NYC’s 18 Essential Barbecue Restaurants

"This barbecue across the street from Jersey City’s Grove Street PATH station doubles as a beer bar, and has seats along the open front windows that offer great views. Predictably, there’s a speakeasy in the basement. Chef and pitmaster Kenny Callaghan was the original pitmaster at Blue Smoke, and his beef ribs and pulled pork appetizer show it." - Robert Sietsema

I had a fantastic time with friends; our waitress was amazing and friendly. The atmosphere is so cute and feels like you’re in Nashville. If you’re an espresso martini fan, try the frozen espresso martini. The food is also good, and the brisket sandwich was delicious. The buffalo chicken dip was good and very mild on the spicy side.

The service at this restaurant was fantastic! Francis was a one-man show—serving, running food, and bussing tables all by himself. He had a great attitude, was constantly checking in on us, and really made the experience feel personal. One thing that stood out (in a not-so-great way) was that there were three bartenders at the bar who didn’t seem busy, yet none of them stepped in to help Francis. Still, he handled everything like a pro. The food was amazing overall—super flavorful! The only minor things: the potato was a bit bland and could’ve used more cheese, and the bacon on the mac and cheese was a little salty for my taste. But everything else was delicious. The ambiance was great too, with music and a nice vibe. Definitely recommend this spot—just hope they start giving Francis the support he deserves!

★★★★★ Stopped by on a Saturday night, and the energy was fantastic! Boots and Bones has that perfect balance of an upscale dive bar—fun, lively, and full of character. The neon cowboy decor sets the vibe, and the music keeps the place buzzing. The bar is huge, and the food does not disappoint. The wings are an absolute steal—highly recommend the garlic parmesan! The fries were solid, too. Drinks are a great deal—$15 for a big pitcher of Bud Light that easily poured five beers. While the cocktail list isn’t extensive, they make up for it by pouring them strong. Overall, this spot is a Jersey City staple—great atmosphere, good food, strong drinks, and just steps from the PATH at Grove. Definitely worth a visit!

Really want to give this restaurant 5 stars. The service was amazing and I ran into the owner who also was a cool dude. The atmosphere was great and even though they had one server, we were still taking care of on time. I order the smoked wings, they had a good flavor but some were very dry. Not sure if it was reheated or overcooked. The mac and cheese was not to my liking but sure did look tasty. I also ordered a sausage which was just ok. I would try this restaurant again- it’s a cool spot.

Came here for our friends bday dinner on a Tuesday night. Place was cool they had game/trivia night on. Mostly people drinking, less diners, so we hoped service would be quick. Our mains took awhile, our server Aziah although she kept coming back to check on us, she wasnt pleasant at all just doing the bare minimum not even smiling like she ddnt wanna be there at all and if we have had asked for additional orders/requests it would take her forever, i think she was the only one running the floor that night, while the bar had atleast 4 people doing nothing. Food was terrible except for the Nachos. I had the Dirty cowboy, meat was good but other than that it didnt have any sauce at all, just meat and egg and cheese on a bun, no side condiments whatsoever for a 3 layer burger without any Aioli or sauce whatsoever it was awful. The brisket pasta, dont even! Bland and oily. Lastly,The "18 hour" brisket is a Joke!! Please do not advertise as such coz its nothing close to texas brisket or slow cooked brisket. It tasted like a microwaveable brisket with a bite into it like ur eating a patty. Must be a great place to drink NOT to eat.

I finally visited after a while of wanting to try this place. Everything was great except for the ribs and the macaroni. The ribs were SO salty. They were inedible. The macaroni noodles were so undercooked. They were incredibly hard. I couldn't eat it. The service was great, though, and so were the other dishes.

Google
Visited Boots and Bones and had an amazing experience! The burgers and fries were top-notch, and their mimosa and Bloody Mary were perfectly crafted. The Halloween decorations added a fun and festive touch to the atmosphere. I also appreciated the rustic charm of the wooden furniture. Overall, Boots and Bones is a great spot for a delicious meal and a fun night out. Highly recommend!

Google
My 3 friends and I went to “Boots and Bones” at 116 Newark Avenue, Jersey City for Saturday brunch and we were enchanted by the stunning decor, wooden booths, expansive bar and the numerous televisions. The Tex / Mex style food was totally delicious. The staff of Kelly, Francis, Shawn and Marian was personable and efficient. We had a grand time. I hear the evening crowd has been turning out too. That’s terrific.

Yelp
PROS: Nice food, friendly staff, good menu variety as well. Place is dressed as a country location and has one floor for eating and the bottom floor for clubbing CONS: We went on Saturday night and they hardly ever played country music. Also, the club downstairs needs to be air conditioned more since its very humid with 10,000 people dancing down there OVERALL: I gave this a good rating because I do believe this is a top notch bar, but they have to increase their country music outplay on Saturday night at the very least to fit their atmosphere

Yelp
Like with any BBQ joint, you have to know what to order. In order to do so, when my friend and I go to a new place we try as many things as possible. Here is the breakdown: Sausage (good) Mac and Cheese (good) brisket (good) Fries and cole slaw (ok) pulled pork (not worth trying) As for the place, great location, great ambiance, lots of screens, great bartenders and service, and a great and varied menu. Recommend.

Yelp
Yeehaw!!! Y def need to saddle up and head to this restaurant!! I enjoyed my time at Boots and Bones!!! Very lively and fun atmosphere!! Waitstaff was so welcoming!! Menu is pretty huge, make take some time deciding on cocktails and food as u have so many options. I decided on a Margarita. Drinks are a bit overpriced to be so small. Now to the food, i ordered the Brisket and it was so tender and had just the right amount of fat. They def could five more quantity on the sides, i barely had any fries but what i had was very tasty. My cousin had the beef ribs and they were not great. Very dry and barely any meat on the bones. Overall i enjoyed my evening here and can wait to come again after 10pm....Under the boot lol.

Yelp
Boots & Bones has been at 116 Newark Avenue, Jersey City for about one year. I meant to try it out, so today I did. I was amazed at how spacious it was and the beauty of the individualized wooden booths. My friends and I loved the look and enormity of the bar. The country western music was at a pleasant tone and the ambiance delightful. We ordered from the brunch menu and we were quite pleased with the food and its presentation. Major kudos to manager Kelly and server Francis. They were personable and took good care of us. The 3 of us will surely be back.

Yelp
Came here on a Sunday afternoon with a friend. I parked in a near by parking deck. The place is cool with lots of dim lighting and plenty of tv's. I ordered a berry mocktail and my friend ordered a margarita. Both were good. They also give you pork rinds to snack on wail you wait. I dont eat pork but my friend said they were ok. I ordered a pulled chicken sandwich and my friend ordered the whisky burger. Both came with fries. The food came out fairly quick. My sandwich was ok. The chicken was very dry like sand, and took a while to chew, and my bottom bun was soggy af which wasnt that pleasant. My friend had the same issue with his bun. The buns they use cannot stand up to the meats they put on there. The bathroom wasnt clean. No toilets flushed,Very dim lighting, and no toilet paper or paper towels. Luckily I carry my own paper. All in all, it was underwhelming. A one and done restaurant. I wouldnt drive 45 min to come here again. But this place is ok if you want to sit at the bar, get drinks, and watch sports while eating lack luster food.

Yelp
Very good barbecue. Great drinks, service, and music. My daughter took me here for Father's Day, and it was a great choice.

Yelp
Honestly, I felt like we were being served boots & bones at Boots & Bones. It is the type of place you go to in your 20s when you want "fancy" cocktails and food that's a step above bar food (and that's being kind of generous). The vibe is "southern bbq" (whose southern bbq?) meets sports bar. The music is quite loud and the ..clientele... likes to shriek. Our server was nice and attentive, perhaps too much. It felt like we were being rushed out at times. At least two of the items we wanted to order were ..."sorry we're out of that." It was 6pm on a Saturday evening and you're already out of stock? Okay. We were a group of 5 and ordered a variety of items. Everything was just fine. We started with the deviled eggs with crispy bacon [$9] and the pork rind "crusted" mac and cheese [$10]. The deviled eggs: there were two medium sized eggs cut in half, so four pieces in total. There was barely any mayonnaise, a sprinkling of paprika, and a tiny piece of bacon on top. To say we were underwhelmed is an understatement. The mac and cheese was the better of the two items, very cheesy, almost like velveeta. It was hardly crusted in pork rinds though, I had to search for them. We shared The Works [$116] as we wanted a taste of all the bbq items. I can't really say if there was a favorite among the brisket, the ribs, the singular piece of sausage, the chopped pork, and the shredded chicken. It feels like whatever sauce was used was added at the last minute or as an afterthought, nothing was very spiced or smoked. Nothing fell off the bone or was fork tender. It all just felt flat and uninteresting. Maybe the pickles and the fries [they were everything you want in a fry, crispy and salty] were the best things on the tray. The coleslaw was basically just cabbage with a few sesame seeds. We got the corn bread [$6] with honey butter as a side. It was fine, I suppose you can't really screw up corn bread. Lastly, we had the Smoked Chicken Quesadilla [$16], which was also fine. It was greasy but crunchy and cheesy like any good quesadilla. There were jalapeños which were definitely out of a can or jar. I think the quesadilla would tick all the boxes if I were drunk. What I especially enjoyed is receiving the bill [$261] with the 20% gratuity already added on. It was very presumptuous that that is the tip we wanted to give. In all honesty, I never tip less than 20% but it still rubbed me the wrong way especially after such a lackluster experience. PS: the women's bathroom gave dive bar vibes with toilet paper on the floor and one operational stall, the other had no handle on it and seemed to be locked. Cool beans.

Yelp
4.5-5 overall -- Hit every box collectively and blew each category individually out of the water (food, drinks, service, ambiance). Already planning my next visit for later this week. I see why they're trending on TikTok. I grew up in JC and just recently lived there as an adult, this is definitely a gem. Food was amazing, one of those places where any dish anyone at the table gets, hits in an epic way. Out Harry daughtered harry daughters and at a better price point (Iykyk). I had the lamb chops, loaded fries and tried the wings. Mash potatoes and spinach were some of the best I've ever had and as were the lamb chops. Brisket on the fries transported me somewhere else and I'm not being dramatic lol. I was initially plotting on what I needed to take home but everything was so good, just need to come back to try a few things lol. My friends all loved their dishes as well and the apps and are dying to return, they had the pork chop, pork ribs, & one of the burgers (I believe the dirty cowgirl). Amazing service from the host, to the server at our table (even when there were food delays or she was busy, would make brief touchpoints and she was personable). Host was friendly and informative at the desk and cow girl (not sure if she was a host or manager or both, but also helped to keep things coordinated in the aisles, energy up and checked on our table occasionally, management and security also generally seemed kind and helpful). Stood out because I was already impressed by the food, drink I had (Darlene Darlene in a disco ball cup) & the ambiance and the service was the cherry on top, from start to finish. Thankfully we came when we did Friday around 9 because around 10, we got to kind of see the night ambiance also, in contrast to the day vibes. They turn the bright lights/ signs off and just let a disco ball light kind of cascade across the room. The music also is more throwback and karaoke hits then so felt like a good night vibe also to be with friends and have a drink. Apps were really filling, could see it being a spot where you get just apps and drinks if you come when it's not crazy busy. They also have a lot of happy hour deals set for during the week so could see it being a vibe. Cons: - was a 30 min wait (which is standard on a Friday night) but became a 45-1hr wait without much notice and they kept saying they were cleaning the table, even after it was 15 mins later. But tbh it was worth it because everything was good and generally stayed in communication during the wait. Just would've appreciated a bit more of a direct & transparent approach so ppl can use the hr in the meantime vs thinking it's 30 and standing in the entrance area. There's also a cocktail bar downstairs (a pro) for while you wait, wish we would've had more realistic communication on the wait because we would've went down but we took a peek and seemed like a good modern speakeasy vibe. Need to check it out next time! I recommend getting a reservation or picking a strategic time to go, this was also 8:30-9 on a Friday and they're trending so peek busy probably. - Entrees also took awhile to come out but apps came fast and drinks held us over, just was weird delay in between. - there was auto gratuity/ service fee automatically included on top of taxes (I don't mind but for a place where you're a 1-4 top it's not standard practice, even in JC so thought it was kind of odd). Especially for it not to be a club or hookah place or standard practice in the city, also don't get what the service fee goes toward if the gratuity goes to the waiter. Not like an app was used or other technology or additional service was provided, like paying a service fee for a table tablet or on an app for delivery. I've worked as a server so I respect the autograt, especially if the crowd isn't tipping consistently being drawn from social media or area. But context on the service fee would've been helpful & notice of autograt on the menus (if it isn't already)

Yelp
My review is months old - whoops. My friends planned a surprise celebratory dinner for my recent engagement. We were a group of 11. Our waitress was Madison. She was absolutely amazing and really patient. The manager (or owner - sorry not sure!) was also extremely attentive and friendly. We observed him helping his staff and he was respectful toward them which we respected and appreciated. We had a great experience. The food and drinks were good. I was slightly disappointed later on in the night when they changed from country music to other music. We went to the speakeasy as well after dinner and it was really nice down there! I would definitely return here!

Yelp
We're living in Jc less than a year now and finally tried this place. It's very loud, so I wouldn't recommend for a first date or if you really want to have convo while eating. My boyfriend got the Cajun pasta which had a kick to it and I got the crispy chicken sandwich which was fine. The cocktails aren't strong in my opinion so I stuck with margaritas. We were disappointed to be seated by our host with a cluster of other customers when there were private and open seats/booths all over the restaurant. Some of the seating is way to close so patrons are next to each other even if they want privacy. The service is good - they're attentive and cheery but prob wouldn't go back since we like more low-key and quiet dining experiences. This is a true rodeo bbq joint as loud as a block party.

Yelp
Came on a rainy day after missing the feet to Gitanos. Got off the train, and it was the first place we saw, so we went in. Lively place, very big, with a huge bar. The waitress wasn't attentive at first, but she got better and was nice. I ordered the Mnango Habenero wings, which were good but didn't taste fresh; I could tell they were frozen. For my main, I had the 3 smoked brisket Berria tacos. The tacos were good, and the dipping sauce was also good. The shredded brisket had good flavor. My ordered the same but in a quesadilla. I also had the frozen passionfruit margarita, and it was really good. Then I tried the Dirty Cowgirl, but I didn't care for the taste. By the bathroom, there's a nice sign. It seems like something goes on downstairs, but I didn't ask about it. Maybe another space. There's also outside seating. I would return. it seems like a cool place.

Yelp
Love this new spot! It's got a well rounded venue for a fun and tasty time. The main restaurant/bar is pretty big to suit anything you need... food menu is not huge, but it does have tasty options. The complimentary pork rinds are zesty and addictive. The wings were flavorful and fingerlicking good. Who can forget the drinks, go down smooth and refreshing. With an indoor and outdoor dining option this place still has more to offer. They have a downstairs venue geared towards the speakeasy feel... review to come.

Yelp
It was a Thursday evening... parking was terrible. Jersey city.. unless you park in a garage it's typical for the area. We were seated upon arrival. We had a reservation for 11 and were seated in a corner booth which seemed to be the best they could do with such a large group. Servers offered complimentary shots and were super kind. I ordered expresso martinis and they were not the best. Tasted like vodka. I ordered a frozen expresso martini and that was better but just okay. I ordered two because why not but wish it was better. I ordered the birria quesadilla and that was VERY good. Definitely recommend! We were given pork rinds for starters. I didn't try them but they looked good. Atmosphere is better than the drinks but food was better. The speakeasy downstairs was cute and I was told they have drinks and apps and are open until 1pm. Will I be back? I sure will be.

Yelp
Soo came here because there was a lot of hype about it on social media. This spot is so cute inside with the design and set up it take you on a ride to the country side! Service was spectacular! Our waiter was friendly and let us know about the happy hour deals! He was very attentive in a good way making sure to clean up the plates on our table once we were done and ask if we wanted more drinks once we were almost till the end ! Food was tasty! I was full off just eating half of the grilled chicken sandwich! Was glad I could bring some left overs for the next day! My friend said the birria tacos were also delicious and well made. My other friend said her Cajun pasty was tasty however complained that the salmon was a bit dry. The nachos were a good starter we added the shredded chicken and were not disappointed. The only thing I would recommend is more jalapeños because I love spice! The drinks were also very good we had the mango margarita and a "froze" both were tasty and snuck up on you!!

Yelp
Absolutely the best staff ever! Celebrated my birthday there last Saturday eve 4/27/2024. Multi-generational crowd at my table and every single one of them loved this place. Top notch, friendly and professional service and yummy food. To our waitress Madison, our runners Ryan, Luis and Alex, bussers Felipe and Daniel and my birthday posse Manssa, JC and Kelly: thank you very much for a great time!

Yelp
The only reason they're not getting 5 stars from me is because I waited forever to be taken care of. I had to beckon the person behind me at the podium. My frustration was really how were they behind me the entire time talking & not noticing I was still without food. After about 15-20mins waiting literally & getting their attn I stressed my annoyance so I guess that's why they brought pork rinds. They were gross anyway. I gave them to girls sitting next to me as they were deciding if they should order food there or not. They also annoyed me by charging me completely wrong, then I waited for them to handle that. I know the owner, he was there but I didn't want to make it look like a major complaint. The brisket sandwich & fries were delicious! Was a bit shocked at the cheese as I've never had cheese on brisket before but nice pairing. Hopefully service gets better.

Yelp
If you're looking for southern bbq then look no further! Boots and bone offers all of the southern delights such as pulled pork, brisket, Mac and cheese and even mini cornbread! Southern style chicken tacos were also a fan favorite. Ambiance is rustic southern chic with a huge full service bar. Wait staff was timely and courteous. Management was personable and helpful in deciding on all menu and drink options. If you like peach vodka try The Boot! The Dirty Cowgirl is also another fun and delicious cocktail.

Yelp
My wife and I are a sucker for country-themed spots, and we knew we had to try Boots & Bones sooner or later. That came with a recent spur-of-the-moment visit to JC to see what's changed after moving away quite a few years ago, and the restaurant did not disappoint. First off, the mac and cheese had such good flavor and was definitely elevated above an uninspired, boring mac and cheese. I did not expect that to be the highlight of our meal, but it actually may have been. It's hard to say, though, because the Boots & Bones Banger sandwich was also phenomenal. Packed with tender brisket, the sandwich had excellent flavor throughout. We were definitely happy with our dishes, and I think the next step is to come back to experience it at night.
google avatar

Yelp
Wow! Please go! Lol the vibes were top tier and the service was speedy. The wait for a table was about an hour on a Friday night so try to make a reservation. But listen everything was delicious! The wings were cooked perfectly. The loaded fries have brisket and so much flavor. You could definitely go here just for appetizers but the entrees also didn't disappoint! 100/10 and I'll definitely make my way back to JC just for this place. Oh and they have a bar downstairs that's like a speakeasy vibe

Yelp
First off let me say that I've been craving barbecue for about a month and it's really hard to find good barbecue in New Jersey so I saw this spot on TikTok and decided to check it out. It was definitely a vibe it was in a middle of a square which definitely made it seem fitting. The hostess was very nice even though we didn't have a reservation we were sat quickly our waitress. I can't remember her name, but she was freaking awesome as well. Beers are always ice cold I decided to do an espresso martini that was really good. My lady tried one frozen that was also good . YOU HAVE TO TRY THE WINGS THE BRISKET WAS BUTTERY SO TENDER. AND THe Brisket fries are a must have

Yelp
I went Saturday the day after their soft opening, and it was great! Overall great soft opening, they didn't have a ton of options but I got most of all the food that was offered Pulled pork ($16): good taste came with bread, coleslaw, and pickles. Was very Smokey in flavor but was overall very good probably one of the best things we got. Deviled eggs ($6): among my group was named #1 dish. they are pretty vinegar forward but we're really really tasty! The waiter brought them over and we originally didn't order them so they gave it to us on the house! Mac and cheese ($6): my favorite dish of the night. Cheesy and in all the best ways, when paired with the pulled pork was amazing! 10/10 Chicken wings ($15): they weren't smoked which was a little sad but they were really good not necessarily a stand out dish. Pork rinds ($6): these were on the house and were really tangy. I believe they had an elote spice but it was so tasty. I would get these again. Cole slaw ($6): very good vinegar forward again but really wish it was a little more creamy. Cornbread ($6): was probably our least favorite but only because they were smaller. They did have maple butter and it was so good! Ambiance was pretty loud we got in around 6:30pm on a Saturday and it was more restaurant feel but as it got later it defiantly became more bar like. There is supposed to be a speakeasy, and you could feel that in the vibe change. Service was phenomenal they gave us pork rinds on the house and when they messed up our order they gave us the plate on the house. The server was very attentive and provided a lot of great suggestions and was super understanding. I'd be interested in coming back once they have a full menu!

Yelp
I'm a big Nashville fan and this place feels just like it. With the fun atmosphere, good bbq, and fun drinks, can't go wrong with this place. Birria quesadillas and burger were amazing. Drinks were so fun and delicious.

Yelp
I like this place in concept, very rare to find a huge southern bar with BBQ in NYC area. Some of the BBQ, particularly the brisket was good. Everything else pretty much underwhelmed tho. The pulled pork came pre sauced and was not overly flavorful. The mac and cheese was not seasoned at all (at least not that I could tell!). Sausage was decent. I would come back for a beer but not for food.
google avatar

Maria B.

Yelp
When I tell you this bar showed up & showed out but so did we. We have no name for the bartender but she was what any great night outs hopes & dreams depend on. Ran around Jersey city in a birthday scavenger hunt... we are crowning her Miss champion bartender for participation, enthusiasm, general awesomeness out of the 20+ bars we went to. Go here and say hi to her for elite fun. Side note*** Alex loves you and graciously invites you to come party in tampa whenever you want. We adore you xx

Yelp
This place gets a one for their new waitress that just started whose service was great and for their chilled ambiance. Came here for BBQ food and got the sausage, Ribs and my friend had deviled eggs. I'm not too sure how the ribs were made but they were a bit rubbery. The sausage was average at best and the deviled eggs lacked seasoning. Disappointing
google avatar

Tiffani M.

Yelp
Came here for a birthday celebration and the staff was very nice. The food was okay but nothing over the top. We actually chose this place because of their happy hour and the margaritas were a bit sour compared to what I'm used to. Overall the ambiance wasn't terrible, maybe I'd visit again if I'm in the area.

Yelp
All tastes good. Portions are big-ish. Definitely take a table outside. Inside misc is overwhelmingly loud. Service is decent, although a bit slow.

Yelp
I had high hopes for Boots & Bones when I heard about a new BBQ joint opening in JC. Maybe I should have tampered my expectations. Maybe Boots & Bones should have lived up to them. Either way, my experience here was a mess. I arrived around 5:50 pm on a Friday and expected there to be a wait; luckily, my party of four was seated immediately at a nice booth near the window. The restaurant was relatively empty when we arrived and so our waiter was attentive at first; it didn't last long, though, as the restaurant filled to capacity and none of the staff seemed to have any experience handling a crowd. We ended up waiting over an hour for our food. (When you order the 18-hour brisket, you don't expect it to actually take 18 hours.) And the food was... fine. We ordered the $18 shrimp cocktail and it was just four of the most underwhelming shrimp I've ever seen. The entrees were good -- I got the salmon and it was nicely cooked -- but nothing is worth the wait. It's possible that this place will get better as it settles in, but they were not equipped to handle customers tonight.

Yelp
Was here this past weekend with my friends what a great little spot! They did such a good job with this. The bathrooms are super cool haha I know weird but they really are. We came late night to party so we didn't get to try the food but I've heard from friends that they have good little bites as well. Bartenders were all friendly and fast. Def will be coming back!

Yelp
Awesome bbq and awesome drinks.. DJ played good music! Looking forward on returning to this place!

Yelp
This is the place right out of the train. Since I had few minutes to kill to catch a ride home I hopped in for a drink and was greeted with "we at last call". Hello to you too. Not my first rodeo here and never felt welcomed. Gave it a chance few times. Place is straight up not friendly. Bartenders tend to locals who want free refills but not much inviting to ppl who just walk in for a drink just. Whoever manages this place needs to check their things. Hostess seems to be working beyond her hours...... and some person keeps asking her why she wants to go home ‍

Yelp
It was a series of occurrences that led to this rating. After being seated at the table, I immediately noticed something on the plate. Once looking closer, it appeared to be phlegm on the plate. I was instantly turned off from ordering food. Trying to give them another shot, I ordered a drink, which came in a dirty glass with dried-up food on it. The server handled it well, brought me a new drink, and apologized. The cherry on top, when leaving the restaurant, we said thank you to the host, and they completely ignored our comment and continued with their conversation. I'm not sure if I would ever go back to Boots and Bones.

Yelp
The ambience is very good full of local people everybody's nice. The service was excellent. All the waiters are very nice, very congenial, very attentive, but not to attention. We ordered the black peppered ribs , Three bones for $28 the ribs were good they were cooked just right. For $28 I've had better ribs . We ordered the side, baked potatoes. They were not cooked all the way through. It's almost like they baked them earlier in the day, then reheated them while we were waiting for our dinner. I would definitely come back but no Bake Potato......

Yelp
We order Lamb Chops with smash potatoes to go and this is what we got. We spect a better plate According to the price it has. That food looks like someone else's leftovers. The portion is poorly and the smash potatoes tastes like a box potato.

Yelp
Very good BBQ place - St. Louis ribs that is. The sausage is okay. The chicken pull pork is not that good and their brisket, pull pork is so so. We ordered "the works" - said feeds 4 but only three average 130lbs. person can finish this. We drank beers and water with our meal and pork rinds to get full. It's more like a sit and are bar than a restaurant. Ma

Yelp
First off This place is beautiful No expense was spared when they built this establishment But-whomever is running it needs to go! Happy hour changed...again Third time or so...you never know what you are getting! No well drinks No wine What?!?!? Draft beer wasn't good-we know when something isn't what it's advertised to be Food was-mediocre at best Entrees are expensive for the small portion you get I don't know...this place needs help Stick to Grove Station for a better happy hour

Yelp
The food was very disappointing. I ordered the brisket hash, and I couldn't finish it, because it was so greasy. My partner ordered the eggs Benedict and said the same thing. I wish the food was better, because the atmosphere is nice. I need to go grab a snack at Dunkin' Donuts because I'm still hungry. What a waste of money.

Yelp
This good little spot, a little pricey ($26) for five bones (under seasoned), a dab of slaw, ten fries, and no silverware. The ribs, however, did have a nice pull and a decent smoke ring. The sauce should only be condiment, not star, no matter how good it is. Don't order a whiskey on the rocks they charge two dollars per rock.

Yelp
Go to Boots & Bones!! That's the review!!! This place is the absolute coolest. The food is absolutely delish and fresh, no frozen food heated up here.... The drinks are great and the service is amazing, S/O to Paula who took excellent care of us and the vibe is just that... A VIBE!!! I didn't know what time expect coming but boy i'm impressed. The perfect establishment for downtown Jersey City l.

Yelp
Went for dinner and drinks. Place has nice decor and lots of activity. Good drinks but slightly overpriced. Disappointing food selection. Menu has multiple southwest/mex food items such as tacos, nachos, and quesadillas, but only one salsa option - bean and corn (no plain salsa). While I had planned to order nachos, I didn't because I don't like beans and didn't want to eat chips without salsa. Instead I ordered the Boots & Burger. The menu described it as "Black Agnus Burger With Carmelized Onions, Smoked Gouda, Casey Sauce & French Fries". The burger was tasty but unimpressive looking. It was regular fast-food-like size and left me slightly hungry afterwards. Only after lifting the bun was I able to see the cheese or the sauce. The sauce had a slight horseradish flavor, that I could not taste when eating the burger. The fries were good and when dipped in a side of the 'casey sauce' were delicious. When I return, I plan to only go for drinks and maybe have a side of fries.

Yelp
I have been to Boots & Bones once a week since it has opened. I am loving watching this place grow as an establishment. Last week I had their Shrimp & Grits for the first time, as I am slowly making my way through the whole menu. I have been searching for a mouth watering Shrimp & Grits dish, & I have finally found it. The bartender Ryan, knows his shit & is very attentive. He knows this is a fast paced environment & works to show it. You will not be thirsty here. Oh & also the mac & cheese is phenomenal. This place is great, give it a try.

Yelp
I was super excited to try this place just so I can wear my cowboy boots & the vibes and decor didn't disappoint. The decor fit the place perfectly along with the well crafted drinks. I ordered the dirty cowgirl which was good. The pork rinds they give out first were a bit stale and the rest of the food was okay. We ordered the ribs, brisket burnt ends, Mac and cheese, corn bread and chopped pork sandwich. The brisket burnt ends and corn bread were the only ones that stood out so it would come back for the drinks & apps.

Yelp
Stopped in for the first time, for brunch specifically. The male server that looks like he may or may not have an OF account had no personality; lacked the hospitality associated with bbq/southern food: * Didn't greet us with his name. * Didn't recommend anything. * Didn't ask if we have been by before. * Didn't ask how our food was before clearing the plates. I'll answer the last question since no one asked--extremely mid. I had the brisket Benedict on two English muffin halves (with the breakfast potatoes) The potatoes had no seasoning--had to request salt and pepper. Lack of actual meat--maybe 4 small pieces? And this was $19? Wow. The pepper is too big for the tiny room service shaker. I had to uncap the shaker to get the pepper to dispense. Sadly, nothing could save these bland potatoes. Typically, breakfast potatoes taste better when cooked with a little bit of bacon grease. Then I remembered I lived in Jersey City, my fault. The main entrée was extremely bland, so I requested barbecue sauce to drown it in, which also did not save it. Probably won't be back anytime soon. Please work on basic server skills and consider seasoning your food please. I wanted to give 2 stars, but I'm giving you 3 because it's nice weather and your reviews are already middling, so maybe a little charity will help.

Yelp
This came across my Instagram feed and looked like a fun place We live in Old Bridge so we were not familiar with Jersey city but there was a parking garage a few feet away from the restaurant and it was $8 to park. We had a 6:30 reservation for 12 on a Saturday. When we arrived our table was ready and waiting for us. Our server was very attentive, quickly took our orders. Everything came out in a timely fashion. We started with apps. We especially liked the burnt ends, the sweet chili shrimp and the loaded fries. All delicious. We ordered quesadillas, empanadas and burgers for dinner. Also good. The music was fun and upbeat and the guys were happy because the games were on all the tvs. Unfortunately because we had such an early reservation, we were done by 8:30 o'clock and they needed to turn the table for the next reservation. Downstairs they have a speakeasy with a DJ, but all the tables appeared to be reserved. However, seeing our disappointment, the owner, Kenny brought us downstairs And gave us a table along with complementary shots. He was very hospitable and wanted to do everything he could to accommodate us. Although the basement area was kind of tight, it had a nice ambience. At 10 o'clock we went upstairs and the place was packed. The DJ was playing And people were dancing. However, it was Taylor Swift night and there's only so many Taylor Swift songs you can stand at a time. All in all it was a fun, upbeat place, the food was good, and the service was excellent. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
Good place. Good vibes. Good servers. Never had the food. Just wish they had clean beer lines as the draft never tastes great therefore I order bottles. I really don't care though, I'd still go back as it has great vibes.

Yelp
Security was incredibly rude. It says closes by 3 am but I wasn't even allowed to finish my drink. I am in JC a lot and was excited for their specials, however I will not be returning here again. I was treated incredibly poorly after spending money in that establishment when there are plenty of places nearby. Also it says still open despite being roughly kicked out

Yelp
Had brunch there yesterday. The food was overcooked, the music made it difficult to hear the conversation. But what really annoyed me was the $1.50 credit card charge. Our bill was over $50.00. We shouldn't be charged to pay with a credit card. The only good thing I have to say about the restaurant was our server was delightful.

Yelp
A very welcome addition to the downtown JC scene. The food was well prepared and tasty though it did arrive on the slightly warm side. By the time I got to my last rib, it was cool. I assume they are still working out some service, it took 8 minutes for someone to come to take my drink order; another 10 minutes for my beer to come (they said they were changing tap). My bill was about $100 incl tip. That was for one beer, the cheapest appetizer and a main course. The sides ran the price up- I got deviled eggs, cornbread (great idea to make them bites), baked beans, and finally dessert. I really wanted a rib/chicken combo but has to settle just for ribs. I think the price point is a tad high for the area. If this is going to be a regular hangout for me then they'll have to come up with some combos that are on the value side. I really really want this place to work. The BBQ has a leg up on other places in JC. The price point, especially the lack of combo meals, will keep me away.

Yelp
I came here with my husband for the first time last weekend (Saturday). The restaurant was busy and got busier while we were there, but there are plenty of seats/tables. It's a very big restaurant. We shared the pork rind mac and cheese which is one of our favorite comfort food. It was DELICIOUS! We both ordered the same thing for late lunch - chicken quesadillas. The portion is big. I was only able to eat 1/2 of mine. They were also very good. Our waitress was Paula and she was very helpful with suggesting food from the menu, friendly and very attentive. The only reason why I didn't give them a 5-star rating is because the drink prices are expensive - $16!!!
