"The Andalé Management Group has put a cork in Botellón, its Spanish-influenced Castro District restaurant, which closes after less than a year in business. Botellón opened in January of this year at 2200 Market, taking over a snazzy corner space of a new development, where it replaced another relatively short-lived restaurant, Mexican-leaning bar and restaurant Hecho." - Caleb Pershan

"Botellón, a new Castro cocktail bar and restaurant at the flatiron corner of Market and 15th Streets, is ready to host the kinds of informal gatherings for which it’s named. El Botellón, literally meaning “big bottle,” is the Spanish habit of communal street drinking — but at this Botelllón, it’s probably best to keep the party inside the chic new space, which was designed by the firm Architecture + Light, than to bring the party outside onto Market Street. Botellón is the latest restaurant from the Andalé Management Group, which opened Mezcalito in Russian Hill in 2016 and runs the Andalé restaurants in Los Gatos and the San Francisco and Oakland airports. Now, they’ve taken on the space first occupied by Hecho (née Bandidos), which opened in 2014 and closed last spring. The updated space at 2200 Market boasts new lighting and murals from artists David Flores and Caroline Zarraga, but hews roughly to the same layout as its predecessor. The new restaurant also retains the cocktail focus that Hecho landed on near the end of its run, with Botellón’s drinks from Jesse Ostroski (Hog and Rocks, Hi Lo BBQ) and cocktail consultant Saul Ranella (La Mar, Hog Island Oyster Co). Those include many with mescal, like the Mission Statement (La Union mezcal, angostura amaro, lime, blood orange, honey), and several boozy slushy options including one with absinthe, sherry, and black cherry juice called Sherry, Cherry, and the Green Fairy. Botellón is billing its food as “California cuisine with Mediterranean influences,” and the menu comes from two executive chefs, Nicholas Andoe (Tavistock Restaurants LLC, Cherokee Nation Entertainment) and Matthew D’Ambrosi (Mezcalito, La Urbana, Waterbar, A.Sabella, Picco & Picco Pizzaria). It’s divided into sharable plates (chorizo oil cornbread, lamb pops, ribs), salads (beets three ways with burrata and pesto, baby kale with black quinoa), large plates (crab ravioli, burgers), and seasonal pizzas from a sizable stone hearth. Botellón quietly opened before the holidays and celebrates its grand opening tonight (January 17). Hours are 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Friday 5 p.m. to midnight, Saturday 4 p.m. to midnight, and Sunday 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Weekend brunch service is coming soon." - Caleb Pershan

Always easy to get bar seating on a week night. No happy hour specials but price is fairly reasonable for SF. Pork ribs were so tasty I wanted to have another order. Love coming here after work for a quick bite.

Stopped in for drinks and they have some new and inspiring cocktails to try. Their take on a Negroni made with Scotch missed the mark, but was palatable. "The Bitter Batch" was a godsend They've got a great wall filled with just about every spirit you would desire. It's definitely worth checking out.

I completely disagree that this place has their service "dialed in". Walked in and a visibly frazzled host said it would be about 15 minutes (which, would have been no problem and surprisingly short). Less than two minutes later, someone never seen again during the night, sat us down with menus. After a few minutes, app and drink order in - cool. A few minutes later - apps and water was on the table, but I had to get up myself after sitting with no flatware to enjoy the apps. We finished the apps before our drink order was finally brought out (by yet another new face). The special cocktails (City Lights was aromatically spicy, but not much kick in the drink itself and The Aromatic Aristocrat was sophisticated and easy to sip) was delightful. The pasta dishes were flavorful and clearly fresh. We were never checked in on during the meal, only when we were visibly done and waiting. We were serviced by at least five people and only saw the same person twice - very confusing. Conclusion: There's a serious disconnect between the back of the house and the front of the house. I'd give a 5/5 for the ambiance and everything coming out of the kitchen. It's that front of the house experience that ruined the experience. Hopefully they get it together. I'd love to come back and revise my review.

This is one of San Francisco's best kept secrets! Their food is great and pretty inexpensive! This is actually one of my favorite places to go for ribs. Their chef is from BBQ country and added these to the menu out frustration in not being able to find good BBQ in SF. Their cocktails are on point too!

Great food/drinks at reasonable prices. The atmosphere is incredible. Thrilled to finally have fantastic ribs in the city, the baby kale salad is delicious and refreshing, and the chorizo cornbread is just divine. Can't wait to explore the rest of the menu at this vibrant new restaurant

I'm surprised how quickly they've gotten their service dialed in. This must be a first for an SF restaurant. 😉 A great menu with lots of variety and good portions, plus delicious cocktails and an interesting wine list. Not too loud and crowded on a weeknight, hopping and boisterous on the weekends. And the interior is beautifully done! A big improvement on Hecho. You'd never guess it was from the same restaurant group as Andalé.

I was there on vacation with my family. The food was great and the cocktails even better. We try several items in the menu and my favorite was the smoke salmon appetizer. The price is reasonable and services very good. I will definitely be back in my next visit to San Francisco

My dinner mates enormous burger was served on a side plate, I guess to reinforce the lack of accompaniment. My mahi mahi dish was six bites severed late and cool. The side truffle fries were served hot and late, but under cooked. The drinks were excellent. The service surpassed the food. The decor and ambiance are spot on, rich and inviting. I hope they sort the kitchen issues because I’d like to like this place more.
