Every Notable 24 Hour Restaurant in Montreal, Mapped - Eater Montreal

"Named after the founder’s hometown, Salerno is an authentic Italian bakery with a vast array of cakes, breads, pizzas, and grab-n-go bites. On the sweeter side of things, Salerno sells cannoli, tiramisu, and doughnuts; on the savoury side, it serves calzones, sandwiches, and deli meats." - Audrey Carleton

Salerno’s is a local authentic Italian Bakery shop & little corner store that operates with Cash Only! There is an ATM on site, but just bring a handful of dollar bills, and you'll be set to experience the wide variety of freshly baked goods they have to offer. This is also where we got the cake for our baby shower. It was very flavourful. Cheers to the Baker! Their pizza is huge & delicious (only half of it shown in the picture)

I keep on going and not buying. First because I did not know it was cash only, after because there is little choice in prepared meals and it does not look all that fresh. Plenty of frozen pasta and creamy pastries. Maybe those are good, if that is what you are looking for. They are open 24/7...

Do note that Salerno’s is Cash Only! They have an ATM on site that will charge you $1.50, or worse yet crash when you’re trying to use it, so better to come prepared with your own money. With that out of the way, Salerno’s is a cute Bakery/Pastry shop mixed with a little corner store. It states that it’s open 7 days a week, 24h a day, but I ended up going on a weekend around 3pm. I heard their donuts were good, so that’s what I wanted to try, but there were so many pastries and cakes on display that I was swayed into trying a few different things. The staff member that served me didn’t know the names of the mini pastries on display, but was able to help me in picking out what I wanted by looking around the counter and jostling the tray. I cannot recommend the mini pastries though, because most of them were stale or hard, and the majority of the ones I tried tasted the same. The worst of the bunch is the mini square with green, yellow, and pink cake. That was hard like a rock. I also tried two donuts they had on top, despite some fruit flies landing on a few and sampling the sweet themselves. The dough was very tender, but the dip on top of the donut tasted the same, whether it was the maple or the chocolate dip. However, it was a nice treat and not overly sweet. Altogether, my visit to Salerno’s only set me back $20, which is decent for everything I got! Despite a few things here and there, like stale pastries or flies around the food, I will definitely go back because they have so many options and are decently priced.

If you're craving authentic Italian food, this local Italian shop is a must-visit. From the moment you step inside, the aroma of freshly baked bread fills the air, and the sight of handmade pastas and desserts is irresistible. Their selection of breads is perfect. The pasta options are impressive too—perfect for a quick homemade dinner or to stock up for the week. The shop also offers a variety of food to go, from delicious lasagna to freshly made salads, making it an ideal stop if you're in need of a quick, satisfying meal. Don’t leave without grabbing one of their house-made desserts—everything from cannoli to tiramisu is on offer, and they’re all as delightful as you’d expect from a genuine Italian bakery. Parking is convenient, with a small lot right outside the store, so you won’t have to worry about finding a space. Just a heads-up—they only accept cash, but there's an ATM inside for your convenience if you forget. The cash-only policy might be a bit old-school, but it adds to the authentic, neighborhood feel of the place. Overall, it’s a hidden gem for lovers of Italian cuisine, offering a little bit of everything with quality that’s hard to match.

Anna is the sweetest person... she hires the best of the best. Always great service and the cakes ..OH MY GOSH.. I can't go anywhere else, because once you find that place that has it all... why go anywhere else I've had my wedding cake done, baby shower, our oldest 18yo bday and we'll have many more events to come.

Everyone who was working at this establishment on Easter Sunday needs a lesson in basic customer service. 1 - we ordered some desserts and were served by a women with an orange and brown silk hat who seemed like she hated her life and her job and did everything in her power to avoid speaking. There are zero labels so we asked for a chocolate hazelnut dessert which we described as a Ferrero dessert. There was literally a Ferrero rocher on top of the cake. To avoid disappointed she could have opened her mouth and told us that it was a cheesecake inside the outer layer. Everybody in my family hates cheesecake so it was a huge waste. 2 - I then asked another employee for help. She was a young Italian-looking woman who was mocking me because she couldn’t understand basic French, so I switched to English. I wanted a coffee but when I tasted the coffee that was almost empty and seemed to have been sitting there for hours, it was cold. I asked if I could get a hot coffee and she insisted that the coffee should already be hot. It took about 15 back and forth exchanges before she would believe me and offer to make hot coffee. 3 - I came to complain to the only staff member who seemed to have any emotional intelligence about the chocolate cake that was actually a cheesecake (which we learned after biting into it). She apologized for the mishap but wouldn’t offer a refund or even an exchange.

Inedible. I’m quite disappointed with the Caramel Mille feuilles cake. I purchased it thinking it would be a normal cake with some caramel but there was more caramel than cake, I’m talking about 1.5cm of caramel in between a thin layer of puff pastry (x3). Took one bite and couldn’t have more due to how extremely dense and sweet it was. No one at the birthday dinner had any. What a waste of money.. and caramel.

I don’t usually leave negative feedback, many times I do buy stuff here, 45 years and more. Happened in the past to buy cakes that were not fresh… for a while I stopped going, then tried again and sometimes were good, other times discrete. Today a cake cost me $30, was the worst cake I ate in my life. A strawberry shortcake. The sponge cake was dry, disgusting, the cream tasted horrible, made maybe of palm oil… never, never all of us taste something horrible like that. Also got upset stomach!

Yelp
You ever get a craving for pastries or cake but can't find any ? We'll what about a bakery open 24/7? That's what you get with Salerno. Does this place also happen to be in my neighborhood? Yes so you can say I've been here a lot! Everything here is amazing and there is something for everyone here. My favorite has got to be the pistachio croissants and the almond croissant. They are rich and so flavourful it's hard to eat just one. They have a ton of individual cakes like tiramisu, lemon meringue, opera and everything I between. If you looking for something less sweet the almond cookies are great. And when you want something savoury to go along with dessert you have a full deli counter and a variety of pizzas as well as a small grocery section. There's no better feeling then knowing somewheres open 24/7 and has option to take care of your sweet or savoury cravings

Yelp
Amazing lobster tail pastries, cannolis, and dinner panini rolls. They are open 24hrs and have quite a few parking spaces, and they are also located very close to bus stations. Heads up, they are a cash only bakery, there is an ATM machine in the store just in case.

Yelp
Great variety of pastries, prepared meals, pizzas, sandwiches and cold cuts. Be careful it's cash only.

Yelp
They have some great italian subs. A sandwich costs about 6$ and comes with a generous portion of cold cuts, cheeses, and pickled stuff. Since I'm not a connoisseur in italian subs, I asked the lady to prepare two sandwiches as SHE LIKES them, so to this day I have no idea what I ordered exactly, but they were both 5/5 good. I also tried a cannoli. It was great. It has a good contrast in texture: crispy dough and creamy filling. It was also not overwhelmingly sweet. They are a bakery, so they sell many other pastries and cakes that all look delicious. While in their store, I also saw fridges filled with homemade batches of tomato sauces, pizza sauce, and different pasta sauces. They seemed like I'd finally be able to cook a good pasta dish. One important thing to mention is that they're open 24/7, which means you can walk in at any time for a delicious sub for 6$. There's also pretty big dining room next to the shop so you can eat on the spot and go for round 2 ;)

Yelp
Salerno is my favourite spot in Montreal to get a panini. The best part? They're open 24/7! Therefore, if you want a panini or are craving a late night sweet treat Salerno's is the place to go. If you're there during the day, ask for Nancy. She makes THE BEST sandwiches ever. She really packs on the meat and cheese! The paninis are only $5.00. You get to choose your cold cuts (salami, mortadella, capicollo, prosciutto) cheese (provolone, bocconcini), bread and toppings. Toppings are usually pickled veggies such as eggplant. You could add mustard and/or mayo. If you're not in the mood for a panini they have a wide variety of cold salads and pizzas that could be warmed up upon request. They also have a big variety of traditional Italian cookies, pastries, donuts and cakes. Definitely a spot to check out if you're in the St. Michel area and if you want a taste of Italian culture at a low price.

Yelp
Came here to pick up a large order of panini and cold cut cuts for a family get together. Was served by 2 terrific staff members who had everything prepared and wrapped perfectly. It all tasted very good and will be back to test out their pastries. NB it's a cash only place and unfortunately the Sunday I was there their ATM was on the fritz. Parking is a little tricky!
