8 Restaurants Defining Tucson’s Food Scene Right Now - AFAR

"An immersive culinary and cultural tour that traces Tucson’s indigenous ingredients from the desert to the table, offering hands-on education about foraged plants and traditional preparation techniques. Guests taste handmade tortillas made with locally grown wheat and chiltepins picked right off the vine, sample other ancestral foods, and learn how Indigenous agricultural practices and sustainability efforts continue to shape the region’s food identity. The experience emphasizes stories, traditions, and the living heritage behind Tucson’s gastronomy rather than just food sampling." - AFAR

The taco tour of Nogales, Sonora was fun and most importantly delicious 🤤 Alex was a great guide who provided meaningful insights on the history of the area while we walked from restaurant to restaurant! I would love to go again and eat even more if that’s possible. Highly recommended!

This is a very informative tour of our neighboring Nogales. Alex is a wealth of knowledge and a magnificent tour guide. We visited three restaurants during the tour and each showed the unique culture of our neighboring town. We felt very safe and were treated with the utmost hospitality. I would recommend the Borderlandia Taco Tour to any one interested in the culture, history and traditional food of Mexico!!

TKS Alex, we had a wonderful day trip to Magdalena yesterday with you. It was a great introduction to Mexico through Nogales. It was wonderful to see the workers working in the areas to make it beautiful for the visitors. Thank you for all your hard work to promote knowledge between our two nations. Highly recommend it!

An altogether enchanting and fulfilling immersion in the history and culture of Sonora. Brilliantly organized and carefully curated by host Alex Lapierre, we enjoyed seven days of delicious food, beautiful vistas in charming places - like San Carlos; the exquisite murals, friendly residents and the fascinating exhibits of the Yaqui museum in Cocorít, the narrow streets and parks of Alamos, and the exuberance and sophistication of Hermosillo. A particular highlight was the three nights spent at the magical Hotel en La Naturaleza, El Pedregal, not only a bird watcher’s paradise but also home to the mariposa de cuatro espejos!

We thoroughly enjoyed our Bacanora trip with Alex and Borderlandia! The experience was expertly organized and the perfect cadence- not too rushed or too slow, with great commentary and excellent travel partners. We felt that we had a special and secret glimpse into a part of Sonora rarely seen, with artisanal producers and amazing food in small valley towns. On the other hand, we also saw the surprising growth and up-and-coming culinary scene of Hermosillo. I encourage anyone curious about Sonora to take a trip with Borderlandia.
