The Most Underrated Museum in 11 of the World’s Biggest and Best Cities, According to Time Out Editors

A space dedicated to the Portuguese naturalist master, this museum showcases his striking faience pieces produced in Caldas da Rainha as well as the sharp-witted illustrations and caricatures that filled the press in the second half of the nineteenth century. The museum hosts a varied programme with events for all ages, and if you cross the road you can take a stroll through the garden dedicated to the artist, where ceramic animals bring his whimsical world to life. - Grace Beard

Beautiful inked political oriented historical comics and amazing, fantastical ceramics! One of the most interesting museums I’ve ever been to in the world. Well worth a visit if you’re in the area. Extensive, unique and historic with English pamphlets from the ticket desk. Wonderful store with great gifts.

An interesting satirical artist. The exhibition is a bit small as they are renovating the building but it gives new insight into his work and the history of Portuguese politics. The satirical cartoons are fascinating and the illustrated menu cards are beautiful. It would be nice to see more ceramics but hopefully there will be more once the renovation is finished. As you leave take note of the tiles on the side of the house - cabbages and kittens-wonderful!

Small museum dedicated to the art and political satire of Bordalo Pinheiro. A nice 30 or 60 minute stop along the park in the Campo Grande. We visited on the way to Pimenta Palace. Most exhibits are provided in Portuguese language, although the attendant offered an English language booklet and spoke English. While small, the museum was well curated and the artwork on display all seemed intentional and interesting. The art nouveau tile work was beautiful and technically impressive.

Wonderful little museum dedicated to the art of the caricaturist and ceramicist Bordalo Pinheiro. Well worth a visit. I finally understood where the cabbage plates and swift decorations come from.

Amazing!!! Bordado Pinheiro was a genius, out of the box! His critics agains those who ru(i)ns the government are imortal, looks current days, specially Brazil, where he lived for some part of his live. MUST VISIT if you like history and arts. Btw, his art is …….you must see to understand. No words!

A really nice museum if you want to visit something except the very famous stuff on Lisbon. The vibe is cozy and it's a small place. I was in a guided tour (in English) and it was very helpful (as, if I recall correctly, most descriptions of the exhibitions were only in Portuguese). The guide was really nice and seemed to enjoy her job! The exhibitions were pretty and it was interesting to learn about Bordalo Pinheiro. The little souvenir shop had very cute stuff as well!! Recommend it for something quick but enjoyable :)
