Boong’s Korean Fried Chicken - Review - Midtown East - New York - The Infatuation

"In Midtown East, Boong’s is a counter-service spot that comes from the Boong’s Cafe team, which opened back in January. A small order of fried chicken is $22 (your choice of normal or sweet and spicy), and they also sell things like dumplings and sushi rolls. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Will Hartman

This place is cute. The staff was very helpful. They wanted us the fries are good and a lot. And I ordered. And he was so right. They are huge Everything tastes so good. I didn’t get a chance to eat noodles cus I was so focused on the chicken Spicy cheese was my favorite. The soy glazed one wasn’t something I would order again however I still liked it. If I’m in the area I could see myself going back a second time

Google
The golden, crispy (regular) fries, $7 for a large serving, is the best value on the menu. But the chicken as part of the $18 lunch box was underwhelming. It’s hard to actually taste the chicken because of the thick breading and the heavy sauce. The marinated pork was decent but the rice was a bit dry, like taken from the bottom of the rice cooker. The interior has a pop art feel, thanks largely to the wall of packaged instant ramen.

Solid fast casual Korean food in the heart of Sutton Place! Came here after passing by the sign of “grand opening” a couple of times on my way to Trader Joe’s. The food was decent, and the service was fast. I think it’s good for a quick bite to eat, but the menu has pretty limited selection and finding seating can be a bit challenging. I do like that they have a wide selection of instant ramens though.

The sweet n spicy is good. I would get the sauce on the side next time. For my liking. The chicken still got a nice crunch under the sause. N not dried out I enjoyed learning how to use the machine to make my ramen. Will definitely return want to try the rest of the menu

Google
Not the best Korean fried chicken I’ve ever had but I love the concept and service is super friendly. We got an order of wings and the boneless and between the two I preferred the boneless but it could’ve been crispier. The kimchi fries were also really good. Overall, a fun concept and it hit the spot for a late night bite.

Google
Nice decent place if you are looking for a spot to have Korean fried chicken. I visited once, I will definitely visit again. The reasons why I gave 4 stars are because of no bathroom for customers and they need to do better with cleaning after people eat.

Google
Grabbed the boneless half & half to go, and even after reheating, it was delicious! I surprisingly had a few left over and ate them the next day — they still tasted great, with no trace of that unpleasant chicken smell or aftertaste. Boongs chicken is a must try!! :D

Google
My friends and I came to this place for a quick meal after work. It’s a really nice place, small and cozy. The cashiers were nice, they were friendly and helped out when we were a little confused at the ramen station. We should’ve asked about the portion sizes because we ordered our own fries and it was a mountain. Although it was a large portion, they were really good! Very hot, crispy and soft fries. :) Ps. They have free kimchi and scallions which is a really nice touch. x I definitely recommend!

Yelp
I finally got around to trying the newly opened @boongschicken Korean Fried Chicken place. From the moment I walked in, the smell of crispy fried goodness hit me, and I knew I was in for something special. The menu was straightforward but packed with options. They have ramen station where you can choose from their wide selection of ramen noodles and cook on their provided machine. For the Fried Chicken : I went with a half-and-half combo: one half glazed in soy garlic, the other in sweet and spicy. Both were crispy even under a thick, sticky glaze. The soy garlic was sweet, salty, and had just the right amount of savoriness. The spicy one had a good kick without overpowering the flavor of the chicken itself. Overall, if you're into crispy, flavorful chicken that doesn't hold back on bold sauces, this spot is definitely worth the visit. What we ordered : - Sweet & Spicy Wings - Soy Garlic Wings - Bulgogi bowl with rice - Ddeok Bok Ki (Rose flavor) - Instant Ramen - Fried Calamari - Sushi Rolls

Yelp
Wings are good, but small. The good: service was good, they offer unlimited sauces to try with the wings, so definitely get original and try them all, the wings were crispy and quick to come out. The reason for the four stars is that the wings are pretty small - the flats are about two inches long so not super filling and a little dry for my taste. I think Boong's is good but there are better Korean fried chicken spots in the city. I would come back to try the noodles because those looked popular as well.

Yelp
Tuesday 15 April 2025 Cloudy rainy 45°F I have been craving Korean Fried Chicken and it's been a long time since I have had really good KFC. As I happened to be on the upper east side of Manhattan today, I saw the new Boong's and thought I'd take a chance. As the saying goes, "Nothing ventured, nothing gained" Verdict? - - - - YES, Boong's KFC is excellently executed delicious!!! IMHO - the Best Freshest Delicious Korean Fried Chicken currently in Manhattan. In addition to the above - - - they serve chicken sandwiches, Instant Ramen (packaged - mild to spicy) , assorted sushi, assorted dumplings, and other delicious Korean items on the menu. **Small space. Mostly take-out** *Open 11AM to 11PM* **Hope they open more locations ** Thank you!

Yelp
Stopped in after work as I walked by. It is just the 2nd day so it's still a limited menu for the soft opening. Everyone was really lovely! All the customers were happy to see a new place open up with delicious chicken. I got the sweet and spicy boneless chicken - really tasty and not too spicy at all. I think some of the ramen options on the wall are a whole lot spicier. One can buy the instant ramen in the pack, or can use the cool machines to cook it at the ramen counter and eat it there. Right now there's a limited menu of chicken, dumplings, sushi, fries, and a few other items because it's just the 2nd day. I can't wait to see what else they offer down the road, but I'll definitely at least be back for more chicken.

Yelp
Ok Korean fried chicken. Notably this was for takeout. Came on time thankfully. Chicken is not very crispy and the flavors of the sauce (soy garlic, sweet and spicy and spicy soy) were all pretty mid. The coleslaw could have used a tad bit of salt. Chicken meat quality pretty decent and juicy. Nothing spectacular

Yelp
5/5 service! So far I've only been here on Saturdays 3 times but the girl who does the front greeted me with "Welcome back!" It's really sweet how attentive they are to their customers. Not to mention their Korean fried chicken is the best on the UES. Very convenient for those of us who do not want to go all the way to K Town for some good fried chicken! There's not much seating but they bring your food out and clean up for you if you do decide to dine in. I felt like a queen being waited on as I munched on my chicken. In terms of other stuff they sell, I will say I wasn't the biggest fan of the tteokbokki but their sushi is quite fresh and decent. They won't serve you tap water so if you do dine in be prepared to buy bottled water for $1.50 so you don't get thirsty while eating!

Yelp
This was very disappointing, and I had high hopes judging from its reviews. Their chicken just lacked that crackling crispness you expect from Korean Fried Chicken. It could be because we had it delivered and time is a huge factor in maintaining the crunch. But then again.... Other Korean chicken takeout places in the city seem to get it right.

Yelp
The key is to eat it asap bc each order seems to be freshly made. Also, get some rice to go along with the spicy or garlic marinated boneless chickens. It helps balance the burst of flavors.

Yelp
I've never appreciated "boongs korean fried chicken place" more than I do now, pregnancy cravings had me on a mission and thanks to these wild pregnancy cravings. This place absolutely NAILED IT!!!!! !!!!! Let me tell you, it was a full-blown flavor party. The korean fried chicken was everything i dreamed of ultra crispy with that sticky, sweet and spicy, soy garlic glaze that hits just right. I had sweet and spicy (is not spicy at all) along with soy garlic wings. It wasn't too oily and the chicken stayed juicy inside. Literal perfection. I could eat a bucket of 2 large size and not feel guilty (baby approved ) Since I can't eat sushi at this moment, only thing I can eat was California roll was so fresh and clean, with that nice balance of creamy avocado and crab. It wasn't overly fishy or soggy, which is crucial when your a hormonal sushi snob. My husband on the another hand is a big fan of sushi was always his favorite dish, and this place is where we go now for his sushi instead of those sushi restaurants! The pork rice bowl, comfort food at its finest. The pork was tender and flavorful, with just enough on seasoned pork with white rice without getting mushy with oily soaking sauce on the bottom (like another places like any korean restaurant or hmark lunch box) this place was so fresh! Every bite was warm and cozy like food hug for both me and baby. coleslaw, this one came in refreshing and crunchy with just enough tang to balance the richness of chicken. Honestly, boongs korean fried chicken place deserves to be on top NYC food market news! I went here when it was opened, have been going back currently as well. I have 4 weeks left until it is due. It's not all about food, the staffs are so sweet and very welcoming! Mario the owner (boongs boy), Candice and manager Steven and two another ladies at cashier sorry cant remember their names but they are amazing, very professional but giving you that cozy vibes with a big smiles is plus plus!!!! Love, "at boongs, we are family" I usually don't write reviews but this place and meal cured my cravings, lifted my mood, and made baby do happy wiggle. If your pregnant and on fried chicken fueled emotional rollercoaster, this combo is the comfort food ticket to happiness!!!! Highly recommend!!!!!! Thank you for opening!!!!

Yelp
Passed by a few days ago and was very excited to finally try their soft opening. 5/5 delicious fried chicken Comes with a variety of dipping sauces. The kalbi flavored sauce was our favorite, followed by the sweet/spicy and the soy garlic. Definitely want to come back to try the others. The breading is delicious and crispy. I usually don't like boneless wings bc they get dry, but the boneless wings were actually more delicious than the wings/drumsticks. The Cole slaw was really fresh and great too. 3/5 Rice cakes tteok dukki Pretty standard, w egg, rice cakes, fish cake and cabbage. Maybe they could add a bit of ramen in here? Was a bit low on actual rice cakes in the portion which was a bit disappointing On their soft opening menu they also had sushi rolls (kimbap?), fries including kimchi fries, and an instant ramen wall w an instant ramen station featuring lots of Korean noodles like champaghetti, bulgak, shin and other brands but w some harder to find flavors. The cashiers and staff were so friendly and nice. The space has a few tables and casual seating as well as cute ramyun themed tables to stand outside. Really excited to try their full menu soon! Thank you Boongs for blessing our Asian food desert with delicious KFC (Korean fried chicken). A great addition to the neighborhood.

Yelp
Went for their opening day and the fried chicken was really good! So juicy. Glad to see a Korean fried chicken place in the neighborhood so I can stop ordering delivery from Ktown. Will def be going back.

Yelp
Although located on the Upper East Side, this place makes me feel like I am eating in Koreatown. Absolutely delicious fried chicken with a side of cole slaw. Quick and friendly service. And they also have a wide variety of ramen noodles to choose from.

Yelp
Was pleasantly surprised at how tasty it was. Plus the owner genuinely seemed to love what he's doing. Hope the store thrives.

Yelp
The staff is SO friendly and welcoming! Lots of chicken for the price, and a very fun spot with a make your own ramen bar. Would recommend giving this place a try

Yelp
The staff is incredibly kind. They are definitely worth a shot if you are in the neighborhood!

Yelp
Fried chicken was amazing! Will definitely be getting again. Great addition to the neighborhood. Can't wait to try more of their menu.

Yelp
As other reviewers noted, super friendly staff and very cute interior. My family and I tried the bone-in and boneless chicken and thought both were great--very similar. Super crispy and really good with the kalbi sauce (which is the only one we tried this time). I'm personally partial to boneless, so those were my favorite. I'm excited to try more of their menu and think it's a great addition to the neighborhood.
