The best food and drink events in the Twin Cities, June 2019 | Eater Twin Cities

"Hosting its 6th annual Boom Days Bash to mark the Mississippi Riverside Cleanup Initiative and the release of the new brew Cuvée de Boom, this three-day brewery event mixes beer and food with family-friendly fun — including a free Corgi-petting session presented by the Corgi Racing Society on the last day — and it’s free, there’s beer and freaking corgis; wild stumpy-legged, fluff-butt dogs couldn’t drag us away." - Matt Gundrum

Got 4 delicious beers in a flight for a reasonable price. Service was quick even though it was somewhat busy. Good options for indoor and outdoor seating! There was a food truck onsite, but I didn’t get anything from it. Bathrooms were very clean and had step-stools for kiddos!

We have a long history with Boom Island Brewing, dating back to its early days in NE Minneapolis near Boom Island Park. The two founders are Kevin and Qiuxia Welch two classical musicians who bootstrapped their vision through family and friends investors. Of all things, they decided to make Belgian beers which are made in many complex styles with wild yeasts, high alcohol content, and a wide palate of flavors. Trappist monks make ales as work to go along with their prayers, and to support their abbeys. A few years ago, the owners moved into a large space in a Minnetonka office park, which was an easy ride for us, as opposed to trundling into NE Minnie. It is a light, airy, space with lots of seating configurations. The woods are blonde, keeping the airy feel. The main room is very kid friendly. We were happy to see families with young toddlers accompanying their parents into a place where they can crawl around freely and explore. Today, dogs are allowed only on the outdoor patio. It's not the owners fault, but the patio abuts to the parking lot and its okay. Parking in the complex's lot is tight, and when the food truck comes in, even more so. Overlook all of this and stop by as we did in early afternoon. The beers here are very consistent: we have never had a beer that we didn't like. We just preferred some styles over others. There are lots of watery, flat beers being offered in some of the suburban breweries, but not here. Belgians as a percent of the offerings have fallen, as a business has to accommodate what the customers like, such as IPAs for example. If you are bold, try a Doppel or Tripel Belgian, and you'll be transported back to Brussels or Antwerp. My wife and I had a flight of four. I chose a "Light the Lamp" Hazy IPA, with 7% ABV. My second choice was an Octoberfest Bavarian style Marzen Festbier at 6.8% ABV. My wife chose a Dusseldorf Alt beer called "Copperhead," at 5.5% ABV. Her second choice was a "Dark Horse" porter at 5.2% ABV. Number 1 in our hit parade was the Octoberfest. Most breweries carry one seasonally, but this is the best expression we've ever had. It is a very drinkable, sociable beer. The German Purity Council has strict regulations about their beers, and nowhere more so than for Octoberfest. No ingredients beyond water, yeast, hops and malt are allowed. Come out before October's end and try this. We took a can home for Sunday dinner with the family. Number 2 was the Dusseldorf Copperhead. I was not as complex as the Octoberfest, but we liked the hoppiness with a hint of orange. Number 3 was the Hazy IPA. My wife doesn't care for IPAs as a rule, for their usually high ABVs and high IBUs. This was not overwhelmingly hoppy, so I suspect lower IBUs. Grapefruit was easily identifiable, with a sweet contrast of orange. Number 4 was the Dark Horse porter redolent of coffee and chocolate. It was very smooth on the palate. We liked all the beers. Consistency is a very nice trait to offer. Service at the bar was patient and informative, even with a rush. The food truck didn't show, but we had the Martino's frozen pizza from Minneapolis, and it went nicely with the beers.

Cannot rate this experience high enough!!! If Atika is the person taking care of you I promise you it will be your very best experience at a brewery just like MINE!! To the owners, Atika is an asset to you!!! She is unbelievably knowledgeable on every single beer you serve and her customer service is quite literally the best and I mean best I’ve seen in my almost 10 years in the service industry!!!! In my humblest she will carry your business so FAR!!!!

Google
Great rotating beer selection, really unique styles. My faves are the Tropical Layover Sour and the Brimstone triple. THC beverages available. They have yummy Sorento Cucina pizza. Great venue for live music and movies too. Staff is always awesome. Nice patio as well.

Google
Went to see Grunge Unplugged with the wife and some friends. Nostalgic music. Was very busy even before 6 PM. Good selection of beers on tap. Had the Purple Rain hard seltzer. Hopefully was just flat because it lacked flavour. Limited food to four types of pizza toppings. Aside from seltzer and pop, no gluten free offerings. Would definitely come back to listen to more live music.

Google
Clean crisp beer true to style. Along with modern takes on classic brews and some dynamite Belgians. It’s always fun to see Jim serving. The owners are super friendly and welcoming when you see them.

Google
Boom Island makes decent beer, but they excel as a venue. For example, the Boom Con celebrating nerd culture was so much fun. They will bring in food trucks and the have a shelf with some board games available to play. Stick to their IPAs and avoid the more creative brews. There is indoor and outdoor seating available.

Google
An excellent brewery located in the Western Twin Cities. The building itself is nondescript, but the interior is large with high ceilings and a variety of seating options. They also have a nice patio. There is a huge selection of different beer styles available as pints or choose your own flight. I recommend the Wake Up Call as a surprisingly light coffee flavored beer. They also sell fresh cooked pizzas that are super delicious.

Yelp
Stopped at Boom Island the weekend before Christmas. I've heard of them before, but never had the chance to try their beer. The location is super convenient just off 494, and they had amble parking even while it was packed inside! They had some food options inside, but nothing that consisted of a full menu, some snacks, pizzas, etc. They also had a food truck there, which we regretfully didn't try with dinner reservations later that night. But there is something here for the hungry stomach! The beer was delicious. They had a good selection consisting of IPA's, sours, seltzers, some lights, ears, etc.! I had one of their IPAs and was thoroughly impressed as well as their Düsseldorf which was awesome. They had some NA beers and plenty of sodas for those that don't drink or the kids who are with. The service was top notch. The gentleman that was working in particular was super friendly and talkative. Helped choose drinks, and even offers some suggestions for dinner which we took him up on! There was also live music and the perfect kind for a mellow saturday night. Very spacious, and well thought out room plans. Would absolutely visit again!

Yelp
Good Ole classic Taproom! A good amount of indoor and outdoor seating. Lots of beer and nonbeer options. The tropical seltzer was really good. Pizzas and snacks available. Host a few weekly trivia nights! Really cute merch and friendly staff! Only feedback is add more light beers! :)

Yelp
Been a few times since they moved out of North Mpls and this is a really nice taproom. It's pretty large and they host a lot of events, food trucks, etc. I'll say that it was a bummer that they used to, but no longer allow dogs inside. Our veterinarian office is next door so it was always a great place to stop in afterwards. Their parking lot patio is still dog-friendly. The service has always been great, while their beers can be hit or miss. They specialize in belgian brews but have branched out since the move several years ago with some excellent seasonal stuff. I recommend checking them out if you're in the area as their Tripple and Quad are decent, but not as good as Unmapped Brewing, IMO. I just wish, since they don't have a kitchen, they let dogs inside.

Yelp
Walked in on a Thursday at 8:30 and went to order a beer. The first words we heard were "we close at 9:00" Not very inviting as I work at a brewery and would never say this to anyone unless they ask. We did love the environment and the beers were good!

B L.

Yelp
Been going here a lot lately. Good selection of tasty beers, some very unique, like Pumpkin Pie beer. Limited food inside, including pizza & pretzels which pre-made (not frozen) and cooked to order. Quality Food trucks outside by 2 patios. Dogs allowed on outside patios. Free laid back entertainment on Sat nights. Can be a little noisy inside when busy. Service always good. Recommend trying.

Yelp
Great brews, always having fun events but also easy to chill at a table with friends. Good variety of beers

Yelp
What a fun dog-friendly brewery! I LOVE when breweries are both indoor and outdoor pet-friendly. It was so cute to see all the pups sitting with their owners. My friend and I came on a Saturday afternoon and it was pretty busy! We luckily found a spot to sit since there were two different events going on so many of the tables were reserved. I'm not a big beer drinker so I opted for the Purple Rain seltzer. It wasn't my favorite flavor-wise, but it was great to have that option. There are also NA options! I'm going to bring my pup next time!

Yelp
This review is a bit different. I came to Boom Island Brewing Company a few Saturdays ago because Pronto Pups had set up its food truck in the parking lot that day. I had to go and try my first and second Pronto Pups in my life. There was plenty of parking. It's in a plaza with a handful of businesses. I backed into a spot and walked over to the truck, which was in a corner and across from the main entrance of Boom Island Brewing Company. The eatery and brewery has a large patio. It was a sunny day, but perhaps a bit cool to sit outside and enjoy a pint. I met the owners of Pronto Pups. They were friendly and cool. I enjoyed our chat. They found out that I was Canadian. I told them that I had salivated over their food after seeing it featured at the Minnesota State Fair last month. When I found out that their food truck was here, I needed to drop by. The woman asked me how many I wanted. I asked how large they were. The man held one, said that it's six inches, and is deep-fried to perfection in four minutes. Thus, it explains the Pronto part. It's also a dog with pancake batter around it, as opposed to a corndog that has cornbread batter. So much to absorb! I went with two Pronto Pups, which would be the equivalent of consuming a large footlong dog. I could so do it! The place takes cash and credit cards. An extra fee is tacked on if you use a credit card. It was $6 each. I happened to have $15 with me from my last visit to the Twin Cities (I know, it's extremely rare for me to have any cash on hand). I was so happy that I saved a credit card charge. I chatted with the woman some more as her hubby made my Pronto Pups. She asked me a cool question: "What can you get in the Twin Cities that you can't get in Toronto?" she asked. "Ooh, that's a good question," I replied, pondering hard. "I like asking such questions," she admitted. "Caribou Coffee," I replied. "I get it. I don't go to Starbucks. It's Caribou Coffee all the way for us," she stated firmly. Good answer. Mega points for me. My Pronto Pups were ready. They looked and smelled fabulous. I felt like I was at a fair. She asked if I wanted ketchup or mustard. She paints them on the pups. Paints? Wow! I went with ketchup. Sure enough, I got ketchup painted on them. She handed them over to me. I immediately drooled. I thanked them. They both asked me what I was up to this upcoming weekend. I said that I was attending my first Vikings game. Both were envious and nodded in approval. They said that the venue is awesome with the natural light coming in and that I'd have a fabulous time. I wished them a great day. They were pleased to meet me. The feeling was mutual. I walked over to my rental car to eat my Pronto Pups. I love pancakes. The pancake exterior of the Pronto Pup was yummy. It's like a breakfast dog that you can get from Pogo, but a ton better! It was crispy even with the ketchup painted on it. I bit into it and it had that pancake fluffiness. The hot dog was yummy. No complaints here. I enjoyed devouring my Pronto Pups. It is a bit steep to pay $6 for one. However, it's not like I have such a food delicacy often, so it was fine to indulge and enjoy them. I'm so glad that they set up shop here while I was in town. It was generous for Boom Island to offer a space in their lot for Pronto Pups. I hope to have a pint and some good eats here when I return. I saw that the place has a deal on Mondays and Tuesdays where you can get two pints and two pizzas for $23. Sounds perfect! The brewery does have an online store where you can buy booze and merchandise. The brewery also has non-alcoholic beverages, such as soda and kombucha. They are another good reason to return. (406)

Yelp
My hasband and I enjoy dropping in for a beer usually on Friday afternoons. It is always quiet and the beer is good! Love that it is dog friendly even though we don't have one. And at least when we have gone in there hasn't been children running wild. Yay! Nice clean taproom.
google avatar

Ted N.

Yelp
What happened! My wife and I used to come here a lot Friday afternoons after work to unwind from the week and enjoy a quiet beer. But now the music was so loud, we had to almost yell at each other across the table. And now the addition of video games and pinball machines, it was anything but enjoyable or relaxing. If you visit, just be forewarned, it's LOUD!!!! Please go back to the way it was.

Yelp
We were in the area and decided to give Boom Island a try! It was a busy Saturday at the brewery, but the staff was doing a great job keeping up and keeping the lines moving/tables clean. We had a flight of Wake Up Call (vanilla coffee blonde w/ lactose), Strawberry Milkshake Sour (kettle sour), Massive Nights (saison w/ orange and honey) and Fixie (abbey blonde). All of them were good with a strong flavor, but nothing spectacular.

Yelp
One of the things that surprised me about this place initially, lack of signs. I had no idea that I was pulling up to a brewery. Without the address on google, I certainly would have thought I was just in a business district of Minnetonka, maybe I missed the signs? I'm not sure. It's easy to get to, and they have parking behind and in front. The building, looks like a run of the mill brewery, but has adequate space inside, and has some nice features. I liked that they had dog treats at the door, and a refillable water station. The building didn't have an over the top smell like a lot of breweries do, which was great. The bar was easy to find, and easy to access. As far as the beer goes, it was awesome. Their Nitro has been one of the best Nitros I've ever had, and probably my favorite other than McCormicks Guinness in Wyzata. It's priced as you would expect for a Twin Cities brewery. The only problem we seemed to run into is their taps. They seemed to be producing too much CO which led to every beer being throughly foamy, and a line, since, they couldn't serve a half foam, half beer. The staff were super friendly, and the other non-IPA beers that I tried didn't taste overly hoppy, like I've found is the case at a lot of breweries. Some of the beers you couldn't really tell where what they were advertised. For instance the strawberry milkshake didn't really taste too much like one. With that being said, it certainly was a darn good beer, and my significant other had a couple of them. Overall great brewery, excellent staff, just hope they work out their CO2 issues.

Yelp
New Tropical Layover sour releases today from @boomislandbeer. Balance between sweetness and tartness provides a refreshing drink on a dreary day like today.
google avatar

Jason K.

Yelp
My wife and I were out on our Saturday "New Place" to try out and she recommended Boom Island. The place is HUGE and she made a small European meat plate for me with cured dead animal and cheese and olives. Delish! I tried the Bell Rock IPA, really good! Nice and hoppy! The second beer was just okay, but the place was a cool tap room!
google avatar

Ellie B.

Yelp
I recently went to Boom Island for the first time and enjoyed it! As someone who is typically not a beer person, I got the strawberry milkshake sour and would definitely recommend it. The interior was open and had lots of seating, and there were several dogs there either with owners or from Second Hand Hounds. I also tried the pizza and wasn't the biggest fan of it, but would be excited to go back in the summer when food trucks are there. They have a decent number of parking spots as well. Overall, a fun, casual place to meet friends and have a drink!
google avatar

Rick L.

Yelp
Midnight Mash Dark IPA. Smooth, slightly heavy, flavorful. I am an IPA and hazy IPA drinker so this was a change for my tastes. Took me a half pint to come around, but I'd definitely recommend it!
google avatar

Yelp
So glad that Boom has moved to Minnetonka. Loved their beer but only made it infrequently to their downtown location. Their new taproom is beautiful. Wide open space with lots of tables and high tops, and bar seating. They used a lot of reclaimed wood in the design and it really works. There is a patio off the main room as well. There is also a separate room for groups or meetings. They are known for their Belgian style brews. Very good and happy that they brought back the Silvius pale ale. They recently added several IPAs which I think are going to stay in their normal rotation of beers. Good to see! Boom is dog friendly, on the patio and inside. You can bring your own food or order from Station Pizzeria in Minnetonka which delivers free of charge. They also have a variety of snacks - Dot's pretzels (addictive!), popcorn, etc. Most weekends there is a food truck there but check the schedule on their website which is well maintained.

Yelp
My husband & I used to love coming to Boom Island with our very anxious dog, Brando. One of the employees always took the time to say hi to Brando & showed such good patience with him. Our dog learned to trust her & every time we came back he slowly started to remember her & felt more comfortable, which is our goal in bringing him to breweries. We tried to come today for Brando's birthday & learned it is no longer dog-friendly inside, so we turned back around & headed over to Unmapped. We are really bummed as Boom Island was such a cozy place to be during the winter & a great place to socialize our dog & we enjoyed their beer. Going forward, we will be giving our business to other places that are dog-friendly inside, unfortunately.

Steven D.

Yelp
Love the proximity of the new location - bike distance! Beer is great as ever. Opening day was mobbed. I would have liked to see a little more character, but it's an industrial park.... Again, beer is amazing, Belgian style is my jam. Their Triple and Quad are very true to form and the Russian Imperial Stout is a beast and a tad on the bitter side. Their Bell Rock IPA is a malt-forward beauty as sometimes you don't want hop madness. Super engaged owners with deep knowledge of their craft.
google avatar

Kelsie H.

Yelp
Scheduled curbside pick up while the taproom was closed for Covid. It was super easy to order online and pick up. We ordered beer & Station Pizzeria pizza kit. Love the partnership. Everything was fantastic! Beers: Wickie Hefeweizen Silvius Hoodoo doubbel

Yelp
Great beer and location. Was a regular when they were in Minneapolis. This place is very nice.

Yelp
Found out about this place from their next door neighbor, Secondhand Hounds. While I felt like I was cheating on Unmapped Brewing as we drove past it on our way to Boom Island, I am eager to support a second brewery in Minnetonka. Wow, the place is really nice inside. They really did it right. The beautiful finished bar with rough been siding, the current beer boards, the rear party room, ample seating, the barrel area, etc. And food. We got the hummus and pita chips. Hummus is also local, from Holy Land in Minneapolis. Yay to that. They need that due to any local restaurants nearby. The beer. Wow. First of all, the ABV is super high. The Heaven Hill and Brimstone are both a whopping 9.5, the Buffalo Trace Omen 10.2. I tried both the Heaven and Buffalo, a tie for incredible taste, so I picked the Heaven and will get the Buffalo next. What I really wanted was an IPA, which they did not have. Hopefully when they get more established there they will have one. Based on how great the two I tried are, I am excited to try whatever they make. We sat at the bar. Great service. The only ding is we could see the menu on the left side of the bar. I noticed their sign by the bike path on Shady Oak. That makes it more accessible, IMO, and a great stop year-round for those like me who do ride even in subzero. Enthusiastic five stars. Will be back.

Yelp
I drink a little of beer all over the country. This place was among my favorite places just for its interesting and well made beers. I'll be back!

Yelp
I like this place! This was my first time checking out Boom Island over the weekend. We walked in on a Saturday night, and the atmosphere was fun, lively and cozy all in one. I saw a couple dogs inside, which made me happy to see (can we get all breweries to be dog-friendly inside the taproom?!). Now, on to the beer. My hubby and I split a flight. I must say, the blood orange beer I had was my favorite. It was light, with a subtle hint of orange -- nothing too overpowering. There was a food truck outside, too, which is always good to see. I really liked this place and plan on coming back some weekend soon!

Glenn S.

Yelp
I was not impressed with the quality of the beers at Boom Island. In fact, after visiting a number of Twin City area craft breweries, I would rank boom island beer quality at the bottom. I did try a flight, so I tasted a number of beers. None that I would recommend. Location is nothing special. We were actually checking out the brewery for a possible family event. the room they have for gathering is quite small and the outside area is just in the parking lot. A number of better choices for craft beer in the Twin Cities area.
google avatar

Steph V.

Yelp
This is my favorite brewery locally. The beers are great. Service is great. Family friendly. Patio included. Nice atmosphere. No complaints.

Jennie H.

Yelp
We went to Boom Island last month on a chilly windy night. We always bring our dog to breweries and Boom Island was one of our faves because of the cozy atmosphere and good beers. We were disappointed to learn that they no longer allow dogs inside because they are serving pizza. We saw the delivery guy come with the pizzas and they are just frozen pizzas they heat up. We were meeting friends and suffered through one beer out on the empty patio freezing our butts off and then went to Unmapped. What a bummer that they traded pooches for frozen pizza - and they always have good food trucks! Guess we won't be back until summer.
google avatar

Kristyn M.

Yelp
Visiting the local area got us to this hidden treat. We were brought here by friends who thrive on the best locally made brews. We loved this place instantly. A beautiful dog greets you as you come in. She immediately gently approached us and let us love on her. Taking furiously wagging and taking no survivors. If she has you, she's with you till you have your fill. I think her name was Wiggy. The options of brews and non alcoholic beverages were great. The beer was cold as the brew was made right there in house. In warmer weather the garage door opens up to a great patio type atmosphere. Small but busy. Would be here often If we weren't just passing through.
google avatar

Michelle A.

Yelp
My GPS brought me to what I thought was entrance, only to get last spot in tiny parking lot in back. I brought my dog along and went inside. The place was dark and cluttered. I ordered a Brimstone Triple and liked it but it got warm and undrinkable halfway. The Hoodoo Dubble was also good. Their alchoholic ginger ale was almost tasteless. The place absolutely loves dogs which I complimented worker on. This place is one and done for me.
google avatar

Sue S.

Yelp
Boom Island was a bit of a hidden gem tucked away on a corner. If you walk around back and the weather is nice, the patio will be open and the big garage doors will be wide open welcoming you in. It actually kind of reminded me of places in Hawaii where the patio is always open and the vibe is always relaxed. A little oasis. It's not a big place, so the brewing equipment and bags of malt and such are kind of just sitting out in the open. But that's kind of cool and would be really cool if you happened to be there when they were doing some brewing. Who knew? There is also (pro tip) a little lot in the back for parking. So beer-wise, a regular recommended the saison, which is what I got and was the consensus winner at the table according to my friends. Flavorful and really tasty, it was a very enjoyable beer. We only stayed for one beer but really liked it and will likely e back if we're in that part of town. People were friendly but not pushy.

Yelp
Tried five beers. Just a disclaimer, I'm new to drinking beer. Here's my ranking 1. Kriek - Cherry Sour 2. Hard Ginger Ale 3. Quad Hopped Quad The other two I didn't like. Django and Ming. Thought they were too bitter.
google avatar

Lynn L.

Yelp
Took some time today to check put the new location in Minnetonka. It's great! They did a really nice job on the build. I've always liked Boom Island's beers, and now there's a new spot in which to enjoy them. Very open, with a variety of seating options. Big doors open onto a patio. They are dog-friendly inside and out.
google avatar

Jessica L.

Yelp
What a wonderful brewery! I came here because it was part of my "Sidewalk Dog brewery Passport". So of course I bring my dog with me because they are dog friendly. They have adequate parking and the brewery itself is really beautiful. The staff was very friendly and the beer was awesome!! I definitely would go back
google avatar

Yelp
Great dog friendly brewery. Good beers and plenty of space. They have snacks but also have food trucks at times. Music some nights.
google avatar

David L.

Yelp
Found via yelp and recommendations from locals. Great little spot, if a little hard to find. If you're coming down 2nd, turn past the zombie place and it will be off a little driveway on your left. Greeted immediately by the staff and got a flight of the standards. Personally preferred the Tripel and the Dubbel but all were pretty good. Also received a taster of a seasonal IPA that was quite good. Cornhole, dogs, friendly people both staff & customer, a fish fry setting up outside and the Minnesota rains...doesn't get much more fun. I hear a lot of small breweries are starting to pop-up in the area, but this place deserves a stop on your trip.
google avatar

Hannah G.

Yelp
First time here this past weekend, and we LOVED it! Boom Island has a large selection of their own tables, plenty of seating, and is dog friendly indoors too! There's also foosball, a bags game, and a healthy stack of board games to play. The bartenders were a ton of fun too. We'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Zoe D.

Yelp
Unique little brewery with all Belgian Style beers on tap. I'm not usually a huge fan of Belgian or wheat beers, yet even I found a few I liked here! They have flight options of 4, 6, 8, or 10, and my friend and I split the 6. Since it was Sunday we also got to sample their holiday Yule beer for free, which was definitely an interesting one. Hint - let it warm up for a few minutes to bring out the sweet flavors and take the edge off the biting sourness! Their Black IPA, Noire, was really lovely, though far from black in color. It was probably my favorite of the bunch. Although their Dubbel was also great. We were the only people in here on a Sunday afternoon, so the bartender talked is through the different beers we'd ordered in our flight as well as the history and names behind each. Super interesting! I love getting to learn new things. The place is a little hard to find. If I hadn't read someone else's Yelp review warning of this and that you can't get to it from Washington, we probably would have driven right by...and probably a few times. There's street parking on 21st, and you can see the entrance from there. I also wasn't sold on the decor. It just seemed a little cluttered, but maybe it just didn't fit the image of what I'd pictured the inside to look like from the outside. There's not a ton of seating at the bar, but that was fine for a quiet Sunday!

Yelp
As dog owners, we are always looking for breweries in the area that are dog friendly. We were so excited to learn Boom was since they had been a brewery on our to-visit-list for awhile. A lot of the reviews said it was a tiny tap room, but the dogs have been to tiny ones before so we didn't see it as a problem. Once we got there, the tap room was packed (always a good sign!), and the dogs were welcome with warm hellos. We could only find a high top in the middle of the room, but we thought it would be ok since everyone was so welcoming! As we were reading the tap list, some dogs came into the tap room with their owner and were immediately let off the leash. Unfortunately, this was a big turn off as dogs owners, so we left. We understand that you want your dogs to have a good night and to enjoy the ambiance as much as you, however, the tap room that night was so packed you could barely walk by anyone. I could understand if there were only a few people in the tap room- let the pups roam! Otherwise, from one dog owner to others, please be courteous and keep your fantastic pups on a leash.

Yelp
This is a great spot! They have a delicious variety of beers AND you can bring your own food in. We went with two other couples and had a Potluck. We saw many people ordering pizza from a nearby restaurant too. Some nights they have food trucks and live music. They had a brass band while we were there - which was very good. Dog and kid-friendly. Great family, date or friend spot.

Yelp
This is truly a family oriented brewery, and is my favorite in the cities due to the service and experience I've had here. The owner/head brewer consistently comes and talks to his guests. The same bartender seems to be there, and is always friendly and quick. I've received free drinks here for various reasons, which makes me feel like they care about their customers instead of a quick buck. Oh, and the beers are actually top notch too. You have to like Belgians, but it's one of those breweries where everything is good! Not like some where just the 3 flagships are good and the rest are crazy experiments that don't work out.

Yelp
Beer 5 Stars Taproom 3 Stars Service 4 Stars I think that averages 4 overall...anyways, the beer is great. I didn't realize they specialize in Belgium style beer or that the majority of their business was through distribution. The Witness Wit Bier is a really easy drinker that tastes delicious. My second drink was a raspberry sour, can't remember the name but probably one of the best sours I've ever had. This was my first visit to the tap room, kind of confusing entrance. It's no where near Boom Island and kind of hidden in an alley. It definitely feels like a locals joint...handful of tables, really small bar and a bunch of equipment for brewing beer! The large garage door makes it feel spacious but I would imagine it's not an ideal spot in the winter. Either way the staff was great. The owner heard my friend and I talking about traveling and stopped at our table to shoot the shit for a little while, kind of cool really. They had some leftover meat and cheese tray from some private event and walked around to ask if anyone wanted some. We decided to partake and it was a nice little treat. Not sure if they do food trucks during busy months but there were none there on a sunny October Thursday afternoon. I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for Boom Island on my next liquor store visit.

Yelp
My first time here. It's a cool small space. It's super chill with a few communal/picnic tables and some 2-4 seaters (heck, even some high tops). The bartenders are super nice. It definitely different than the other craft breweries I've been to around the city (really because it's Belgian style beer). They take pride in their beer and it's delicious. I tried the following: Mango (something or other) - not fruity at all, just the barest of hints of mango and more hoppy than you'd expect Witness Witbier - delicious and light, but still full bodied and smooth Brimstone Trippel - It's super smooth, rich, but not heavy. This, honestly, was my favorite It has the feel of your neighborhood bar. You can also bring dinner and enjoy it there. TLDR: go drink some of their beer!

Yelp
Great Belgium beers! Friendly staff. They are a little off the beaten path, but worth the bike ride. They host music acts there from time to time... local owner (no corporate backing) so support your local business owners.

Yelp
Loved going here when they were in North Minneapolis. Which was a drive from my home in Burnsville. Now they are in Minnetonka in a very nice location. Great variety of beers! Oftentimes with a food truck. Staff is awesome and plenty of parking. Cute patio.

Yelp
One of my favorite breweries ever! Not only are Belgian style beers in my top 3 most loved styles, they are only 2 blocks down the street from my work, an easy walk for an after work treat. They have been constantly improving since they've opened the new taproom, which I think was back in January 2014. Our first stop in was on Valentine's to sample a taproom special, a raspberry chocolate something that was to die for. The bartender (wish I could remember his name) passed out pretzel bites for everyone at the bar to snack on while we were there. Some people walked down the street to Donny Dirk's to grab a bite from their food truck and bring it back. Most recently I met hubby and a few friends after work. They now have tables set up outside, a couple round ones that sit 2-4 and a couple longer ones that would probably sit 10. One of their taproom exclusives was a framboise (gasp!) which I immediately ordered and brought outside after dropping off my growler. It was amazingly good, if your partial to that style. An extra bonus that they offered it in growlers - a lot of breweries do not offer their special pours for takeaway, so I was thrilled. They kept it in the fridge for me until I was ready to leave. The staff came out to check on us and clear away empty glasses. They had a food truck set-up in their parking lot this time. We all ordered from it (Kabomlette), very convenient! They were also playing the FIFA soccer games on their projector inside, if you're into that sort of thing ;) They offer a variety of sizes of flights. I want to say 4, 6, and 8? Honestly this place does not have a bad beer. A shame that the dubel and tripel are not available for growlers - the tripel (Brimstone) is my favorite. I probably won't ever be here on a Saturday which is fine, I'll stick with the tame weekday evening crowd :)

Yelp
Boom Island is total hidden gem! The beer is delicious and the staff is very, very friendly. They specialize in Belgium style beer and they have quite the variety to choose from. Make sure to get a beer flight; they offer two different sizes. Share it with a friend, snap some Instagram pics. You know how that works.

Yelp
For the Southwest suburbs, this is my favorite brewery so far. The location is fantastic, vibe is great, service is great, and the beer was terrific. Absolutely no complaints, only praises. Great location for people to get together for a beer after work.

Yelp
Getting better all the time. Ambient Noise level down. Been having some great bands. Not the regular jazz of days past - yet. but ska, funk, etc and they've been great. Liking the band playing now in the corner. Some new beers. love that Omen quad. Food trucks. A couple TVs lots of dogs. Just need a dog poo garbage can outside somewhere or your walking way down to 2nd hand hounds rescue to "drop one off". Even saw Kevin again recently.
