. It makes no sense. Further, you never know what the stranger you are being nasty to is going through, in this case, he has thyroid cancer, and doesn't need this pointless stress. Kindness is free. Do better Book Tower. A lot better.

Yelp
Simply stunning! This historic building in downtown Detroit has been restored beautifully and intentionally and is both currently home to and will soon be home to even more delightful businesses and spaces. After finishing up a late afternoon sips and snacks moment at Le Suprême, we headed into the lobby of the Book Tower, as recommended by the waitstaff at the restaurant, to check out. The result? Absolutely breathtaking. High ceilings, gorgeous architecture, I'm not architecturally savvy enough to speak on the specific materials used, but just make sure to look up when you're in the lobby of Book Tower. The lobby contains a bar that's open in the evenings in the back and almost feels like a hotel lobby. I believe there are some hotel/apartment style living options within this tower as well, and there's also an incredible and fairly new rooftop bar & lounge too (Kamper's) on the 14th floor. You get added to the waitlist in the lobby before they take you upstairs to the lounge. Off of the lobby, there is also a room that talks about the history of Book Tower and how it came to be, in addition to how it was restored. This is a lovely little room to understand a bit more of the background and history of this historic building, but just be aware that it's not entirely climate controlled in this room, so ends up feeling more like the outside weather, rather than the inside weather. All in all, come for the delicious bites (Le Suprême) and vibes (Kamper's), keep an eye out for new businesses coming soon (Hiroki!!), but stay a little longer for the gorgeous history and architectural appreciation!

Yelp
Front desk operation pick and chose who they want as a hotel guest. Seems like they prefer ppl of high status and/or non melanin folks depending on what event is happening in town(e.g PGA). Not cool at all! Wish I had two more hands to give them an extra two thumbs down.

Yelp
Excellent building with superb eats. Find the speakeasy bar downstairs if you have time.

Yelp
Live anywhere else. thankfully I moved before my lease end because of a job transfer. The walls are paper thin, so not only can you hear every move your neighbor makes next door above and below, you smell everything as well. The worst part is, I was TWO FULL floors below the event space. every weekend when there was a wedding reception etc, the walls shake from 7 pm to 1-2am with bass. you can feel it in the floor it's so strong. There's zero ventilation either. Don't plan on closing the door when you shower. For the price, go anywhere else and visit the beautiful lobby. The inside of these apartments are CHEEEEEAP.

Yelp
Simply garbage and the bar tenders are not quick. Meaning should not be bartender. The employees do not want to be there

Yelp
It's was a great day when I noticed the Book Tower.  The top is gabled and appears to be ornately decorated.  The decorations continue down the town in a sparse fashion until they reach the bottom where they pick up again.  Many of them are being refurbished or replaced right now, that is, the ones that are at ground level. I wasn't aware at first that it was being renovated.  It looked like a fine building.  Unbelievably this massive structure had apparently not only been vacated by tenants but abandoned.  It stood empty for many years.  Right now it is being remodeled.  It is a pleasure to watch the work progress. There is a lot of construction activity in the street below as the street level spaces are being renovated.  Up above the sounds and sights of highrise construction go on through the day.  The offices are large and spacious.  I am looking forward to seeing what will take up the space on the first floor. The building is centrally located in downtown.  There is a large adjunct building attached to it.  There is a LOT of space in there!  There are plenty of apartments nearby that are in good shape or in buildings that are undergoing renovations also. If you are looking for office space in Detroit this is a great building to keep an eye on.  I know I will.
