The 13 Best Restaurants At San Francisco International Airport

"You visited the city for the first time and never got a bowl of the San Francisco treat (no, not the rice pilaf). A pre-flight chowder in a sourdough bread bowl is in order. The SFO outpost of the city’s famous, long-running bakery is serving up the New England-style soup in the international terminal, along with salads, sandwiches, and wraps. It’s counter-service (read: quick), and you can order online for pick-up if the countdown to departure is way too close." - julia chen 1, lani conway, ricky rodriguez

I tried their main branch near the fishermen wharf firstly in 2013 and lately in this visit, 2025. Considering the airport conditions facing massive flow of travelers, I believe the airport branch’s team is providing reasonably good service and good quality. As usual, I enjoyed their great tomatoes soup along with cranberries turkey sandwich. Can’t go-wrong with this combo, which could gets greater with a Margarita pizza, if you have company. Thanks!

Stopped by Boudin Bakery Café and tried the Margherita Pizza and the California Veggie Sandwich. Both were just okay—not bad, but nothing memorable either. The pizza had a decent crust but lacked the fresh basil and vibrant flavor I’d hoped for. The sandwich was fresh and packed with veggies, but didn’t really stand out in taste or texture. The ambiance was pleasant though, with the warm bakery vibes and casual seating. If you’re here more for the sourdough bread experience or a quick lunch, it does the job. But food-wise, there are definitely more exciting options around.

My kids got super excited to see this restaurant. Utterly disappointed. Cheese on the pizza not even melt. $7.50 side order of soup is pathetic. Stay Away

I was happy to find this Boudin right in the middle of the San Fran international airport. Expect the usual and they have a cute bread stand in the center with freshly baked products. It would be nice if they had more tables and regular table cleaning.

Google
DO NOT EAT HERE. Worst food experience I’ve ever had. Just shut it down. -They forgot to put Avocado on my sandwich and this is what they did. -What the hell did they put in my soup? I just opened it up and there’s pieces of turkey. The soup had an off taste and had zero salt(and I’m not even a salt person). If I get a reply on my review it’ll be a generic thank you for your feedback statement with no follow up. 22$ down the drain. I threw the whole thing away. Don’t pay the employees cause they’re obviously not doing their jobs.

For the other options available at this airport, this food is a steal at the price. I have never had pizza with this good of a crust. The food is served in a plate—but it’s an airport so oh well.

Google
I usually don't write reviews but this experience was horrible due to the rude service. I bought baguette snacks as gifts at the airport and shared them at a friend's house. One of the two had a very strong oily smell. I took it back to the store a week later for my return flight. This was only $6 and was a huge hassle since I bought it at the duty free store but they should have known. The store clerk said the oily smell was normal and told me to open all the other items. Is that what a clerk is supposed to say? I didn't want to argue anymore and got a refund. This wasn't a normal refund and they should have said sorry. I was very upset. Many people would have bought baguettes as gifts and the recipient would have cussed you out.

Google
Been seeing quite a few bad reviews and I'm guessing I visited on a good day because me personally, I had a great experience. I ordered their classic French dip and I gotta say, the sandwich and 'au jus' dipping sauce made for a crazy combo. The beef was tender & juicy (literally dripping) and the mayo was a nice added touch that didn't overpower the sandwich, but still contributed to the flavour. I did have to wait a while for my food but it wasn't an excessive drag, maybe a bit slower than your average fast food place. Their almond croissant was also pretty good, one of the rare times where the filling can be tasted along the length of the whole croissant. All in all, Boudin made for a good lunch spot.

Yelp
Craving some clam chowder for lunch since it was cold outside while flying out of SFO so we came in to get some. You can order at the counter or the kiosk. I found it easier at the kiosk so we did that. Then picked up the food. It was packed and busy, I guess everyone wanted lunch. The clam chowder was delicious. Creamy with large chunks of potatoes and clams. It comes with a bread bowl and it will fill you up. The sourdough bread bowl was delicious. I also got the turkey and avocado sandwich but did not get to eat because I was full from the clam chowder.

Yelp
Ambiance Very busy it is in Terminal A. Looks like u have to clean ur own table. Service N/A u order from kiosk and they call ur name when ready. Service Charge $1.83 what the hell. Sesame Ginger Salad This was an exceptional salad. Crisp lettuce and bell peppers. Chicken tasty. Loved the dressing just the right amount of sweetness. French Dip Deluxe It was just ok.

Yelp
"Did you want to just take a can and eat out of that?" Famous last words. Last Friday, me and my homie were still hungry after eating Gott's. I was on the phone with my Credit Union because it was declining my credit card from loading money onto my Suica account. If you are traveling to Japan, I highly recommend you don't wait to the last minute like I did. Get this squared away at least a day before you travel. Oh yea...you are here for food huh? I got you. Originally we went over to Boudin right after eating at Gott's. On the right hand side we saw a stack of cans which look like were on display to indicate you can probably buy a can to eat in the comfort of your home. That's why my friend originally made that joke in the beginning. The problem was mainly that the line was too long. We dipped. -Que Spongebob Narrator voice saying "One hour later..."- I'm on the phone with my credit union and my homie decides to make an executive decision and get a cup for us to snack on. I take one bite and it does not taste good at all. It literally tasted like they took the can, poured it in a bowl and microwaved it. Im over exaggerating but the flavor was very clammy. The Boudin that I know and love always had a creaminess to it, and this chowder did not have any creaminess whatsoever. Someone preparing it that day probably forgot to add the dairy. But sadly I couldn't finish it. After eating Gott's though, I wasn't too surprised. Airport food amirite?

Yelp
The food was warm and the food was great. A little bit pricy but it was worth it. The atmosphere was nice and the place was clean. Overall, if you are looking for fresh food for your flight stop by Boudin.
google avatar

Yelp
We were waiting in the airport for our flight. Looked around to see which restaurant we can eat at. My daughter wanted clam chowder in a bread bowl. She loved it. Location is in the airport and it's pretty busy. We sat next to a couple from France. It did seemed a little loud but it's expected when it's busy. It did seemed a little pricey but it was also in an airport so it was also expected!

Yelp
I've been to this Boudin a few times before departing for my flight. I would pick up canned chowder and sourdough crisps to bring back home. They serve Peet's Coffee and there's a good selection of pastries which are reasonable priced. They don't have a toaster though so you can't get any of the pastries warmed. The coffee and pastry line is different from the line with the soups and sandwiches. For the soups and sandwiches, you order from the self service kiosk. I recommend giving yourself an extra 15 - 20 minutes if you do plan on picking up breakfast here before your morning flight. They get really busy and the wait time to order and make your drink(s) can be long. If you're not in a rush to get to the gate, you can hang out in there to enjoy your food. They have lots of seating available.
google avatar

Rachel Macie H.

Yelp
What can I say I had a layover here and this was on my walk to my next flight and you so know I stopped in and bought a sourdough bread loaf to bring home as good sourdough is hard to find in some places across the country so that was a win win for me it was easy in easy out and that bread was super yummy from start to finish! Overall not much to it came grabbed a loaf and took off simple and as yummy as that!
google avatar

Yelp
Normally this would be a 1-star, but it's Airport food and it's edible, so maybe it's a 3-star for them. If you are really hungry and just want to fill yourself up with something under $13, I guess you can order this clam chowder bowl. Everything is bad, from chowder to the bread. The bread stinks badly.
google avatar

Hagar A.

Yelp
Quick service. Ordered the sesame chicken salad on the kiosk for $17. Bigger bowl than I thought airport food would be like and actually tasty too. The include a slice of bread with the salad. Lots of seating options too.
google avatar

Dallas T.

Yelp
Giving up on them, I used to always get a pizza here but they just never cook the cheese properly is way too much for the size so it never cooks! But their desserts in the coffee bar are so good! And I like to get clam chowder for friends when I travel
google avatar

Yelp
Not bad for an airport location. Stopped by for a bite before boarding my flight to Dubai yesterday, intending to order clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl. I had high hopes because I'd enjoyed a sublime bowl of the same a few days before at a strip mall location in Walnut Creek. Alas, this was not the same five star experience. Ordering took a while because the self-order kiosks were not being kind, but the food came out within two minutes of placing my order. They served the sourdough bread bowl separately from the clam chowder, so I needed to combine the two. Which was not a problem, it just took away from the experience. The chowder was piping hot but tasted mediocre. The bread had the classic sourdough taste, but was too chewy and served cold. Mixed together, the meal was tolerable. Likely will try other locations next time.

Yelp
Great service they were very helpful placing my somewhat complex order! I appreciate the customer service

Yelp
Your average Boudin There are 2 lines! One for for the cafe and one for the food. You order the food on the kiosks. You can also order coffee on the kiosk or at the cashier. Or! You can order on the sfo app and skip the lines altogether. Service was as fast as there are people. When it gets busy there's not much room to sit. So grab and go if you need to. The soup in a bowl comes with soup in a container and an actual empty bread bowl. So assembly is required. Thanks!
google avatar

Sandy L.

Yelp
Airport foods, airport price and airport service. What else can you expect. Lol!!!! I only recommend the French Dip. The bread is soft and fresh. It's not a lot of meat, but overall it was tasty. The Pulled Pork is small and dry. The Margherita pizza is not even baked through, it's has a thin crust, but not crunchy. I know it's fast food, but ...
google avatar

Yelp
Chaotic system, rude employees They have an automated ordering system. This did not inform me that the item I ordered was on display, and so I waited in line 10 minutes with no indication that I could've just picked up the item. Regret my substantial tip that I thought was going to the kitchen. The person in charge of the cafe/premade item area just grunted in the general direction of the item when I approached him, apparently incapable of speech or politesse. Followed by another wait for utensils. This was on 12/4/24. Never again!
google avatar

Yelp
Reasonably priced food for airport! Fresh and tasty...convenient and efficient Great place to grab breakfast for an early flight. Mi had a turkey avocado sandwich! Delicious and fresh. I highly recommend

JJ L.

Yelp
Disappointing. Had my heart set on a scrumptious almond croissant before boarding my flight. Hardly any almond paste. Why not delight your customers?
google avatar

Shannon M.

Yelp
Disappointing Caesar Salad with too much cheese and old chicken which I didn't touch. Presuming the non-salads are better based on what other people were eating. Customer service was above average as they didn't include napkins nor were they on the table. Background music was pleasant. MY GRADE: C minus.
google avatar

Mookie B.

Yelp
I ordered a margarita pizza for $20 and received it in about 10 minutes. The way to order it was through a screen and you didn't have to go to the counter. It was quite standard in taste for Margarita pizza so nothing too distinct and nothing too praiseworthy. The ambiance that being in an airport was normal as it busy and noisy. Although the interior of the place was old. Although it wasn't that dirty as you would expect but if you are concerned then you can use wipes.
google avatar

Stephanie S.

Yelp
Convenient airport spot with fresh baked bread options. I ordered the bread bowl chowder and it was decent. Think of it as a creamy veggie chowder, not a clam chowder though. The bread is definitely the star here.
google avatar

Dave S.

Yelp
Just grabbed a couple of IPA's and turkey cranberry sandwich before a red eye to Minnesota. Split the sandwich with my wife...good enough. The bread was deliciously soft. It was reasonably priced for airport food. Didn't eat inside. It was late and they had put all chairs and stools up on the tables for the night. Last words...didn't suck!
google avatar

Martin D.

Yelp
I was really surprised on how affordable everything was & the quality of food, for it being at an airport. For airport food, the price and taste was worth it. They even have an oven fire grill for the real woodfire pizza taste. Their California burger tasted just like one you would eat at a bbq, with the addition of the delicious pillowy boudin bun. Their menu is fairly large with most of the Boudin's staples like; bread bowls, pizza, burgers & their various sourdough breads.
google avatar

Alvin A.

Yelp
A few work colleagues told me to download Boudin's App that way I can start earning rewards, and pick up a free Sourdough bread each month. The App is easy to add onto your smartphone/PED. Also this is a really popular spot to grab food items before your flight like pastries, coffee, and what they are very known for their Clam Chowder Bread Bowl!! Conveniently located in SFO, as well as other parts of California, I find it easiest when flying in and out of San Fran right at the airport!
google avatar

Gil S.

Yelp
Shitty service No one has any customer service or gives a crap After paying for and overpriced drink, I asked for a cup of ice, and this is what I got. Lol
google avatar

Megan K.

Yelp
Food is kind of funky and expensive since it's airport food. It's edible and decent quality, me personally it's not the greatest though
google avatar

Juan V.

Yelp
Enjoy good sourdough in and away from San Francisco. The taste is consistent to other locations. I do enjoy some good San Francisco tradition a few miles away from San Francisco.
google avatar

Regis K.

Yelp
The most famous bistro for clam chowder in San Francisco. Whenever we come to SF, we have to come to Boudin to get our claim chowder caving fixed. They never disappoint as the clam chowders are always consistently delicious. They are very creamy and meaty. The flavors are mouth watering. Besides clam chowder, they are also known for their animal shape sourdough breads. They make sourdough breads into bear, panda, crocodile, and other animal shapes. They also have plain sourdough breads. We normally buy a few to bring home. You can also buy canned clam chowder to bring back home. Just need to heat it up and you will get the original taste of the famous Boudin clam chowder
google avatar

Lisa W.

Yelp
Sometimes you want to just have the tourist experience and this is the perfect place to have it. Take a stroll down fisherman's wharf, And pop into this huge landmark store with a variety of fresh sourdough meals. I like the classic clam chowder in a sourdough bowl. You can eat inside or outside but don't expect decent bathrooms. You will need to use the general population bathroom outside. Expect to wait in a line to purchase your food first, but it usually moves pretty quickly if you are ordering something simple like clam chowder, but it'll take longer for a custom sandwich. You can also take a tour in the building to see how the bread is made. Great for first dates but just try not to drink too much!

Yelp
5/20/23 There are other Boudins ("Boudin SF, SFO International" to be exact) in the airport, but apparently there was no listing for this specific one in the International Terminal, Boarding Area A, this one: https://boudinbakery.com/location/boudin-sf-sfo-international/ ... so here is the much anticipated review: It's pretty much what you'd expect from an airport-fast-food restaurant: they're slow, not particularly happy, and the food is a warm version of the frozen food isle. Got me: 1. French Dip Deluxe $15.99: Pretty much all bread. Guess you can dip your bread to have soggy bread. 2/10 2. Side of Tomato Soup $7.50: Has good sweet fresh tomato flavor. 7/10 3. Caesar Salad with Grilled Chicken $14.49: It's as you'd expect--dry chicken breast with standard greens. I did appreciate the shaved parmesan, but you know... it's $15, so I guess the cheese adds $10 to material cost??? 5/10 4. Margherita Pizza $12.79: Not bad actually! Nice crust. 6/10 5. Bottle of Kombucha $6.50 Overall... 2/5 #airportfood #sfo

Yelp
So sad. Don't stop here for your last Boudin boost. The service is terrible. Rather, the people cooking and sending out the orders are super rude. Extremely unprofessional behavior coming out of the workers who were on the grill and working the computer for outgoing orders.
google avatar

E L.

Yelp
rude servers- managers- i walked all the way from terminal B to here to buy the bread- and they told me in a rude tone to wait ten minutes - i was planning on leaving cash to them and they could have kept the change- because i saw that they were opening- People come from everywhere in the world to eat this breadth - boudine really should sell this bread in other parts of terminals so everyone can buy it instead of dealing with one area- im so annoyed
google avatar

Calamity L.

Yelp
The absolute worst service in the airport. It's self service, but they still want you to tip.
google avatar

Skyler B.

Yelp
The food itself is good! The portion size for the soup is smaller than I am used to but the sandwich is average size (no hot sandwiches only cold). The line was very confusing and the girl working behind the sandwich kitchen area was rude. You order the sandwiches in the coffee line who would have known?? I am giving this review 3 star because the cash register Carla was very rude. She knows she is rude which is why she has her name with badge facing inwards so you cannot see her name. I believe that the girl at the register is Carla since I read the name on my receipt. I felt rushed when ordering and the lady was rude when it took me a few seconds to decide on drink. The line was very long as well.
google avatar

Gail U.

Yelp
Great location as it is after checkpoint and before the Hawaiian Air gate. Lots of possible omiyage gifts to pick up last minute. The sour dough items are rather bulky unless you have room in a carry-on duffle or backpack. Usually I'd just pick up a water and sometimes a pastry. The various croissants were huge and tempting even the plain and almond ones were huge. I decided on two chocolate croissants, one in each separate bag. One if I get hungry enroute and one to take back for hubs along with the other couple items also bought at the airport- baseball style long sleeve SF shirt & assorted Sees box of candy. I sipped the sparking watermelon flavored water immediately. Ended up not eating my croissant til the following morning. I had put it in the fridge & heated it up in the microwave- big mistake cuz it was hard and dry. Pup enjoyed a few pieces of the inner bread which were also pretty dry, not pull apart soft and buttery.
google avatar

Yelp
I came to grab a quick bite with my son. We ordered a ham croissant and a chocolate croissant with a sparkling drink. I asked for two cups of ice. The bill Came out 20.43 which I thought was a lot! I looked at the receipt and noticed she charged me for A cup tea?!? I went to ask the lady about it at the register and she said ma'am you asked for two cups of ice..... I thought maybe she would notify me next time You charge me for an extra item. Definitely not professional and I'm very upset.

Guru R.

Yelp
Terrible pizza. Spent 25$ on a Margarita pizza with soup. No crushed red pepper, pizza was tasteless, cheese had barely melted. Service was barely adequate. Avoid and go to one of the other restaurants in the terminal.
google avatar

Tasha J.

Yelp
Wonderful lunch in SF today, the sourdough is where it's at! I had a half chicken salad sandwich and the clam chowder (no bread bowl). The chicken salad sandwich was really large for a 1/2 size. I wish the bread had been toasted but it was filling and refreshing. The clam chowder isn't on my top 10 list but it was good and even though I didn't order the bread bowl it came with a good sized piece. My friend did order the clam chowder in the bread bo and it was huge. She was really happy with it!
google avatar

Shaun T.

Yelp
This place is a must when going to the fisherman wharf. Clam chowder in a fresh sourdough bowl is the best. The bakery has some cool design breads that you can buy.
google avatar

Juan D.

Yelp
This feels more like an average deli. To some visiting, it could be a bit confusing. Don't get me wrong, on the floor it states to stand 6 feet apart, including circles to stand on. But, there is no signage telling you where the line begins or from where to order. I stood in front of the counter for about 2-3 minutes, till I looked at the lady at the register and she called me over. I went over and I asked her if I was supposed to order through her and she said yes. So I ordered the turkey and Havarti sandwich and a drink. My sandwich was made pretty fast and well constructed. Unfortunately, you don't get a happy/friendly vibe from the staff. I will be back though, the sandwich was good and the fast service didn't hurt.
google avatar

Carrie W.

Yelp
Yes people have been going here for years but it's not worth all the hype. Service was slow. Food was ok we ordered two clam chowder bread bowls and two chili bread bowls.
google avatar

Angelo R.

Yelp
I'm familiar with Boudin as I have been to the one at Fisherman's Wharf twice. I just didn't expect to find one in the airport terminal and wasn't sure if the quality will be the same. I've eaten at big-name chain restaurants inside airports and the quality wasn't as good as the original. This modest size Boudin Bakery changed my mind :) I ordered the Portobello Mushroom Sandwich and it was delicious. Made to order, prepped in front of me, fresh and hot. It was also a pretty big sandwich for $12. Maybe big enough to split. They also offer the famous clam chowder soup served inside their house-made sourdough bread bowl plus pizzas and salads. For coffee lovers, there's a Peet's Coffee in the middle of the store. Prices are the same as the one at the Wharf. It's always nice to find a decent place to grab food at the airport and this Boudin is definitely a good option.
google avatar

Benton T.

Yelp
Very expensive food even for an airport. Salad was wilted and brown and pizza was mid. Soup was the only redeeming thing about this restaurant.
google avatar

Jose R.

Yelp
I have hear good things about this place So i finally taste it at the SFO I order pullpork sand wich, was dissapoint it Bread was cold it will be better if they grill the bread but they dont we also order pizza the bread was very hard to eat
google avatar

Ashley A.

Yelp
Friendly staff and good spot to stop for soup! The clam chowder wasn't the best I've ever had, but the bread is incredible. The spinach and artichoke dip with crab is delicious!
google avatar

Shelbie P.

Yelp
Amazing clam chowder bread bowls! They are super filling and satisfying. I always come here to get this every time I visit San Francisco. Don't leave San Fran without enjoying one of these!
google avatar

Sue L.

Yelp
In its favour, it is opened early and the cappuccino is 30 cents cheaper than its competition down the hall. There is a pizza oven and plenty of bread in all shapes and forms eg teddy bear, turtle etc However, you cannot ask for a small 10oz or 12oz cappuccino; it is 16oz and mine was way too hot. It is more like slightly flavoured milk unless you add more shots. This is Peet's coffee. The muffin was OK. The croissants were a bit is a disappointment. They were reasonably fresh but not quite a croissant. The ham and cheese structure consisted of a sliver of cheese wrapped in ham and inserted. No heating so was more like a cold hot dog. The almond croissant was nearly crispy on the outside, soft and bready on the inside with almond paste. I prob wouldn't go back but there are plenty of people willing to queue
google avatar

Savi ..

Yelp
Beware! Unwrapped Utensils were being tossed on countertops and handed out to customers. There was 2 lines and only 1 line was acceptable (Workers scolded lady in front of line for waiting at cashier and starting a line). The cashier of the line that took orders had a nasty attitude when asking questions about the menu before ordering (Carla). She had her flipped her Badge around so people could not complain... unfortunately receipts tell all.

Yelp
This place sucks. Arrived from a flight and was told the place was closed. I still saw workers inside. According to their website and Google they are open till 11pm and it's only 9.57pm. I guess the workers decided when to open and close. Very convenient for them. Saw several others ask as well only to be turned away. Horrible customer service.
