READ THIS BEFORE ORDERING!
I ordered a meal of ackee and saltfish in October 2023. I was visiting Montreal and wanted some yaad food.
Important note: the staff in the shop were Indian. Not Caribbean Indian, but Indians from India.
The service was abysmal. I entered the shop, nobody there. I waited 5 minutes before I had to shout to the kitchen to get service. That was the first red flag I ignored but when is service ever sharp in a yaad food shop?
The fridge shelf had caved in and there were broken drinks everywhere, the shelf had jammed itself inwards so I couldn't reach in and grab a drink. Red flag 2.
When the guy serving came to the front, I asked if they served fried fish and bammy and he replied, "what is bammy?"
Red flag 3 and tied to my important note as any Jamaican would not have to ask.
The total came to $30 and when I went to pay, the option to tip came up and I declined. The look on the mans face... why would I leave a tip before the food even reach mi mouth? Red flag 4
He then took 10 minutes to bag up the food, moving slow like seh MoBay sun ah lick him. Red flag 5
The food itself was inedible and truth be told from all the red flags I ignored, I deserved it. The plantain was not cooked, the saltfish was bland (?????) and I daren't even try the ackee becah mi nuh waan drop dead and shame up meself even more.
Do not be like me. Do not waste your money and time on the WORST yaad food I have ever come across. How can you not cook plantain?????? 2 months later and still mi vex kmt.
