I just had the chocolate cupcake and it was amazing! What made the cupcake amazing was the level of moisture in the cake combined with the light texture. This was very surprising considering the cupcake did not have the heavy taste of sugar from the frosting. It was very well made and professionally decorated, I would highly recommend for any party as a cake alternative with more variety in choices/flavors.

I finally made my way here yesterday! I had their cupcakes at the Hip Mall years ago and was excited to finally visit there store. Let me start by saying that I was disappointed when I walked in, I felt like it was missing something more. It’s just an empty colorful storefront with about 15 cupcakes for sale. It just looks so empty. I was lucky to get my hands on a quesito which is what I was more looking forward to! I had the pumpkin quesito and it was amazing, delicious! Great flavor, soft and flakey :) My disappoint comes w the cupcakes. We had 2, coco parcha and coquito. My husband and I agreed that the cake was grainy, wet and had a weird consistency. It was not moist. We couldn’t get over the grainy texture that we weren’t able to finish them. The frosting on the other hand was delicious, coco parcha wasn’t that sweet, which I enjoyed and the coquito frosting blew me away :) Almost forgot, my husband tried a sample of the mantecadito cookie and he really liked it! I’d love to give it another try in the future because I do love their story and enjoy following them on social media.

Reviewing from the PR Festival… The Cupcakes……the bread itself is nice and moist, they look pretty but the flavor is way too sweet and crumbles apart. The icing is even worse, extremely sweet, like how much sugar goes into these ingredients?? We were told to defrost the cupcakes so we had them the next day the icing stayed hard and even came clean off the bread, because of how stiff is it. At $5 each, I wasted $20 sad. The good reviews must be based on the other things on the menu.

Amazing cupcakes! My first time trying Puerto Rican desserts and they were fantastic- great customer service as well, the employees could not have been nicer! Will definitely be coming back for more- and they have a mailing list so I get updates on new flavors and specials they are having.

Delicious!!! We got a mix of flavors and so glad we did and got to try so many tasty flavors. I’ll be back for my birthday cupcake too 😋

Ordered some cakes for a friend's birthday and she absolutely loved them! Packaging is so cute and lovely. And the staff was just as lovely and very friendly. And the cafe was very colorful. So happy that I found this place, highly recommend getting your pastries here!

I love ❤️ trying new things and was so excited to try Borinken Cakes after finding them on TikTok. I ordered a variety of their desserts (Cupcakes/Guava Pastelillitos/Quesitos/ Limber). Pros: -The guava pastelillitos and quesitos tasted like my favorite Colombian/Mexican-French pastry’s. -The Guava Dream cupcake had a yummy creamy topping. Cons: -I did an online order days in advance because I wanted to share these at an event and several things were out of stock on the website. Limited menu! However, I still went forward with placing my order since I had high expectations for the menu because of the positive reviews. -The Cupcake breading was a dry and wet crumble like texture. (You need a spoon/fork to eat the cupcakes. I wasn’t provided with utensils) -The cupcake toppings of the other three cupcakes (Almond/ Nutella/ Pina Colada) tasted like traditional American frosting, however it had a hard texture. The frosting looked/tasted like it had been sitting all day. I would’ve personally preferred a topping like the Guava Dream. -The cupcakes were very sweet (even for me,a person who loves sweets). Overall I’m saddened that I can’t recommend these desserts. I fell in love with the backstory and vision. Best of luck 🤞

Google
So glad I found this bakery. The cupcakes are SOOOO good and moist. We were thrown off with the crunchy icing but when I looked up their flavors on their website after trying to cut through the icing, then I knew that’s how they make some of them. If you get a cupcake with their crunchy icing, I recommend taking the icing off and taking a bite of it after biting into the cupcake lol. It was hard to eat with the spoon given to us & much easier to eat by taking the top off. The flavors are on point and the moistness is perfect. They’re a little on the sweet side & a little pricey but I’ll still be back when we visit Chicago again. Can’t wait to try the other location for their drinks :)

Yelp
This review is long overdue but I wanted to share how incredible this bakery is. I'm not local so I placed an order online for a birthday delivery to my friend who lives in Chicago. Unfortunately there were some major bumps with the delivery vendor they used (the owner later let me know they would be parting ways with them) and wow, did they remedy the situation. The owner personally made the delivery to my friend the next day and not only did she throw in some extra goodies, she brought her birthday balloons Truly above and beyond. She was incredibly kind and generous and my friend said everything was absolutely delicious. This is a business with heart and I'd highly recommend them to anyone!

Yelp
They only get 1 star because the employee was nice. I bought 2 cupcakes from there, the chocolate one (Nutella I think) had the consistency of sawdust and the icing was hard and tasted old. The texture of the guava one was better, it tasted fresh BUT it didn't taste like guava, it tasted like a regular vanilla cupcake and the icing was decent.

Yelp
I tried this place out today, and it was delicious! I love crunchy icing; it's really hard to find. Also, I love all of the dessert choices with guava. The young lady who answered all of my questions was very helpful and made suggestions for my toddler. He loved his traditional cake with whipped frosting.

Yelp
Great service this evening. Love the cupcakes. Will try to visit each time we are in chicago.

Yelp
This shop is pricey but delicious. The cakes tasted great and the staff was very welcoming.

Yelp
My son and I are allergic to dairy. This is a great option for those who are vegan or dairy free. The coquito cupcakes are insane! You have to try them if you go.

Cristina R.

Yelp
In LOVE this place! All my family and friends know I am obsessed with these cupcakes!! I love my sweets and Rachel has made the perfect cupcakes just for me!! I have 3 favorite cupcakes there. The first one on my list is the piña colada. I love biting into it and finding pineapple pieces! Second fave is the coco parcha. You have the moist coconut cake with the parcha flavor on top and it is EVERYTHING! Lastly the guava dream. I love EVERYTHING guava so needless to say this is my jam. Let me not forget to mention her packaging. I love the colors!!! Makes me thinking the island with all its bright colors. You can't find cupcakes like this everywhere, believe me. Take the drive there and try them out for yourself! If you're not a person that's into sweets like me. She has pastries that aren't as sweet and are authentic Puerto Rican pastries. Her quesitos are a hit with my family. Tell them CristinaEatsALot from Instagram sent you

Yelp
Tried a couple cupcakes and while they look nice they had a grainy taste. I'm not sure if that's how they are supposed to taste but it wasn't for me. The frosting was dry and just wasn't very good unfortunately. My personal opinion of course.

Kim R.

Yelp
Although i really wanted to like this place, it just wasn't for me. The cupcakes are really pretty and the service was exceptional but the cupcakes were dry and had like a grainy feeling that I wasn't a fan of. I don't know if this is like a Puerto Rican recipe but I didn't like the texture. Again, this is my own opinion but this place just wasn't worth the price for the product I received, it just felt like I was eating dry cornbread, and cornbread is already dry.

Milagros A.

Yelp
This place transports me back to house parties in Puerto Rico. These are not your typical cupcakes and flavors and that's what I love the most. I love how they experiment with different flavors and infuse flavors from other cultures. Love this place.

Christine J.

Yelp
Dropped by to pick up birthday cupcakes and was intrigued by the Puerto Rico connection. The woman behind the counter explained that the almond cake is inspired by traditional wedding cake, and all the other flavors are based off that cake. The cupcakes were moist, not too sweet, and fresh. She offers spoons with the cakes and you definitely need them as they tend to fall apart. The packaging is adorable. Each cupcake is wrapped in paper and the carrier has a clear window so you can see them.

Ennos P.

Yelp
Borinken Cakes, you are overpriced by a lot! Your 6 pack of pastellios should be about $4.50 on the high-end. Please do yourself a favor a lower the price. Good luck to you!

Cherise A.

Yelp
So yummy!! I tried a pack of 4 cakes and the mini pastelillitos. My favorite were the Açaí and guava! So moist in the middle and just enough sweetness for me!! My mouth waters just thinking about them! The other 2 cakes were the coconut and the coquito. The cakes were great but the frosting was too sweet for me. I knew they were sweeter but I didn't imagine that sweet. But would I come back again, HECK YEAH! I'd love to try some of the other flavors!

Catherine L.

Yelp
I agreed the cupcake is over priced and it wasn't good enough for the cost. I bought a dozen for my son birthday. My son and his friend not to eat it after one bite. Some was too soggy, some was hard. Too sweet!! The cupcakes look like not balancing made. This place like a new baker just try to open the business. I give 2 stars for the pretty decorations.

Novi C.

Yelp
This is a blast from the past for me! Just remembering the cakes I had for birthdays, baptisms, etc. The cupcakes are deliciously soaked in a brandy sugar, with a nice crunchy topping! I love going to this location since it's close to home (I'm going to miss this place when I move). Everyone that I've met have been so gracious! Everyone go and get EVERY FLAVOR, my personal recommendations are almond, traditional, and coquito! Prices are reasonable and the cupcakes are super filling! One would be enough to satisfy but why would you just eat one? Lol check them out! With all my love!

Ashlee M.

Yelp
The cupcakes were soaked in too much liquid which made the cake mushy and completely fall apart. I ordered the piña colada flavor and it was so sweet it made my teeth hurt. It's like all they did was mix pineapple juice and powdered sugar so the frosting had a hard and crunchy layer like it was dried out. Instead of a soft fluffy buttercream. You'd be better off making box cake. Don't waste your money

Yinette R.

Yelp
Trash. All taste cloyingly sweet and have that artificial cheap taste. I bought six and all tasted awful. Was looking forward to the guava and there was zero guava taste. Don't waste your money.

Alison G.

Yelp
My coworker picked these up and they were absolutely delicious! If you like guava try the Guava dream, very fresh tasting!

Miguel M.

Yelp
Love this place! Amazing cupcakes and quesitos. Very great and friendly people as well.

Cris C.

Yelp
Yum. These are so good. Perfect size. So tasty. Try every flavor.

Maria D.

Yelp
Their cupcakes sucked. I received 1/2 dozen for my birthday and they were disappointing. And to top it off expensive also.

Sandy G.

Yelp
These sweets are delicious and fresh! Ordering beforehand and picking up is a breeze! I've had the mantecaditos, quesitos and guava pastelitos. On a second occasion, I had the coco-parcha cupcakes and those were amazing!

Aileen G.

Yelp
We tried them for the first time last week and will certainly be back for more. They were sweet and extremely moist. These little cakes were delicious!

Jacqueline V.

Yelp
I give it 1 star because although their frosting tastes somewhat like the flavor, their cupcakes are too wet, more like sandy. Would have enjoyed the taste of the frosting had the cake not been soaked with"natural flavor". Disgusting, did not enjoy them. Due to the hype, Bought a batch of 12 to have a taste party. Most of them were thrown out, After the first bite. Waste of money.
