"You know we’re fans of small-scale boutique hospitality, but we’re not closed-minded about it — there’s a time and a place for a proper, full-scale luxury hotel. One of those places happens to be Lyon, specifically the Presqu’île, the narrow peninsula between the the Rhône and the Saône rivers, in the heart of one of France’s biggest cities. Here you’ll find the luxury hotel you’re looking for, with just a hint of a surprise: for within this heritage building, which is classically, unmistakably French, Boscolo Lyon’s interiors come with a subtle Italian accent." - Tablet Hotels

Really enjoyed our stay at this lovely hotel! Super kind reception and great room service. Hotel breakfast was top notch, especially the truffle omelet. Booked through my Amex Platinum and got double upgraded for free. There were macarons & champagne waiting in the room. Really nice hot shower. Couldn't have asked for a better experience.

We stayed at the Boscolo Lyon, which is marketed as a 5-star hotel. While there were positives, the experience did not consistently meet that standard. Pluses: The common areas were clean and well maintained, and the holiday décor was tasteful. Street parking was easy to find directly next to the hotel, which is a real advantage in Lyon. The staff were genuinely friendly and welcoming. Having booked with Amex Platinum, we were welcomed with a bottle of champagne, which was a nice touch. The bed was comfortable, the food overall was good, and the sauna was properly hot. Where it falls short: There was a moldy smell in the shower and a sewer odor coming from the sink. Housekeeping appeared familiar with the issue and came in to spray something, but the smell returned. The bathroom design offers very little privacy, with glass doors separating the shower and toilet, and the toilet area was cold due to a large window. Soundproofing is poor, with street noise clearly audible throughout the night. Operational issues were also noticeable. The restaurant reception desk was often unattended, the in-room app did not work for ordering food, and the spa ran out of proper towels. Most concerning, there was no soap in the restaurant bathroom—only lotion. I raised this with staff, but it was still not resolved the following evening. The minibar was described as complimentary, but contained only water and a few small candy bars, which felt misleading for a hotel at this level. Breakfast was fine, though the coffee was surprisingly poor for an Italian-branded property. Overall, the staff were kind and professional, but recurring odor issues, design flaws, and basic operational oversights prevent this hotel from delivering a true 5-star experience.

The area is great, but we were placed in what felt like the dirtiest room - possibly because we were traveling with a dog, although our dog is cleaner and more well-behaved than many people. It was also extremely noisy. We had to sleep with earplugs - there was either an AC unit or a ventilation system near the window that was humming all night and made it impossible to fall asleep. My recommendation to the hotel management is to focus more on cleanliness and guest comfort. This hotel doesn’t even feel like a three-star property, let alone a five-star one.

This hotel does not deserve a five star rating. Despite freezing temperatures outside, the room was unbearably warm and the thermostat barely functioned. To make matters worse, the toilet is positioned directly against the window, resulting in an uncomfortably cold toilet seat, an odd and unpleasant design choice. Noise was another major issue. An air conditioning unit from a neighboring building produced constant noise that came straight through the window, even when it was fully closed. Breakfast was disappointing. Only one cup of coffee or tea is included. Any additional cup must be paid for, which is unacceptable at this price point. The minibar was almost empty, yet the in room tablet listed items such as a cola for four euros. When I asked reception if the minibar could be restocked, I was told this was not possible. Instead, I was advised to order a cola via room service. Since I had just ordered food, that seemed reasonable until I was charged eight euros for a single cola. I had also ordered a welcome package, which was never delivered. All of this was already frustrating, but the worst part came at check out. The hotel charged a higher rate than what was confirmed on Booking.com. The staff refused to look into it and simply stated this is what the system shows and it cannot be changed. I was told to contact Booking.com instead. This response was dismissive and not customer friendly, especially for a five star hotel. In terms of facilities, service, and customer care, this is not a five star hotel, although it certainly charges five star prices. Very disappointing overall.

This was our second time staying in this hotel. We came back because the first time, we enjoyed our stay - we had a lovely spacious room on the top floor and we experienced a good level of service. Unfortunately this visit has made us not want to come back ever again. We arrived by car, and the staff said they would take care of parking it promptly. Yet, 45 minutes later the car was still outside the hotel, with the hazards on. The staff were having a lovely conversation, full of laughter and the task was still not completed, leaving us rather disappointed. Then, we were given the key to a room room that stank of cat piss. We tried to air it out for 30 minutes but it was unsuccessful. We don’t even think the room given to us was cleaned, as when we entered the bedroom, staff were still there fluffing pillows and quickly left as we entered. Luckily, we changed rooms but the fact we were first placed into a room full of a pungent smell of animal excretions was quite distasteful to say the least. We travel with a dog and this is always mentioned in advance. There was nothing prepared for the dog, we had to ask the reception to accommodate our needs later on. When we went downstairs for dinner, we let the staff know about an allergy. They did not communicate this to the kitchen, and then brought us a dish with the allergen in it (balsamic vinegar). When we asked for a new salad, they brought us a dish with wilted leaves, clearly past their best date. On the day we were leaving, we requested the car as required, 30 minutes before our scheduled departure. The car did not arrive for an hour. We were told they were extremely busy to accommodate our request. When we asked for an update, turns out no one tried to go and get our vehicle at all, they couldn’t even find the keys. It was incredibly unorganised. Overall, this stay was a total nightmare and has completely put us off staying at any Boscolo Hotel. Our conclusion is that the staff at this hotel need better training, in terms of service quality and customer expectations. They clearly lack basic skills for communication between their departments.

Imagine my excitement when my wife and I checked in and were informed that we were being upgraded to their best suite. The room was gorgeous: spacious, luxurious and overflowing with hygiene products. We were over the moon, unpacked….and then we noticed a sewage smell emanating from the shower. Soon, we noticed it in the entire suite.||We reported this to the front desk. They did not seem at all surprised, nor did they say they’d send an engineer to resolve the issue. Instead, they moved us to the room type that we had originally paid for. My wife and I truly believe they knew there was a problem and that they hoped we wouldn’t notice.||The executive suite we ended up in is lovely. But we were surprised at how the staff apparently doesn’t have a checklist for preparing a room. The shower gel bottle was nearly empty. The one puny tube of hand cream was half empty and was apparently left from the last guest. And the stopper in the sink was broken, just left there.||Here’s the kicker: After the inconvenience of unpacking, repacking and unpacking again, and reporting all the issues, the hotel made no attempt to make things right other than fill the shower gel and give us a tube of hand cream. It wasn’t until I said something about my disappointment that they sent an apology letter to our room with a bottle of champagne. For the price we paid, we expect more from a five star hotel.||This could have been a great hotel. The location makes it easy to get to points of interest and the breakfast buffet is lovely. But I recommend you go somewhere else.

We needed a place to stay for one night in Lyon before boarding an Amawaterways river cruise. This hotel was amazing and the thermal baths in the spa area were so fantastic for helping us get over the jet lag coming from America. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The beds were extremely comfortable which was also another great thing after traveling for so long. There are a lot of wonderful restaurants within walking distance and also a lot of shopping, plus a view of the river. I highly recommend staying here and would absolutely stay again for longer.

We had booked 6 nights in an elegance suite. We arrived in the afternoon about 1h30 pm and the room was not ready, which was fine, so we dropped off our lugguage and went for a walk. We returned exactly at 4pm and they mde us wait in the lobby for about 10 minutes. We think the rooms should be ready at 4pm. Then the fun begins as we arrive in our room and there is a foul odoor of roten water. We call reception and the head maid comes to the rooms and agrees that we cant stay in the room and this happens because of the rhone river. They then find us anoter room and by the time we move it is 6pm. We had breakfast included which was nice besides 2 mornings that the hotel had groups and trhere was no place to sit, missing food and long wait for coffee. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant. Food is very good but overpriced. It was the only place in France that they charged ud 4.50 euros for a bottle of water and when we finished the first bottle they brought us a second that we did nor drink but charged us 4.50 euros, for a total of 9 euros. This is not a 5 star foir North American standards and especially for the price we paid.
