Really disappointing service today. I went in looking to try on the Sardine bag, which I’ve been looking at for a while. Whilst I’ve looked at it online, I visited the store to get insight into the availability and functionality of the bag. A female client advisor at first seemed welcoming and willing to help me after I told her I’ve been looking for the bag but never seen it in person. They did not have the bag but she showed me an alternative which I appreciated. However she then became passive aggressive because I was unaware that the bag was not best suited to the everyday purpose I intended it for. She belittled me for not being a pre existing client, telling me that I needed to do “more research” about the bag, which is precisely what an in store visit was supposed to help me gain. She said I needed to see “who and what type of people wear it”, which felt condescending as it there some sort of class of people wearing it that’s supposed to indicate what it can and can’t be used for and she asked again if I’ve ever shopped with the brand before, as if shopping with the brand would somehow make me an expert in an item I don’t already own? Am I supposed to be an expert on an item I’ve told the client advisor I’ve never seen in person? Am I supposed to be aware of the ins and outs of an item I’m curious about when I’m not a trained member of staff and am simply a curious person thinking about buying a bag? Is there something I missed here? Or am I supposed to come in to shop for something only once I somehow know all there is to know despite never seeing or holding the bag in person. Maybe I’m supposed to visit every other boutique first, test the bag and then come to this location to buy it no questions asked. And for some reason she felt that reiterating her previous employment in Harrods and reminding me that the bag I was looking for was out of season, was helpful information. When I asked her if the bag came in other colours, she looked at me funny squinting, shaking her head and said “no…this bag only comes in one colour…are you sure this is the bag you’re looking for” despite the fact that it was already established that she’s showing me an alternative to the bag im originally looking for. I showed her a TikTok video of how someone else explained the functionality and she simply told me not to “believe everything I see on TikTok”. It’s a shame that I’ve been looking forward to buying into the brand for a long time. Now that desire is dead.
