Botanica Garden Center

A very beautiful and magical place. I’ve bought plants there in the winter, and the first thing I noticed when I walked in was the calm presence of the owner — there’s a lot of peace in that space. The music adds to it, and it feels like the plants are happy there. It’s a very lovely and humble place, and I really appreciated the warmth of the owner.

Easy access by car or public transportation. We'll organized, very nice and welcoming staff, beautiful gardens and exhibits, suitable for school group as well.

I visited a few days ago and was instantly hit with the smell of rot. After walking around the shop, it was clear that many of the plants were sick, dying, and not properly taken care of.

Decided to go by today and check it out for myself after reading reviews, I did end up purchasing Cilantro for the season but also because I love to use it in my meals. I will say, they have a large variety of succulents which are my favorite but they are also a bit pricey. Not too expensive because I’ve seen “worse” although their prices aren’t “bad” I’d say it’s okay because the quality of their plants is outstanding. They’re also very educated on what they sell. They have a nice selection of pots! If you’re not looking for the average copper kind of color the only other options they have are 12+ which honestly is okay because they look great! I did check my cilantro once I got home, everything was great, soil, roots, perfection! I think I want to go back! After reading reviews, please do not buy a plant if you aren’t going to take proper care of it. Do not over water! Major cause of root rot & death of plant. Also, adequate sunlight is essential depending on plants needs!

I recently moved in and needed a pot fro a new plant, they had the perfect modern, basic ceramic pot I couldn’t seem to find elsewhere. I paid a pretty penny for it but glad to have them in the neighborhood. Overall too expensive but useful!

I will never be buying here again! I followed the exact instructions and my monstera died in LESS THAN A MONTH! It was extremely pricy and I found out it had rooted rot. I saw the poor plant dying slowly every day since I got it. I didn’t over water it or put it with direct sun. It got me so frustrated that I had to repot it in the third week. I thought it worked but the next week but I found out the bottom leaves were turning yellow and droopy and the stems kept of dying and turning black and mushy. I’m SO disappointed because I spent 80 dollars on this plant and I really wanted it since mad long ago and it turns out that all I got was a messed up plant. Don’t buy here or if you’re going to, make sure they repot it into your new pot and check the roots. Here are some pictures ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️

Seems like a lot of other reviews were intended for the Brooklyn Botanical Garden, which is a totally different place. This is a gardening shop which offers house plants, annuals and some perennials in their backyard. The staff is great and very helpful every time I visit. They give me great gardening tips.

I can't say enough good things about Botanica Garden Center! The staff was so knowledgable about plants, so generous with their time and assistance. They recommended a money tree (non toxic to cats ) which I wouldn't have thought of and I love! They potted the plant in a beautiful holder I purchased (and love) and delivered it for $10. The delivery man was prompt and delightful. Botanica is my new garden center, for sure!!

I visited this shop for the first time to pick up a new plant for my bedroom. The gentleman working there helped me by recommending a few selections, albeit the selections were limited. I decided on a small snake plant and a clay plant saucer, which he indicated would be twenty dollars and some change. He even showed me the price input on the cash register. After I made the purchase on my card, I later realized that he had charged me a much higher price than what he showed me originally. It could have been a mistake, but it seems more like a sleazy move to get more $$ if you ask me. I will be going back to the shop tomorrow to request a refund and return the plant completely. There are plenty of other plant shops that have larger + healthier-looking selections and more honest service than this shop.

About two years ago my boyfriend bought me an anthurium from here as a gift. I thought I was horrible with plants but this thing has grown beautifully and is blossoming. Occasionally I stop by and see the selection and look around. Two weeks ago I actually purchased a calathea plant from here (fingers crossed). The owner was very nice to me and a few other customers who were shopping around. He answered all of our questions and was very knowledgeable. He suggested that I repot my anthurium, and recommended which's pots and soil to use. I would say shop around before stopping here. I am glad I did because the prices are a little high. I purchased a plant pot from another nursery which cost me $25 bucks, at Botanica the same pot was priced at $40.

I'm looking for plants native to New York. Native plants sequester, or remove, carbon from the air. They provide shelter and food for wildlife & what folks don't realize is a delicate ecosystem just hanging on here. Native plants promote biodiversity. It's not hard- but they don't carry them at all.

I have bought quite a few plants at this store totaling at almost a grand.. the last plant I bought was overpriced at almost $300 but was beautiful and I decided to splurge .. . they delivered and potted it for me. unfortunately after a few days I realized that the huge plant they delivered to me was infested with millipedes .. I am talking 100's maybe thousands. when I went to the store all they could tell me is that nothing they sell is under any sort of guarantee, and that I am pretty much screwed. even though I just bought this plant a few days before - if this was my first purchase at this store I would be a bit calmer - but being that I spent a lot of money there I was expecting them to at least deal with the major problem they created and delivered to me.. I will not buy there again and will try to warn people from doing the same. horrible experience. be careful.

Cute store! I have a decently black thumb but the spider and pothos plants I purchased here years ago are still thriving and have multiplied (even though I took them to the brink of death). Probably not the cheapest but they are very nice, knowledgeable and will repot for you. Stop by and check it out

Love this store--it's our go-to for beautifully cared for plants and pots. Everyone who works there is wonderfully helpful and knowledgeable. Can't recommend it more.

Expensive plants, but a hell of a selection. Giant yard with even more plants. Guy running the place was helpful enough. He'll give you detailed instructions on how to take care of whatever you buy.

What a nice little shop! I bought this beautiful string of bananas today. It's quite difficult to find a mature, long succulent. I was excited but when the gentleman brought it down, you could see it very very dry and needed watering. He gave me a discount for that alone. And now I have a beautiful plant which gives my home character

I bought a large yucca tree here & they potted it for me. It slowly began to die & I had to dispose of it less than a year later. Throughout its decline, I went back to the shop twice w/ pictures on my phone to ask for advice on my dying tree. Both times I was given a very dismissive answer by the owner/manger. He didn't care to look at the pictures I took. After doing some more extensive research, it turns out the yucca was potted incorrectly; wrong sort of soil & unable to drain properly.

Do not go in the winter. Everything is dead with exception of the greenhouses and you still have to pay full price

Beautiful plants inside and outside that are well cared for. Good vibe. Decent prices. Nuf said.

A great plant shop with very knowledgeable people. They'll repot for you and give you detailed instructions on how to take care of whatever you buy. My daughter made a bit of a mess in there today and they were good spirited about it - a huge plus in this neighborhood!

The Hispanic staff were extremely friendly and gave me tips on how to revive my succulent plants. Why the 1 star? The old man (maybe the owner) is a racist. Didn't say a word to me while me ringing up. Looked at me as if I was scum he found on his shoes. When leaving the premise he shouted "ni hao". After realising I should not pay a racist I went back to get my refund. I told him the owner he cannot treat me like that and he had the audacity to pretend he never served me because there were other customers in the store.

Buy local? Yes we can! My succulent arrangement (Succy 1.0) met its untimely death as we moved cross country this horrific winter. Now that NY is warming up, I'm ready to create Succy 2.0. I like doing my own mix arrangement and was glad to see Botanica has a great selection of succulents in all sizes, starting at super cute mini 2in pots. The plants here all seem healthy - tough to do since it has been a stinking hot week! there were all sorts of arrangement inspirations for me to draw from in the store. A really great curation of seasonally relevant plants. The staff is very knowledgable and we had a great chat about green stuff :) It ain't big box store/ wholesale market cheap, but certainly not out of control prices either. Very much worth it to support local business. What a great find for me!

I was very much looking forward to visiting this boutique and possibly snagging some amazing succulents. Upon arrival I was very disappointed. Most succulents were poor quality, damaged and had leaves fallen off. They were all severely over priced for the quality. $5.99 for the smallest 2 inch succulent. The largest were $14.99 and had 5+ leaves fallen off. High prices and low quality. The staff did not help me at all and stood around talking with each other instead of helping customers. I was very sad to see the conditions after reading such good reviews.

After visiting a few nurseries/flower shops around Brooklyn, I was excited to see if this place would top any of the other places. I was hoping to find some either mid sized succulents or indoor house plants. They definitely have a good variety of plants, just not exactly what I was looking for. Their succulents selection were mostly all mini and too small for my liking. As for the house plants, I found a few but the price didn't beat other places. I did have a mini cactus that fell out of its clay pot, which ended up breaking. So I had to revive it somehow with new soil and plant it back in a pot. The worker was nice enough to take care of it for me and I only had to pay $4 for the new pot. I have gone to another store where they would have charge to repot a plant, so the service is really good here.

Atlantic Ave is a huge street and so many cars that Botanica is a nice little green hideaway. The guy at the counter was not very knowledgeable but another guy who seemed more like an owner or at least a veteran of the store did know a lot more and was helpful. Sadly, they did not have the product I wanted. They do have a nice selection though of organic items and it has a large backyard full of succulents, shrubs and plants. Not many flowers. If you are looking for supplies this is a good spot.

We went there a couple of weeks ago and asked about a low maintenance plant that could thrive in medium luminosity. The owner recommended a Japanese peace lily which, while being fairly easy to maintain, is very dramatic and starts drooping as soon as it needs water. The owner had given us care instructions which turned out to be ridiculously inaccurate. We thought it was dying, and we were making things worse by following his advice. On top of that, he charged us to pot the plant on location and did a terrible job ; blocking the plant's draining hole and giving us a terracotta pot which it turns out dries out the soil -- this is a plant that likes moist soil! The plant is fine as we caught on early, but we paid way too much money for just terrible advice and service. Don't bother with them.

I've been coming here regularly and have bought many plants here for the past year since moving to the neighborhood. I have always loved this shop. Last week I bought an ivy here and within two days it was drying up. After 4 days it had an overwhelming spider mite infestation. I inspected all of my plants and didnt see any signs of mites on other plants. I am almost positive that they came from the store. I went and looked at the other ivys that were next to mine in the store and one looked like it had signs of mites although I did not see any actual mites on the plant. I went back today and even though they have a very strict no refunds policy, they did bend the rules for me and refund the plant. I have always had the sweetest interactions with the people who run this shop but this time they were defensive even though the situation was pretty clearly their fault. I just hope the rest of my plants don't get infested now!!! I'm so sad to say it because I've always loved this store and the plants always look so healthy here, but after this I will not go back.

I bought 2 identical plant pots here, and one of them cracked. I called to see if I can buy the exact same pot (to match the unbroken one) and they were completely incompetent and useless. Go to Chelsea Garden Center in Red Hook - much more helpful, competent staff, wider selection, and better prices! I told them I can send them pictures and dimensions of the pot so that they can check their inventory to see if they had it (and save me a trip to the store). They claimed they could not receive any pictures from me because they have no computer, no access to the internet, and no one in the store has a smartphone (really?! How do you run a business in 2018 without internet access?!). I then physically went there to show them the pictures - they did not have it in stock, so I asked them who their supplier was (again I was trying to get the exact same pot to match the one I already have). He had no clue, only the owner knows. "Ok, so when can I speak with the owner?" He had no idea when he/she would next be there, and could not give me an email or number. I have never seen a business so actively try to stop customers from buying stuff from them! Terrible.

Great neighborhood flower shop. Much more reasonable prices than other spots in the neighborhood, a good selection, and helpful service. They'll even pot plants you buy for you if you bring your pot in, which I've found helps them live longer. My go-to for air plants, succulents, cacti, etc.

Is anyone else totally obsessed with succulent plants? Lately, any time I see a farmers market or garden center I am checking out their selection of succulents. So glad I stumbled across the Botanica Garden Center. This shop is small in size but mighty in variety. Prices per plant were on par with what I've seen at the Union Square Market or Home Depot but it was the staff that really stood out. The fellas at BGC really knew what they were talking about and you just don't get that same attention when you visit one of those box chains (read: shop local!) Such a great little garden center, you've got to stop by!

YOU HAVE TO COME HERE! In Park Slope we don't have many options for garden & plant businesses and the ones that are around are far more limited. Botanica Garden Center not only has great customer service but SO much variety of plants you will honestly have a hard time choosing what to take home. We spent a good hour there just to figure out what else to take home other then the initial plant we came for. Beautiful direct sun plants, yearly plants, indoor plants, large outdoor space plants, air plants, cactus of all sorts, flowers, and more. Great and easy location too. Just go there.

I bought the cutest cactus here!!! Love their selections. Bought 3 tiny plants for about $22. There's a huge outdoor garden in the back too.

Botanica has a great selection of plants year round and I've gotten some beauties here. I love stopping to pick up a plant or two or just to window shop. The staff are helpful, and just the right amount of chatty/friendly. The prices do seem a little high though - I always feel like they should be charging about 20% less. But the location and the quality of the store keep bringing me back!

We love this place. We have a roof top floral garden which they designed and replant every year. I'd never have the continuous range of flower and amazing weeping trees with out them. We have flowers all season and a wonderful herb garden too.

The service here is wonderful. The man answered all my questions because I didn't know much about plants and gardening. I wanted to get my mother a plant for her birthday and he was patient and gave me advice on what's best based on my interest (spiritual healing/air purifier). I can't wait to come back for the Spring when they get vegetable plants and the backyard is filled.

One of the best nurseries in Brooklyn! I came here looking for some hanging plants as well as some succulents. The prices are a little on the high side but the service and quality of the plants were top-notch. The older gentleman helped and guided me the entire time i was there, showing me the selection they had and also gave me suggestions on how to create the wall garden I've always dreamed of. He was very thorough with the care instructions for each plant I purchased and was very informative/knowledgeable. I would recommend this shop to anyone looking to add some nature into their space.

Good variety of plants, albeit a bit pricey, and mostly helpful staff-- very sweet and knowledgeable Hispanic man helped us pick out great plants. However, the man behind the register is extremely rude and unhelpful. It's a shame that he kind of ruined the experience for us. Just beware: avoid the tall, old white guy!

I stopped in to buy some air purifying plants for my apartment and was thrilled with the selection of plants and service I got from Antonio. He was very knowledgeable and patient with my many, many questions. Will definitely be back in the spring (if not sooner) to see the back yard!

This is a TERRIBLE TERRIBLE "Garden Center" they have sold us two plants that they assured us were right for our apartment conditions. We followed instructions to a T and both were dead within months. Big, expensive plants non the less. When I called to talk with them about this the person I spoke with could not have been more rude. He insulted me and hung up the phone. Do not purchase anything from this store, horrible people and horrible products.

Staff was very nice and helpful. The store is well organized. I am a new plant owner, so didn't feel very confident, but the staff provided a lot of support and knowledge. I got a fiddle leaf tree, and it's one of the best purchases I have ever made!

Good selection, healthy and attractive plants, friendly service and fair prices.

People here are nice but things are extremely over priced. For example, a mini cactus that could be found at many other places for $5 they sell it for $7.50. A little bigger ones they sell it for about $14 when other places have $10. As well as the succulent plants. Also, the plants here aren't taken care of good enough. There are more damage seen on the plants than any other stores I've been to.

I like this place. Prices are fair, though not cheap. I never feel like I'm getting a deal (aside from their little succulents collection!) though everything in the store is nice, organized and good quality.

The staff is friendly knowledgeable and helpful! We've gone there 2 springs in a row now and have been very happy with the results.

Very helpful and friendly staff, great selection of plants, pots, & supplies, and fair prices. Their location is also really convenient for anyone in (south) Bk, as they are only a block from the Atlantic Ave subway station (not so far from the G or F, either). I'll definitely be back, as my obsession with the succulent/cacti trend shows no sign of waning anytime soon. They have kits for air plants and terrarium supplies as well (perhaps my next project??).

The staff greeted me warmly when I walked in, then let me browse contentedly. All their plants are in good condition and they seem to have a high quality array of supplies, though I didn't look closely at those. An older man answered all of my questions thoughtfully and wrapped my purchases beautifully. It's the middle of winter so they mostly have tropical house plants, but I'm told there will be a huge selection of herbs and whatnot in the spring and I'm excited to return then.

Exceptional customer service & beautiful plants!!! I was so impressed with the service I received. I was looking for a tree for my apartment that would require low light, and was introduced to a lovely money tree. They re-potted it for me and delivered it for free to my apartment a half hour later. They were so friendly and accommodating. I also visited Dig down the road, but didn't think their selection was as nice as Botanica's. Would highly, highly recommend you visit Botanica!

The staff was nice and the selection was just decent. Many of the plants seemed to be too big for the pots and the prices were a bit inflated. I enjoy shopping at small local shops, but I did go to a big box the next day for a bigger, cheaper selection of pots. I picked up 3 plants and 3 lucky bamboo for $130. It's convenient for me but not the greatest selection. I'll stop by again closer to spring.

Very nice place! They have a good selection, healthy plants, and fair prices. But best of all, the staff is incredibly friendly. They remind me to check out the backyard about 2 times per visit. I love it there and wouldn't get plants from anywhere else!

Highly recommend this place! After visiting numerous nurseries and plant stores throughout the neighborhoods (from Red Hook to Brooklyn Heights), we found that Botanica is by far the most reasonably priced and friendly place there is. The selection is fantastic and the staff are helpful. Not only did they offer FREE delivery (which seems unheard of these days), they also gave us a ride home with our plants. We'll be back!

THE WORST owner EVER!! What a moron!! Stay away and go to Shannon or Kings Nursery if you want to support local business. Much better choices and customer service there anyway. It just happened a few hours ago - there was an orange cone blocking the metered parking area on the street so I moved it to the sidewalk to park legitimately, then an old, raggedy looking man stormed out the store shouting 'Move it back, you fucking bitch!!" --- EXCUSE ME?? He obviously assumed I moved it from wherever he originally put it ( there is a garage next door - probably attached to this asshole's business. Had I seen the cone there of course I respected it. I'm a business owner myself!) He continued yelling at me saying how he can quickly get the car towed, etc etc. I started to fear that this old man might be mentally disturbed so I left. I drive a large car and the space was a bit too small for my car anyway. But having lived in BK for 20 years I've never experienced such blatant disrespect by any business. Could it be because I'm an Asian? Is this business racist? I'm going to do major backyard revamp for the 3 townhouses I own in the area but this asshole will forever lose business from me. Good luck kissing and licking gentrifiers' butts. The locals are watching.

There are a few plant stores in the area but I find myself going back to Botanica. They have a really good selection of succulents--many small buds you can grow yourself and also larger jade plants if you don't want to wait forever. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable and happy to answer questions. Great selection of pots, too. Totally fair prices, too--not cheap, but plants are probably not a good thing to skimp on.

Lovely floral oasis on busy Atlantic Avenue. Service was friendly and the gentleman behind the counter was very knowledgable and helpful to a beginner like me. Looking forward to returning for their spring and summer selections!
