"Boulton & Watt is a solid neighborhood hang. It’s more of a bar with food than it is a restaurant, but the expansive menu, including weekend brunch, makes it worthy of a full review. This place is tailor made for the mid-20′s crowd that now lives on the LES and populates B&W on the regular. You know, the ones that move down here once they’ve realized they’re still single and too old for Murray Hill. It’s a useful spot to hang with friends, get drunk and eat some above average bar food. The menu has some surprises, and isn’t too typical. It’s all a little pricy for what it is, which certainly affects the rating here. None of the plates are exactly photo worthy, but much of the food tastes a lot better than it looks. As we are all aware, there are not a lot of great places to eat AND watch a game. What’s most impressive about Boulton & Watt and what makes it super useful is its ability to be a sports bar when it wants to be. They camouflage a bunch of flat screens all around the room, which are usually off and not an eyesore. Tasteful TV placement is a tough line to toe, yet they do it well here. Our first time through, we were pissed because we were under the impression there were no TV’s, and thinking this would be the perfect local spot to watch games. Our bad. If you’re just looking for a place with Sports On TV, raise this rating 1.5 points please. See you Sunday. Food Rundown Homemade Pickles You know the artisan ways of pickling have reached the over-saturation point when the local gastropub with sleeper flat screens has an entire menu section dedicated to it. You can choose from Pineapple with Habanero to Watermelon with Rosemary and Ginger to Cherry Peppers to more traditional Cucumbers or Zucchini. The serving size, for $5 a pop, is a little small, and while we liked most of the ones we tried, we wouldn’t get overly excited about the pickle prospects here. Short Rib & Bone Marrow Toast Thick, buttery toast topped with layers of short rib and bone marrow? What’s not to love. This is a good app to share, as it’s super rich and you really only need a taste. Asparagus And Egg Being healthy isn’t something they’re fond of here at B&W. They drench their green vegetable in egg, Parmesan cheese, bacon and caramelized onions. I guess you could get a salad if you wanted instead, but what’s the point of that? Mac & Cheese A nicely sized serving of Mac and Cheese with white cheddar and bread crumbs that isn’t overly memorable, but will get the job done. Brats In A Blanket Definitely our favorite of everything we tried, these are a must order. Mini house made sausages in blankets served with a hot spicy mustard and curried ketchup. We housed these in five seconds. Burger A solid burger on a toasty brioche bun with excellent fries, but an expensive burger as well. Once you get bacon, cheese and a fried egg on top, you’re looking at $19.50, which, come on, is a little pricy. Then again, this place on a whole is a couple dollars too expensive for what it is, but we’ll let it fly because the food is good and they’re paying cable bills. Mahi Mahi Fish Tacos These were plugged hard by our server, and turned out just OK. $5 a taco too, so we’re tough to please when we get pricy. While we love a chipotle aioli, this taco was just completely drenched in sauce to the point where that’s all you could taste. Sorry tempura mahi mahi, you play second fiddle to mad sauce, pickled onions and other typical taco fills. We’d skip these next time. Blackened Brick Amish Free Range Chicken Our server led us in this direction, and it was a mistake on our part to listen. Why would we order the chicken at a gastropub that doesn’t necessarily have amazing chicken? Because it had bacon and roasted chicken jus. Our fault. We should have known better. This was fine, the chicken was nice and moist, but the plate looked like sht and it just wasn’t necessarily something we ever need to eat again. We had a couple bits and pushed it off to the side. Skip." - Andrew Steinthal

"Summer is the time of year when Thursday becomes the official first night of the weekend. That makes Friday morning less pleasant, but at least you can head out after four hours staring blankly at your monitor. When you do, find some relief in the form of picklebacks and a BEC called “The Hangover” at Boulton & Watt. They open up all the windows when it’s nice out, so the big picnic tables inside and outside are both good options for breathing in that fresh LES air." - matt tervooren

"You could throw an egg from the entrance of Supper and it would probably land pretty close to Boulton and Watt. But don’t say that to your friends once you’ve already started drinking. because someone might get hurt or yolky. There are a bunch of bars in this part of the East Village, but this one is sure to have lots of people in it doing something similar to your group. They also have $6 sangria, bloody marys, and mimosas until 4pm, plus TVs that they hide when there aren’t big games on. So use that information to either avoid or flock to this place." - hannah albertine

"You could definitely trick someone into thinking Boulton & Watt is a restaurant. Whether or not that’s ethical is debatable, but everyone should be more or less happy. This place is actually a gastropub, but it has big windows, exposed brick, and enough TVs that you won’t miss any plays. So the next time a non-sports fan wants to go eat during a game, steer them here. Not everything on the menu is a winner, but if you stick to the stuff that sounds the least healthy, you’ll be alright. Although, truth be told, the crispy quinoa salad isn’t bad. We’re sorry for saying that." - bryan kim

"The East Village and LES have about as many places to drink during the day as frat row at Arizona State, but most of them are dark bars that are either too empty or too packed. That’s why you should know about Boulton & Watt, a bar just off Houston that’s always busy, but never slammed - thanks to a big space with tons of seating. There are some picnic tables outside, but we actually like the indoor ones more, because the industrial windows keep it airy, and there are always people standing around interested in joining your game of Thumper." - Bryan Kim, Matt Tervooren

Came here on a Sunday early afternoon after searching for a place to have a quick brunch without the hassle of driving in circles looking for a parking. I entered and was immediately greeted by the hostess and decided to sir at the bar. There was a decent amount of people there but it was not crowded. Once seated, I was provided water, menu and utensils. I ordered the hangover sandwich with was a BLT woth.sunny side eggs and avocado. It was yummy and very filling. It cane it fries but the fries were a rad bit overcooked and some were burnt. I also had a Pina mule and ur was really good. Overall a good spot for a quick brunch.

Fun brunch spot to get food and drinks at. Well priced, and dishes were quite large portioned. I liked the crispy eggplant parm better than the grits (too cheesy). Table next to us got Mac n cheese which looked really good. The energy of the restaurant is on the high side with loud music playing.

Great food and a great location. The staff are nice and the venue has a rustic vibe. The environment has low lighting and loud music. They have outdoor seating and downstairs seating too The portions are decent in size with an average entree costing $15. Eat those chips and guacamole with a smile on your face, because you know you’re in for a good time. Hope this helps!

We tripped upon this place and were drawn in by the cool exterior design which could be described as Industrial Comfort. There was so much to look at with and the food was incredible. It was one of those places you could stop in for a quick bite and then easily stay all day because it offers such a friendly and laid back atmosphere. They offer a variety of unusual twists on eggs Benedict for brunch and it was incredible. Also burgers and other delicious salads and some good comfort food options.

Service is solid, ambiance is great. Nachos were... Conflicting? They use melted cheese instead of the 'nacho sauce' stuff, which is excellent. The ones that were crispy tasted great, love the recipe, but half of them were soggy and they were lukewarm / some even cool. Suspect they either reheated an old nachos order that didn't go out and served it, or the service to bring them to table after they were ready took an extra long time somehow.

Visited Boulton & Watt during covid. Excellent outdoor dining separated by shrubs. The chips and guac were amazing. Especially because there were more chips than dip which is always appreciated! Service was a little slow but it’s the trade off of being separated from the other tables. I’ll take that any day! great vibe

Awesome brunch, tons of options! Really delicious food, great service. Likely one of the best brunches I have had in a while. Very vegetarian friendly, open, clean bathrooms! Their pancakes were yum, though I am not a pancake person usually. I would absolutely be back!

This Bar/Restaurant had one of the best brunches I've ever had. Good drinks(check), Great food (check), Nice laid back atmosphere (check). For the drink I got Skyfall (strong enough with lots of flavor). Oatmeal pancake with raspberries were amazing with maple syrup & lemon zest butter. Next up avocado toast with scrambled eggs. Basic yet very flavorful. The final dish was the mac & cheese. Flavor here was on point but I would recommend different pasta shape (shells). Service was also excellent. 👍 I would definitely recommend this place & will definitely return. Even my son (picky lil dude) said best brunch ever!! I mean if you can't trust a 6 year old's comment on food, can you trust anyone?
