Came here on a Saturday afternoon/evening to give it a shot--we've never been. The main room is split into two very different environments and we weren't sure where to sit. To our left was a nice well-lit (but not too bright) lounge type area. Big, comfy-looking booths, couches, a TV and a giant wall of the famous "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" picture. Definitely a party room that could comfortably be lively, or intimate depending on the mood.
To our right, a dimly-lit bar area with high tables and chairs, and games on the bar itself. The ceiling above the bar looked like riveted copper, and honestly, it looked really nice. Several TV's lined the bar area.
Overall, music was playing (not blaring)
We opted for the bar life. It was seat yourself, and we took a 2-person high top. There was just enough room for 2 of the open menus on the table.
The server was sweet and patient with us as we asked her to return a couple of times as we looked over the menu. When the reviews say bar food, it's def that. Sliders seem to be their thing, but there's a lot of other American options as well as a few Asian inspired dishes.
We ended up with Bob's Burger sliders, Best Coast Tots, Bae-L-T Bowl (salad), and a Slider Mary or whatever it was called. Essentially a bloody Mary with two different sliders and pepperoncinis stuck to it. I opted for that to try the bloody Mary (seems like a good tell of a place's bar quality--using a store bought mix or their own recipe, heavy pour, etc).
The biggest downside was the time. There were 3 other tables (including the bar) when we were in there, and 2 were already eating. But it still took a long time to get our food. Well over 30 minutes before anything showed up, and then it trickled out over the next 15 mins or so.
Bloody Mary: The drink was good. It felt like their own recipe. Another reviewer said theirs just tasted like tomato juice. This one didn't.. I could get the celery salt, the worcestershire, the tomato, and just a tingle of spice without having enough to scare off the gentle palates. Maybe a hint of horseradish, not sure. Overall, it was a good drink and would gladly get another if they were always like that. The sliders were their traditional slider and the chicken slider. The traditional was fine, it had caramelized onions and overall was sweet, but not too sweet. The chicken slider was simple--friend chicken, a mayo of some flavor, and a pickle. This was the star. As simple as it was, the chicken slider was delicious. Perfect seasoning.
Bob's Burgers: Not bad. They didn't have the strong flavor I though they would from the list of ingredients on it. It tasted good, just not strong, so slightly bland with no spice as expected. The garlic aioli was good (there was a small blob on my plate I dipped in). Just overall a little bland for the expectations--but not bad.
Wife's salad was good, she said. I don't know why she went for a salad, but that was her mood, so there you go. Plenty of bacon on top, she enjoyed the dressing. I didn't try it.
Best Coast Tots: This was the only disapointing dish. We asked about the 'special sauce' knowing that any time those words were used, it meant sweet. Confirmed, the waitress said it was their version of Thousand Island. We asked for it on the side. When it came out, ti was on the side as requested. But the tots were unseasoned and the beef on top was also unseasoned and dry, so it was extremely bland without the sauce. But in the end, if you added the sauce, the only thing you would have gotten out of this was Big Mac (their sauce was a very close replica of McD's sauce). The beef, the sauce and the tots (bun) were basically that. If you love Big Macs, you'll love this dish. We don't, and since it was unseasoned without the sweet sauce, it was a miss for us. I get it, it's meant to be covered in the sauce so seasoning isn't normally needed, but not seasoning the base ingredients and relying solely on a sauce has always been pet peeve of mine.
Overall it's a good place. The decor and the majority of the food gets it 4 stars, but the wait and prices for that food was a bit much--yes, bar food, but I shouldn't have to be smashed to accept the prices as reasonable.
Worth a trip? Yeah, probably, if you're OK with the prices. You'll enjoy it.
