This Popular San Fernando Valley Sephardic Pastry Shop Is on a Bold Expansion Run | Eater LA

"Started as a Sherman Oaks takeout window in 2022, this location opened in early April as the third outlet after a Van Nuys outpost was added in May 2024. People file in for borekas — a flaky, savory, Sephardic pastry with roots in Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, and Turkey — and the Woodland Hills location also offers outdoor seating plus a retail shelf for diners to take home items like clarified butter, seasonings, and wildflower honey. Owners Gal and chef Uzi Waizman expanded the drinks menu beyond Turkish coffee to include lattes, espressos, and more; Chef Uzi tells Eater that they will add special borekas, including a current variety with carrots from his home garden. Open daily from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m." - Mona Holmes

Google
My first time having a borekas and damn it’s good! I usually go for anything truffle but the spinach and cheese is the best I think. So buttery.

Google

Google
If you’re looking for the best borekas in town, look no further! The borekas here are incredible — perfectly crispy on the outside and warm, flaky, and flavorful on the inside. You can really taste the quality in every bite. But what makes this place truly special is the people. The owner and the team are so friendly, welcoming, and passionate about what they do. You can feel the love they put into their food and their service. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to come back again and again — not just for the food, but for the atmosphere and the people behind it. Highly recommended!

Google
Wowwww!!wowww!!woww!! The best borekas I’ve ever tasted!!! So fresh and delicious. The team was so kind and generous, they gave use some tips which is elevated our experience to another level. Highly recommended!!!! They’re definitely got my five stars.

I recently had the pleasure of using this restaurant’s catering service for my workplace, and it was absolutely outstanding! The food was incredibly delicious, and they were so generous with the portions—everyone was completely satisfied and impressed. After such a great experience, I decided to take my son to their Woodland Hills location for lunch, and once again, they exceeded expectations. The spinach bourekas were perfectly crispy on the outside and melted in our mouths. Every bite was full of flavor, and the service was just as warm and welcoming. Highly recommend both their catering and in-restaurant dining. I’ll definitely be coming back

Google
Let me tell you, this is the best; most scrumptious, Borekas you’ll ever put in your mouth! I don’t know what kind of magic they’re working with, but it’s absolutely MAGICAL! I had the cheese one, sprinkled with zaatar, and I can’t wait till next time! 10 out of 10! Keep up the amazing work and unbeatable service.

Google
Delicious Sephardic Pastries. Amazing Cultured Cheese & Za’atar! I stopped by, order to go. Tasteful décor.

Google
Their food is absolutely delicious, and their borekas are the best I've ever tasted. The flaky pastry is perfect, and the fillings are always generous and flavorful. I've tried their spinach and cheese potato, and onion truffle I like the most they're all amazing. The service is always friendly and welcoming, and the prices are very reasonable. If you're a fan of borekas, you need to try Borekas! They're the perfect snack or meal, and they're sure to satisfy your cravings. Highly recommend!"

Yelp
I love Borekas. I've been to all locations but so happy to have the Woodland Hills location since it's closer. I love the spinach and cheese borekas. I actually bought the Za'atar and always add extra to my borekas. It's a little pricey for a smaller portion but it is the best Borekas in LA so it's worth it! This location has plenty of parking and a small seating area.

Yelp
Great service and amazing food I don't think that there is a better comfort food then borekas Try the margarita

Yelp
This was my first time going to the Woodland Hills location. They occupy a small standalone building in retail strip. There is plenty of parking and outside seating. I got each of the 3 standard borekas options. Spinach & cheese, truffle, mushrooms & onions and potato and brown butter. They come with pickles, jammy eggs and tasty tomato and spicy condiments. I also got the Marguerita borekas, which came with a 1000 islander dressing instead of the tomato jam. Their borekas have a flaky crispy exterior and flavorful fillings. A bite of the borekas with the spicy and tomato sauces, and a little pickle and a bit of the jammy egg make a perfect bite. This is a great go to place for a quick and satisfying snack or meal.

Yelp
Freshly made, savory, flakey pastries with a variety of fillings. We had the truffle mushroom and the potatoe borekas. Really enjoyed it!

Yelp
I really enjoyed this spot. I went with cheese and zataar boreka and it was very delicious. Crispy on the outside, with soft, savory cheese on the inside, this Israeli pastry just hit the spot. It was accompanied by yummy pickles and egg and the tomato-based dipping sauce for the boreka was amazing. A young lady working there was very attentive and nice, told me about the menu and then brought my food to the back patio, so I could enjoy my food while cool Israeli pop songs were playing in the background. The place itself is small, but the outdoor patio is pretty comfortable, with 5-6 tables for dining. Will definitely come again!

Yelp
I have never had a sephardic pastry before. For a while now, this place has become my absolute favorite and I can't wait to eat here whenever I can. It is truly like no other. Any of the borekas, you wont go wrong with. The basic cheese and zaatar is however simple, yet amazing. Also The staff is so kind and were so helpful with any questions i had.

Yelp
Finally got around to trying this spot! I keep driving by and remind myself to try it out haha! Love that it's in a shopping center - parking is completely available. It's also right by a gas station. I went in and there was someone before me, she was more wandering around with her eyes seeing the menu or waiting for her kids to check out the menu. I was also doing the same and asked the lady that worked there some questions about them and got the spinach and cheese and the Margherita. I got them to go, and got home and tried them. They were perfectly flaky, good amount of filling, and it was flavorful. They are pretty pricey but not too bad! It is pretty small on the inside, no seating, but there were some tables and chairs outside.

Yelp
These are so tasty and addicting! Small menu with specialty borekas. They are stuffed puff pastry that are really to die for. They have a few regular flavors and some rotating. I like them all! The portion size for 1 is just enough to be satisfied but I always order 1.5 per person so that we have enough. Great for sharing as they are cut into lots of pieces so you can try a few flavors. For what they are I think they are a bit expensive but always fun to go there. This location has better seating than the one in Sherman oaks and better parking. They serve you pretty fast and there was no line when I went. Inside was very small and it's really only an ordering counter.

Yelp
The food here is very tasty, a unique pastry experience. The woman helming the front is very helpful and very friendly. She recommended I try the margherita borekas which were very tasty, as she said. I later came back to try the fungi, onion, & truffle and the spinach & cheese flavors, and they were also very good. I haven't had much exposure to Sephardic cuisine as my Jewish friends growing up have been predominantly Ashkenazi and Mizrahi, so I was really excited to try borekas. I can't wait to come back later to try their dessert!

Yelp
We picked up some borekas for lunch this weekend and they truly hit the spot. We ordered the Zaatar and Fungi Borekas. Both flavors perfectly crispy, flaky, and delicious. Each bite was elevated by the accompanying sauce, pickles, and eggs that completed the meal beautifully. This was my first time visiting this location, and I was impressed by the friendly staff, inviting ambiance, and ample parking within the shopping center. I'll definitely be returning to try more.

Yelp
This place has takeout written all over it. For a grab and go place to be memorable, means the food holds its own, without assistance from the atmosphere and service. It does and is comparable with Tito's Tacos in Venice. Who goes there to stay? No, Borekas is a place to pickup and dine casually at your house. Basically, the food alone stands out and this place has three locations in the valley. All with loyal following and all doing well. I highly recommend delivery or takeout and you won't be disappointed.

Carolina E.

Yelp
I've had their spinach cheese and their potato borekas and they were fantastic. I love this place because you can taste how fresh the food is, the cashier was very friendly and helpful. I have already come back a few times since my first visit. Recommend !

Yelp
Absolutely out of this world and incredible!! We got the cheese borekas, absolutely delicious with such perfect texture and flavor balance. Even the pickles were delicious. It's insanely expensive, so we can't come often, but I wish we could.

Yelp
Run don't walk! This was my first time trying a Boreka. Where have I been? OMG they were out of this world delicious! It's fun to order a bunch of different flavors to try them out. We had the spinach/cheese, potato/onion and the mushroom truffle. It's a very small place with some outdoor seating in the back. No seating inside. Service was excellent! They have a great selection of Borekas. Savory & sweet. Everything was so fresh. They also sell a hot honey which adds a nice sweet and spicy flavor to different dishes at home. I will definitely be back soon! 10/10

Yelp
One of the best cafes in Woodland Hills. Loved my spinach boreka and mint lemonade. The pickles, eggs and tomato sauce were the nicest compliment. Everything was delicious! Great new addition to Ventura Blvd.

Yelp
Breakfast is something I try not to miss , so what I usually do is order items in Doordash . One time a colleague of mine told me to try Borekas. Pleasantly surprised I saw this shop that sells Borekas. Borekas are a popular baked pastry, particularly in Sephardic Jewish and Israeli cuisine. They are essentially stuffed pastries, with fillings ranging from cheese and spinach to potatoes, mushrooms, and even pizza toppings. They are served with jammy eggs, pickles, and dipping sauces. I suggest you try the Margherita )Pizza Borekas). Fungi, Onion & Truffle Borekas and of course the Moroccan Carrots and Hot honey Borekas. I haven't been to their shop, but the pastries are a must try.

Lina P.

Yelp
I got the spinach & cheese and the onion & truffle borekas and they were spectacular. The service was fairly quick, I ordered and it took them maybe 10-15 min to bring me my order (to go). It came with one boiled egg, pickles, shug and puréed tomato pulp. **THE EGGS HERE ARE OUTSTANDING, COOKED TO PERFECTION** While I did enjoy my plate, sometimes i find myself craving just the boiled egg that comes with it. I wish they had the option to buy like a pack of 4 or something (you CAN buy an extra egg with your order though!) I will be coming back

Steph P.

Yelp
4.5 stars. Really good and flaky pastry! . Where they get dinged a bit is the price, esp for a super casual spot with only outdoor tables that aren't cleaned, no restroom, and honestly you'll need two if you're planning to have this as a meal. Had the fungi onion and the brown butter potato. Both amazing. It's really more pastry and the filling doesn't have as big of an impact, esp with the chili sauce. The pickles are good and the soft egg executed well. I do wish they had options with like ground beef & onion, or a more tomato sausage based one. All that being said, I will be back!

Yelp
Great kosher food. Amazing ambiance If you're looking for the best borekas in Woodland Hills, this place is an absolute hidden gem! Fresh, flaky, and baked to perfection -- every bite feels like pure comfort. They have a great variety too, from classic cheese to mushroom and spinach, and each one is packed with flavor. The staff is super friendly and welcoming, and the service is always quick, even when they're busy. You can really tell they use high-quality ingredients. Definitely my go-to spot whenever I'm craving something savory and satisfying. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Excellent food really taste homemade delicious not a diet food or something you want to eat before you go to the gym but definitely something you wanna enjoy in the morning or maybe late afternoon (if there's any left, they really run out sometimes it's crazy people love this place. It's good food great service and the location is phenomenal. Too bad there's a little bit noise with the parking level.. Good food.

Yelp
The four pastries I ordered were dryer than the Sahara desert. I can't believe this place is still open! What in the world is this nonsense??? Ahhh my tastebuds hurt

Yelp
My favorite place for quick breakfast! Amazing atmosphere, accompanied with Israeli music and stunning design. This location the most beautiful so fa!!! Service is always welcoming and warm. Borecas itself... Crispy, flaky, full of filling. I Like all of the flavors.. But listen to me, Margherita, Spinach and Chocolate are my favorites for all the times (But note, on Sunday don't think twice, go there earlier to make sure you'll try em. They took

Yelp
So fresh, authentic, delicious. It's a small, bustling Israeli gem in LA. Their borekas are simple and next level. The flavors are perfection and the sides complete the dish. The menu is filled with options you can't go wrong.

Roei S.

Yelp
The spinach and feta cheese borekas is the best pastry I ever had. Great service and amazing atmosphere overall. Higher recommended!!!

Yelp
Best spot in LA for Pastries and more. Love the high quality ingredients they use. Customer service is excellent. Major plus they are closed on Shabbat! Definitely support this business!

Yelp
"I'm obsessed with Borekas! Their food is absolutely delicious, and their borekas are the best I've ever tasted. The flaky pastry is perfect, and the fillings are always generous and flavorful. Yelp
Best borekas ever. Perfectly paired with tomato sauce to balance the salty cheese in the borekas. A MUST try, highly highly highly recommended.

Topaz M.

Yelp
My first time ever trying this place and I didn't know what to pick. Shenhav the girl at the front was extremely kind and helped explain what each pastry had. I ended up picking the mushroom burekas and the cheese and spinach. Great experience overall and I'll be back again!

M Louis T.

Yelp
Food is well made and extremely fresh. Get there early or the number of choices will be quickly diminished. The truffle and potato is a favorite. Not cheap but well worth the price.

Mark A.

Yelp
Amazing food, great service and great people. It's my favorite place to eat a pastry in the morning. They always come up with new flavors and it's always fun to come and try something new. Highly recommended!

Daryn F.

Yelp
Like the Sherman Oaks location, amazing food and tremendous service. But we all know it's about the food. :-) My favorites are potato & brown butter and chocolate, but you can't go wrong with anything. B'tayavon!

Fabienne M.

Yelp
Very delicious cheese borekas! The dough is very flaky. The cheese is creamy and light. The spices are delicious. It is served with a hard boiled egg that still is soft in the center with zaatar. Even the side crushed tomato pulp is delicious. $14 is absolutely a bargain for this high-quality meal.

Dan G.

Yelp
Delicious. 15 dollar pastry delicious? No. Food: 5 stars Value: 1 star. 14.00 for an big pastry is obscene.

Avi A.

Yelp
If I had to choose one breakfast /brunch to eat for the rest of my life it's will definitely be borekas!! Always great service and atmosphere. Thank you guys for being awesome.

Drake S.

Yelp
Been to the Sherman Oaks and Van Nuys location multiple times. It really feels like Borekas is upping their game. The place looks and feels amazing when you walk in. The food is perfection, per usual. When I visited after it first opened, I would've given a 4 star because it is a little annoying figuring out how to get food or know when the food is ready. But then they installed the intercom and it's really smoothed out the process of just being able to go sit down at the table while waiting. I literally can't wait until they open one up with sit down inside.

Enriqueg G.

Yelp
Great customer service & amazing food! Nothing but good things to say about this place!! The pinukim and chocolate ones are to die for :) 10/10 would recommend.

Corina V.

Yelp
I tried them today. Had the spinach and cheese boreka. It was warm and delicious, highly recommend for breakfast or a snack

Jake S.

Yelp
Terrible food and terrible service. Beware. Quality is horrible. Place is a joke. Won't last

Denise R.

Yelp
Delicious spinach and cheese barekas and barekas pudding. Pleasant staff. Food came up quickly. Will come back to try the coffees and the other barekas flavors.

Steven S.

Yelp
Not good at all! Very fat I was there last week and didn't like it at all. It didn't taste like a good Borekas. If you want a really good one overseas go to the Agala! Here I am not sure what it is but definitely far from a good Borekas!!!!

Yarden J.

Yelp
so happy they finally opened in Woodland Hills! Their outdoor seating area is so nice and the service is quick and amazing! Their iced Nescafé is unparalleled and, of course, the Borekas is as tasty as ever!!! I really recommend the margherita and the pinukim specials!
