The Ride-Along Report: First Takes From Last Night’s Dinner - London - The Infatuation

"What It Is: A wine bar in Spitalfields with food by pasta-specialists, the Sood Family. Perfect For: Lunch, Catching Up With Mates, Dining Solo, First/Early In The Game Dates, This wine bar at Old Spitalfields Market had been on our radar since we heard that pasta specialists, the Sood Family, were moving here from their former spot in the Spitalfields Kitchens. Our first visit was for a light lunch with a glass of wine, and we were not disappointed. With dozens of wine available by the glass, there’s plenty of drinking options. And the food is on point too. Particularly an excellent bowl of handmade spaghetti all’amatriciana with crispy guanciale. The Verdict: A really good new food and wine spot for Spitalfields. We’ll definitely be back." - sam collins, oliver feldman, heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, eileen twum

Bottles Review - Spitalfields - London - The Infatuation

"Most unions mean purchasing a new outfit and spending the weekend at some sad manor house in Sussex. Don’t worry though, no fascinators are needed at the marriage of Bottles and Sood Family. Bottles is a wine bar on the edge of Spitalfields Market, and Sood is a pop-up pasta specialist that used to occupy a spot in the Spitalfields Kitchens. At £12.50 for a plate of spaghetti all’amatriciana with crispy guanciale, the pasta is perhaps a little more expensive than some other specialists, but this a different beast. It’s a dark and woody affair, and with wines ranging from £5.50 to over £20 a glass, there are plenty of options for all budgets, and servers are more than capable of pointing you towards something that’ll nicely compliment the food. There’s also a terrace that you can settle in whilst watching Old Spitalfields Market go about its business." - Oliver Feldman

Went on a date with my girlfriend very great experience. Service was efficient and servers were very friendly. Had a great bottle recommendation that went perfectly with our food. Starters were delicious especially the cheese selection but the best part of the meal for me was the sausage orecchiette, very delicious! My girlfriend loved the tiramisu. Will definitely return.

We are not fussy about wine and one of the cheapest bottles of red was a whopping £40. We are fussy about food. My companion who was not very hungry ordered caponata with focaccia, followed by mushroom arancini. I ordered carpaccio followed by the vongole. Portions are small. The caponata which should be sweet and sour was excessively sweet and lacking in tang. Our server kindly removed it from the bill when we complained about the level of sweetness. Focaccia was mediocre but served with good olive oil for dipping. I prefer an airy focaccia with big bubbles. This one had small bubbles, and no topping (ie rosemary or olives), and no crusty sprinkle of coarse salt embedded on top. It was flavourful due to being well seasoned with salt incorporated in the dough. My carpaccio was tasty but the meat was not completely raw, as expected. It was more like a very rare roast beef or a beef tataki. But the arugala salad and generous shavings of parmesan were great. Our mains were much better. My companions arancino was excellent, with a crispy outer crust. My vongole was redolent with garlic and herb oil. The clams were perfectly cooked and still tender. Dinner for two with wine was £92.

Walked in here with high expectations but was kind of disappointed both with the food and service. Even though the restaurant was completely empty at 6:30, the waitress we had was quite pushy with the orders and then when we ordered, she bought everything out together including the main of curious wine the cold stuff. We had to request a different waitress to take it back in and keep it heated. Onto the food - we didn’t get the pastas as my friend couldn’t have pasta so we tried a few of the small plates and then the octopus for the main. The octopus unfortunately was quite rubbery and overcooked, the Vitello tonnato barely had any tuna cream on - the other dishes were decent but nothing to rave about.

We were not wine masters, but the staff there (probably owner / manager) were so nigh enough to give us recommendation and explanation based on our budget. And we got really good choice! It made us feel so comfortable and could enjoy wine and food much more than we expected. Also all the food we ordered was even better than the ones you can get at Italian restaurants in London. Thank you so much for the great time.

Hidden gem alert! Amazing fresh ingredients and very attentive staff. I’ve visited the restuarant/wine bar a past work Christmas Party and returning as a happy customer :) thank-you for the wine & service. We turned up at around 8pm on Friday evening and were well looked after. 100% recommend

Had a lovely dinner here with a friend after work. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the wine. We had a lovely bottle of Picpoul to share alongside some small plates. We weren’t rushed off our table and had a great time.

An amazing wine selection to choose from, with the option of taking a third off the price to takeaway. I was hovering around the £50 a bottle mark for an Italian red, so many to choose from so asked for a recommendation. Was utterly impressed with a recommendation for a £30 Hungarian red. Delicious and exceptional value. Met the brief for what I asked for. Food is delicious; albeit on the expensive side for small plates. On the site of what was Vagabonds, a fantastic, and I feel potentially better, replacement.

Yelp
Nice little wine bar in the Spitalfields market. If you are looking to break away from all the shopping and get a drink, this place is amazing. I'd imagine this getting super cozy when the weather gets cooler. I'd come back here!

Yelp
May be one of the best Italian restaurants I've ever eaten in anywhere. Started with homemade potato chip (crisps for you brits), moved on to oysters, shrimp, and hamachi on crisps, then a lamb ravioli, followed by amazing truffle tagliatelle, ribeye with some of the best french fries and tomatoes I ever had, finishing up with homemade tiramisu and pineapple ice cream. Michelin star worthy.
