Best Lunch Spots in Asheville, North Carolina | Eater Carolinas

"Newly opened, this fast-casual space boasts a simple menu of Indian street food favorites (hello, matchstick okra fries) from James Beard 2022 Restaurant of the year, Chai Pani. The colorful and quirky dining room pairs effortlessly with the spice and savory notes of the restaurant’s bhel puri." - Lyndsay Cordell

Visiting this place for the first time. We absolutely enjoyed the Paneer Bowl, Tikka Paneer Roll, Gobi 65, Vada Pav and the Chai (that comes along with Parle G). The rice bowl and the paneer wrap was so filling and very flavorful. The Vada Pav was exactly like it was made in Mumbai along with the tea which was a great. We overall enjoyed our experience and I would highly come back again for the Vada Pav for sure.

Ordered take out- food was ready very fast I ordered it online and by the time I got there it was ready (7 minutes). Had 2 type of chicken skewers & naan. Chicken was very tasty with just a hint of spice. Cilantro sauce was amazing. The naan was soft, fluffy and delicious!

Ate here while staying at the Flat Iron hotel and it was so delicious!! I got the chicken wrap and the naan was so fluffy, the chicken was so well seasoned, it was overall so well rounded and good. I have been thinking about it since!

Thought we'd try it because years ago we heard there was a place in Asheville called Chai Pani that was a local hotspot for Indian food. This mustn’t be the same place. The menu should have keyed us in since it is billed as Indian street food rather than an Indian restaurant. Also, we were the only ones in there, but we were early. You order from a counter and they deliver the food to the table. The counter man explained what was on the menu and mentioned the things he liked. We had the Masala Smashed Potatoes. They are just fingerling potatoes that are smashed and crisped up with some spices. They were tasty, but not anything to write home about. The Gobi 65 was just essentially deep fried cauliflower. I had the lamb seek kabab roll. It was like a big gyro with decent sized ground lamb sausage with veggies and a yogurt sauce. My wife had the Malai Chicken Tikka roll which was essentially the same thing. The chicken was very tender and tasty. It’s not bad food, but nothing I’d be in a hurry to eat again.

Wow, hats off to these guys; they just turned this place to a perfect downtown style eatery and the main chai pani to other big place as a full service restaurant. The Botiwala is serving great food just the way they were serving it with Chai Pani. Every single thing on their menu is an awesome creation of their great experience. Staff is as always so courteous and cool. Despite of weekend rush hours they never show their exhaustion to the guests. The owner this place must be a great person. Don’t miss the gobi 65 and Kathi rolls.

Best Indian street food! The vibe and atmosphere is awesome and the staff is incredibly friendly. The food comes out fresh and fast. It is well-seasoned and the perfect amount of spicy. The chai also comes with Parle-G, which is the best addition. I definitely recommend stopping here whether you’re visiting Asheville or a native

We waited a long time only to find out someone had stolen our order (maybe accidentally?) However they took great care of us when the mistake was realized. Went above and beyond to get us food fast. And the food was delicious! Enjoyed the outdoor seating. Thank you for your kindness and making our experience better after our food was swiped! Xoxo

Yelp
Fried okra strips are great. Lamb rolls bowls, and salads are wonderful. Everything is very tasty. People are cool. Like Chai Pani, but lower prices and more casual. I have been here several times and it has been excellent every-time.

Yelp
We enjoyed our meal at Chai Pani and wanted to try their other concept. So glad we did. It's a little more casual - order at the counter, take a number, etc. But the food is still top notch. We ate: - Maharaja Lamb Burgers - Chicken Tikka Roll If you are considering those, go for it! Especially the lamb burgers. Explosion of flavors. Sweet, spicy, cool, savory. I'm inspired to make a copycat recipe.

Yelp
I was not expecting to find Indian food in downtown Asheville, which was our backup plan after we realized that another restaurant closed early for Easter. I am glad that we tried Botiwalla. I wouldn't call it authentic Indian food, but a reinterpretation of traditional recipes. The dosa filling was sandwiched between two toasted hamburger buns with a minty savory chutney. They went well together. The mango lassi was thick and creamy, but the cup was quite small. We ordered at the counter, but they brought food to the table when it was ready. We bussed our own trays afterward.

Yelp
This is yet another amazing place to eat in Asheville. Indian street food is the scene here, & a delicious way to enjoy food from the subcontinent. We started with an order of Yada Pav. These are basically sliders of chickpea & potato fritters bathed in tasty chutneys. The dish looks so simple, but the flavors were off the chart. Then it was on to a Paneer wrap. The Indian cheese was grilled on skewers & had a great charred flavor. The wrap was a 10 out of 10, filled with shredded veggies.

Yelp
The food was amazing. Recommend trying the puri and then ordering a roll. The chicken tikka and paneer tikka rolls were great!

Yelp
A great stop for a quick lunch! It's become my family's routine whenever we are in Asheville that a stop to Botiwalla on the way is mandatory. Always delicious, with friendly staff in a great location. This review was made in connection with a Toast promotion.
