I’m torn — 3, or 4 stars here? I love the funky layout and yet sometimes it turns me off too. Whatever, that’s on me. Good, solid tap selection, a couple of wines and even some hard liquor if you’re jonesing for a cocktail. Menu is the usual pub fare but with some surprising additions; Fish n Chips are supposed to be the hot ticket. Bonus: there’s an upstairs area, great for watching sports with your buds or doing game night. Also, lots of windows. Just a comfy, super-casual neighborhood spot.

Google
Some of the best fish and chips I've had in Portland! Friendly service and laid back atmosphere.

Julie Seminara

Google
Service was so attentive to my food allergy. Very kind. Had the fish and chips as well as willipa oysters. Fish and oysters awesome. Fries were a bit lacking. Atmosphere was cute. Limited seating but the upstairs is even better

Google
I am down in this area every week, stopped in for a beer and some dinner. Warm and welcoming service, fried oysters were fresh and perfectly cooked, battered and fried mushrooms like a tempura but better with more body, and fresh big mushrooms. Side Caesar with a cheeseburger, couldn't finish it all! 100% recommend this as a cozy spot for great atmosphere and comfort food! The owner also mentioned they have a great keyboard player in - check it out!

Google
This place is a hidden jem. The food is comfort, the beer on tap is awesome, and it even has a Red Ale! The kids' playroom upstairs and the quiet seating means kids are distracted as at least one parent enjoys the beer on tap. Just had the best chili dog, The William, yum. I enjoyed it thoroughly. The service is sweet and friendly. Loved it.

Google
Wanted some fish 🐟 and chips. Very unique old school Portland it's a must see. Very friendly staff . Ryan our server was amazing 👏 super friendly and excellent service. Highly recommended it , also kid friendly Very nice play room for the little ones.

Google
Best fish n’ chips in PDX and it’s not even close. Fresh oysters as a starter and a great, revolving tap list that I always discover a new outstanding pint. Prices and service A+ Great every time!

Google
This place has an enormous fish and chips sign outside and I’ve seen it many times before. I was craving fish and chips so I decided to check it out. I’m really glad I tried it! The fish was as good as I think fish and chips can get. The batter coating was crispy and the cod fish wasn’t soggy. The fish alone gets five stars from me. Also got fried jalapeños. They were delicious and very large. I got fries and my friend got tots. These were tasty, but not my favorite part of the meal. The Cole slaw was incredible also. The restaurant/taphouse has a good number of beer taps and a screen that cycles through the various beers on tap. The lighting outside could be improved. It seems there are many places to get tripped up as you are entering and exiting the building. I will be back!

Yelp
Solid pub food! Very high quality food, well prepared, a good amount of food, and very reasonably priced. Really loved the pan fried oysters and dry rubbed wings. The place itself is very cozy. Two stories with a patio and parking front and back. Friendly service too!

Yelp
Can I leave 3.75 stars? I love the super-cazh, ultra-homey vibe at the Taphouse --- basically this is like somebody's two-story house tweaked to serve beer and food to more folks than just the tenants. So, think small wooden kitchen tables scattered around, comfy chairs, a fireplace, and a separate upstairs area with a true bar to hang out with your buds. Nice big TV screens both upstairs and downstairs and there's even a small patio/deck up there with great views of Barbur Blvd... Service is great, super accommodating and the grub is basically pub fare, but with some nice additions; hello oyster shooters! Pizzas are solid and cheezy but everyone I've spoken to swears by the fish n chips. Guess I'll have to order those. It's neighborhood-y, it's comfy, it's a bit dowdy, and maybe a little square but it's friendly and welcoming. Just be warned - the parking situation is atrocious.

Yelp
We came partly because of their kid's room and partly because of their fish & chips! We visited in a Saturday around 5:30 and had the upstairs to ourselves for most of the time. The playroom is great with a lot to keep my 2-year old happy. We ordered the kids fish and chips, the oyster po boy, and the fried chicken sandwich. The fish was tasty, with a light crispy batter. The fries also had the perfect level of crisp! The po boy was good, but not something I'd likely order again. The fried chicken was also good, but we've had better and my husband commented that it was a little dry. Service was friendly. The man working told us about the long history of the restaurant and showed us some pictures! It was easy to order and our food was brought out timely and hot. My husband enjoyed the beer selection, and pints of the IPA's he ordered were a solid $6. Overall, would suggest this place as a meet up with family and friends with kids!

Yelp
The owners bartender called in tonight so he was working himself (David). The food was fantastic (I watched the cook work, he was quick and efficient). The service was fantastic and even though the restaurant is a little cramped, they use what they have to the best advantage. We came in just before 5:00 p.m. on a Friday night and by the time we were done with dinner the place was packed. They have a good beer/cider selection, a bar plus a decent menu. Everything we saw being served looked great. My Boulevard Surpreme Burger was very goid and wife loved her fish sandwich. Definitely worth the try! We'll be back.

Yelp
Food was great. Super solid, with a menu that can accommodate anyone. The service was awesome, and the interior was cozy and perfect. I hope to come back here as often as my pocketbook will let me!!

Yelp
This place is a good local place. I was staying down the street. I ordered the fish and chips. They were good, light and fluffy. The coleslaw was tasty too! The vibe is a cross of a pub and your living room. Cute and cizy. Friendly staff too!

Yelp
We tried their cod fish and chips last night for dinner with the lavender kombucha. There was live jazz and the family-owned element of the place definitely made it special. It's one of those places where you feel like a regular on your first visit. Low-key and cool.
google avatar

Yelp
Interesting restaurant that feels like it's in someone's house. Downstairs someone was playing the piano; not sure if they were a customer or not. There's a kid's playroom upstairs along with more dining tables. The food took a while to arrive, but it was soooo good. We got the pan fried oysters and 4 piece cod fish and chips. Both the oysters and cod were so soft, tender, and juicy! Their menu also offers burgers, sandwiches, pizza, salad, steak, and hot dogs.
google avatar

Yelp
I've driven passed here for years and always wanted to stop because of the giant "fish and chips" sign, and I am soooooo glad I finally did! A fireplace roars with jazz downstairs while upstairs hosts a cozy family space with tvs and a child's playroom. The food was amazing and the service was attentive. I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Best customer service. Cool ambiance in this small, but awesome, restaurant. The food was delicious; good portions and great flavors. Loved the oysters on the half shell as well as the fish and chips. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

Yelp
Wow! What a find. Don't ever judge a book by its cover. From Barbur Blvd the place looks relatively nondescript, but man inside it's a gem. And the food... Oh Boy Probably the best fish and chips I've ever eaten at a very affordable price. Michael, our server and manager was THE BEST! FRIENDLY and very FUN establishment very highly recommend

Yelp
FANTASTIC Fish n Chips for only $16. !! Honestly, you won't find better in Pdx. This place looks like a dive when you walk in, but upstairs, there is lots of light from big windows and a great, small outdoor deck with trees and interesting views. I got the 4 piece Fish n Chips. They were large pieces of cod, cooked to perfection in a light beer batter, crispy, and best of all, NOT GREASY. The tartar sauce and coleslaw are homemade and delicious. They even have "Portland Ketchup" for the fries, made with a little sugar, not high fructose corn syrup. I've been looking for an excellent F n C place for decades. Finally found this gem... you won't be disappointed. Good service too.

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Fish sandwich was amazing! The owner history is place, using to Crab Bowl. What owner delight, and cheerful service. Old very building a 70 ish, upstairs bathrooms a cold. We was a Winter time. Downstairs in a meal and my husband beer and I have clam chowder and Fish Sandwich!! Delicious!!
google avatar

Paul H.

Yelp
Great fish &chips. Hot, crispy, moist inside. Decent cole slaw, too. They were out of the first 3 beers I picked but the 4th one was really good, so that worked out fine.

Yelp
Love this spot, I wish it was in SE Portland, but it is still close. What a deal on raw Wallapa Bay oyster shooters!! My fav is the Oyster Po' Boy & their taplist never disappoints as well, always interesting. Funky cool old house, I believe, always great service. Family owned, so support local!!
google avatar

Yelp
We had the fish and chips and they were very good. The young lady working was very nice. However, clean the condiment jars, they were sticky and not clean, pretty gross. Very limited bar, some liquor options were empty. My guess is that beer is more their thing. I would eat there again because of the food and service.
google avatar

Yelp
Fish n Chips is my all time favorite. The best I had was in Cornwall, UK. This place is really the best Fish n Chips I have had in the U.S. I moved to Oregon from Los Angeles 2 yrs ago and there's a lot of variety and ways of cooking Fish n Chips there but, does not hit that specific crisp and batter taste. This place hits all the markers if you're a Fish n Chips lover, combined with their Cole Slaw and sauce...Uuuuwwee!!! Service was excellent. THANK YOU!!

Yelp
A great neighborhood pub that seems to fly under the radar. That's what I think best defines Boulevard Taphouse. Honestly, I'm certain I've driven past the Boulevard Taphouse too many times to count. On the recommendation of a mate, however, I placed an order. Oh my goodness - I'm not driving past any longer. I'll definitely be stopping more often. Really good fish and chips - and clam chowder to make anyone on the Oregon coast jealous. The Boulevard Taphouse is a quintessential neighborhood pub - loads of beer on tap and a fun assortment of comfort food. Made even more delightful by a super pleasant and convivial bar server/owner.

Yelp
good stuff. they gave me a free lollipop and the burgers are fire. I like how they always play basketball or football

Jason K.

Yelp
This place is a miracle. Delicious fish sandwich, perfect fries. Great bar scene. Upstairs has a tiny porch, TVs and a room just for kids to hang out and play with toys. Everyone is crazy friendly, and the owner was so amazing to our family. Can't wait to come back.

Carrie L.

Yelp
Fish and chips were good and service was friendly and efficient despite only having one server for the restaurant The facility is old and small but comfortable. There apparently is an upstairs area but we sat downstairs and did not view that space.
google avatar

Nicholas S.

Yelp
Just about anything here doesn't matter when you consider how lively the people are. Great for kids and families alike. Lots of space.

Yelp
A tiny little place on Barbur Blvd- 14 rotating taps and a brief but heavy hitting menu. I enjoyed the oyster po'boy and my husband had the fish and chips. I loved mine, he was so-so on his meal but expectations were very high given the reviews! This place is cozy, welcoming and warm with a fireplace blazing, very clean and inviting. I had a Pilsner, it was a little flat but otherwise good. Service was friendly, welcoming and prompt!
google avatar

Victoria M.

Yelp
Yummy, fresh and very reasonable prices. We had the fish and chips. You would never notice this place because it's easy to drive by on Barbur. It is definitely worth the stop if your in this area,

Yelp
I don't know why I have not written a review of this wonderful taphouse. This place is pretty close to our house on Barbur by the Freddies. We first came here about a year ago and got togo food and have been coming back for beers and growler fills. The other night we were gonna go to McMenamins and after terrible service we headed over to the taphouse to a friendly face at the counter. We ordered a four piece fish and chips, side caesar, and a bowl of chowder. We each got a beer of their taplist and headed up stairs to their awesome patio. It is small but cute, has an alexa for music and looks out onto Barbur. It was night so there was some nice lights out there as well. Let us get to the food! Holy smokes it was so tasty and affordable. We literally licked the bowl on just about everything we got. The chowder was the best chowder I have ever had in my entire life. The beers were tasty and affordable as well. I will definitely be back to enjoy more food and drinks!

Yelp
I ate here once before 15 months ago. It was a late night order, and despite that, I found the quality and portion size top rate. Recently, they have been new signs outside, and I had imagined there might be new owners. But when I entered, I discovered it was the same folks. And you know what? The food was every bit as good. They take a lot of pride in what they do, and the employee who spoke to me last time told me all about it. Well he was long gone, but I heard the same story this time, and could really taste it. Many places skimp on the fryer oil, keeping it too long. You can really taste what places do that. Those never get my repeat business. Not here. Everything is clean and crisp. In fact, when I put my order in on the phone, they told me when to come by because they wanted to make sure the fish was just coming out of the fryer when I picked it up. So I went and did an errand, came back, and arrived three minutes before we had talked about. The gentleman at the counter apologized, and said the fish was just finishing being fried. Exactly 3 minutes later, and on time, My order was done. In fact, it was three orders of Fish and chips. I had asked for the three-piece portion size, and they put out four, and explained the pieces were a little bit smaller than normal, so they added an extra piece to make sure that they were being fair to me. I love that sort of communication, because it explains why there were four pieces so that I won't have strange expectations the next time I go. They also talked about how they really want to listen to their customers and provide what people want, and that they need to make it on one customer at a time. I should add that this business had been david's father. He and his brother took it over and redecorated the place. They also have a lot of beers on tap and a full menu. I am adding the current one because other reviews still show the old one. OK let's get to the fish and chips. They use fresh cod. The fish was crispy, the fries were crispy, both without being overladen with grease. Not easy to do. They provided, in the to go containers, malt vinegar, and a very fresh tasting tartar sauce. It was clearly homemade, with a lot of dill, and what tasted like tarragon in the background. I couldn't see any fresh tarragon, so I'm guessing they may have use some tarragon vinegar in it. With all that going right for it, why only four stars? We all thought the coleslaw had too much mayonnaise in it. That may just be our taste, and maybe most of their customers like a very mayonnaisy slaw. Just be aware. Simultaneously, the coleslaw was in a different container -along with a lemon wedge--so that it wouldn't make anything soggy. These folks really want to ensure that when you get the fish and chips home, it's as close to being fresh as possible. Nice craftsmanship!

Carol C.

Yelp
Food is very good as is the service. Comes under the heading "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" as far as the ambience. The price is also very affordable for Happy Hour.
google avatar

Mark N.

Yelp
This is a great find! Obviously it's been there for a long time... At first, it seems pretty small, but it extends upstairs. There is a nice hearth in the room which would be great in the winter. Tables are spaced well, simple. A bit of rustic vibe. 10 taps with a solid beer selection along with plenty of bottled options. The staff was very friendly, warm and very low stress. Tried the burger and a buffalo chicken sandwich - both were excellent. Really good flavours yet still very classic. The crunch on the chicken was perfect. The desserts are hand made - the blueberry cobbler was delicious - like it was made by my grandma.

David S.

Yelp
David, the owner, was personable and friendly. We had the oyster shooters and fish and chips. Great food too!!

Miranda N.

Yelp
Amazing fish and chips! Really friendly service, too. This place is a hidden neighborhood gem.

Yelp
Wow! How was some of the best food in Portland right under my nose?! We ordered burgers and fries-- both cooked to perfection and full of flavor. They have many drinks (both alcohol and non alcoholic) ready to go. We sat on the patio and enjoyed a warm, fall evening. Yet, they also have plenty of room upstairs and downstairs. Perfect place to watch football games! And most importantly-- we were greeted kindly and attended to. Perfectly place to visit regularly!

Yelp
We've driven by for years, but finally stopped in. It looks divey and it is. It doesn't look like a family friendly place, but they allow kids and were so nice to my kids. The cook even gave my daughter a cupcake on the way out, which means it's her new favorite restaurant. The fish and chips, what they are apparently known for are good. The batter on the fish was crisp and flavorful and the crinkle cut fries were a fun throwback, though I prefer fresh cut. The fish they use is cod and while I really love halibut usually, I thought the cod was great and the price was unbeatable. We also had a pizza. Honestly, it was just okay. I probably wouldn't order it again. My family sat on the small patio, which has two tables. It was not totally shaded, but it was enough shade that we were comfortable on a very hot day.
google avatar

Dustin B.

Yelp
Come see Michael at the Boulevard! His service went far beyond expectation. Not to mention the best fish and chips I have ever had they have in-house batter. This place is a must. Don't forget they close at 8 PM. Thank you.
google avatar

Nesha M.

Yelp
First time at this establishment and the service was not only personable but also inviting. The structure has a cozy but authentic feel both up and downstairs. The upstairs patio was quaint and perfect for a evening drink while the PNW sun cools down around us. Would recommend, great vibes. Heard the food was great, must try next time. Bathrooms were also up to par. Edit: wings were great and had a house dry rub but were breaded, steak bites were also pretty good!

Ignacio G.

Yelp
No offense, I don't know if we caught them at a bad time... but the burgers are not seasoned. I think it was frozen patties as well. It's just extremely bland for a younger persons taste buds in guessing. I don't think the burger has any salt either pretty cool place if it's your style though. Small and invite only type of setting
google avatar

Acacia H.

Yelp
Fish & chips! Pleasant staff.. always a joy. Fish has been perfectly prepared every time. On time (we pick up) and hot
google avatar

Libby M.

Yelp
My husband and I had a craving for fish and chips and noticed this restaurant was on our way home to Newberg. Michael, our server, was awesome. We had the fish and chips and coleslaw and the pan fried oysters. The beer tap options were great and I'm not even a big beer drinker. We will definitely go back again. And yelp reviews are correct... The coleslaw is the best I've ever had.
google avatar

Megan M.

Yelp
Good place to eat, drink and let toddler play! I love their clam chowder ( lots of big beacon bites) and fried chicken wings /cod! Our 3yo loves their play room too! We can enjoy our meals while kid is playing toys:)

Nick G.

Yelp
Great little place for a quick bite and beer! I had the two piece fish and chips and it exceeded expectation. It came with some coleslaw and crispy fries. I've driven by this place a million times and finally stopped in. On Mondays they do a market with fun hippie stuff for sale. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. Will return for those fish and chips.
google avatar

Franklin H.

Yelp
These guys have some of the better burgers in the Portland area. I can say with confidence that they are better than a number of the breweries or chains in the area that over complicate a simple burger by putting too much on it. I recommend the Supreme burger with tots on the side.
google avatar

GT C.

Yelp
Excellent fried oysters, fish and chips and service. Loved the music and ambiance. Thank you!
google avatar

Desi S.

Yelp
I totally want to give this new place a 5 but they have a few kinks to work out. The owner was amazing and so nice. Pluses are: decent beer and cider selection, great service, fills a need in the neighborhood and very reasonably priced. Areas to improve: parking is almost nonexistent the menu a bit limited, chowder is thin. When word gets out it's going to be a hard place to get parking for. Kids are welcome! I'm excited to see him grow and thrive. We will be back to try the fish and chips.
google avatar

Brian S.

Yelp
Seems like a decent place, and once they're done it may be even better. The food was pretty decent for bar food. Didn't try a beer this time but it looks like a fairly extensive tap list. (If IPAs are your jam, this is a good place for you. They had a LOT.) I had a few questions (couldn't make out if any of the beers were dark beers, for instance) but the server was brand new (like it was her first day- and she did a great job, considering) and she didn't know the answers. Everybody else seemed friendly but also busy, so never had a chance to find out. I hope they have stouts and porters, though, because they are definitely the closest beer source to my house. My biggest concern, though, is accessibility. I have several friends who are otherly-mobile, and it doesn't look like wheelchairs would be able to get into the place. Plus, the only bathrooms are on the second floor... I hope they have plans to address this! :) 'Twas a good visit for a place that isn't quite finished yet, and I plan to be back for sure.

Raymond R.

Yelp
Excellent food, great service, I have had several items on the menu and they are all very good.
google avatar

D G.

Yelp
Came looking for wings when another place messed up my order. The dry rub wings looked intriguing. The owner seemed like a good dude. Went out of his way (which he didn't have to do) to give me a decent price when I was ordering up an amount of wings that wasn't specific to the menu offerings. Solid eats.

Adam P.

Yelp
The first thing I had was a beer. Then fish and chips, and the fish was crispy and moist at the same time, and the fries were hot. The owner sat next to me and said he was happy to have me over. I felt the same.
google avatar

Erin N.

Yelp
Excellent food... the fish & chips was soooo good! Even better customer service!!! I will definitely be back!!!
google avatar

Diane B.

Yelp
Great fish and chips !! Look forward to trying other items on the menu . Very friendly

B P.

Yelp
Looking for fish and chips, reviews were good. We were not disappointed. I had Oysters, my wife fish and chips, everything was great. Dave, the owner, was working by himself and still pulled it off. We will be back.
