17 Phoenix Restaurants With Fantastic Burgers

"Bootleggers, which specializes in all manner of smoked meats (brisket, pork, turkey, and prime rib, for example), also turns out three excellent burgers. Except for its fancy Dijonnaise, the Capone Classic really is a classic, topped with the usual fixings. The Snitch Burger is a winner, combining bacon, white cheddar, crispy shallots, and a barbecue sauce jacked up with Dr. Pepper. But for straight-up decadence, it’s hard to beat the signature Bootlegger Burger, a towering stack of ingredients served on a sturdy pretzel bun. Think: confit slab bacon, Muenster cheese, whiskey-caramelized onions, creamy slaw, tomato, red onion, Dijonnaise, and “house sauce,” a thoroughly messy but deliciously sweet-smoky burger that’s impossible to eat politely." - Nikki Buchanan

Google
Overall a great smokehouse restaurant. We have frequent in the location in Scottsdale and I think I like Scottsdale a little better. Not to take away from this one. I just like The rustic atmosphere in Old Town Scottsdale a little more. The food seemed to have a little more flavor over there also. But our experience at this location was great. The service was incredible and it was a nice quiet dinner environment. I had the brisket in my wife had the prime rib. The prime rib was close to perfection. The portion of the brisket could be a little larger. Especially since there is a lot of fat sometimes. There really wasn't much meat left after peeling away the fat. Kind of disappointing at $29.00. although it was moist and flavorful. This coleslaw that came with it was wonderful. I given an overall four stars only because I think we're a little spoiled buy Old Town Scottsdale. But I would recommend it. It was a good dining experience.

One of my favorite places in Scottsdale. Prime Rib was great as always. Bartender/server was super cool.

I visited Bootleggers on a Sunday at around 7:45. At this time there was only 1 other couple in the restraunt sitting at the bar. The restraunt was very clean and had a nice modern looking bar setup. I sat down at a table ad ordered the capote classic burger. It took about 10 minutes for it to arrive. The burger was delicious. It had some type of mayo based sauce on it and the bun was toasted perfectly. It also came with some kettle chips. I'll be honest the burger tasted great but the 20$ price tag was a little high. I can see paying 15 but 20 is a little excessive. On a side note the waitress/bartender was wonderful. I left my credit card there and didn't realize it until a few minutes before close but she was nice enough to allow me to come back slightly after close to pick it up. All in all the burger was great. The service and atmosphere was great as well.

Google
Edwardo rules. Best person they have here. My wife and I love to have a happy hour date night here. We’ve tried just about everything on the menu and come typically at least once a week. The new happy hour rule is a little silly. Only high tops and bar which can be common on large chains. However their location, while totally floats my boat, is not very big and a completely open layout so who cares if I sit on a high top or a booth it’s a walk of 5 extra feet and way more comfortable so give me my delicious pork belly tacos and absolutely proper cocktails.(but seriously stop putting 15 ice cubes in the old fashioned :-) By the way did I mention Eduardo rules? Absolutely nicest and most diligent server they have, when he’s not here it’s not the greatest experience. I don’t know what is happening with the other servers but they don’t look like they love their life, meanwhile Eduardo is here making every tables day. Go Eduardo go. (And if you lose him you, you lose me and my company. I take everyone that comes into town into bootleggers)

Google
Great place. Ordered the jalapeno Poppers that were very well seasoned. We were recommended the sampler to try all the meats and really enjoyed it, and had an ice cream brownie for dessert. Service was very helpful and knowledgeable with the menu. Would recommend and visit again.

Google
From the time we walked in until the time we walked out, the servers were very friendly and attentive. We both got cocktails, they were average. The food was good. I had the salmon BLT (it was ok), and my son got the Bootlegger Burger and that was outstanding. I would order that if I go back. There were some items on the menu that peaked my curriosity and sounded scrumptious. We shared the fruit cobbler. That was very good. Overall, I would say it was good, but overpriced.

Google
Visiting Arizona and first dinner tried Bootlegger. Server Eduardo was the best. I wanted to see White Sox vs Diamondback game and he moved us to a better seat next to the singer (live entertainment) and put game on the TV there. The food and drinks were delicious 😋. Husband had Bootleggers burger and I had the Notorious chicken sandwich (minus the ham). Definitely recommend !!

Google
Google reviews lead me to believe this place was worth a try, but i was very disappointed. Ordered the pulled pork sandwich...way too much barbeque sauce reminded me of something i would buy at Costco. These bizarre things they call fries are overcooked pieces of potato cut like a 50 cent coin, not that good actually i would not serve them. This is supposed to be a restaurant with wow factor! Totally gross. whole thing was terrible. Second order: open face smoked turkey sandwich...cutting to the chase once i got to the turkey this stuff was cut off a turkey roll and grilled, not from a BBQ smoke house. Tasted like a grilled piece of cold cuts on a piece of bread. Served with potato chips. Great value for $20.00 a plate...then the topper im upsold on a dessert some kind of brownie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream expected an $8 to $10.00 price but when i got my bill it was a $14.00 add on. I really am wondering how anyone in there right mind could give this place a rating explains why it was pretty empty. Dumb me should have walked out.

Yelp
Dimly lit, chill, quaint, cool little place.good to take a client out for some food and/or drinks. Good to go on a date night. Not the best for kids, leave them home with a sitter lol Not a ton of seating, but that's part of what makes this place neat. Price is kinda high, more than we are used to. So that's why we only go when my father in law takes us out, or if we go on a date night. Service was good. Not bad, not exceptional. Overall we like this place and we actually do recommend it to others!

Yelp
We came right before happy hour and our server honored the prices for our drinks which was a great mark of service. We got the flapper, the bathtub gin(?) and hazard peach tea. No feedback on that at all- bathtub gin was my fave! We waited til 3 to order food because the HH prices are way less. We ordered every taco, dirty fries, smoked jalapeño poppers, and sweet corn for two people. It was more than enough food. Tacos were amazing and so much meat- I was kind of surprised you get 4 for $10. Turkey taco was less spectacular but 3 out of 4 were top notch. That pork belly one was the best! Jalapeño poppers were way over cooked though and super dry. Not sure if they were the freshest. The fries weren't cut like regular fries and I loved that! They were like thick chips but still very crispy. I would get rid of the fried egg next time as we ate around it and was kind of out of place for that appetizer. Corn is $3 bucks so you can't beat the price for the value you get! It's close by to our place so we'll definitely be going back for another try. Saw some folks eating some big ass burger and want that next time and the butter cake!

Yelp
I was in the mood for prime rib and took a chance coming in for our first time. The ambiance was great - not too loud. Our server Kiki (hope I spelled this right) was amazing - spot-on recommendation with my drink. The prime rib was fantastic and my husband enjoyed the smoked mussels. Bootleggers has made it on to our date night rotation.

Yelp
Loved this place. Meat was delicious and had so much flavor. The nachos were a must for the table and not one chip was left behind. I wanted to try the dumplings but also wanted to try the pork belly tacos which were fantastic. We went on a Monday evening and it was pretty empty which was surprising but I am guessing because of the location. I didn't realize there were two different locations. This one however was perfect for my group. The decor was rustic and modern and loved all the old garage shop lamps and exposed brick. A must try if you are in the area!

Yelp
How about on a Friday night you don't turn the lights up to bright? OMG. Awful. Entertainment and dinner.... ( always great).... But PLEASE..... turn off the brights.
google avatar

Yelp
Weird experience. Ordered a drink. Bar brings it then 5 minutes later brings another drink and takes the original drink. We sent back the second drink because it was full of pepper! The waitress was nice enough creating a pleasant experience. The food was pretty good but very pricey!

Yelp
I've been to Bootleggers for dinner- happy hour and, tonight I ordered for delivery. Last I was there for dinner, I had the French dip. The meat was very fatty. The au jus sauce delicious. For Happy Hour- the mussels are your best deal and imo the largest portion for the price. Do not order the $11 deviled eggs because, you get 1.5 eggs. The portion is ridiculously small. It's almost embarrassing to serve 1.5 halved eggs in a plate for that price. Maybe, the eggs should be charged by $2 a piece so, you aren't shocked by the portion. 2 people have to decide whom gets the .5. Embarrassing. Large jumbo shrimp are $2 a piece Happy Hour elsewhere with a fancy presentation. The "Snitch" is what I ordered for delivery. Grub Hub delivered and the meal did not arrive very hot. The fries were soggy and the coleslaw - not bad. The coleslaw tasted fresh and was light- good with a hamburger. However, a $28.00 Hamburg should be pretty exceptional. I'd rate as good/average, not the best. The meat was unseasoned and the bbq sauce was very basic. The Snitch- not overwhelmed but, not underwhelmed. The atmosphere is very relaxing. Dim lights- take your glasses/ readers. Sometimes, they have live music. Sometimes, people bring their crying babies. I wouldn't recommend for Happy Hour because, unhappy kids have no where to play or be entertained. Since the location is in my neighborhood, I'll return and keep trying different menu items.

Yelp
Visited here couple Saturday nights ago right before it got busy. Great food and their apple pie moonshine is dessert! Service and ambience was exceptional. We will be coming back again

Yelp
Bootleggers is legit. Great place for locals and those looking for a longtime staple. I recommend sitting at the bar. Service, food and beer selection is great. I went with the sriracha smoked wings. Great choice if you love wings. The pickled veggies was a great touch. #DukeOfEats

Yelp
Omg this totally slayed!!!!!!!!!!!!! I got a cheese burger with the house chips and they slayed so so so much. We also got the mac and cheese balls and they were amazingly slay. We also got the bacon board and it was yummy yum yum. The guacamole was also very very very yummy. The water was the best and better than other waters. The service was nice and the people were kind. The vibe was nice and quiet but not the feeling of abandonment. Not a lot of people which is sad but this place totally slayed 10/10.
google avatar

Emily B.

Yelp
Appetizers were so yummy, my favorite appetizer was the Mac and cheese bites. I thought they would be small because they were called "bites" but they were huge!!! The bacon board had so many types of bacon. I had no room for my burger at the end, but the burger was great! Our food came out really fast after we ordered. The service was amazing and the server was so nice to us. 5/5 would recommend so very much!!!!!!

Yelp
Boy is this good barbecue. This our first visit to Bootleggers and we'll be back real soon. My wife and tasted the bbq pork and turkey and they were delicious. Our sides of homemade potato chips, baked beans, and corn-on-con were all stars.
google avatar

Jenifer R.

Yelp
This place is out of this world... I wish that we had it closer to our home, but it is worth the drive. The bacon board is freaking out of this world, the deviled eggs are spectacular, and the prime rib is to die, for they have live music and when they don't have live music their house music is just so much fun to listen to. You would think that this would be an adult only restaurant/bar but it's a perfect place to bring your family for an incredible meal at affordable prices.

Yelp
Stopped in during the week and was so glad I did. They do basics great! I had the Snitch burger - came with waffle fries. Was cooked to perfection and so yummy. Definitely will be back. Great drinks, fun vibe, fantastic service and good pricing. A great combo!

Yelp
Talk about an amazing meal! First time here at Bootleggers and first resturant on our trip to AZ. The Boot Dumplings were awesome! The Pork Belly and Shimp pair very well together in the dumplind and the Mango Chipotle / Beet Coulis work very well with them. I highly recommend the BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich if you're as big of a fan as I am. The bun was toasted perfectly and held in all the flavors from the pulled pork, slaw and BBQ sauce. I will definitely be coming back here on my next trip to AZ! Thanks for a great experience!

Yelp
Went in a few times now each time we had Lexi as our bartender and she was awesome. She has a great personality made some great drinks. She seemed like she was the only person handling the whole restaurant, which she handled very well.. we will be back.

Judy G.

Yelp
We were visiting from out of town and decided to order uber eats from this place. WOW, it was AMAZING. The bacon board was out of this world, the deviled eggs top notch. Everything we ordered was absolutely fantastic. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Kari H.

Yelp
Been to this place a few times now as it's near my house. The cocktails here are amazing. The food is really good (tho not great) and it is expensive for what it is.
google avatar

Gema B.

Yelp
Called the night before and was told the kitchen was closing ... it was at 8 pm ... Called the next day and we were happy to know their kitchen is open until 9. First impression it was more a bar lounge feel. The dinner side was almost too dark. Gentlemen who assist us with order was very nice and helpful. We ordered prime rib, mashed potatoes, broccoli Mac and cheese balls, and seasoned fries. To be honest i only liked the Mashed potatoes and seasoned fries. Everything else was okay. Over all 3 stars
google avatar

Taylor S.

Yelp
I used to love this place, but over the last multiple years the service has become very surly and the food has gotten pretty bad. I also have seen what I was told were the owners and managers sitting at the bar drinking while they had one bartender who was totally overwhelmed by customers without helping her out. Last time I was there will be my last.

Yelp
Stopped by @bootleggerssmokehouse in Phoenix this past weekend for some appetizers and drinks. We ordered the Smoked Wings, fried Mac N Cheese balls, Deep Fried Ice cream for dessert along with a few cocktails. The food was delicious and the drinks were tasty. Will be back to check out their BBQ on the next visit! * Smoked Lemon Pepper Chicken Wings. * Fried Mac N Cheese Balls- Pasta, Bechamel Creamy Cheese Sauce, and Panko Crumbs. * Fried Ice Cream- Cinnamon Sugar Coated Tortilla Bowl Filled with Deep Fried Ice Cream and Topped with Chocolate Syrup. * The Flapper Cocktail- House Infused Strawberry Moonshine, Orgeat Syrup, Mint, Lemon, and Bubbles.

Yelp
A great, quiet place for bbq, happy hour, and to meet a friend to catch up. Good happy hour menu. They have moonshine, which I haven't tried yet, and a good wine selection.
google avatar

Kaz S.

Yelp
Tranquil. Stopped by for lunch on our way to run some errands. Was pleasantly surprised. At first I thought the prices were a little high for BBQ and/or lunch. But this place is upscale. The mussels app with Shriner sausage is tantalizing. We also shared a 2 meat plate (added ribs for a 3rd meat). The coleslaw is more vinegary than creamy (which is my favorite). The homemade tortillas and toasted bread was all phenomenal. Broccolini side was a little oily but the flavor was excellent. Not too crowded mid day on a Saturday. Excellent customer service. Overall, a very tranquil BBQ spot!

Yelp
***TRANSPHOBIC COWARDS**** Used to really like this place. The food was good, but the prices have been going up quite a bit since Covid. $11 for 3 deviled egg halves and $18 for guacamole, but used to feel it was worth it, until last Friday. My wife and I stopped in and I ordered a Budweiser which I normally drink there. Server said they did not have any, so I asked for a Bud Light. Was told they did not have that either. I asked if this was because of the transgender issue, and she said she could not comment on it. So I asked when did they stop serving Budweiser products and she said it was a month ago. Now if you want to take a stand about an issue then own it. Do not tell your staff that they cannot comment on it. I would never have known that this bar was transphobic if I did not drink Budweiser. Everyone should know they are transphobic! They stopped serving a brand of beer that was trying to be inclusive! Pretty sad and needless to say my wife and I will no longer be going there.

Yelp
Great food awesome atmosphere. The sampler platter is awesome. A little bit of everything.
google avatar

Yelp
We had the best Bloody Mary's that came with burger slider on Sunday to celebrate a birthday. I wish I could remember our server name because she was absolutely fabulous!!!! It was last Sunday at Shea location. We will all definitely be back!
google avatar

Bobby L.

Yelp
Took my parents here on Father's Day. It rocked! I had the Prime Rib and it was great
google avatar

H M.

Yelp
Combination plate for two was excellent. We asked to replace link with additional shredded pork and turkey replaced by brisket. Everything delicious. Service was excellent. Bar is quite extensive.
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
What a great place! No wonder DDD showcased this joint! Amazing hamburgers and drinks. The entire night was just a treat! Definitely going again if I come back to Phoenix!

Jacob M.

Yelp
Food was amazing. Looked up Triple D for a suggestion, and Guy sent us to the right place. My wife had the mussels as her meal, and I had the brisket sandwich! Washed it down with a couple WOW brews and called it a success.

Jennifer W.

Yelp
Definitely not planning to waste our time doing takeout from this place in the future. I called twice and instead of someone telling me that they were closed for the evening for a private event both times I was hung up on so I assumed that no one would actually consider doing that to a potential customer, and drove down to bootleggers to see a paper on the window, telling customers that they are closed for a private event. Just a suggestion for future posting something like that on the website would be a great idea.
google avatar

Brad H.

Yelp
Not sure how to review this place. Chips and quac delicious but like 19.00, 5 shrimp appetizer 17.00. Let's just say I ran out of money before we made it to the main course. Thank goodness I had a fiver in my wallet stopped by a fast food joint and grabbed a burger so I wasn't hungry. Atmosphere great, service good, food tasty....but way overpriced for what you get.
google avatar

Charley T.

Yelp
Top notch restaurant. You can smell the smoky BBQ walking up to the restaurant. We had a party of 4 so we ordered the sampler platter for 4. It was amazing. Plenty of food for everyone. The ribs were awesome, brisket was tender, sausage was spicy etc.. Their fluffy tangerine clouds IPA is delicious. We will be coming back here for sure.
google avatar

Anothony S.

Yelp
Get new management. It's truly unbelievable how much this restaurant went downhill. The last two times were 100% different than all the years we've come here. They have cut portion sizes, only small piece of dark Turkey on the big platter sampler $56!! Use to have thick slices of carved white Turkey breast! They don't think customers will notice cutting corners. Suddenly the "French fries" are thin little burnt chips & for an "up charge!" Get out of Scottsdale if you can't serve quality. Other customers complaining.
google avatar

Sam A.

Yelp
Failed to meet my expectations badly based on Yelp reviews or a tripple D location. Found BBQ to be pricy for serving size. Most served warm but far from hot. Brisket was best, with good flavor, good bark, but pretty fatty. Links pretty spicy. Smoked turkey bland. Pull something, think beef but far from sure. Beans ok. Slaw very week, almost just shredded cabbage. Sampler for two for $40 is just wrong, maybe worth $30. Small cobbler was $10. Pepsi products plus beer and tea. Three house BBQ sauses, dr pepper, org and halipino. None were that good. Service was weloming and good but they do not welcome negative feedback. Dave would be shocked I think. Will not try again.
google avatar

Courtney B.

Yelp
Great happy hour! Brisket nachos were yummy, we will definitely go back to try some other appetizers!
google avatar

Tina W.

Yelp
Excellent food, and customer service. I had the guacamole and chips, and the smoked mussels. Both were delicious. Great cocktails also.
google avatar

Cally W.

Yelp
Way too overpriced for the food that you get. $14 for 3 jalapeño poppers? C'mon man. Definitely better places in the area to go where you can get more bang for your buck.
google avatar

Cindy W.

Yelp
First time here. Our server was Shea!! She walked us thru ordering both drinks and food. The combo plate was delish. The Dr Pepper bbq sauce is worth coming back for. And the engagement and conversation we had with Shea was refreshing and wonderful. Overall great experience!!
google avatar

Richard D.

Yelp
First of all, great service and delicious crafted cocktails, but the French Dip sandwich is unbelievably good! Tender and full of smoky flavor. I love it, but it's hard not to order it. It deserves more than 5 stars.

Erinn D.

Yelp
The chicken tenders were soggy but we did not eat in store so I think I will go in the stir to give it a chance

Yelp
This place ROCKS, The food & drinks was absolutely delicious, the service was Great ,,,

Yelp
Went for the first time tonight and enjoyed our experience. The food was soo good! We ordered three veggie sides because we couldn't decide. Both the cauliflower dishes were amazing, you can't go wrong. Chives are a garnish with everything which, meh. But if that's our biggest food related complaint...where's bad? The brisket was the perfect fall apartness you expect. The hot links were mildly hot, but this wimp in the face of heat enjoyed the one I stole from my husband. Sides can absolutely be split! The ambiance is excellent; they had a live musician and the audio was done well so you could hear him without drowning out dinner conversation. We will be back!
google avatar

Bill B.

Yelp
I had never eaten here even though I lived down the street for years. I deeply regret this oversight and have been trying to make up for lost time. My wife and I eat here every other week or so, and recommend it to all of our friends. The food is based around smoked meat and I have not found an item that I did not like. Every meal leaves me full, but never with regrets. The smoked mussels are a particular favorite as an appetizer, the beet salad is fantastic, and the chopped brisket sandwich my favorite entree. You pay extra for "cottage fries" but they are quite worth it! The staff are attendant, helpful, efficient, and friendly. Amanda, Jordan, and Alexis really make every visit wonderful--Alexis even remembered my wife's drink preferences on our second visit! Learn from my error and go eat there today!

CJ C.

Yelp
Visited for lunch yesterday and to be honest, the bar was set high. I moved here from Austin Texas...the mecca of BBQ and smoked meats. Drumroll...wait, none needed, you already saw my rating. The place was nearly empty (2pm on a Saturday), but i got the sense that that was unusual. The gentleman who greeted us and took our orders was helpful and polite. Great atmosphere, outstanding food. Why not 5 stars? Our waitress (who brought out our food and cleared our plates) seemed not to be having a good day and was non responsive to our thanks/comments. Not a deal breaker, but... Awesome place. I'll be back!

Lilbit5150 B.

Yelp
We went for happy hour. Let me tell you. The food was off the charts delicious! The service was great. Can't wait to go back and try more of their dishes.
google avatar

Kristen S.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I went here for dinner last night and our experience was less than positive. Not only did we have to flag our waitress down - as she had not been back since our food had been brought and we were both out of beverages - there was also a GIGANTIC cockroach that scurried across the floor as we ate our dinner. When we brought this to our servers attention the response was less than understanding. We received a brushed off "oh sorry" followed by her walking away. We are extremely disappointed in the way this was handled - since it wasn't at all and the lack of customer service. Not to mention the dinner we were unable to finish consuming as we were both too grossed out. When we flagged our waitress down again to ask for our check, again the attitude was surprisingly nonchalant and paying for a meal with didn't eat along with concerns about a Cockroach going unresolved is extremely disappointing. We had heard such good things about this BBQ and were very excited to try. 100% would never return and both being in fields where empathy and customer service is everything - we are shocked.
google avatar

Spencer V.

Yelp
Great service and very cool ambiance... that being said, the food simply did not taste good. Hate to say it and am trying to be fair but you have your warning. Maybe an off night but we threw it away, $90.00 for two people and it was a waste. Probably won't give it another shot, hopefully y'all have a better experience.

Yelp
Bootleggers BBQ is the bomb! Went in to grab some food late (9:30). Kitchen closes at 10 but establishment closes at 11. Started with the bacon board. It seems a bit pricey but WOW. The variety was great. My favorite was jalapeño. The little pickles were yummy too. On to dinner. I had the wedge salad. Who goes to a BBQ place and orders a wedge salad? Me ok. I love a good wedge salad. This one was very good. I also knew my man would share his brisket and mac and cheese so salad was cool. The brisket was amazing. So tender. The spiced BBQ sauce was so good neither of us even tried the regular one. The mac and cheese was good. I just am completely spoiled by another establishments mac and cheese so I'm always somewhat disappointed. It's good. Try it. A big shout out to Brianna our waitress. Super friendly knowledgeable cute girl. She is an asset to the business. I look forward to another visit here and I'm having the brisket tacos!

Yelp
We finally tried Bootleggers after hearing about it from a ton of our friends and Neighbors. We will definitely be back. You would never guess that such a great place is hidden in the back corner of a tiny shopping center, but it's there! We had their brisket and prime rib and both were pretty good I would give the brisket five stars and the prime rib four stars. Bbq was better than the prime rib. the sides were fabulous... we had brocollini and cauliflower mash. The drink selection was great, the bar also looked like a great place to hang out and either eat and or drink with a few friends and the staff was fabulous. It has a neighborhood feel to it, but is large enough to accommodate a big party. The other things on the menu that looked appealing included salmon and pulled pork, both of which we will try next time we go back. Overall, solid food but definitely stick with the barbecue as opposed to the prime rib as that's clearly their specialty!
