The STEAK BOWL is my new go to post workout meal. Border Grill, though tiny in size, offers HUGE flavor across a variety of classic Mexican dishes. They are open for dine-in, takeout, or delivery via the usual apps. In an area with so many great spots to fill your belly, Border Grill MUST be in your rotation.

Employees are great, food is even better. Doesn’t look like anything special from the outside but the food is really good.

A true Westport forever staple. Trying the empanadas is a must. Border Grill 4 life.

Google
Great food, prices and the portions are above generous. Service by Luis is OUTSTANDING so are the lovely Chiquitas! They do an awesome job preparing everything fast and accurately. 1st time there spent $50 had enough food for almost 2 days! Great sauces. Everything you would want from a Mexican restaurant is there. Forget Rio Bravo, Puerto Vallarta and all those overpriced Mexican foo foo places. Border Grill is the BOMB!

Google
Gave it a second try but still found it very mid. Edible but flavorless.

I’ve been going to Border Grill for many years now. It just keeps getting better and better every time. The food is always tasty and fresh. The parking is easy in and out. The atmosphere is perfect inside and the staff is great and friendly. The prices have gone up but it’s expected with this economy, I’ll still pay to eat there.

The best part about our order was the fries...probably the last thing I thought I would ever write in a texmex review. Rice and beans were almost flavorless and portions were tiny (1/4cup at best). Mexican burger was ok. "enchiladas" the epitomy of sad, sad food. 1. This place doesn't have corn tortillas??? 2. It's cheese wrapped in a flour tortilla covered in chili. They served food on Styrofoam containers and disposables even though dining there (and yes they do have real plates and forks). Portions are small and food wasn't worth it. It's literally getting a 2 for the French fries.

Google
Food is seriously delicious, made to order and always fresh, real quality ingredients. Staff is super friendly and inviting and they deliver rather quickly and the gentleman who delivers, is always smiling, polite and very sweet, always. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would, all the way around!

Yelp
All 1 star reviewers should stick to Taco Bell. I travel for work to all major cities and by far they have the Best burrito in the state

Greg S.

Yelp
Quick grub, flavorful and the crew is friendly. Perfect place for all-american tex-mex. If you want the authentic mexican taco there's tons of trucks around- if you want decent american-ized tacos and enchiladas come here. The negative reviews come from braindead poor people who expect 2 lbs of food for their $8

Frank S.

Yelp
Food is excellent. I always get the chicken burrito! Costumer service is fast and very kind!

Adam S.

Yelp
Solid takeout spot for burritos, burgers and the lot. Staff is always friendly and food promptly prepared.

Yelp
Best chicken cheese quesadilla! It is my go to place when I am in a hurry to get food and have to return to work in Westport. Worth going back over and over again.

Tanisha D.

Yelp
TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!! I ordered basic shrimp quesadillas and they came so greasy, sloppy, undercooked and barely any flavor. Horrible horrible I'll never order here again. They took absolutely no pride in my order and it showed.

Tyler G.

Yelp
Took a gamble on this place with Grubhub and I don't think it is possible to be more disappointed. Also aim on the side of giving restaurants the benefit of the doubt, so know this isn't just me being negative. Got a chimichanga and it was the size of my fist, no sauce on it whatsoever, with a pile of black beans on the side and two slices of tomato. It was terrible. Gf got a taco salad that looked like a cafeteria lunch. It was all terrible, genuinely terrible. Don't get this place.

Joan H.

Yelp
This place used to be decent, but I ordered an enchilada recently that came with no sauce. NO SAUCE!!! I have never heard of an enchilada with no sauce. Dry as a bone, and dull as a board. Here is the Oxford Dictionary definition of an enchilada, "a rolled tortilla with a filling typically of meat and served with a chili sauce." CHILI SAUCE!!! Talk about being ripped off. Save your money and buy some flour tortillas, put some hamburger meat and shredded cheese in it, and roll it up. The end!

Lucienne B.

Yelp
What they call an enchilada is a small, chewy flour tortilla with some plain cheese in it and sloppy Joe style meat thrown on top. I definitely needed the knife to cut it.

Yelp
11/5/2021. We had lunch. The steak California Burrito was dry. The 3 enchiladas were ok. Rice was good. Didn't expect black beans. Chile was below average. Chips with chili were stale. Chips with burrito were fine. Everything served in takeout containers. Seating on stools along a 10 inch wide counter. Overall experience really below average.

Yelp
The best cheeseburgers out there, if you want a fun fast and high quality meal go to the Border grill. Everything is prepared fresh, high quality and the salads and chicken sandwiches are excellent. Made as you wait, fast, inexpensive high quality. We go here all the time for a super quick lunch that sits well in every respect. The owner is super nice as are the guys that happily work along side of him. They have been here since I was a kid, so they keep thriving. A staple here.. so glad that despite all the completion the solo business owner thrives. Go to Border grill next time you are craving a burger and fries, he will show you how it's done!

Yelp
OMG I LOVE Border Grill! We live a few towns away and I'm always begging my husband to bring me here when there are other well known Mexican restaurants in the area which I won't name. They're garbage in comparison if I'm being totally honest. Border Grill does it RIGHT. Their food is always fresh, always delicious and just ridiculously perfect. They have a variety of foods too so if you're with friends who aren't in the mood for Mexican they can get a burger and fries. They are a little pricey but I'm willing to pay a wee bit more for a freaking delicious lunch or dinner. I absolutely love how not everything is super spicy and heavily sprinkled with the devil's weed, cilantro. I HATE CILANTRO SO MUCH THAT I'M SWEATING ON THE INSIDE OF MY BODY JUST THINKING ABOUT IT. And if that makes me a stupid gringa, hey I don't give a rat's ass. I love simplicity. It's not boring to me personally. I respect simple and clean flavors. Their chicken is never gummy, tough, fatty or stupidly spicy. but it is flavorful and it has that grilled yummy smokiness. Staff is super friendly and accommodating. They make their own chips! Seating is soooo casual and I love that bc I have severe anxiety issues. Basically there are a few stools that overlook the window and street. Very comfortable atmosphere and also very cozy. If you fancy dining al fresco there are some benches and tables outside too. The chefs are so nice and incredibly talented, hard workers. I literally have nothing bad to say. Now I'm hungry.

Yelp
This place is a sad excuse for a Mexican place. I honestly think this is the worst mexican I've ever had as there was no authentic taste to it. I left two stars because the employees were courteous. The shrimp taco plate was literally two shrimps per taco with cilantro and tomato. Typically you atleast get lime with shrimp tacos, but these people either don't care or just don't know what they're doing by leaving their tacos so plain. They also gave a pinch of rice on the side with beans. The salsa? Straight out of a tostidos salsa jar and that was the only option available. Their food is definitely not cheap either. Do yourself a favor and go to senor salsa in Fairfield if you're looking for a quick mexican fix.

Eileen B.

Yelp
We are trying very hard to support our local restaurants during this difficult time but they have the responsibility of providing decent food. I tried this restaurant and I have NEVER had worse food I've ever had in my 20 years in Fairfield. The shrimp tacos had no taste, the instant rice had no flavor (much less get close to Spanish rice) and the beans, what was there, looked like they had been sitting in a pot for a couple of days. I'm guessing they provided about 1/4 cup of each. I'm not a picky eater but no one could eat this food. Threw this away as well as my money! Called to tell them and he hung up on me. Never again.

Alexandra C.

Yelp
Really nice service but holy moly the chicken burrito had like no flavor. It was the strangest thing...like none...not even the salsa helped. Ah, Mexican style food in Connecticut.

Lynn R.

Yelp
Aztec chicken salad is full of flavor. The salad is so large, I usually order with extra chicken! Good location right on the Post Road. Service is fast and people are friendly.

Jerrica J.

Yelp
Wow. By far the worst Tex/Mexican restaurant I've ever been to! The cashier lady looked like she came straight out of the Goonies movie. My boyfriend and I had to order gluten-free and vegan on our strict diet. She recommended the bean burrito (we opted for a "bowl" option. When our food was ready it came out in aluminum tin round container. We looked at our food in disgust but didn't say anything yet. We took a few bites and looked at each other. Food was separated into sections: Black beans straight out of a can Guacamole (more like faux guac out of a pasty tube?) Salsa/Pico De Gallo out of a jar. I think I am reminded it from Tostitos?! lol and rice from a box? OMG never again.

Jeremiah P.

Yelp
Great little taco spot. This review is only based on the hard-shell tacos. I always get the chicken or beef. They make them fast, and perfect every time. I noticed they make the hard-shells themselves, so you will probably never get a stale one. Tip: make sure you ask/pay for the sour cream. Only 25 cents to turn your tacos into nom nom nom tacos. They do have outside benches, sometimes it's a bit too hot in there. Step 1. Order taco Step 2. Throw some Cholula hot sauce on that bad boy. Step 3. Top with sour cream to hold/pack in all the tomatoes, lettuce, and cheese in there. Step 4. Nom nom nom nom nom.....

Yelp
Items off the Kids Menu are served at the right temperature, if your kids like blisters in their mouth. The only indoor seating is on stools 4 feet above the tile floor. Apple juice is extra, if your kids don't like fountain soda... great combo deal... not (best to go a la carte). The showcased item, the burrito, was mediocre. Oh yeah, and, it's cash only, but don't worry because there is an ATM in house at $1.75 per transaction. On the positive side, the chili was excellent for hot dogs and the kids liked the food after it cooled a good 10 minutes. Had the owner given me us one apple juice for the wasted two fountain sodas, I would have felt better about the experience. Wake up to customer service already.

Joe C.

Yelp
This is a small place serving quick Tex-Mex food on Route 1. The menu items are nothing special. My Santa Fe chicken sandwich was skimpy on the chicken and the french fries were average. You pay at the register and sit at any one of the several surrounding counters.

David R.

Yelp
This is a small place serving quick Tex-Mex food in a small shack. The menu items are nothing special really, nothing unique or different from other similar restaurants. You have to pay in cash and have the option of sitting outside or inside around a counter.

Charles A.

Yelp
The food was terrific, staff is friendly and helpful. Looking forward to them catering to our company next door.

W S.

Yelp
Great steak burrito with really good balance to the fillings - plenty of steak, which is key! It's a counter place with bar seating, no indoor tables. Nice staff and food was ready quick.

Peter D.

Yelp
Loved it. Very clean. Great flavor. Very authentic. Great menu. It's not the largest place in the world but all I want is great food. My ancestors would be proud to eat here. Big shock in CT :)

Alisa S.

Yelp
I can't rave about their main dishes BUT their CHURROS are FABULOUS!

Steven R.

Yelp
Stopped in for bite and was really pleased with everything. It's small, but not cramped. It's also clean. I had a Burrito which was tasty but not super filling. Complimented by some chips and salsa. Good value.

Michelle B.

Yelp
I have eaten the Taco platters and they were excellent! He has by far THE BEST Bacon Cheeseburger all around! It's a small shot, not meant to be a gourmet restaurant! Go here and you will be happy!

Phil R.

Yelp
To call Border Grill "fast-Mexican food" doesn't do it justice...plus they actually do free delivery any day of the week. Always love their Border Burger and the Chicken Ceasar Wrap...tasty and filling. My teens' 1st choice restaurant as far as Mexican...Bar Taco has become their 2nd, for two reasons: 1. Border Grill is a better value, and 2: Speedy but good service and friendly owner and employees! Glad they're in Westport...makes for a really yummy treat on those days you want to get out of the kitchen but not sacrifice great food...even the chicken tenders and fries can't be beat.

Arbitrary D.

Yelp
Relatively cheap fare that's decent if you know what to order. That said, I've only enjoyed the Border Burger, the Aztec Chicken Salad, and the Border Chicken Caesar salad. Tacos, Burritos, and Guac are subpar.

Gretchen E.

Yelp
I am so surprised by the negative reviews. I really enjoyed my lunch here. I ordered the Santa Fe Chicken sandwich and the chicken was moist, the toppings were fresh, and it was cooked to order. Great locally owned Tex-Mex. FYI: they only take cash.

Vonnie V.

Yelp
The owner works the register and does not greet or make eye contact with customers. He grunts acknowledgment of your order, which he gets wrong, and proceeds to lie about what you ordered when the order comes up wrong. He also refuses to refund the difference for providing the wrong, more expensive, order. And as his final confirmation of being completely devoid of any education or class, on the customers' way out, he screams expletives about them.

Nick R.

Yelp
border grill is a great spot for a quick and delicious meal for a fairly reasonable price. the people their are very nice and the food is superb. I live close by, so every time I am craving Mexican i stop by. when you first see border grill, you might get a little discouraged by the size. but don't worry, the flavors from this authentic restaurant are BIG. I personally recommend the steak taco plate. it goes great with the hot sauce they have. I could keep talking all day.

Michelle R.

Yelp
this place is great but the serve from the owner is very unprofessional..here is my biggest problem i order a chocolate chip cookie was given a peanut butter cookie with chocolate chip and was given a piece of cookie to my child with out noticing it had peanut butter which my child is allergic to end up in the hospital with him call them to informed them that i was sent the wrong cookie and basic the OWNER said it my fault because i did not look at the cookie before given it to my child.. i think as a owner to a good place he should inform people of what they are getting not just send what they have... and i come from a family that has own restaurants.then i was told never to call them again so they will not be call from me at all....
