Where to Slurp Ramen Around Boston

"Opened in March 2022, this new ramen shop hopes to carve a niche for itself in the already-crowded Harvard Square ramen scene with its innovative and unconventional ramen inspired by an ocean town in Japan. It offers a great selection of bowls and izakaya-style small plates that “you have not seen anywhere,” proclaims owner Yasu Sasago. For a good value, don’t miss out on the lunch specials." - Nathan Tavares, Eater Staff

Bosso Ramen Tavern, a Japanese Izakaya, Opens in Harvard Square, Cambridge - Eater Boston

"Bosso Ramen Tavern, a Japanese restaurant inspired by the ocean, has been quietly testing the waters in Harvard Square (24 Holyoke Street, Cambridge) this month, with a grand opening planned for March 26, 2022. Although ramen is highlighted in the restaurant’s name, Bosso isn’t a casual ramen shop; it’s a full-service izakaya meant for dates and gatherings, says owner Yasu Sasago, with an extensive menu of options beyond ramen." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

Amazing food and authentic ramens! I’ve already recommended my family and friends the seconds I tried the broth. The broth is rich, well-balanced and well seasoned. The noodles is chewy and perfectly cooked. The chicken is crispy outside and tender juicy inside. I would definitely come back to try more dishes.

Let me start with the staff, very friendly and welcoming. The best I've seen in Boston thus far. So thank you for the great hospitality Bosso. The food was great. Their hand rolls are delicious. I also had hokkaido croquettes; these were special. I would definitely come back and try more of their dishes.

My family and I enjoyed having dinner at Bosso Ramen. The ramen was really tasty! We ordered many food and shared together The service was excellent, Thanks to Eggy, you are the most friendly and welcoming waiter I have ever met Luckily we could park our car in front of the restaurant

Love the welcoming atmosphere , their ramen was on the spicier side but good; first time trying salmon along radish in sushi - combination is not bad at all - I appreciate how fast they serve us in, would definitely be back to try the other ramen options.

Google
Hands down, the best ramen experience in Boston. Very flavorful and unique flavors, incredibly friendly and enthusiastic staff, high-energy vibe. Excellent sushi rolls and rice dishes as well. The taste is remarkable. Lunch specials give the the chance to try a little of everything.

We arrived around 6:30pm on a Saturday in early June. I assume school was out since there was barely anyone there. We were seated immediately. We ordered two ramen and the chicken karaage app which came with 5 juicy pieces and a grilled shishito pepper. Both ramen were fine but for $18/bowl I expected a little bit more noodles and a thicker slice of pork. I wish the pork was thicker and charred like a lot of other ramen joints do.

Google
My friend highly recommended to try out Bosso as she’s had a pleasant experience here herself! I went with her on a busy Friday night, we called a few hours in advance to reserve a spot and luckily they had space for us :) We were seated at the bar, and the cocktail selection was awesome! I loved the service we received and everyone was super friendly and attentive. I thoroughly enjoyed all the food we ordered from the shishito peppers to the toro hand roll. I also love the ambiance inside the restaurant, cozy and quaint and soft dim lighting to match the vibes. Would def come back and if you’re in the Harvard Sq area, please give Bosso a try!!

Excellent service despite being busy, the ramen is the superstar especially the umami was great. Would love to come back here!

Yelp
I came with a friend on a Wednesday night at 5:30 and it was pretty empty but by the time we left at 7:30 it was hopping! So I definitely recommend a reservation if you come after 6:30 or so. The ambiance is very cozy - low, warm lighting. Our server was lovely. She explained the menu a bit since it was both of our first time there. I ordered the sumo rock (sake cocktail with orange and grapefruit juice) to drink and the vegan ramen to eat. The sumo rock was delicious but I don't think there was much alcohol in it. The vegan ramen was exceptional! The broth was nutty and flavorful. I wasn't sure nuts in ramen would work but they added a lovely variance in texture. My friend also loved her meal. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
We had a decent meal here during a quick visit to Cambridge. We chose this spot for convenience since we ended a Harvard Tour a few blocks away. The service is attentive and fast. The vibe is casual and made for a perfect lunch spot. We were seated immediately around 12pm and were able to put in our order via a QR code ordering system with our phones. The ramen came just a couple of minutes later. I tried the Umami Ramen, which included pork slices, egg, scallion, and red onion. The broth was flavorful and definitely lived up to the "Umami" name! Another person in my party tried the Vegan Ramen and was pleasantly surprised by how rich the broth was. Overall, we had a delicious meal here and I would not hesitate to come back if I am in the area again.

Yelp
There wasn't anything that stood out to me from this ramen shop. I was a little disappointed that the karage only came in two pieces, if you order the combination. There are a lot of japanese restaurants around the cambridge area. But this one just didn't stand out to me too much. It's not that the food wasn't good and the service wasn't terrible (QR code service), it was just a little expensive for the amount of food that they gave as well as the taste.

Yelp
BOSSO! Oh my god, this was amazing! The staff was so friendly and attentive. It was dark and romantic, perfect for a date night. The ramen was also unbelievable - we got the spicy norisuke. Will definitely be going back!

Yelp
Ambiance - 5 stars Customer service -5 stars Appetizers (chicken karaage and hand rolls) - 5 stars Ramen itself - 3 stars Mine the Umami ramen didn't state it would contain Chasu, the menu description was "Umami means "essence of deliciousness" Flavored egg, scallion, kikurage, red onion." But it came with huge portion of in my case, unwelcome chasu I did feel the appetizers were superior to the ramen itself, my bf agreed but our dining companions who reside in Boston felt their Karami ramen bowls were 5 star worthy To each their own.i would come back for apps and my bf for the Sapporo on tap and friendly service!

Yelp
All servers were super sweet and attentive. My friend ordered the umami ramen and I ordered two rolls. Both dishes came out relatively fast. My rolls were alright, not bad but I wouldn't go out of my way to get them again. They were bigger than anticipated so they filled me more than I thought for a reasonable price. My friend's ramen however, was really good. It felt very comfortable and had deep flavor. Very stereotypical ramen flavor but done well!
google avatar

Yelp
Pretty cute vibes once you're in. We got a lot of food to share and everything was pretty good. The ramen portion is definitely on the smaller side so would recommend getting other sides to share. The uni Wagyu sushi was alright but really liked the karaage.

Yelp
Had such a delicious meal at Bosso. The atmosphere was charming too. The open kitchen bar area adds a unique touch, allowing guests to witness the culinary magic firsthand. The food was delicious, especially the vegan ramen. And the CHILI OIL! It was really good! The service was great as well. Super friendly and loved how they would all yell thank you to guest when they were leaving.

Yelp
My friend and I went here for dinner a few months ago. Luckily, we were able to find metered parking near the restaurant. For appetizer, we got the chicken karaage which came in 4 large pieces with a shishito pepper. The chicken was actually pretty juicy and savory. I got the umami ramen which came with a half soft boiled egg, thinly sliced pork, scallions, red onions, and wood ears. The ramen was ok but not a wow. We also got some yuzu scallop and unagiinu hand roll. The yuzu scallop roll came with cod roe and scallop sashimi with yuzu sauce. The unagiinu one came with eel and egg. Both hand rolls were really good and fresh.

Gleb T.

Yelp
Ramen was not great! Broth lacked flavor. Santouka is much better. Takoyaki hand roll was yummy.

Yelp
I took up the Boston Ramen Crawl and Bosso Ramen was the first place on my list and I'm glad for this crawl as it introduced me to new ramen shops. Bosso was #1 on the crawl and it was the beginning of their lunch hour. Nestled in Harvard Sq., the restaurant's decor had modern and warm feel to it. Lots of wood and an earthy feel, hence the tavern name. I ordered their umami ramen. It was beautifully presented, all the ingredients were delicately placed atop the ramen that peeked through the light broth. The half soft egg had a dusting of something tantalizing, the sliced scallion and kikurage (mushroom) lead to diced red onion at the end. The ramen was straight and silky and the broth was flavorful. The thin slices of pork were tasty. My only complaint was that the serving size was on the small side so be prepared to order extra noodles if you are hungry. The waitress, who was also the hostess was very friendly and attentive.
google avatar

Meg C.

Yelp
Had the whale sake, umami ramen, karaage, charsu wasabi mayo sushi and sesame ice cream. You self order, so service was friendly but on the lighter side. Space was nice and simple, had a warm tavern feel with a touch of class. Ramen was good - the broth was good and flavorful, and the noodles and charsu were okay. Karaage was my favorite, came out hot and crispy - the chicken was tender and seasoned throughout. Skip the charsu wasabi mayo app, this was bland and kind of dry. Sake was nice but nothing to write home about. Sesame icecream was a good finisher, creamy and nutty. Overall the experience was good, but it's a bit pricey for what you're getting

Yelp
Bosso Ramen Tavern is a super cute ramen restaurant with a beautiful interior aesthetic. I went for the first time today and it was amazing! I got the spicy salmon handroll, yuzu scallop handroll, tuna avocado handroll (not pictured), and karami ramen. All three handrolls were great and a good size for the price and I don't think I could pick a favorite. Karami ramen was some of the best ramen I've ever had. The broth was so flavorful and the ground pork and cha siu were great additions. Everything about this bowl was perfect but the noodles were the highlight. Thick, chewy yellow wavy ramen noodles made this ramen next level. I will definitely be coming back to try the other ramens/handrolls and to have the karami ramen again! This place is one of my new favorite ramen spots.

Yelp
I came here at the high recommendation of two Harvard students, so I said, "Why not?" Thankfully, we came early enough to avoid the dinner rush, and we were seated right away despite not having any reservations. The ambiance is dark, with moody lighting, with the scent of savory broth wafting through the air. Ramen was definitely a craving after a day of touring Boston in the rain. Cocktail: Plum wine presented in a glass cone! It was definitely super sweet, which was a nice balance to the savory dish that was to come. Sushi: Spicy Salmon and Tuna Avocado. Loved the spicy salmon! This was delicious! Ramen: Spicy Norisuke. I recommend this with thick ramen noodles since this comes with thin noodles. I like the spice of broth, which is a delicious blend of unami. The pork slices were tender, and the portion size was more than enough for one person. I tasted the vegan ramen, and this was so flavorful!!! You're not missing the meat on this one since the flavor profile carries this dish on its own. I love the fact that you can have delicious hand rolls and ramen at this establishment. It's definitely a solid ramen place to visit when you're in the area. Customer service was excellent, and the waiter and wait staff were super attentive.
google avatar

Kristen K.

Yelp
Ramen is definitely the highlight here. Vegan ramen was okay and on the thicker side, I appreciate that they do now keep a meatless option on the menu as when they first opened they did not always include one in their rotation. Enmi ramen was lighter though definitely still had strong pork broth taste. Sushi was fair but overall underwhelming. Strangely, croquettes tasted better after we let them sit for a while than when they first came out - initially they did not taste very strongly of crab and did not have much taste at all. Prices in general are a few dollars higher than other ramen joints in the city.

Yelp
This place is so underrated, my mom and I had an absolute EXPERIENCE with this food. Walking in, the staff were super welcoming, and it's the perfect space to go on a nice but not stuffy dinner in a small group setting. We were able to get seated pretty quickly in spite of it being Family Weekend--the place was not as full as I'd expect! The menu is kind of confusing, and leaves out a lot of information that I had to clarify. For example, the ramen section doesn't list the common topping of pork or what kind of broth is used. The sushi section oddly just says "sushi" (without a size description) even though everything is a hand roll--they could have been more specific. I'm familiar with Japanese cuisine, but definitely would have benefited from more descriptions on the appetizers. In any case, our waiter was very helpful with my questions! Onto the FOOD--everything was really really good! Enmi ramen: 4.5/5. This was my ramen, and it was so nourishing! I do wish the yuzu flavor was stronger given that's what is advertised, but nonetheless it was a comforting and delightful bowl. I really like the bite that their thin noodles have. Umami ramen: 4.5/5. My mom's ramen, and she loved it! It's your classic ramen with all the fixings. I think it might have been too heavy for me personally to have a full bowl of, but it was perfect for her. Chicken karaage: 4.5/5. Tender and well fried, but nothing super special! This was a great side dish to pair with the ramen. Torotaku fatty tuna hand roll: 2/5. Sadly this one had really stale seaweed, you could smell it from a good distance away. The toro itself was just mediocre. Unagiinu eel hand roll: 4/5. Yummy but nothing special! Black sesame ice cream with Japanese sweet potato: 5/5, MUST GET!! The ice cream by itself is fantastic, but the real star is the sweet potato!! Omg, I need to learn how to make this at home. It was perfectly caramelized but soft on the inside, and the perfect complement to the ice cream. So glad I got to try this place out while in Boston. Would definitely come back next time I'm in town!

Yelp
Located in the Harvard Square, which makes parking tough but public transport easy. The staff were all very nice. Low lightning dining area with a brightly lit open kitchen design if you like to watch the kitchen. I really like the ramen here. I like that they use different thickness of noodles for different ramen broths/flavors. I do wish that the menu was labeled with the different thicknesses of ramen. I had the karami one which wasn't too spicy. Anyone who is hesitant about trying something potentially spicy, I'd say this one is safe. I had the Japanese sweet potato with black sesame ice cream which was also really good. I wasn't sure what to expect for the sweet potato, but I think the way they cooked it gave a good overall texture that compliments the ice cream. The scallop carpaccio wasn't what I expected. I personally don't like olives, so I probably wouldn't get it again.

Yelp
I had a fantastic experience getting lunch here! Not too crowded, bathroom was clean, decor is nice and there's plenty of seating for both solo/2-3 people and larger groups. Service was very fast and the server was extremely kind and attentive. The food was delicious and a good value for the serving sizes. I got the lunch special which I would definitely recommend. The umami ramen is SO GOOD, the texture of the noodles was absolutely perfect. I got the green salad, I wasn't a fan but the table next to me got the chashu rice and really liked it, that's what I would opt for next time. The gyoza were perfect, the sauce served with it was really delicious. The cucumber sushi was a little strange but I enjoyed it! Overall really lovely lunch spot especially on a rainy & chilly day.

Yelp
The ambiance and service was very nice! The tavern was intimate (without being too dark or moody). The service was very attentive, our water glasses were never empty, and our dishes were always bussed quickly (without being too rushed). The food was overall very good! The Ponzu shishito leaned heavily on soy and less on citrus, and they were slightly drowning in the sauce at the bottom of the bowl. The karaage was crispy and juicy! The karaage had a slight (yet noticeable) soy marinade - which was delicious. We also had the hand-rolls which had such generous portions! The nori had a slight bitter taste that I was not expecting. We also tried the karami ramen (not pictured), and the broth was delicious and the noodles were thick and bouncy! Overall, we had a great first experience and would come back!

Yelp
I love the Yelp community, but they're always wrong. Especially when it comes to Harvard Square. Donuts the shape, color and taste of sponges - 5 stars. Delicious, carefully crafted bowls of soup magic - 4 stars. Bosso is unique in that not only is it a good ramen place, it's also a good place. Like, a place you want to actually spend time in. Contrast that to Santouka, Yume Wo Katare, all the nonsense in Boston where people wait in line to have people put corn in their ramen. It's so classy you can almost forget the reason you're there is to stick your face in a bowl of pork fat. They have a really nice selection of sake and a staff that's more than willing to tell you why, no, they will not warm it up for you, you philistine. The ramen itself is really interesting. I'm not going to say it's authentic or traditional because anyone concerned with that in Harvard square needs to look around. There's some interesting ones in there like the one with tomatoes (sanmi) and the yuzu one (enmi). Each is pretty different and it's a little more exciting than just the standard miso or tonkotsu types. This isn't really a quick bite place, there are other nice ramen shops for that (Menya Jiro, Santouka if you're desperate). But this is a one you can take a date. If they don't mind you slurping, they're a keeper. The sushi hand rolls are...cute. I wouldn't say they're worth it, though. The appetizers are all really interesting, though it's kind of a toss up whether they're actually tasty.

Yelp
Came here for dinner last night with my sister and some friends! We made a reservation beforehand and were seated pretty quickly. The service was pretty attentive, though they did forget our dipping sauce for our fries. The food was delicious! I loved the croquettes and ramen especially! The ambience was also pretty good with nice vibes for a cute dinner with friends.

Yelp
Wow! Truly impressed with this new-ish Ramen restaurant! I've been wanting to come here for a long time, but can never find its posted hours. I finally got an opportunity to visit. I decided to ask the server and they said they open daily from 12 - 2 PM and from 5 - 10 PM. I'm impressed that they manage to offer a nice partially covered outdoor area on the busy Holyoke street. The inside area is nice and spacious. I remember this used to be a Thai restaurant (which was subpar and lackluster). I love this new interior open kitchen style, perfect for this Japanese spot! The menu is perfect with the right combination of alcoholic beverage and ramen + sushi selection. They menu is straightforward and yet offers a bit of everything for ramen lovers. I tried the fries, chicken karaage, and the enmi ramen. The portion size is small, but that's the standard for Japanese restaurants. The service is friendly, and I love the fact that they offer a scan to pay method where you can use your Apple Pay. Very convenient! The Sakura saku drink was also good, barely any alcohol in it but it was a good summer drink. The inside air ventilation was very good (CO2 below 600) right at opening. It got crowded very quickly (busy after around 5:30 PM). So outdoor dining is definitely an option. 5 stars to support local business! Will be back again!
google avatar

Helena Q.

Yelp
A decent ramen -- the karami ramen was especially bouncy and the soup pretty tasty -- but at $18 for a pretty small quantity, the price felt high. (The ramen bowl was on the small side and less than half full...) I then had the black sesame ice cream with sweet potato ($9) because I was still hungry, but the ice cream was also only okay. Very elastic, not a lot of sesame flavor. Service is pretty fast and it wasn't very crowded for dinner on Monday. It's a fine option, but pretty pricey.
google avatar

Sophie B.

Yelp
Had the ramen lunch special with the Enmi Ramen and Charsu Rice. It was a perfect serving size. Finished my meal not too full and definitely not hungry. The flavors of the Enmi Ramen were really good. I liked the citrus peels in it , it was a good thick broth. Maybe a little too salty but overall delicious.

Yelp
I came here on a Saturday afternoon and it was pretty empty inside. Bosso is located in Harvard Square so parking is tough and I ended up parking at the Charles Hotel Garage. They're open everyday for lunch and dinner and close in between from 2:30 - 5pm. I would recommend not coming in after 1:30 or you will feel rushed. Last call for food was 2pm and they kicked us out by 2:15. You can make a reservation on Resy, but if you miss your reservation they may charge you $10 per person. I ordered the Ramen Lunch Combo which includes a ramen, choice of appetizer, and sushi hand roll. I chose the Spicy Norisuke ramen, Chicken Karaage, and Sushi Spicy Salmon hand roll. The karaage was dry and didn't come with any sauce. The ramen was acceptable, but the noodles had a strange texture and the broth wasn't flavorful. The salmon hand roll was the best item I had. For a lunch combo plus tax and tip it came out to $34 so it is expensive. The service was average.

Yelp
Fabulous restaurant experience. I was one of a party of eight and everyone enjoyed the food, atmosphere, and service. Only one of our party had eaten there before and recommended Bosso. Beautiful presentation of each item we ordered. Our server, Brianna, was exceptionally personable. The music was rather loud however, we were able to enjoy the restaurant and our friends. Thanks! Will recommend!

Yelp
I came here with some friends who lived in Somerville. The appetizers were very tasty. We tried the ponzu shishito, chicken karaage, and I had the karami ramen, which was delicious. Recommend adding the egg. The cocktails were good, though they were smaller than your average cocktail. We ate outside, which had a nice ambiance with string lights (this was early October). Service was decent. Would recommend, as would my friend, who also went there the night before our dinner.
google avatar

Jan R.

Yelp
We hadn't planned on dining here, but I'm so glad we did. The ramen far exceeded our expectations, especially considering its location near campus. I had anticipated overpriced, mediocre food with subpar service, but I was pleasantly surprised. The ramen was rich in flavor and truly satisfying. The real standout was the exceptional service we received from Bryanna. She was incredibly patient and attentive with our group of seven, ensuring we had everything we needed. Thank you, Bryanna, for your outstanding hospitality. Your warm and accommodating service made our experience truly enjoyable. We greatly appreciate it.

Yelp
We did not make reservations as we went on a Monday night and we went in early and got seats at the bar. The place was busy for a monday night-may be because of long weekend. This place is not one for small talk and could be more welcoming. They welcome each guest but it's more of a routine than a genuine welcome. This is understandable especially when the kitchen is busy. It took them a while to bring beer.the Sake mojito was amazing-so smooth. We had a smoke salmon appetizer with potato which was okay-the olive oil had an after taste. The ramen dishes were the star and very delicious. The tables are too close to each other and we felt lucky to be at the bar..nice place for special occasions. I would sit at the bar again-no tables for me.
google avatar

Catherine S.

Yelp
Yummy and quick! A nice ramen shop in the heart of Harvard. You will need to scan the QR code, order and pay from your phone first before food is delivered. Everything you order, you must pay first in your phone before the server brings you the items. Very minimal interactions with the staff.

Daphne J.

Yelp
What an outstanding place! The staff was incredibly hospitale and thoughtful - they had a true genuine approach. (Loved the greeting at the entrance - please keep doing that!) I also have to highly compliment the staff availability. There was enough staff to cover the whole restaurant - it wasn't just one waiter covering 50 tables, or one chef doing 50 meals. I also have to mention one very thoughtful moment: as soon as I drank some water, a waiter flew to me instantly to pour some more. They were just constantly attentive and at service, with a constant smile on their face. Just wow - what a professional team! We had sushi, ramen, cocktails and desserts. All unbelievably tasteful! The ramen was something else, and even sushis had different flavors and a personal touch. Have in mind - their sushis are much larger than the standard; I highly recommend trying them! This is definitely a place I will keep returning to. Bosso earned it's name - because it's the boss among the restaurants. Great job! All Harvard tourists, this is where you want to go for lunch/dinner!

Yelp
Punchy, chewy ramen noodles. Clean, flavorful, deep broth. Perfectly crispy and still light side of karage and grilled peppers. Straightforward menu. Thoughtful, enthusiastic staff.
google avatar

Samantha C.

Yelp
I've been here twice now and it's been great each time. Servers are friendly and attentive, the food is delicious and comes out pretty quick, and their sake selection and cocktails are great. I personally love the karami ramen, as well as the tuna avocado and spicy salmon hand rolls. Besides this, the atmosphere is nice and cozy and great for a date or dinner with friends.
google avatar

Ashok J.

Yelp
If you like authentic Japanese Ramen noodles and sushi, this is the place for you. Service was excellent. We walked in late but they made dinner possible. Ambiance however was more like a tavern.
google avatar

Angela S.

Yelp
I walked in with really high hopes since Bosso had such cool vibes aand then I left not impressed. The drinks were really good and the appetizers were decent- but pretty small portions. However, the ramen really had me disappointed. The meat was kind of dry and there was not really many other toppings that were included. I was full and happy with the soup and noodle quality but it wasn't a satisfying ramen bowl. The black sesame ice cream WAS AMAZING though. Very nutty and definitely one of the best ones I've had in Boston. All in all, not particularly worth it when there are other better ramen spots around Harvard/Cambridge.
google avatar

Amanda C.

Yelp
Thrilled there's a new ramen establishment in Cambridge. Lots of misses in the past year, and I'm glad Bosso is here to change that trend. I had the umami ramen, which is sort of an upscaled ramen. If you want your huge oily bowl of ramen, you will be better heading out to Porter Square to stand in line for Yuma Wo Katare. Bosso's offering is an elegant bowl of ramen with perfectly al dente noodles, and tiny sliced chashu pork with a soft boiled half egg balanced on top. The flavor of the broth was out of this world -- setting it above other ramen restaurants in the area. I also had the spicy salmon roll (since the ramen was a fairly light bowl - probably my only complaint because I was hungry!) which was fresh and delicious, made with high quality fish and dressed to match. The drink I had was the sakura sake cocktail - nothing too special here, and would be interested to try something else. We also shared the ice cream at the end, and the waiter was nice enough to put together a custom ice cream with a scoop of both the matcha and black sesame, with caramelized sweet potato on the side. Very punchy flavors, highly recommend trying this because it's definitely a unique dish. All in all a very nice dinner - certainly is slightly on the more expensive side for sushi/ramen given the amount of food per dish, but the quality was excellent and therefore makes it onto my list of regulars for ramen. Service staff were very cheery and nice - a nice addition to the dining experience. Will be excited to come back! But not when I'm mega hungry, because then I'll rack up a huge bill :)

Yelp
Came here as a party of two a little before 12:30pm on a Saturday. The place was pretty much empty, but gradually filled up by the time we left. I really appreciate the decor and how cozy, yet modern it feels. There's a QR code at your table for you to order, but a paper menu is available upon request (it has more detailed descriptions for specific dishes). We split the gyoza and each ordered our own lunch specials. In addition to my umami ramen, I also got the eel sushi, which I was surprised came with egg as well. For dessert we split a matcha ice cream. I was really pleased with the food, which was more than enough to fill us. I would definitely come back, especially considering how value the lunch special is. The hostess/server was also really friendly. At one point, a man came in and rudely asked to use the restroom, and when he was reasonably turned away, he made a big fuss about it. Unfortunate that she had to deal with that by herself, but I thought she handled it well.

Yelp
This spot is the best spot to get ramen in Harvard Square! Their sushi is even more impressive. The portions (both ramen and sushi) are on the smaller side. I tried the yuzu scallop sushi ($8) which had a very fresh, buttery piece of raw scallop on top. I was extremely impressed by their sushi rice-- each grain held its own while being perfectly cooked through and chewy. They are not shy about adding vinegar to their rice, but it's not overly sour. The combination of savory, tart sushi rice with fresh scallops and crispy nori really hit the spot. We got the umami ($16) and karami ($18) ramen. The umami ramen came with thin noodles while the karami ramen came with thick noodles. The thin noodles tasted more al dente while the thick noodles were chewier and bouncier. The black garlic oil in the umami ramen added a savory kick without being pungent. I felt like the flavor of the umami broth was much more complex than the karami, which wasn't spicy at all to me. Both ramen bowls came with some thin, tender slices of chashu pork. I personally prefer fattier cuts of chashu but I appreciated that the chashu here could melt in your mouth. The ground pork/beef in the karami ramen was forgettable. I could see myself coming back for their sushi since it is made so well here! The quality of their ramen is great, although I'm usually in the mood for a different vibe (and slightly larger portions) when I crave ramen.

Yelp
This place feels very catered towards rich white people / stereotypical Harvard Square? Food was okay but very overpriced. Egg and eel hand roll - the egg overpowered the very little amount of eel. I love and crave unagi but this did not satisfy that craving at all. 2/5 Yuzu scallop hand roll - scallops were very sweet and fresh! But it was chopped up and the rice was awfully sweet too so everything was just a homogenous glob. The ratio of filling to rice is also disappointingly low, you end up with so much rice on the bottom and soggy nori that's hard to bite through. 2/5 Shishito - seasoned with ponzu, solid and basic. 3/5 Chicken karaage - highlight of the night! The breading was not too thick, light and delicately crispy but could have been crunchier. The meat itself was tender, juicy, succulent with gelatinous bits and nice briney flavor. The portion is quite small though. 4/5 Umami ramen - not bad! The broth was porky and nostalgic tasting but thinner in viscosity so maybe the broth isn't stewed for that long to extract all the collagen? Noodles were very Al dente, pork slices were dry, egg was too peppery. Definitely needed the raw onion on top for freshness!

Yelp
Delicious food, trendy ambience, and amazing service! The last time I came here with a friend, it was a PACKED Friday evening- the host noticed us waiting for awhile and brought us over some shots of sake. We unfortunately had to leave to make a movie, but I have wanted to come back and try it ever since. This time, a friend and I met up for dinner here. The hostess was very friendly, patient, and accommodating when we thought for a bit that our reservation was going to almost double in size. Sake cocktails- cute and tasted fine, but for the size/price, I would opt for something else to drink next time Bosso Sushi (handrolls)- I got the unigyu and my friend got the charshu wasabi mayo. Both were delicious, and a good size. Ramen- I got the umami ramen (pictured). The flavors of the broth and black garlic oil were rich and satisfying without being too decadent. The gooey egg had some powdered seasoning on it that uplifted it. Finally, the noodles were the best part- thin and perfectly al dente. Next time I'm back I will definitely be trying some of their other appetizers and some of their sake selection. Overall a bit on the pricey end so I would not go here for a quick/casual bowl (although why not?). More of a nicer place for a date or to get together with some friends. Would definitely recommend getting an online reservation if you can (I couldn't find their phone number when trying to make one).

Yelp
The vibe of this place is amazing. It's small and cozy and when you enter, everyone yells "welcome to Bosso". You feel like your family here. You can see into the kitchen, which is rare in Boston! I got the vegan ramen which had soy meat. I'm usually not a fan but this soy meat had an umami punch of flavor that was a nice contrast again the citrusy broth. The walnuts and cashews with the bok Choy was delicious as well. Strongly recommend getting the sushi, I got the vegan kombu which came in the a cute tofu pocket with seaweed!

Yelp
Friends recommended this place near Harvard Square, and when I saw it had a yuzu based ramen, I was sold. I had their enmi ramen, which had scallion, yuzu skin and yellow yuzu oil. I enjoyed the depth of their yuzu flavor in their broth, as well the chew of the noodle. It can get quite busy given its proximity to Harvard, so would definitely recommend getting reservations especially if you're in a larger group. Their ramen is definitely on the smaller side, ~2/3 the size of other spots in Boston, so if you're going for that, you'll probably need to add appetizers.

Yelp
This place is literal fire emoji - so good! We came here to celebrate a friend's graduation and we're able to snag a reservation the night before. The exterior of the restaurant looked super sleek and the inside was modern and clean. They have a rotating menu that changes day to day based on the fresh ingredients available. For sake, there were several portion sizes (cup, share, or bottle) - the "share" size was perfect for 3 people without having to go all-in on a bottle. For apps, we really enjoyed the chicken karaage (some of the best I've had in Boston!) and shishito peppers. We also tried one of their salmon sushi rolls which was good but probably wouldn't get again. The star of the show was the umami ramen - literal perfection in a bowl! The broth was so delicious and the toppings were simple but paired nicely. There were two thin slices of pork that I thought tasted more like beef but were nonetheless wonderful. We finished the meal by trying their black sesame and matcha ice creams - I'm normally a huge matcha fan but I actually liked the black sesame more (both were great though)! Prices were very reasonable, and all in all a great meal.

Yelp
They don't post their hours online, and google / yelp says they close at 2:30 in the afternoon. We messaged them on instagram to confirm they were open on Monday and they said yes. We came just before 2:00 and they were closed despite having their doors open. Just a super unwelcoming experience

Yelp
This was a good spot I guess- I had the Spicy Norisuke and my brother had the Umami ramen, both were good but the bill was a bit pricy for what it was. The noodles were pretty firm which I liked, and the broth wasn't too spicy- just right. I'd maybe go back.. just because I heard their many appetizers are where it's at, not their ramen. The servers welcomed you when you come in which is nice, and the space has a nice vibe- music was a little bit too loud though.

Yelp
Read this as a 3.5 review. I got handrolls and ramen, but I like the handrolls more. 4/5 for handrolls, 3/5 for the ramen. We got 4 different handrolls. Spicy Salmon ($6.5) and Yuzu Scallop ($7) were my favorites. Unagiinu Eel ($8) was good, but a bit on the sweeter side. The Torotaku ($6.5) was a miss for me - I couldn't taste much of the fatty tuna. Umami Ramen ($15) Broth was rich in pork flavor and the noodles were perfectly al dente. However, I wasn't a fan of the toppings. The flavored egg wasn't like the typical ramen egg with the soft gooey yolk and it had a strange after-taste. There were only 2 thin slices of chashu which were leaner than I expected. Spicy Norisuke ($17) The broth was spicy but light in pork flavor. The portion was smaller than the cheaper Unami Ramen and this one had no egg. I think for the price, it should at least have an egg. Overall, I liked the ambience and everyone is extremely friendly and welcoming. I may go back to try the other handrolls, but skip the ramen.

Yelp
I looked at Yelp for new restaurants to try before visiting Boston and Bosso was on my list. They now offer online reservations through Resy. I came when it opened and there were a few other patrons. I sat on the counter where there's an open kitchen; I definitely recommend sitting on the counter. I only ordered handrolls: torotaku, spicy salmon and yuzu scallop. My favorite was the spicy salmon, but nothing mind blowing. I would maybe order the spicy salmon again, but not the torotaku and yuzu scallop. It was mostly rice with little fish/seafood, where some bites was just rice and nori. I do like the presentation. Next time, I would skip the handrolls and try the other dishes. Service was great, food came quickly and the interior was modern and simple. I would rate it a 3.5/5 but will round up to a 4/5.

Yelp
3.5 / 5 Umami Ramen - Noodle texture was excellent, straight noodles with just the right amount of el dente firmness. The soup base with rich with pork bone flavor but was missing something from the flavor profile. 3 / 5 Karami Ramen - Curly noodles was great for grabbing up soup but the this really reminds me of Tan Tan Mein since it was essentially spicy ground beef sitting in spicy oiliness. The taste was very heavy and masked a lot of the flavor. Wasn't a big fan. Big disappointment was that sushi menu wasn't available that day. That was a big point of us going since we read the reviews and the pics of the sushi looked really good! Didn't deduct any points though, can't blame them for not having sushi available but folks should call ahead to make sure if that's what they're expecting.
