We spent a rainy afternoon at Borghese to try their classic flight and what an experience, from start to finish! We were greeted by Herbie..he definitely runs the place! 🐶 Not only was the flight delicious but we were given the family's backstory and each wine told a history that is imperative to understanding Borghese and their values, not just as a vineyard but as a legacy that has been created. We truly enjoyed the time spent here and will definitely be back! Grazie! 💜

Small winery with a beautiful outdoor area- visited on the 1st day of our two day tour. Allows outside food which is also great seeing many wineries in area don't. We tried an effervescent rose- a new wine for us and we thought it was a unique taste. Glad we gave it a try!

Google
We meant to take a ferry to block island, but ended up in Long Island. However it was meant to be, had the best wine and best customer service from everyone at the winery. Giovani was a stand out on the tour! I suggest everyone stop in and try the wine then buy a bottle.

This was a very sweet small vineyard. We had to stop at the big "Pinot Noir" sign after biking past during other vineyard tours. It’s a smaller place but the open outdoor setting was nice. It’s not exactly 100% shaded; they use those shade sails that let the light filter through a little bit. This was lovely and much better suited to the setting that if they had several big umbrellas that would block the view of the vineyards. They were very attentive to us and asked if we wanted pretzels and water. The wine was very good, and, although it was sweet of our host to bring out pretzels and waters, she brought out individual bottles of water. And I just prefer to reduce my plastic consumption, so it would’ve been nice if we had glasses with a pitcher of water instead. Although I know that would be extra dishes for her to wash. I know this is a small complaint, but perhaps something to consider for the future. Oh, and the person delivering our wine to the table was good enough to take our group photo and had a great sense of humor. Some people are grumpy about taking photos or rushed, but they were lovely about it and made us all smile and laugh. We only bike the North Fork with these close friends every other year, so the photos are special. The staff/experience/setting holds equal importance to us on these special trips as the wine itself.

Go here. I can't recommend this strongly or loudly enough, but everyone should go here. This is a beautiful location, inside and out. The terracotta floors, the tasting room and event room hand made and designed by the owner and staff. The art from local, award winning artists and up and comers alike hanging from the walls. The outside pavilion with a gorgeous view of the vines themselves. We intended to spend the morning here and instead stayed from open to close. The staff and owner were so warm and welcoming, we just didn't want to leave! The owner, Giovanni, has lived such an interesting and exciting life, and if you get the chance to go on the tour and listen to the story, I highly recommend it. You can really tell the people who work here are passionate about their jobs and want nothing more than to continue cultivating the wonderful community of wine lovers they've developed. Even if the wine wasn't great, this place would still be worth a visit. Luckily, the wine is amazing. The Cab Franc is to die for, their Allegro dessert wine is stunning, and I could drink their rose blend all day long. So, I reiterate: go here. You won't regret it.

Google
Wonderful red wines!! Some of the best reds we’ve ever had on Long Island. We loved the Cab Franc and Merlot, and the Pinots were also quite good. Lovely staff as well and welcoming tasting room. Would definitely go back!!

Google
We stayed one night in the large field as a member of harvest hosts. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there, the kindness of the host, as well as his staff, and his little dog too! J/K, he isn't little. The wine was also very good quality. Much thanks to Borghese Vineyard for being a part of HH; it means so much to us RVers. Salute!

Google
Had a wonderful experience at Borghese. If you want serious history, long-running family ownership, tight-knit staff, beautiful grounds, warm hospitality, and great wine... fit Borghese into your plans. Evie went above and beyond on our tour, leaving us feeling like we really knew the place and its people. The wines were excellent, with huge range and consistent quality. And Herbie (the official greeter) is a 10/10 good dog who will do anything for a pretzel. We'll be back!

Yelp
Fantastic wine (best Cab Franc on Long Island), great service, and a great atmosphere. What more can you ask for?

Yelp
Great North Fork winery that features some great reds. Our favorites were the select Merlot, which was nice and jammy and tasted great with red sauce. Our other favorite is their merlot-cab sauv blend, which has a nice red fruit taste and earthy tones. The vinyard itself is very low-key and open. There are also two really cool dogs on the property who are super friendly. Staff is always super helpful and friendly. Price wise, everything is very affordable for a winery. Cheers!

Yelp
Great wine, great atmosphere. Dog friendly with Herbie the house dog welcoming guests. You can brimg your own food.

Yelp
Castello di Borghese is what is known as the Founding Vineyard on the North Fork of Long Island. It is the first vineyard and winery on Long Island (though in the past it was not called Castello di Borghese, it was originally called Hargrave Vineyard and family owned). It is still family owned, now by the Borghese family. Long Island wine is very popular --- on Long Island. A hundred miles west, in NYC... you can not find a bottle for sale. One can find a bottle of wine from Texas but not Long Island. I am not super knowledge of the economics of wine but I can tell you that Long Island wine is very expensive... as is the land the vines grow from. A reasonably good bottle of Sauvignon Blanc from Long Island will cost you over 30 bucks - sold to you directly by the winery. While a reasonably good bottle of Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand will cost you under 10 bucks - sold to you by a wine shop. I bought a bottle of Borghese 2022 Sauvignon Blanc a few weeks ago. It cost me 36 bucks. It was a very good white wine. I enjoyed it. But compared to the price...eh maybe not so great. I assume this wine would cost close to 100 bucks in a NYC restaurant. Not an easy sale. Anyway Borghese is a nice winery right off route 48, otherwise known as the north road. Service is knowledgable and fast. Ambiance is a bit old world and if you are lucky you will be greeted at the door by Herbie, a very large and friendly black Labrador dog.

Yelp
They don't produce ice wine here but they recommended a dessert wine. It was good but not I was looking for. Also, yoga and wine sounded like a fun, last minute combo from their signage but that was at 1030 AM and I was at this place at about 230 PM. Staff was friendly and liked my lego tshirt because of its art, attitude, and her kids had legos she would kind of trip over too. This shirt is mentioned in one of my Porto reviews last year too.

Yelp
4 yums We are a party of 4 this was our first time but our friends have been here before. We were greeted immediately and felt quite happy to be here. The outside seating was cozy and comfy. We overlooked the vineyard and we were able to bring our own snacks which is nice. We got the tasting flights which were great. We will return!

Yelp
Wish I could give this place more stars. This is my favorite vineyard in Long Island. It's so cute and understated and the service is what makes it more so than anything else. Everyone here is so unbelievably nice. And that's something people would say is maybe hard to find in the state of New York. Maybe. But seriously. This place is worth it. We went to three vineyards all around the north fork and this place had the best wines and service. Wish we could have even stayed longer but I'm not sure when they close (I think it's maybe on the earlier side). Other pros were a local bakery pop up WITH vegan items - rare. And a great dog that greeted us as we walked in. 10/10 if you want just a great day drinking wine day with pals or family.

Yelp
Super friendly service! We brought our own food & enjoyed a tasting and a glass of Rose. The Rose Merlot was our favorite. Thanks for a great experience!

Yelp
Pre covid review: Bottom line: heavily awarded apparently. Wine is pretty good. Gluten line: wine is gluten free, crackers are not. Long line: took a while to get service. Could it be cause we were dressed in workout attire as we biked here, or because it was semi packed? I'm hoping the latter. Once we got service things went smooth. We tried their suggested sampling and found all of the wines to be well made. Nothing crazy outstanding for our palate, but enjoyable. Wouldn't really run back.

Yelp
Wine was very good. Cab Franc excellent. Tastings was okay. I didn't like the presentation of the tasting. cheap plastic cups brought out in a white plastic tray. Totally did not go with the Italian theme. Turned off by presentation. Atmosphere was dark inside. Again no Italian culture displayed. employees pleasant. building cold and unwelcoming.

Yelp
What a great time ! Came here for a tasting with friends. Did the five glass tasting . Enjoyed the Chardonnay the most. Highly recommend a visit to this vineyard. Staff was super nice and accommodating. They had a nice selection of snacks to pair with the flight we had. Cheese and salamis
google avatar

Yelp
Came here for a tasting and found out it's the oldest winery on Long Island! Did the 5 glass flight of 2 whites, 1 rose & 2 reds. Really enjoyed their red blend, even my husband (who doesn't love wine and really dislikes red wine) enjoyed it so we grabbed a bottle to take home. The outdoor space is simple like the inside, and the staff is really welcoming -- highly recommend :)

Yelp
Stopped here during our trip to Greenport...what a great place!!! The Rosé was on point! Bill was knowledgeable, and friendly! Not pretentious, down to earth, and offered suggestions based on our likes. We had a lovely time conversing and enjoying the tasting room . Stop by! You won't be disappointed !!

Yelp
Nice outside gardens and lovely girl who was very helpful in picking out the sweetest wine for me. I loved the Allegra 2017. The other wines were too dry for me. BF and daughter liked the blends but $50 seemed a little much for a bottle of NY wine. We aren't in Napa. This region is developing slowly but it's not quite there yet as far as sophistication and price.

Yelp
What better way to end a morning of picking one type of fruit than to drink another? Well, it's important to know that I am and will always be more of a beer drinker than wine. But yesterday at Castello di Borghese, I may have grown a little more appreciation for vino. Coming on a Wednesday afternoon was perfect timing as the vineyard was literally empty for most of our stay. It was as if the place was our own private winery. We entered the building to notice a very calm yet classy feel. Artwork on display straight ahead in the barn area with a little bar to the right, surely for those busy weekend days. To the left is the tasting room with bottles upon bottles against the wall as well as a glass case showing off some bling for awards won. Tastings were done by 3/4 of my group (as the driver, I chose to take a few sips from different people). $15 gets you five choices which seemed a little steep (especially for the tiny pour), but quality did pretty well in making up for it. The staff member poring our tastes was friendly and knowledgeable in explaining each wine chosen. Favorites were definitely the Fleurette Rosé and Rosé of Merlot, 2014 Riesling, and Afterglow. Each one really tasted like it was crafted with time and understanding of wine, which makes sense as CdB is one of the oldest vineyards on the isle. Once the tasting was complete, we purchased a couple bottles of the Fleurette and headed out the side door to sit amongst the vines. Plenty of tables, and the ability to bring our own food (during the week perks) rounded out a great time. Overall, CdB shows why it's been treating Long Islanders with fine wine for quite some time. Through great flavors and a beautiful vineyard, I might just say this is my favorite winery (which means a lot coming from this beer maven).

Yelp
Most of the Northfork wineries have good people in then. Borghese goes above and beyond. They all take turns making their patrons feel at home. Regina started with us and was a complete pleasure to be with. She knows her wine, she has a super sense of humor, and she has a positive energy flowing from her. You just want to hang around her only. All i need is the Merlot and the Afterglow wines. Regina shared the 50/50 Merlot/ Cab....it was a nice smooth blend of flavors. She really gets around to different groups even tho we wanted to keep her!

Yelp
This winery has a lovely homey yard great for bringing your own picnic and sampling their wines at the same time . Very friendly service. Wine is ok.

Yelp
Amazing vineyard, super friendly staff (especially Tom!!!! Honestly Tom gets his own 5 stars from my family and I). Super cool vibes and super chill. They have two standard tastings, Classic ($30, included 2 reds, 2 whites, and 2 rosés) and Red ($45). We had a dog so unfortunately, we weren't able to sit inside, we were able to sit outside! Will definitely recommend to others.

Yelp
Did the tour & wine tasting, highly recommend. The story behind this vineyard makes you appreciate the place even more. Really nice wines and friendly staff. Will be back again!

Yelp
Let's just go over a few of the superlatives* at Borghese: Oldest Winery on Long Island: This one. Best Wine: Pinot Noir (2013). Best Ears: Brix the Dog. Best Way of Explaining Her Name: Aylor (it's Taylor without the T). Best Kisser: Brix the Dog. Biggest Surprise of The Tasting: Me liking the merlot (2010) AND the dessert wine. Crazy. Most Likely to Be Petted: Brix the Dog. Nicest Host: Evie. Cutest Couple: Peter D & Brix the Dog. Best Part of the Experience: Brix the Dog. Best Everything Ever: Brix the Dog. _______________ *These results were compiled through at least 1,000 surveys of individuals. In some countries, oversamples are collected in major cities or areas of special interest. Additionally, in some large countries, such as China and Russia, sample sizes of at least 2,000 are collected. Although rare, in some instances the sample size is between 500 and 1,000. The previous sentences were complete bullshit.

Yelp
Always a great time and experience at CdB Vineyard and Winey. This is a beautiful location and winery that also produces some of the best Pinot Noirs and Chards on the East End. Evie, the tasting room manager, along with her team always make you feel welcome and are just packed with knowledge of the East End. The tasting room is big with plenty of seating and a big room for events. I've been here for art shows and Jazz concerts, this is a perfect venue. There selection of wine is perfect, Pinot Noirs, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnays, blends and a terrific dessert wine, Alegra. There is also ample seating outside too. This makes CdB a complete year round destination spot. There is a food truck outside for light snacks and salads. Make sure you check out their wine clubs. Makes it easy to stock your shelves with New York NoFo wine which you will only hear good things about.

Yelp
This was probably my favorite stop on our day long winery tour. Everything here was so relaxed, picnic style, "come as you are end enjoy some wine with us" vibe. We had picked up sandwiches at a nearby deli and camped out in some lawn chairs they had set up by the grapes. There were also picnic benches in the shade for those of you who melt in the sun). On our own time, you meander into the small barn to sign up for a tasting. And when I say small barn, I mean, it actually just kept getting bigger and bigger as they have a beatiful gallery and event space that would be a perfect setting for a wedding reception of 100+. EVERYONE there is so excited you're there and ready to do whatever it takes to make your wine tasting experience even better. The Tastings: 2012 Sauvignon Blanc: 3.5/5 stars. Grapefruit nose; steel, grapefruit, lemon, new lawn taste. Sweet without reaching "riesling" status, slightly oaky flavor on the finish. $24/bottle. 2012 Chardonnay: 2.5/5 stars. I am a chardonnay person and hold these wines to the highest esteem. I was not impressed. Very tart, very acidic and unenjoyable. $18/bottle. Our Wine Tasting Guide noticed my reaction and admitted he had felt the same and offered to give me a sample of their "upgraded chardonnay." 2012 Chardonnay Barrel Fermented: 5/5 stars. Now THIS is a chardonnay! You can practically smell the butter wafting into the air while it's being poured. The chardonnay was so smooth, oaky and buttery just as a good chardonnay should be. If you're wanting an amazing chardonnay in New York, this is a must buy. $20/bottle. 2012 Pinot Noir: 3.5/5 stars. This was drier than I was expecting for a pinot with a very heavy berry flavor (black/raspberry; black cherry). There is a slight woody hint that would make this perfect for dinner wine. $30/bottle. 2008 Merlot: 3.5/5 stars. This merlot was very smooth with a vanilla nose and a blackberry/cherry taste. You can taste the cedar, but it's not overpowering which makes this very drinkable for wine-enthusiasts and wine-newbies alike. $20/bottle. 2011 Cabernet Franc: 3.75/5 stars. Bourdeaux blended, this wine was so pleasing to drink. Fruity here, floral there with a quick hint of pepper at the finish to spice it up. I would drink this wine year round. $30/bottle. 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon: 4/5 stars. Much more acidic than the rest, yet still lighter than I was prepared for. The black currant flavor is very powerful and subdues any blackberry and tanin flavors. I would love to throw this bottle in a decantur and enjoy over dinner with friends. $29/bottle. 2007 Merlot Reserve: 3.75/5 stars. This wine was very cherry forward with a hint of berry flavor to finish. There is no smokiness to this wine, just smooth all around. (wine price not listed at time of tasting). 2010 Pinot Noir Barrel Fermented: 4/5 stars. This is their Gold Medal Wine! Get it while it lasts.. This Pinot is bold and rich in flavors of heavy berries (black berries, currants, etc). This wine is SMOKEY. It is very smooth on the nose and during the initial taste, but will rock your socks on the finish. My husband would have been bananas for this wine. This is the wine I want with my next duck or steak dinner! $55/bottle. Overall, I had a great time enjoying company of strangers on the lawn; the hospitality of the vineyard staff; serenity of the vineyard. I would definitely make the trek back to Cutchogue for this winery.

Yelp
Celebrated my 30th birthday here with a group of 20+. Evie and the Castello di Borghese family went out of their way to make my party feel welcome and we all had an amazing time! They made me personalized menus and even bought out the dog to play. Out of all the wineries we went to that day in the North Fork, they were the most attentive and took their time to explain their company and wines. I wish we could have stayed longer!
google avatar

Meg P.

Yelp
I highly recommend the wine and atmosphere at Castello di Borghese! It's a beautiful vineyard that distinguishes itself from its neighbors because of its rich history. For instance, Castello di Borghese has the oldest Chardonnay vines in the region and is the only local vineyard to produce Pinot noir. While many vineyards have automatized production, Giovani Borghese (owner and vintner) bottles all of the wine by hand with the help of his small and experienced staff. After taking a tour and tasting the wine, it's clear that the Borghese's are focused on quality and cultivating a family atmosphere. I'm really excited to see what ideas Giovani has in store for the New Year and suggest making a trip to check it out for yourself. It's a great spot any time of year!

Drew A.

Yelp
Had a really great tasting experience here on our latest tour through the North Fork. Evie and her staff tell the story of their wines and the region so well, you can't help but fall in love with the place... and then you taste the wine! There's something for everyone here; pinot noir, merlot, rosé, chardonnay, riesling, sauvignon blanc, cabernet franc, dessert wine and more. You'll find something you like, guaranteed. There are indoor tables for winter tastings and a nice outdoor area for when it warms up a bit. Take some extra time, bc there are some fun art exhibits in the barn area. Check their webpage for rotating exhibits and activities like winemaker walks & tours. It's the oldest winery on LI, but certainly hasn't been left behind. Can't wait to stop back in! Bonus: Brix, the winery dog, is a friendly fella
google avatar

Yelp
Good solid winery. Offers tours of the winery and cellars for $20 (includes a tasting) - a little overpriced in my opinion. Wines here are good but not great. Didn't find them to be pretentious at all, but rather friendly. Marco - one of the owners told us he tried to grow Sangiovese here - but no luck. That was apparant when we tried a Sangiovese at another winery. Blech! Not my favorite but would definitely recommend!
google avatar

Melissa B.

Yelp
The first vines ever planted in Long Island, wow! This was the main reason of paying this winery a visit during our personal winery tour. It was a simple, unassuming environment with chairs and small table tops right in front of the vines. During COVID there was not much to offer in terms of food. This could be a positive or a negative depending on how you look at it. It was nice because we didn't have to buy a whole meal just to try their acclaimed Pinot noir. I wonder why they serve their wines in plastic cups though. I think I would have enjoyed it better in a wine glass, but I guess that is the type of simple environment they want to create.
google avatar

L P.

Yelp
Despite the fact that I thought their wine was good, I liked this tasting room least. We came on a quiet day and interrupted a meeting. The workers didn't acknowledge us and didn't come to help us. We waited about 5 minutes and thought they must be closed and started to leave. Only then did someone help us. No apologies, just very flat, disengaged service. I felt uncomfortable the entire time there. I was happy to leave. Other tasting rooms were more hospitable and just nicer.

Yelp
I come here for Mother's Day! Birthdays! Anything I can!! Great wine selection! Definitely my favorite place in NY! My fave wines are Floret Cabernet Frank Pino Noir Riesling But they are all great! I would go with 2013 selection over the 2012 unless you are lucky enough to get your hands on the 2011! I always have a great time in here, so relaxing! You can bring he kids and just taste some wines and bring some bottles home! I'm always greeted here with a smile. I will come come ANYTIME I have a chance - if you love wine!!! COME HERE!!!!!!!!

Yelp
I've been a member of CdB for many years now and it's one of my absolute favorite wineries on the NoFo for several reasons which I'll list below. The staff is absolutely fantastic, everyone from Evie the tasting room manager, to Michelle, to Nancy, to Mary & Marie, it's a very knowledgeable bunch that are there to ensure your happy. Borghese is the site of the first/founding winery of the North Fork (Hargrave vineyards, Marco and Ann-Marie Borghese bought the winery from the Hargraves in 1999). Here are two reasons why I'm a Reserve Club member and worth your time: + Fantastic Pinot Noirs, Cabernet Sauvignons, Cab Francs, Merlots, and blends from very mature grapes that are decades old. For the NoFo, their plantings are definitely considered "Old Vines" + Their Rosés are fantastic as well + A bit of old world charm from a winery that isn't trying to be something or someone else. No overtly grandiose tasting room - they let the wines speak for themselves + Ample parking as well as outdoor seating + They allow you to bring your food / snacks without giving you a hard time + They accommodate large groups and take reservations in advance + The barn in the back is a massive space perfect for events/parties, etc + They treat their wine club members like GOLD - you aren't nickeled and dimed for every little thing... I visit them often and I suggest you do the same. THIS has been a review by Gaurav

Yelp
This review is for the 2014 Pinot Noir, thank you for recommending this bottle. I walked in to purchase wine, tasting bar was full I immediately by a very helpful woman who helped me with the purchased and explained the growing process and how the Pinot Noir offered is unique to the North Forks. Well maintained grounds and building nice function room as well.

Yelp
My wife and I are regulars to the North Fork and have driven past the PINOT NOIR barrels many a time. This time we stopped to check this vineyard out. Simple, clean place. Outdoor area was the same, uncomplicated but efficient with decent shade on a hot sunny day. The two-person "staff" (I use the term loosely - I just wish I got their names.....) were warm, welcoming and knowledgeable. The Vineyard allows you to bring your own food, as long as you're outdoors. I felt bad for the poor guy outside on the keyboards - he was sweating his grapes off as he sang the day away. Anyhow, we got the 5-glass flight of Reds. I'm not a big wine guy but my wife knows her way around. She is really, really picky and for the most part she hasn't found a Long Island wine she likes yet. Until today ! Yay. The Cabernet Sav was her fave and 2-3 others actually pinged on her radar. We'll be back in November after Pumpkin Season is over to try the new Cab+.

Yelp
We go to so many wineries in the North Fork. We love the North Fork terroir. Let's say in a given week's vacation we visit about 16 wineries. This year, of all the wines we tasted, Borghese's Cabernet Sauvignon was our favorite. Not only that, but Regina (I hope you see this) was incredibly attendant, knowledgeable, and fun- which made the experience that much more enjoyable. Thank you Regina- whatever they're paying you isn't enough.

Lori A.

Yelp
We visited the Borghese vineyard yesterday. What an amazing experience! Had a great tour with Giovanni and then enjoyed tasting a wide variety of wines! We all had a wonderful time and would highly recommend!

D B.

Yelp
They tout Pinot Noir but be aware they had several bad crops. The Pinot is not on the tasting wine as a combo. A Taste is $12, a glass is $25 and a bottle is $80.

Yelp
Borghese what a fabulous little gem. Sure it's not as big as the other wineries on the east end. However it is one of the first vineyards where it all began. It is full of rich history and has delightful wines. I am still kicking myself for not buying the Allegra Riesling because it was my absolute favorite from all the four wineries I visited that day ( Matebella, Pellegrini and Raphaels). I'm going to try to see if I can buy that bottle of sweetness online.Borghese was a perfect way to start our wine tour. The staff was incredibly sweet and helpful. My friends bought dark chocolate and it was great option with the wine. Definitely would recommend this vineyard.

Yelp
Had an excellent experience over Labor Day weekend. Fantastic wine, friendly and helpful staff, and really gorgeous vineyard and tasting house with some interesting art on display. We were fortunate enough to be there on a day with a tour. Our guide was extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and we got to learn about every step of the process. As we were waiting we were treated to two additional tastings beyond the fight that came with the tour. As this is the area's oldest vineyard, it has the added bonus of an insight into the (relatively recent) history of region and the local wine industry as well. I would add that their dessert wine is extraordinary. Definitely worth a stop.

Yelp
Again, this is one of favorites on the North Fork Wine Trail. (there are a few) It's actually one of the oldest as well. The place itself has very laid back vibe and is more akin to a cafe inside and outside are giant blue Adirondack chairs that are perfect for enjoying a breeze and a glass (or bottle of their fine offerings) They have two different tasting options, a higher (4 for $12) and lower priced option 4 for $8 I think), and you can pick the wines you want. I really enjoyed their Reisling. It was actually awarded a double gold medal. I also enjoyed the Ice wine which I normally do not, as well as their Cabernet Franc. The star of the show for me was the Pinot Noir Rose. Really really different. I bought a bottle and am waiting for the right time to uncork that bad boy. If you are out here I would do this one last. This way you could enjoy the cool late afternoon breeze and just relax.

Yelp
Visited eight North Fork wineries this weekend, and this was by far my favorite. Very knowledgeable staff who do indeed say "we're the best" with a wry smile... possibly because they are. My boyfriend and I split a reserve tasting--4 of their reserve wines for $12. We tried the sauvignon blanc, pinot noir, merlot, and cab franc. These were all amazing--I especially loved the 2006 pinot noir, and my boyfriend loved the merlot. Then (with the wry smile) the pourer gave us a tasting of the 2005 meritage--a super smooth red that was really, really good. I didn't actually realize Long Island produced wine that good. Normally it's a separate tasting fee because it's a $60 bottle of wine, but he threw it in for us. We also tasted the estate riesling (which he again threw in). We ended up buying a glass of the pinot and a glass of the riesling to sip outside in their bright blue Adirondack chairs next to the vineyard, and left with a bottle of the pinot and the merlot. I'm already trying to find out where to buy this stuff in the city. While visiting several more of the big name wineries down the road that afternoon, I just dreamed of coming back to Castello di Borghese for a glass of the meritage....

Yelp
I have been to this vineyard many times and have the same frustrations each time, so I can soundly say this weekend's was my last visit. The two stars are for the wine alone, which is excellent. But this place rests too much on its pretentious laurels from being the oldest vineyard. Oldest doesn't mean best overall. Their customer service is completely lacking, thanks mainly to a staff member I see mentioned here in other reviews. The short haired, blonde woman is dismissive and judgmental, and the rest of the staff seems to lack the knowledge you so often find (and value) at neighboring wineries. The indoor facilities could also use some updating, with the tasting room smelling musty (possibly moldy?) on humid days.

Yelp
The wines were a little dry for me & a little more expenisve than the other vineyards, but they did allow us to have our own food. It was a hot summer day, so we sat outside under the tent. They do allow dogs on the property. Friendly staff that greeted us and helped us. Bathrooms need a little updating as well.

Yelp
We were on our way to Waters Crest Winery but realized that Waters Crest is in a strip mall so we kept on driving and decided to make a stop here which was a mile or so down the road (not to judge a book by its cover but we only come out once a year so we wanted to enjoy both the wine and the venue - I'm sure Waters Crest has its own merits). Now, I had read some so so reviews about Borghese so I wasn't expecting much but it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Just goes to show you your mileage may vary depending on the day/server. In any event, the tasting room is a walk-up and the guy that helped us was extremely knowledgeable/friendly and recommended several wines like the 2012 Riesling which was fantastic. We grabbed a few bottles of the Riesling and unbeknownst to us, the tasting was complimentary because we purchased their wine. Other wines were ok, not great. It was a good experience so I'd come back again and have a drink outside overlooking their vineyard.

Yelp
Alright like a previous poster mentioned they do talk a lot about how they are the oldest winery in the area. But I would hardly call them pretentious. Our pour-er was very friendly and didn't stick his nose up when six of us wanted to split a tasting since we already had so much wine and still had another winery to go to. I don't usually like dark rich reds but their Cabernet Franc was unbelievable. The only part that was disappointing was they didn't have a list of stores that sold their wine in city. I guess that's what Google is for.

Yelp
We love this place. Haven't been here in years, but still enjoy their wines and friendly tasting experience. Fans of the chardonette, flourette and cab franc.

Yelp
Hands down, the best winery in the North Fork (though frankly, the competition doesn't make that such an outstanding claim). Love their reisling, ice wine called Allegra, and their cabernet franc. A quaint tasting room. Very friendly and knowedgable staff that knows they are serving the best of NoFo.

Yelp
Really great wine, terrible service! Went there this weekend, they weren't even that busy. Don't judge me because I'm wearing jeans, my money is still green.

Yelp
Growing up with Napa an hour away, my context for wine country is skewed towards sprawling countryside with picturesque vines and hills, with a gorgeous estate house. Entering Castello, I initially was struck by how quiet things seemed, but brushed aside my past experience and entered inside. This was a fantastic choice, btw!! There were only a few others inside so we were able to have an immediate and very personalized tasting. Our host (who was young but a freaking wine wizard with how much he knew) was brilliant in his descriptions, clearly a wine savant, and also made us feel comfortable. Plus the wine is goooooooood. Love how we could enjoy a tasting together, and occasionally go off-book to try a different option. Disclaimer: I usually drink wine because it's red and around $10. We left thoroughly impressed and satisfied, and even bought a bottle of white wine. WHITE wine. I don't even know who I am anymore!

Yelp
Went back to Castello di Borghese as part of a bus tour that included several other wineries. Wasn't too thrilled to go back, but considering it was only one stop among many, I went along for the ride. I must say, the wines are pretty good for Long Island (yes, even the reds). And the folks running the tasting were quite friendly and knowledgeable. Of course, the woman who soured my first "experience" here was still there and couldn't be avoided. Although she wasn't as nasty, she still wasn't very professional or sensible at all. A few folks were on line waiting for the restroom and, for some reason (not quite sure why), she came by and asked us, "Are you all almost done here?" We all looked at each other, unsure of what to say. Not sure what the rush was... but clearly, none of us on the restroom line were "almost done." Strange... very, very strange. Anyway... So, if you want to try some decent wine (aka "good" Long Island wine) and are willing to deal with potentially strange service, go ahead and give CdB a try.
