Bo, Bo, Bo....
What an INCREDIBLE story!!
And for those of you who don't know the backstory, let me paraphrase it for you:
Bo's House of Omelettes & Waffles previously known as Harold's House of Omelettes opened way back in 1961.
Harold's was here before the City of Thousand Oaks was Incorporated & was even here right on the Boulevard before it was known as it is now...
Thousand Oaks Blvd.
Fast forward to 2021, 60 years or 10 decades later of serving breakfast and lunch to the locals, passerby's and those who wanted to eat at an establishment that was literally apart of the cities deep history...
The old saying "All Good Things Come to an End"
Presented itself and Harold's announced it would be closing its doors on May 14th 2021.
Well, don't fret... A Happy Ending is coming!
Because this story is far from over!!!
In fact, it was just a new chapter which continued with ALL (except Harold) of the same "characters" aka (the same cooks, staff, servers & managers with one minor detail...
Bo, the new "main character" would be the at the forefront of this new story.
The backstory on Bo
Bo, who himself was a regular customer of Harold's in the early 2,000's, once even took over Harold's to host his family after his Mothers funeral. He recalls how Harold's staff allowed him and his family to take over the establishment and celebrate his Mother's life well after they were closed for the day.
Years later, Bo, like the rest of the close-knit community of Thousand Oaks and the surrounding Conejo Valley had heard Harold's would be closing its doors.
Well remember earlier when I mentioned a Happy Ending was coming?
The Happy Ending
Bo, a once customer, decided to take over the former Harold's House of Omelettes and make it Bo's House of Omelettes & Waffles.
Not only would he keep all of the staff that was already in place, but he would also maintain the secret omelette recipe that had been used since 1961!
Shhhh!! It's a secret!!
And all of this transition was done in a 2 week period in which Bo's officially opened on May 29th 2021.
4 years since Bo stepped in as the saving grace, the House of Omelettes & Waffles continues to serve up a mean breakfast/lunch and the legacy of its former owner, Harold continues on.
My Experience at BHofO&W
While getting some new tires at the Tire Man next door, my daughters & I had a little time to kill so we decided to grab some breakfast while we waited.
Being a resident of Thousand Oaks for 28 years now, you think I would have tried ALL of the restaurants in town, but surprisingly even though I had passed by the previous Harold's, now Bo's restaurant many, many, many times over the years and even heard great things about it, I just never made it here.
Well on May 15th 2025, 4 years and a day since Harold's last day, I FINALLY made it to Bo's House of Omelettes & Waffles!!!
The place is cozy and we were greeted with open arms.
After perusing the menu and me deciding to try something different than my normal breakfast go-to (usually corned beef hash), I went with their Huevos Rancheros, and let me tell you...
I ate every last bite!
As for the kids, they split some pancakes, eggs and bacon and they were equally satisfied.
The menu does have a dedicated section to 'Mexican Delicacies' which I will definitely be honing into next time we come through for lunch.
And of course, now that I know a little bit more about this place, you know I'm 100% coming back to try their secret Omelette Recipe for breakfast.
To my Thousand Oaks Natives, Newbies and everyone in between, if you haven't given this place any love....don't wait 28 years like I did.
If you have and you love it, Rock On!!
To Bo, Harold, and the staff past and present...
Keep on telling your story through your food.
