Borgo Pignano

We had a wonderful stay at Borgo Pignano. The property is beautiful and very well kept, with stunning views over the Tuscan hills. The atmosphere is peaceful and relaxing, and it really feels like a little escape from the world. The staff were kind and helpful, and the food was delicious with lots of attention to local ingredients. It’s a place where you can truly slow down and enjoy nature. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an authentic Tuscan experience.

I recently booked a three night stay at Borgo Pignano, visiting with my partner and two other friends. Our entire group were deeply impressed by this almost impossibly beautiful property - but even more so by the attention to detail and kindness of the staff and culinary team. You can tell there is genuine passion and pride in their hospitality, which is positively joyful. It really is hard to find even one fault with the entire set up, from the bed linens to bathroom products and a breakfast you will want to be hungry enough for to carry on enjoying as long as possible. One could easily stay a week here without wanting to leave once; it’s that good. My partner and I received an upgrade to an exquisitely beautiful set of rooms, without even having to ask. The cuisine at the Pignano restaurant is memorably good. It is no small feat that almost the entirety of the produce used in creating the menu is sourced from the 800 acres of soaring Tuscan landscape the property sits in. I cannot wait to come back - I think if I had to choose one destination for the a deep sense of relaxation and wellness, Pignano would be it. Thank you to the entire team for making our stay so wonderful.

Where do we begin? We stayed here for four nights during our honeymoon in 2023 and knew we needed to return. For our second visit we stayed for seven nights and it was as amazing as we remembered it. From the location, property and team; you instantly feel relaxed and at home. The dining and housekeeping service is immaculate. Everyone is welcoming and accommodating. Special shout-outs to CLAUDIA (who remembered us two years ago). She is the jewel of Borgo. We always looked forward to seeing her for evening cocktails. Gigi, the property manager who gave us an incredible tour of the property. Bella and Lorenzo who went above and beyond for making us feel special and comfortable. We look forward to coming back for our third trip!!

Worth a visit! Wish stayed longer. Staff is amazing from the moment you enter the property; they make you feel at ease and take care of everything. Breakfast buffet was amazing with a lot of different offerings; restaurant options for lunch and dinner are good. There are great activities available throughout the estate. Highly recommend Pasta making and Truffle Hunting. You can also visit the close town with their shuttle service: Volterra.

Borgo Pignano and Villa Il Poggio is one of the most beautiful places on earth. Every staff member was incredibly friendly, welcoming and concerned for our well being. The combination of full service hotel and luxury villa is ideal. We had meals delivered to our villa all of which was suburb. The pinnacle was the chef’s dinner the staff prepared for our group in our villa. Absolute perfection! All of the food from breakfast, lunch and dinner was so delicious. We look forward to coming back to Borgo and would recommend the property for anyone to experience the finest of Tuscany.

Absolutely one of the best luxury destinations - deep in Tuscany - what really sets Borgo Pignano Tuscany apart is it combines the staggering beauty of Tuscan living, the luxury of the villas and property and an attentive embracing staff.|From arrival to departure we were welcomed and enjoyed every moment.|Wealth of relaxing activities and restaurants without being overwhelming.|Luxury accomodations (my wife and I stayed in The Attic Suite with a view of the church on site, terra cotta roof tiles, vineyards and hills - its own destination after a day of activities).|Hard to describe the staff because they all were friendly, warm, attentive without being overbearing. Gigi made us feel like "the most important guest" every time we saw him, and his personal tour of the 800 acre property was a hi-lite.|We are going back, and that says it all.

What’s not to love about Borgo Pignano? From the moment you step onto the property, it feels as though you’ve entered another world. This stunning historic estate offers a perfect blend of ancient charm and modern luxury. The amenities are exceptional, and the staff—especially Vittorio and Gigi—are incredibly attentive, ensuring that every aspect of our stay was pleasant and memorable. The on-site Michelin-starred restaurant is a true culinary highlight. We stayed at the San Bartolomeo House, an impressive two-story accommodation with the master suite on the upper floor—thoughtfully designed and beautifully appointed. Breakfast at Borgo Pignano is world-class, and the lower pool offers one of the most breathtaking views we’ve ever seen. To our surprise, the estate even includes a museum filled with antique cars and motorcycles—an unexpected and delightful touch. But what truly stood out to us was the evident love and care that owner Michael Moritz has poured into this place. We were told he knows every staff member by name. That might seem ordinary, but for someone of his stature, it reflects a rare level of humility and personal investment. My wife and I were genuinely impressed by the meticulous attention to detail throughout the property. Borgo Pignano is a treasure in every sense

We arrived at Borgo Pignano for one night and immediately wanted to extend our stay, this was before we were aware that we had been upgraded to the most stunning signature suite we have ever stayed in with views towards Volterra. We were treated as individuals and as if we were family. The Borgo is impeccable in every way, the service, the ambience, style, attention to detail, stunning art and the views, goodness the views. ||We kept finding treasures, such as the billiard room, library, herb room, and of course the Italian fiat collection. The food was divine, particularly the tasting menu with the most perfectly paired wine served in the beautiful Michelin green star restaurant. The highlight was the tour with Gigi on one of the many golf carts where we picked prunes directly from the trees and fed the pigs. He was simply wonderful and showed real empathy when I found out some sad personal news whilst at the hotel. My partner and I are already planning a trip back to Pignano and I can’t wait.

We had the most incredible stay here for part of our honeymoon! The property is stunning and it was so relaxing. Gorgeous views and delicious food/drinks. From the moment we arrived the staff was so accommodating, especially Gigi!

Not only is the the property the most amazing resort i've been to - ever with it's surreal grand downton abbey esq castle grounds, the tuscany view and sunset were unforgettable, and the staff that cook, clean, serve do every role so well professionally and done with so much love and care. everything you need is here and the quality of room, service, grounds and food is simply the best i have ever encountered. thanks borgo pignano. especially the breakfast staff.

Such a lovely hotel. The accommodations are stunning. We stayed at a villa for part of our stay and the main hotel as well. Each accommodation was incredible. Well appointed , very pretty and extremely comfortable. The staff is outstanding! So warm and welcoming. The views gorgeous. We enjoyed a cooking class , long hikes , and truffle hunting. It's a wonderful hotel and we hope to return.

words alone cannot express the wow factor we experienced when we pulled into the courtyard for the first time. Borgo Pignano is a magical place that provided the Tuscany trip of a lifetime. There are lots of activities if you want to stay on the property or you can visit any one of the ancient cities near by. I recommend you rent a car or have a car hired to take you. It is difficult but not impossible to get a car after you arrive. Borgo Pignano is just remote enough to make it difficult. Last of all I have to say the staff are absolutely wonderful. Nicest most friendly people you could ever want to meet.

The grounds were absolutely beautiful. Every spot a place to take a picture with incredible views and beautiful landscape. A much needed relaxing spot after Florence. We wished that we had stayed another night to allow us to explore the area more and enjoy the pool. The service was top notch!

Volterra, Italy Tuscany region Found out about this property from a family member who had recently visited. This was a splurge night on our trip. Organic farming, bee keeping, herb gardens, chickens, etc. After hearing about the property, curiosity got the best of me. After driving up the long road, the alluring smell of lavender, fresh herbs, etc. draws you into the reception area of the property which dates back to the 12th century. To fully enjoy a visit, plan ahead to book spa appointments, herb garden tours etc. We booked last minute and did not plan accordingly and missed out on some of the properties high points and that coveted massage. Upon check in we were given a small tour of the property, but I do wish I had thought to ask about herb garden and farm tours at that time. A recommendation: It would be helpful to have staff share times of events like garden tours, etc upon check in so that guests may plan accordingly if they are interested. When we asked staff we received a lot of uncertain answers as to when these things were taking place. The room we booked was assigned for a larger wedding party, so they upgraded us to the attic suite which had stunning views and was very quiet and had a relaxing and charming space complete with fresh flowers on the bathroom counter, bedside tables and living room area, and a bowl of berries, bottle of wine and handwritten card was left to welcome us. The buildings and grounds are maintained impeccably, the pool area just outstanding. We enjoyed dinner at the outdoor restaurant since the main restaurant was closed. We ordered salad, wood fired pizza (which was great) but the lamb chops were thin and cooked past well done. Our stay was relaxing and our plan was to arrive early afternoon and stay put and just enjoy the property. One night is not enough here if you can manage to foot the bill and want complete peace and tranquility, this is a very unique place.

Borgo Pignano, tucked away in the Tuscan hills, is the perfect getaway. Tranquil and lovely, this property has luxury hotel and villa accommodations and a variety of activities that showcase the natural reserve. We especially enjoyed our stay in one of the villas with a private pool. Every day, fresh towels were waiting at the poolside, as well as daily housekeeping, including night turndown service. Being there in September, we could enjoy fabulous cuisine (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) outdoors in their restaurant overlooking the countryside. The sunsets were spectacular! The central hotel houses a library, pool table, and a lounge and additional amenities and activities such as horseback riding, wine tasting, a spa, and more. The atmosphere is quite peaceful and relaxing. We would have liked the ability to hire a driver to bring us to some of the neighboring towns, but that proved difficult, so we rented a car through them to tour a bit. However, having arrived at Borgo by taxi, they were able to book a driver to bring us back to Firenze. We also want to thank the property manager, Gigi, for his charming personality and attention to our needs. Salve Gigi!

From the minute you drive up, you know you've made the right decision to stay here. From the food and wine (most from the actual property) to the pool and activities (wine tasting, herb garden tour, hiking, spa) all on the property, we never wanted to leave. Will definitely be back.

Borgo Pignano is the Tuscan hideaway of my dreams. Friendly and incredibly professional staff, impeccably clean and beautifully appointed rooms, and perfect meal after perfect meal. Also. THE POOL. If you're looking for a beautiful place to get away from it all in a warm, friendly, inviting, authentic and incredibly scenic place- Borgo Pignano is the perfect Tuscan hideaway.
