Amazing atmosphere and place for a quiet meeting, reading, networking event, photoshoot, and sunshine. The food was amazing I had the fig pizza. One this is that I couldn’t sit anywhere with direct sunlight because it was so hot. I think they need a light window film on the glass (just to keep heat out) because the glass house area because it was like an oven.

Don't get the espresso martini here. The first one was extremely sweet and my next one honestly had no alcohol in it. Both of them didn't have any head and no where near full. I drink these all the time and it's the worst espresso I've ever had. Service was also terrible. Took them about 30 minutes to take out payment. Very nice bar but so disappointing in the service and drinks

Cozy, chill but upscale-ish rooftop bar. Highly recommend! The drinks are great. The cheese and charcuterie board was very good and the mini sliders were just ok. French fries were good.

So despite the MID mid-town locale (nestled a block away from Grand Central) this cute little rooftop lounge is just the ticket. With both indoor and outdoor seating and a super chill “secret garden library” vibe, the drinks were good as were the nibbles. Added plus - it wasn’t loud so you can totally have a conversation and hear each other 😱. Overall, enjoyed our evening ☺️

Real talk. While cocktails are definitely Manhattan expensive the vibe of this space is just lovely. Service was great and cocktails are delicious and unique. It has a lot of great bites for dinner but it's not a place to sit down and eat a full meal if that is what you are looking for. I would definitely come back.

We hosted a holiday work reception in a private room, and it was such a comfortable and accommodating experience. The food and drinks were delicious, the space was cozy, and the staff members were super friendly and helpful. The space is comfortable and polished without feeling stuffy, and it's a great spot to host an event! Thank you, Bookmarks!

I see what people are saying about the service here. The atmosphere is very laid back with a nice view of midtown but the staff seem unmotivated. I came in for a drinks and quick bite to eat after curiosity of the location. It took me almost 20-30 minutes before even place an order. When I finally got my order of a beer a mini burgers no napkins were provided. Looking around I saw similar lack of service to people waiting 10-15 minutes for a drink. There are other places in the area with good views and way more with better food. If you love books that much then check it out. Tourist may enjoy it but a Google search will find much more.

Great chill rooftop bar! The drinks were really strong!! Highly recommend getting the truffle popcorn and the cheese board!

I met a friend here at Bookmarks which is a hidden gem of sorts nestled in a hotel . The service was great as well as the cocktails . Too bad it was winter as they have outdoor seating as well with some nice views . Low key and certainly worth the visit !

Cute midtown bar that's hidden and not too packed. We each got a cocktail - I got the Midnight Espresso but it tasted watered down. Would skip it. We then ordered a bottle of rose to share. I wouldn't be dying to come back here but it's a nice rooftop bar to catch up with friends. Our waitress wasn't too attentive. I asked for water and she only brought one glass when we had a table of 4.

Had a great time coming here for a quick drink after work. The bar is located on a rooftop of a hotel with an obscure entrance. We got there a little bit before 5pm so was able to snag seats before it got too packed. Nice and extensive cocktail list to choose from including small bites as well. Only stayed around for one drink and tried the Bestseller which was quite sweet but delicious. Definitely a nice place to visit on a nice sunny day.

On our last night in New York, we went for drinks a Bookmarks, a rooftop bar near the library. There's limited seating and we didn't have a reservation, but the wait wasn't long -- not more than 15 minutes. We each had a couple of cocktails (I don't remember which ones -- I didn't write it down), and while pricey ($19 each), it was a nice way to spend our last night. Simply lovely rooftop just off of Bryant Park. It was a perfect late-summer evening to enjoy drinks with close girlfriends. I appreciated that they had a nice selection of mocktails (which were sadly the same price as the actual cocktails). The pink peach fizz was refreshing and went well with the charcuterie board. If you're looking for a peaceful, pre-dinner drink spot, look no further.

Quirky motif for a bar that just seems to work. We went on a busy Saturday night but were personally greeted when we entered the door. They specialize in drinks with bitters so come with an open mind. I love that they make sure you have plenty of water!

I have been coming to this bar for years as I used to find it one of Manhattan's best kept secrets. The ambiance is beautiful and the sweeping views of the city are off the chain. The menu (cocktails and food) are usually high quality. However last summer I met up here with an out of town friend and the service was abysmal. The server was rude and annoyed if asked any questions. It was a great disappointment. I hope that they get some new staff to reinvigorate what was once a great place.

Awful service. Came on a Wednesday night (not busy) and although we were seated right away, our order wasn't taken for 10-15 minutes. Our waiter has been nowhere to be found since. The hostess sat another party and the table wasn't even cleared off. Very disappointing because the drinks were good- but not worth the AWFUL service.

I decided to drop in on a Monday night and loved how quiet it was the week of Thanksgiving. The staff was friendly and was quick to bring me my drinks. The ambiance and atmosphere are ALWAYS lovely, ans something was very pleasing about the fire in the fireplace and the night sky being open for us to look up from the balcony sitting area to enjoy the city lights. I had Dantes Inferno and the Sleepyhollow Sangria this time around, and it was delicious. I also had a glass of champagne for giggles. I've been here three times and absolutely love it each time, and I will be back the next time I'm in the city. Thank you again!

I went to drinks at Bookmarks last week with my mom. Bookmarks is located at the top of the Library hotel ,near the public library and bryant park. We were looking for something a little more low key while still being in midtown and Bookmarks was exactly what we were hoping to find. We arrived at 7:30 and were happy to see there was room for us despite not having a reservation in the busy December season. After reviewing the menu, we decided we wanted to try fun cocktails instead of wine. All the cocktails at Bookmarks are all book themed! I got the Gone with the Gin and my mom got the Spicy Romance. Neither of us loved our drinks but they were good enough and the environment was fun. We also got the truffle popcorn which was very rich and delicious. It came in a massive bowl and we almost couldn't finish the whole thing. I'm interested to give Bookmarks another try in the summer when the rooftop is open!

An excellent for gathering with friends. The food menu is not extensive but good. The drinks were good with specialty drinks along with the basics. The service was good, and the atmosphere was well above average. Not a rooftop but has a cute balcony.

Ladies - do not go here, it's not safe imo. In addition to having watered down and overpriced/unimpressive cocktails, I've never had worse service in a wanna be high end rooftop bar. The wait staff added an extra drink to our bill and got into one of the party's faces when we asked a simple question about it. The staff immediately spoke with aggression and was uncomfortably close to us, and spoke to us in an inappropriate loud tone. The staff proceeded to mansplain what an "interrogation" was after we asked to please calm down while we attempted to resolve the situation. Never had ruder service. I can't think of a redeeming quality for this place. Don't go here, especially women who want to be treated with respect. They need a complete work culture change in addition to a skilled/inspired bartender in their establishment.

The service was amazing, the drinks were unique and creative, and the tables and couches were comfortable--plus the view! My personal favorites were the Green Mile, the Spicy Romance, and Dante's Inferno. Simba was our server and he was so accommodating and kind--made us want to come back. Thank you, man!

Atmosphere Drinks Service decent Company Unfortunately the Frose machine was not working, so we didn't get to try the star of the cocktail menu.... However we did enjoy the Gone with the Gin, Summer Sangria, Dante's Inferno and White Lotus which I can whole heartedly recommend all of them... deeeeelish. Gone w the Gin was super cute definitely try! Cool spot to meet friends, ambiance is amaze and it's not too loud so you can still have a nice convo.

Make a reservation. Bookmarks is a rooftop bar at the Library Hotel. My friend and I came here and enjoyed the truffle popcorn, cheese plate, and a couple glasses of Sancerre. We had a lovely seating area to ourselves because I had made a reservation. Did I mention you should make a reservation? The weather was pretty cool the night we came here so we sat inside, but I can imagine Bookmarks being especially wonderful in warmer weather.

Stopped into Bookmarks for a cocktail on Friday night. Solid drinks, but expensive and the rooftop is not as exciting as you would hope. Quality: Bookmarks has some fun cocktails. I ordered The Spicy Romance, which utilized habanero-infused vodka. It is definitely more of a kick than I expected, so be prepared. I think a little more sweetness would be perfection, but still a good drink. My wife went with Gone With The Gin, which was very floral, exactly what she likes. Quantity: Standard drink sizes. Value: $19 for Specialty Cocktails. Ambiance: Bookmarks is a rooftop bar located in Midtown. On the ground floor there is a sister bar, but you need to take the shaky elevator up several floors to get to Bookmarks. The elevator lets you out in the main bar area, with a large indoor space to the left, a small greenhouse style lounge to the right, and a small L-shaped outdoor roof space next to the lounge. The views are limited with the high walls and surrounding buildings, but it is still a nice escape. Crowd: Two big groups, but otherwise pretty empty. The earlier rain may have spooked people away from a rooftop. Service: Staff could have circulated more frequently. Parking: Tough street parking in the area.

Came here on a Sunday afternoon and was surprised I had never been before. The roof was great, the menu was good (Great selection of wines and liquors) and the service was great. I didn't think the popcorn was very good but my date liked it. Given this spot is so close to my office seemed like a spot worth checking out again

Just do it. We stayed at the Library hotel for four days and visited this place every night before dinner for a drink. The staff is kind and attentive and they have an extensive menu with lots of options. Will be back next time we are in town!

This is one of my go-to midtown rooftop bars because in addition to being really convenient location-wise, it is extremely cute, has a great view, and is the right mix between casual and business so you can come with any crowd and any size crowd as well. The cocktails are solid. The outdoor area is not huge and only accommodates a few groups, but I've never had a problem finding a spot. The only downside to this is that the service is consistently slow, so if you plan on having more than one, build in time.

Was very excited to try Bookmarks as it is close to my office. The space was nice, small but a good atmosphere. The biggest impression made upon me during my visit though was the service... waitress was completely pre occupied, spilled drinks, brought the wrong drink, and just generally paid very little attention to the patrons. Food was average at best. Unlikely to visit again.

Great little rooftop if you want more of a low key night. I went here after dinner with work friends and enjoyed the extra space on the rooftop! Service was great as well. I had the Gatsby drink and was a fan of the egg whites in the drink. I would return!

Cute little bar. It's not really a rooftop so don't expect any views. Dark, not too loud, and has an intimate feeling. Great for a date!

We didn't make a reservation but it was just past 7 pm and there were plenty seats. The atmosphere was cozy and rather quiet. It was a chilly night and after spending some time outside, I was craving for something warm and got a hot toddy. We shared a mushroom flat bread with caramelized onions, goat cheese, and some pea shoots on top. Because it was already dark out, I didn't get to admire the plants and decor. We were sitting in the indoor glass-covered area. Like someone else said, there was no city view - but for the location and atmosphere it was nice.

Space was underwhelming tbh and they didn't even have basic cocktail ingredients like tajin, jalapeños, habanero sauce etc...only cool thing is the interior of the hotel itself with the books aesthetic. Overall, there are so many better rooftop bars in the city and this fell below average.

I was there in the late afternoon yesterday with some coworkers and it was really not at all similar to myprevious experiences there. The service was pretty bad and slow, and got worse as the afternoon went on. I waited for over 40 minutes for a drink, and we had to ask our server multiple times about both drink and food orders. Most of our group had left by the time the food finally arrived. It was pretty obvious they were short staffed and I get that this is an issue, but the staff was also pretty testy about it...I noticed others nearby left when they were not served in a timely fashion.

This place made me to start writing reviews. So cozy and comfortable. I love the atmosphere here.

Not the rooftop bar you would expect to find in the Grand Central area, but exactly the type you would like to find. A calm, green oasis - there is an indoor glass-covered area, as well as an outdoor section. The ambiance is quiet and peaceful and - even when filled with people, it does not get noisy or overcrowded. The library-theme doesn't go to far to become kitschy, but rather lends to the quiet, refined atmosphere. Each of the cocktails is literary themed. I went for the Pulitzer, which I enjoyed; and a friend decided to make her own. While prices are high, if you'd like a respite from the midtown scene, this rooftop bar does the trick.

I drop by on a cold Friday evening in March. What's going on with the weather these days? It was like 70 last week. Anyways, after the quick elevator ascent to the 14th floor, I arrive at Bookmarks. Pretty clever name actually considering it is a bar in a hotel called "The Library". The evidence is stacking up to support the argument that I'm either blind and/or retarded bc after walking in I completely missed the hostess by the bar. She offers us a seat in the back, we follow her through a room with a fireplace to the covered (bc it's cold AF) patio/rooftop area where she offered us the corner of a couch facing a bunch of other couches. A patron on one of these couches informs us half of the couch is taken. We elect to sit at the few seats of the bar the hostess also offers is. We walk back through the room with the fireplace to the bar near the entrance. Bar is full. Ok. We walk back through the room with the fireplace to the couch. Now we are informed the whole couch is taken. Another employee comes to offer us a recently vacated couch inside next to the fireplace. I didn't realize my run today was unnecessary with all of this exercise. We walk into the room with the fireplace and sit down on the couch. The fireplace has a real fire, quite cozy. Decor was really cool. I enjoyed the atmosphere. Cocktails are $16-$17, wine glasses are in the upper teens to 20s range, beers are around $10. I order pomegranate pear cocktail. We also order cheese plate. Drink was delicious. Cheese plate was fucking MASSIVE. Like gigantic wedges of cheese. My dinner that night legitimately consisted entirely of fucking cheese. Does my pancreas even produce enough lipase to emulsify all of that fat? Lack of any steatorrhea indicates that it does. I don't recommend googling steatorrhea. Lol now u can't help urself can u? Don't ask me what cheeses they were other than the easily identifiable Brie and bleu. I tried to do the bleu bc honestly I really do like it but I struggled with the image of hyphae in my head. The dangers of learning too much biology. (Joke credit to JK). Service was friendly but horrifically slow. I would say it took a minimum of 20 minutes to be offered another beverage after I finished my first one. This was really fucking annoying. We also had to hunt them down to get the check and then for them to pick it up off the table. We actually had to go up to the bar. I'd try another lounge next time.

This place is a rooftop bar but the wall is waaayy too high so I couldn't see anything! The greenhouse portion of space is really nice. It rained so we stayed in there for a bit. The outdoor space was nice and we sat a little table by the corner. Drinks were really expensive for the quality. Also we got a flatbread and it was SO TINY and TERRIBLE. It tasted like dry pita with a little bit of cheese. Never again.

A lounge called Bookmarks in a hotel called the Library? Yeah, it's a little expected. To call this place a rooftop is a bit of a misnomer; it's mostly an interior space with an exposed patio area. Plus, it's only on the 14th floor, so there wasn't much of a view of anything other than into the windows of the neighboring buildings. On the plus side, during the colder months, the outdoor area is covered and space heaters provide some (uneven) warmth. The space is pretty small, but I'm sure it gets the job done as most of their patrons are probably just their hotel guests. The decor is sophisticated, but I feel they could do more to play up the book/library theme. My favorite area was by the fireplace, which combined with the dim lighting, made it very warm and cozy. My least favorite thing about this place was that the bathrooms are located up a flight of service stairs, which completely detract from the vibe. As for the drinks, they are expensive and not that great. I tried The Hemingway, Bookmarks' take on the mojito. It was strong, but the flavors were not very well-balanced. All in all, I'm glad I got to check out Bookmarks. It's worth a visit for a nightcap if you're staying in the hotel and don't want to travel far, but there are definitely better lounges and rooftops in the area.

Came here on a Saturday evening to night time. It was not crowded at all, which was a plus as we were a large group. Our party mostly stayed inside because it was cold outside and it was very pleasant. Service was not that attentive and we had to flag the server down a few times, but overall a good experience. Would recommend and like to come back again.

Randomly stumbled upon this place the other night and I'm glad I did. Bookmarks is a rooftop bar on the 14th floor of Library Hotel, with plenty of outdoor and indoor seating/standing, yet it feels cozy at the same time. Seating options include a room with a fireplace, a room with the bar, and two greenhouse rooms so you can see the stars. Plus outdoor seating when the weather is nice. It's a mix of midtown after-work people, hotel guests, and couples/friends. The night we went, it was about 3/4 full, which was perfect. Lively, but no need to shout to be heard. Service is incredibly slow. We waited at least 20 minutes...not a waitress in sight...before we were able to order. As for drinks, I had the Pulitzer and my friend had the Catcher in the Rye. Don't let the silly literary names scare you off. Both of our drinks were outstanding. The Catcher in the Rye is like a Manhattan with a twist. I don't quite know how to describe the Pulitzer, but it hit every note - sweet, sour, bitter, and herbal - all at once. Prices range from $16-$20, not too bad for a hotel bar. The food is stupidly expensive though. $10 for a bowl of popcorn tossed in truffle dust. $11 for a tiny trio of cashews, wasabi peas, and olives. $20 for a cheese plate, but from reading the other reviews, this is what I'll get next time, because apparently it's enormous. I've been here in the summer, and the outdoor spaces are awesome, with comfortable seating and plants all around. However, it does get more crowded when the weather is nice. 5 stars for the drinks, the atmosphere, and the convenience to Grand Central. minus one star for the slow service and prices.

The best kept secret in the grand central area. This place was a perfect oasis, great for grabbing a glass of wine or sitting reading a book, basking in the last few minutes of NYC sunset. It's is a little hard to find and almost totally unmarked at the street level. They have very limited seating outside, so it's kind of hit or miss whether they're able to seat you, but if you can get a seat it's totally worth it! The menu and vibe are in theme with being a block from the New York library, and it has a very book-worm feel. I had the Pulitzer cocktail which was delicious (served up), and the veggie flatbread which included figs and really yummy cheese on top. My dining partner had the punch, which was quite a large drink that she really enjoyed. I look forward to coming here again soon!!

Such a cozy yet fun bar located within the Library Hotel right next to the New York Public Library. I came here with a group, that reserved some space in one of the side rooms. It was nice, because we had a lot of space to hang out and relax, while being served by a very friendly waitress. She was well versed in the menu, and was easily able to recommend cocktails and other drinks based on our groups preference. The cocktails are a bit pricey (about $17) but they were definitely well made! I loved that the cocktails had book and author themed names. I ordered a Tequila Mockingbird, which was kind of like a fancier spicy margarita. I liked it so much I got a second! We didn't go it there because of the cold weather, but they also have a decent sized outdoor space which looked very nice!

Nice area to hang out at on the 14th floor rooftop. We went in a group of about 20 or so and given heat we were in the enclosed area and found enough seating (we didn't have a reservation but they still accommodated us). There is an outside seating area with benches that can be used when the weather permits The staff is attentive and friendly The view is not bad (see pictures)

I liked my drink. Very intimate place. Lots of books. If you want to bring someone on a second date, this is a good spot.

The fresh air and views from the top of the Library Hotel made this a remarkable spot for work drinks. I had the Hemingway, a well mixed drink of rum, champagne, lime juice, and mint. Amusingly next to us was a stereotypical group of "ladies who lunch". A gaggle of well maintained Mrs. Robinsons gossiping away about their men, children, and wonderful (or not so wonderful) lives. It fit the scene quite well as the atmosphere felt somewhat society NY (read: stuffy). But before you attention deficit disordered young-ens out there write off Bookmarks as too staid, know the decked out cocktail waitresses with both their youth and attire can and will keep even the most soporific male patron from dosing.

This is such a great location, and such a cute theme- I feel like there's so much potential! The rooftop garden is really nice, especially on a nice night. However, the drinks are just not that good. I really enjoy a good cocktail, and have now tried a number of the adorably-named literary-themed specialty drinks offered at Bookmarks, and all have disappointed. They just don't come together, and something seems to be missing. In a city with so many great bartenders and mixologists, I think this location needs to up their drink game (especially at the high prices they are charging per drink).

Rooftop bar located on the 14th floor of the Library Hotel. We were a group of six and two of our group were librarians so we couldn't not come here when we were in NY. Pricey as previously mentioned but really good. I got the Ginger Passion and my friends got the Blood Orange drink. We also got a cheese platter (which had smoked Gouda, blue cheese, Port Salut and Don Wine goat cheese), the sliders, and the truffle popcorn which was amazing. We didn't know the last two cheeses, so we asked and someone came out and explained, which we all appreciated.

Expensive but nice rooftop location in the Library Hotel. Good service. Not over-touristed because of more obvious choices in the area. Very nice list of wines by the glass.

Awesome rooftop bar at the top of the Library Hotel, very near the NY Public Library. We visited on a Thursday night for an after-dinner drink. The outdoor portion of the bar was really crowded, but inside (where there was a glass ceiling, so you could see the stars) was almost entirely empty, so our party of four had the place almost to ourselves. We had a blast. There was table service, and we enjoyed some really excellent drinks. Their drinks all have literary themes, and I had a cocktail called "The Linguist". It was sangria cocktail, light and sparkling, and it was awesome. We all loved our drinks. From the service to the atmosphere to the drinks, everything about this bar was five stars.

We had an hour to waste before a dinner reservation at Grand Central, so we looked for a rooftop bar and found Bookmarks. This is a tiny bar with rooftop seating probably for less than 20 people, but there is an enclosed space at the entrance and a restaurant with a separate indoor bar area. I would not come here with a large party - more appropriate for a small group or date night. Don't picture a high rooftop with sweeping views of the city - more of an enclosed space with brick and mortar facades that you can kneel up on your seat and peer over the edge for a view of the street below. Having said that, I really enjoyed the low-key and unpretentious environment. Drinks were $10-15 and above. We ordered their signature cocktail and one of the sangria variations and found both to be refreshing without being overly sweet. It gave us enough of a buzz to get us moving to our dinner restaurant in a good mood. Service was pleasant and friendly. Would return again.

Nice ambience with outside and inside seating. You can view the city but very limited views. Not only that, but you can read here too! So come here and read and who knows you might be meeting your other half who also loves to read. But to tell you the truth the place isn't a library that's for sure. It's to chill and hangout. Being with a group would be nice. So, what are you waiting for? Come and read!

This is one of my favorite hidden bars in Manhattan. A great drink selection including book-themed specialty cocktails and a wonderful ambiance. I've only ever been in the fall and sat inside but it has a great outdoor area for summertime seating as well. Last time I was there I had the Pulitzer cocktail which was great.

Cute small bar at the top of the Library Hotel. It's a cute theme since there is a library themed restaurant on the first floor. There is a discrete side elevator that takes you to this hidden bar. When the elevator doors open you are transported straight into another era with a bar and two rooms on either sides. The right side is loungy. The left side has both and indoor space and an enclosed patio area. Although larger parties could be accommodated, many of the seating is for 2 people. It's kinda perfect for a casual spontaneous date. Drinks are very good with prices pretty standard for NYC, about $15-20. Service is good but sometimes you have to be a little aggressive about flagging down the cocktail waitress.

I came here for drinks and food after work on a Friday so it was super busy. The seating area though is nice and cozy. The drinks were delicious, I has both the passionfruit sparkling drink and the tequila mockingbird. The food was also delicious, we had the pretzels as well as the flatbread pizza with fig and pear. Def. Recommend this place if you feel like you have money to burn. The cocktails are very expensive and the food is a bit pricey too.

Located on the roof of the Libary Hotel this is one of the more low-key rooftop bars in the city. The few times I have been here it was not too crowded and was easy to find a decent seat and take in the views. It's a quieter joint and one that is a good date spot. Kind of a mix of locals in the know and guests of the hotel. Not a super hard partying bar but one where you can actually converse over a few cocktails and music in the background. There is an enclosed greenhouse area and an outdoor area to sit at. Decent decor and furnishings. As can be expected the drinks are pricey here so expect to drop $13-15 on a cocktail. Nice little specialty cocktail list with some nifty concoctions. I remember having the Pearl S Buck and the Bookmark's Cocktail both of which were good. It's the type of rooftop bar you go to for a relaxing scene and not an overcrowded loud mess of a place.

The first bar that I have ever been in NYC where I could actually hear what my friends said. Although I do not look like a nerd, I am a huge nerd who likes Star Wars and of course, enjoy spending time in the library. Thus, I decided to go to the Library Hotel with my friends and check out Bookmarks. Although it does not have glamorous design and the space is small, it is the perfect place for folks to catch up and enjoy the view of the library in the outdoor seating. My friends and I loved the summer breeze, and were pleasantly surprised that we could sit as long as wanted. We were there for four hours without interruption, which is extremely rare. Great place for nerds, couples and a crowd of friends. Come and enjoy drinks at Bookmarks!
