I would definitely say this is a place that you can choose whether or not you want to have lunch or dinner here. I have the stuffed lobster and it was amazing. I would say that it is definitely made for two people though. I actually end up getting sick for eating the whole thing because it was so delicious! But it was way too much food for me. I feel like I could have shared that with somebody and we both would have been full. But, I will have to say there is a flaw with Dad, I got so frustrated trying to open up the claws because it is not cooked the same. It's like baked and Sid's. All the claw is so extremely hard to break open. My hands are hurting so bad trying to open it up. But once I finally got it open it was amazing and had a lot of meat in it. I can't honestly say that I would order it again due to the claws. I think they should come up with a different method for making sure that the claws are open or at least crab cracked or something for their customers because when you bake a hard shell it becomes harder.

To begin: I'm a huge foodie. Our experience was not worth the money at all! The steamed 2.5 lb lobster was $80 and I've have MUCH better lobster for less than 1/2 the price. The seafood tower was $78 and it was mediocre at best; the oysters were dirty and their taste was average as was the taste of the smoked scallops and smoked mussels. The restaurant's drinks were also sub-par; besides the Allagash White draft, but at least we knew what we were getting with that. The waitress was nice at least...

Google
Every dish we ordered was exceptional. The oysters were fresh, briny, and perfectly chilled. The clam chowder was rich, creamy, and deeply flavorful. The baked stuffed haddock was cooked to perfection — flaky, moist, and seasoned beautifully. Even the sides were delicious. What really made the experience special, though, was the service. Our server was knowledgeable, attentive without being overbearing, and offered spot-on wine pairings that elevated the meal even more. And the views jsut couldn't get better! We’ll absolutely be back!

We went for happy hour 3pm-5pm. $2 oysters. $9 bacon wrapped scallops. $9 lobster rangoons. Food was good. Service was awesome. Decent happy hour.

Cruise ship stopped in Main, so we wanted to get Lobster Rolls. The Boones Special was just what we needed. Our Lobster Rolls were perfect. The Lobster was perfectly cooked( they new what they were doing in the kitchen) Lobster delicate tossed in a light aioli on a split buttered Brioce Bun. I RECOMMEND THIS TO ANYONE STOPPING BYE. Thanks Ashley for stopping me on the street.

Had dinner with a large group of coworkers. Enjoyed seafood tower, oysters, clams and mussels. Colleague had a very cool Bloody Mary w an oyster and lobster claw garnish!

Google
Our favorite place in old port. We come here at least twice when on vacation, never disappointed. Staff is wonderful, atmosphere is great, tables not crowded together. They have an upper and lower deck which offers a nice breeze over the water on those hot summer days. Food is exceptional, from the burgers to the lobster feasts.

Boone’s Fish House & Oyster Room is a must-visit in Portland! The seafood is incredibly fresh—don’t miss the baked stuffed lobster and oysters. The waterfront views are stunning, especially from the outdoor decks. But the real star is Lizzie, the bartender! She’s friendly, attentive, and knows her drinks inside and out. Her recommendations made our night even better. Great food, great atmosphere, and top-notch service—can’t wait to go back!

Yelp
I recently hosted a corporate happy hour for my company at Boone's. The food display and passed appetizers were well liked by all and our group enjoyed the private upstairs location that came equipped with our own set of restrooms. Communicaitons with coordinating our event were professional and prompt. For anyone interested in hosting a private event upstairs keep in mind there isn't an elevator available to accommodate those needing mobility assistance. Next time we host an event at Boone's I'd ask for two separate bar stations, at our event we only had one bar and the line to order a drink wrapped around the room making for long wait time. Otherwise, our event went off without a hitch!

Kara E.

Yelp
We went to Boone's for a few drinks and our bartender, Lizzie was fabulous! She was very welcoming and kind. We highly recommend Boone's and Lizzie!

Yelp
Food was great, service overall was good but the air conditioning was out so very uncomfortable in restaurant. Manager did not offer any compensation for the inconvenience he just kept apologizing

Yelp
First night in Portland and this was one of the three places our hotel recommended. As it was already late, we decided on Boone's as everything else was already closing. We got the clam steamers to start. Now I have eaten a ton of clams before and these were probably the most colossal size clams I have ever seen in my life. With that said- they were the most tender clams I have ever eaten and I am not about sitting there and chewing on clams like they're rubber bands- these guys melted away- literally. My BF got the cup of chowder- he said it was good, nothing to write home about. I got the Cobb salad with grilled chicken. I know Cobb salad at a seafood place- listen we just got off a plane and I was tired and needed something that was fresh and easy. Honestly I loved the salad- down to the pickled red onion and Johnny cakes... however my BF was like $32 for a freaking Cobb salad??!!! Little did I know that adding a few pieces of grilled chicken would cost and extra $12- I could've ran over to Whole Foods and grabbed two rotisseries to throw onto the salad. With that said- I would've give the salad 5 stars but based on quantity and price and the lack luster service we got- I have to give it 3 stars. The atmosphere was okay- we sat upstairs outside and listened to the live music from below.

Yelp
We stopped in for some oysters. We experienced the worst Bartender lady there. For the first time in my life I would get a check before getting the food! (I was only given water) she said I have to cash out first.... For what, water? We placed the order for steamed clams, raw oysters and fried oysters. I hadn't seen the food but I'm supposed to pay first? She dropped off a small bowl in front of me and said, here's your ONE clam.... (You can't make this stuff up) there was a baby raw clam in a bowl. Then the general manager, Brad stepped in to apologize and even bought my daughter a cocktail. He explained that she was overwhelmed. I understand busy and stressful times but it was her attitude. She later walked over and said "I apologize you feel that way!" And I told her that's not an apology!! Then said "I apologize you couldn't accept my apology". Am I on candid camera? Only when Brad walked over did she said she was sorry without pointing her finger at me. When the check came, there was a 20% auto-tip but she's just not getting that after insulting me multiple times. Brad said it was fine and I obviously didn't have to pay, yet my account was hit on the full amount after I left the restaurant! Brad, please adjust to make it right!

Yelp
Great location! Clam chowder was good. Lobster was fine and the melted butter dish was devine. The tower was just okay.

Yelp
Great Happy Hour deal! Sat outside on the 2nd floor. Never been upstairs before but a nice sunny atmosphere and great view! Cant beat the bacon wrapped scallops! We had a few apps and drinks and our server was very friendly and on top of things.

Yelp
Able to seat a party of 10 on a weekend evening with no wait? How lucky?? WRONG. Waiting outside the restroom only to have your server come out and apologize for dropping a stinker set the tone for night. Want to place a drink order? Too bad. No one will ask you. Finally place an order? Don't rush, you'll be able to watch the bartender promptly make it... then it will sit for 10 minutes before your server remembers. I almost got up to get it... twice.... because this happened twice. "Hey, just to double check, that was 3 lobster rolls?" "Yes" WRONG. Brought our 4 lobster rolls... and forgot a side. Ordered the missing side. WRONG AGAIN! Side never came. It was, however, on the bill. Along with 20% automatic gratuity. No wonder the service was garbage! The food was actually ok bordering on decent, maybe even good. But the service? The service was so poor it prompted my logging into yelp to write this. Maybe they overseat but that's not really my problem. The food took over one and a half hours to come out... well... except for the missing items that were on the bill! At least they comped something for the garbage service? ... WRONG. I don't care if you "invented the bake stuffed lobster" Garbage service Tourist trap Go somewhere else. Icing on the cake? The server you heard dropping a stinker put her thumb in your soup. What are we even doing here, people?
google avatar

Jonathan T.

Yelp
The service was fair as well as the food. I hadn't been there in awhile, but the menu was much smaller and the atmosphere less "upscale" as I once remember. Still, the food was good as well as the new atmosphere. Appreciate them being there.

Yelp
Boone's is located on one of the wharfs waterside in Portland with inside and outside options . They have fresh lobster in the holding tanks that you can pick out. Lobster roll sandwich and the 2 lb baked lobster were excellent! Good local selection. Would suggest reservations.

Yelp
I should have given this place a three star reveiw.i dic not realize how expensive it was

Yelp
We stopped there for dinner 7/29/25. I was looking for a place with GF and DF lobster rolls, and they fit the bill. We sat outside because the weather was nice. My husband had the non-GF lobster roll. It comes with chips and is really good. I had mine on a GF bun. They gave us plenty of lobster chunks in the sandwich. It was delicious. The chips were fine. I just had a Diet Coke, and my husband had beer. The waitress was really nice. A band was playing nearby. I love sitting in outdoor places near the ocean. We saw and heard many seagulls, too. It's a nice area. We're just visiting. I wish we could check out all the places. It seems like a great area full of wonderful food and nice people, and an outstanding city for food allergies. NOTE: the sandwiches were about $40 apiece, so it's not something I'd eat every day. The waitress was very good about telling us the market price for each type of lobster (different sizes), since they charge by the pound. I'm not a lobster, nor fish, expert, but it tasted very fresh to me. I would only say, if you can find a cheaper lobster roll that is just as good, stick with it.

Stephanie S.

Yelp
The best stuffed lobster and peel and eat shrimp. I never have luck when I order stuffed lobster at other restaurants. This place gets it right and worth every penny. We come back every summer to enjoy the stuffed lobster!

Steven K.

Yelp
I enjoyed a great Maine Lobster dinner at Boone's Fish House and Oyster Room. I walked in just before a large group arrived. I thought I would get lost amid the group. My server, Hannah C., was excellent. She asked me if I wanted to move to another table or the bar. I like my seat and stayed. Hannah was a great server and very kind. People make the difference. The lobster was very good and I enjoyed my dinner.
google avatar

Dianne A.

Yelp
We were seated right away upon coming in the door. The hostess was friendly and courteous in giving us a table out of the way being we had a baby in our group. Jason G was our server and probably one of the best I've had. He greeted us right away and took our drink order. The Tito's Bloody Mary with the lobster claw was perfect and reasonably priced at $19. We started with the calamari, which was a perfect size for 4 people and excellent!!! I had the fish taco, which was loaded with fish and substituted the fries for the chips for an extra $2. This all could have easily fed 2 people. Great view, friendly and prompt service!!! Boone's never disappoints!!
google avatar

Robert B.

Yelp
The service was really good. The food was well-representative of the area. We enjoyed the ambiance and the bill was what we expected.
google avatar

Thomas T.

Yelp
Service was awful and slow. Waited 15 mins before i saw my waitress and she was terrible. First i had to flag someone down to order then again i had to ask for my drink 10 mins later. I ordered an appetizer that came AFTER my dinner entree! The food was mediocre. Scallops were ok at best and overpriced. Lobster was good butter sauce was alright. Service was slow and wasnt even busy.

Steve C.

Yelp
Nice location and staff, but awful experience. Food never arrived, after an hour server acknowledged the order hadn't been put in and didn't seem to care much. Really bad "oops" reaction. Manager was apologetic but it didn't matter much since we were there to primarily eat.

Yelp
Last night of vacation in Maine, and this was a locally-recommended stop. We had been to the Porthole, located right next door, on the first night in Maine. Our dinner was on a Saturday night and the Porthole next door to Boone's was the most happening spot! Complete with security and live DJ. We sat outside, so it was right next to the loud music, but that did not take away from the beautiful scenery and dockside experience. Despite the restaurant being busy, we had no wait. We were quickly seated on the patio and our server, Lindsey, was super attentive and took great care of us! Drinks came out quickly as well as appetizers. I had fresh oysters and cocktail shrimp which easily could have been my meal. Last night there, my boy and I opted for the 1 1/2 lb. steamed lobster. If I was going to have a death-row meal, this and a porterhouse would be it! We also had a beautiful lobster Mac & Cheese which was cooked perfectly and packed full of amazing lobster! Part of my dad duties is helping others at the table when they feel guilt in not being able to finish their food. Especially when it is epic food and you can't let it go to waste. Probably a generational thing. But their fish & chips is stunning! Battered and cooked perfectly, I have yet to experience such dish here inland. They have fish & chips perfected. If I knew my end was near and I was on my last day, I would want to just eat here. Including the rest of the menu I did not get to try! If you are in Portland, make this a stop. You won't be disappointed! And ask for Lindsey P!

Yelp
Seafood spot right on the water of Old-Town Portland Seafood is mediocre and prices are high, but the view, drinks, and service are all great I tried the fried calamari appetizer and a lobster roll. I wasn't impressed with any of it, but the chips that came with the lobster roll were very good
google avatar

Caleb M.

Yelp
I held a book launch event in their beautiful upstairs event space that has a fireplace, bar, and views of the harbor. The food was outstanding and the team did a great job with the decor. Having the bar right there was also ideal. Everyone commented on what a great event it was and I think some of the guests will be looking to book their own events there as well. Thanks to Ashley and her team!
google avatar

Yelp
It's interesting how this place has such a low amount of stars. Maybe we came in on a good night but the service was efficient and the waitress was friendly. The food was fresh and we enjoyed all of the dishes we had. My favorite were the mussels and the raw oysters. We'd come back.
google avatar

Gail T.

Yelp
I love going out to restaurants for happy hour as I get out of work at 3 and early drinks and meals are perfect. Boones has $1 oysters and $6 prosecco from 3 to 5. Went on a Tuesday at 4pm and the oysters were perfect as was the prosecco. Service was great and our server attentive and helpful. I love the wood floors and the subtle lighting. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Nostalgia brought my folks and I to Boone's Fish House in Portland. In the 50's my Mother would enjoy chowder, popovers and tamale/cottage cheese. She did order the chowder and loved it but the popover was a bit over cooked and larger than she remembered. The swordfish was a huge hit with my Father and he is now a member of the "clean plate club" my fish tacos were melt in your mouth style with a hint of heat and a generous piece of Haddock! The one drawback is parking $26 for a 2 hour minimum unlike DiMillos which validates your parking ticket at time of departure. Happy I could relive my Mom's childhood memories!

Yelp
Got seated outside on upper deck - great views. Slow service. But good food - gosh sandwich was great.
google avatar

Bill R.

Yelp
Service was prompt and polite. The seats outside on the deck were perfect for a late April day like today. But 1.5 stars for the small claw only lobster roll. I gave it the extra half star for the tasty chips. I called around trying to find a lobster roll with tail, knuckle and claw meat. Was told by whomever answered the phone this was the place. It wasn't. Grrrrr
google avatar

Danielle V.

Yelp
Very nice location right on the water. Summer is the best with outside seating, outside bar and a deck upstairs looking out on to the water. They have a small bar but a huge dining room with lots of seating. Mostly seafood opinions with oysters and a few other entrees. Food is okay but not my favorite. I think it's over priced for what you get. Recently I have had some better meals. For the fried haddock sandwich and it was good. Service is typically good, and a great vibe inside.

Mark B.

Yelp
Elizabeth is amazing. She was making great old fashions and then the food came. she put gloves on and went to work on the lobster I ordered to make it easier for me. can't recommend this place enough.

Fred F.

Yelp
Always a pleasure visiting Boones. Lizzie and staff take great care of their patrons.

Robert M.

Yelp
The food, ambience, music, and service were excellent. The Chef, Sous Chef & Expo were amazing. Popovers were delicious(must have). My wife and I went there several times during our vacation and Lizzie, Priscilla, Jason, Jake were great!!

Phil S.

Yelp
Lizzie was the greatest. Made a tasty old fashion that put me in the mood. She pulled out my three pounder and I blessed it before it got devoured. It was a pleasurable experience i would do again when in Portland.
google avatar

Sophie S.

Yelp
Stuffed popovers are now my favorite brunch item to eat - so delicious and a unique dish!
google avatar

Barbara S.

Yelp
Great to be on the waterfront as a visitor in Portland, Maine. 4 people...$300 no alcohol...the stuffed haddock was extremely tasty. most other things were mediocre. 2 lb lobster, Ceasar salad with shrimp, lobster roll with butter, corn on the cob, Brussels sprouts and one oil cake for dessert. Lovely waitress, Georgia. She was helpful, kind, and very attentive. Other local restaurants were better.
google avatar

Brien M.

Yelp
We've eaten here for decades through various owners and closings and reopenings. Boone's never disappoints despite the changes. On this visit we appreciated the availability of a local non-alcoholic beer. We also noticed that prices are high (but quality matches) yet you can get a great deal with a lunch special - generous serving and delicious at a great price. Notice the photo of a salmon BLT that was a daily special.
google avatar

Reggie M.

Yelp
My last review of the year. Boone's fish house and the oyster room have two spacious decks overlooking the Portland harbor in Maine. They boast that they have the original baked stuffed Maine lobster. As we checked in, the bustling restaurant welcomed us with a friendly reminder: making a reservation ensures a hassle-free holiday. The two decks are full that night and we were seated in the main dining room. We started our dinner with a bottle of Rosé and I can't leave Maine without having a steamed whole lobster. It was served with coleslaw and melted butter. The evening unfolded beautifully. The location was stunning, the service swift and efficient, and the staff warmly welcoming. Boone's Fish House & Oyster Room is a must-try!

Emilie F.

Yelp
Lizzie was the coolest bartender! So warm and welcoming and made the whole experience the absolute best! Will definitely be returning to Boones!
google avatar

Tamica J.

Yelp
We flew in from Michigan just to eat here! This place is PHENOMENAL! It sits on the water and has the FRESHEST tasting seafood I've had since moving from my Maryland hometown! Everything was wonderful! The Clam Chowder tasted like it was just made. The Lobster Roll was $39 and WORTH EVERY PENNY! It had HUGE chunks of lobster on a buttery toasted roll with very light sauce! The Stuffed Lobster was DELICIOUS! We split this between the two of us and was stuffed! The hostess was friendly and the waitress delightful! The entire experience was great! You do have to pay for parking. We paid for two hours and it was $26. We used about 1 1/2 hours to shop, then walked across the street to a souvenir shop to use up the rest of the time. Please if you're in the area, COME HERE! You will not be disappointed!
google avatar

Amy L.

Yelp
Came and around 4:20 on a Tuesday and were seated on patio. Waited over 20 min for a server to greet us without success and finally left.
google avatar

Colleen F.

Yelp
We sat outside on their outdoor patio and it's such a gorgeous view. Overlooking the water as you dine is something that just makes a meal. We were seated pretty quickly and there during happy hour. We got the happy hour shrimp cocktail. Fresh cocktail sauce and jumbo shrimp! They were delicious. For our entrees, I had the fish tacos with house chips. The fish tacos were very flavorful and chips were super crisp. I would definitely come back

Armen Y.

Yelp
I ordered Nor Easter lobster roll which is fresh lobster warmed in butter unlike traditional cold ones. OMG it was amazing. This was the best lobster roll that I have tried on the last 3 days in Portland. It was not crowded, so I got seated immediately. No reservations required.
google avatar

Susan I.

Yelp
The food was delicious! Stuffed lobster! Came with warm butter with a candle under pot to keep it warm'. Service was ok . Loud but nice lighting! Warm and kind of comfortable!

Yelp
Super packed for 7PM dinner on a Friday night that we couldn't get outside seating, but luckily, still didn't have to wait for a table to open up. I loved the food here! Servers are nice, but not super attentive since it's crazy busy. Let's start with the best! Seafood Newburg: this is a MUST order! I'm not the biggest fan of stuffed or steamed lobster since I like a little bit more flavor (I knoww, there's the butter on the side, but still! But the steamed lobster is very good too!) so I ordered this and it definitely wowed me a lot. It's a buttery cream sauce with seafood and popover. There's lobster, haddock, and juicy scallops. And the popover sits in that delicious sauce to soak up all the flavors. Sooo fattening but sooo good. I wished I had the stomach to devour the rest of the popover, but alas, I was too full from the previous lobster stops and trying everyone else's dishes :/ Ribeye: gorgeous medium rare ribeye! Juicy and delicious, the chimichurri sauce on top was excellent. Only thing I didn't enjoy was the risotto which just tasted weird Swordfish: while the fish is super moist and juicy, it was a bit too bland for me personally, but the rest of my party loved it! Oysters: very good selection, some better than the others. We tried all 6 kinds, but the really big one was the sandiest yet meatiest Scallop ceviche: refreshing, a little tart, but probably wouldn't get again Clam chowder: sadly the appetizers weren't the best, particularly this clam chowder that was more potato than clam, and not really that creamy. Overall though, loved the entrees and the oysters, and 100% recommend that lobster/lobster newburg.

Angie B.

Yelp
We choose to sit on the patio overlooking the water. It was a nice setting (candlelight and a heater). We ordered Stuffed Lobster and Lobster Mac and Cheese. Both were good although I could have had less breadcrumbs/stuffing mixed with the seafood stuffing. The waitress was very friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Overall if was a good experience and I Would eat here again.
google avatar

CJ J.

Yelp
I had the best mussels I've ever had at Boone's.They were fresh, plump & sweet. The broth was outstanding. I will be thinking about them for awhile! The lobster roll was excellent. Generous amount of big chunks of lobster & just the right amount of butter. Cold beer, good Bloody Mary. Great service, nice atmosphere, waterfront. Was only in Portland for the day but if I ever return, I will beline to Boone's. Restaurant deserves a better star rating.

Nolan A.

Yelp
Hands down best experience. Cutting wood and looking good...that describes our bartender Lizzie. She was so funny and the food was fantastic!

Jesse A.

Yelp
Been coming here for a few years now, food is always delicious (can be a little pricey) The staff is always fun, Lizzie was great on the bar, made me feel welcome and kept me entertained!

Karen L.

Yelp
We stopped in for a quick consolation beverage after attending a disappointing concert. We sat at the bar and ordered drinks and an appetizer. And, to our surprise and delight, we were thoroughly entertained by our bartender, Lizzie. From start to finish, the service was exceptional, the food delicious, and the conversation was fun and lively. Lizzie kept everyone at the bar engaged and laughing. It was the best part of our day. We recommend Boone's for anyone who wants to be treated like family, only better!
google avatar

Lim K.

Yelp
We came here for some appetizers and drinks. We shared fried calamari, scallops, and Brussels sprouts. The food was all good. My husband enjoyed his martinis but my beer, Atlantic blueberry, tasted terrible. I did not even finish the half. Good service. Nice patio seating upstairs.

Yelp
The fact that this place only has three stars is a mystery to me after dining here yesterday. Everything was amazing! Boone's may not look like a fancy restaurant, and it's not. It may not be white tablecloth, but the food, service, and quintessential Maine harbor atmosphere was truly exceptional. We had a reservation for 12:15 and got seated right away, with both an indoor and outdoor option. We opted for outside, it being beautiful and the perfect temperature (especially visiting from the humid North Carolina). Our server greeted us almost instantly, and asked for our drink orders. He and the woman shadowing him were tentative and friendly. On to the best part! We tried quite a few menu items. These included the Blueberry Potato Purée Scallops, Shrimp Cocktail, Clam Chowder, Local Steamers, The Seafood Tower, Nor'easter Lobster Roll, Classic Lobster Roll, and Baked Stuffed Lobster. I don't even know where to start with the level of deliciousness experienced. The Shrimp Cocktail were $4 a piece and the best I've ever had. Fresh, Juicy, and large with a side of cocktail sauce and lemon. The Clam Chowder was also the best I've ever had. Fresh and a generous portion; I split the cup with my friend. I tried the clams and scallops, also amazing! You'll see that many of these items were the also the best I've ever had. The scallops came with a unique yet interesting blueberry potato purée. Perfectly cooked, flavorful, and delicious. The Classic Lobster Roll, oh the lobster roll! I would pay $40 for this delicious lobster roll time and time again. The lobster was fresh, perfectly cooked, and the portion was very generous. Served with lemon and butter on a brioche bun, I will be dreaming about this lobster roll! It you're looking for a causal/cozy vibe yet absolutely delicious food, I would highly recommend Boone's and hope to visit again in the future!
