Incredible atmosphere, Attentive authentically dressed staff. This place will transform you into prohibition era gangster. An eclectic selection of food options that taste as good as they look will help you absorb the incredible liquor selection. The prices are reasonable for the atmosphere and quality of food.

Service, cuisine, people, space, spot on. Felt like I jumped 100 years back in time, like it was illegal to be there. Basement, hallways, dim lit areas. The food was fantastic and arrived on time. The drinks were engineered to perfection. A little tricky to find, but once you do you don't want to leave.

Google
Bourbon house is a gem in a growing city of mediocrity. Offering for a lack of a better term a extremely unique speak easy type experience. You start at the corner of 200 and state and descend into this basement through a dark narrow stare case that opens up to a magical jazzy world only rivaled by J.K. Rowlings Harry Potter epic. Oh and the food...... the food..... foods great and at a great price.

Google
Dark, quiet, has good cocktails and a good electro chillout playlist. The food is also very good, esp the apple fritter bites on the dessert menu. Open a location in Phx and I will be there.

I like Bourbon House because it’s got like a speakeasy vibe and a really great whiskey sour. I took my mama in on her birthday before seeing Wicked and we were able to sit down get drinks and talk before the show. It was a cool experience to share with her. The drinks are decently priced and every time I’ve gone in the staff has always been pleasant and quick.

Google
This bar is in a basement and can be hard to spot if you don't know where you are going. It has a cool atmosphere but definitely gets extremely crowded. There is a very small dancefloor. There is no cover charge, so that is nice. Drinks are a bit pricey, I paid $6 for a shot of vodka, but I guess that's how a lot of downtown bars are.

Love what the new management is doing with this place. Food was great, drinks were awesome, food was delicious and the service was fantastic. Definitely recommend!

On a Wednesday night, avoid this place if you have a group. We walked in at 7:30pm with a group of 10 and the place was completely empty. Let's just say, the server started with excuses of "being slammed." She left and returned 20 minutes later for drink orders. We managed to get her to take appetizer and food orders as well. Drinks were bought to the table and all placed at one end, leaving us to figure out who ordered what. Then the appetizers were bought one at a time in 10 min increments followed by meals that were completely cold and some that never arrived. The server made it clear that she couldn't find certain meals and they were running out of plates. AGAIN THE PLACE WAS EMPTY. Lastly, we had no room to even eat because all the dishes were left on the table the entire time. As a first time visitor to Utah, I would never return here.

Yelp
Great location, small adjustment needed. The lighting needs to be toned down a little. Too bright for the environment they're trying to create. The improved drink menu is spot on. The music ambience needs to be more towards bossa nova sound to create the perfect atmosphere. I have very positive feelings about where this spot is heading and what their plans are for this club.

Yelp
Repeal is in the old Bourbon House location. We are impressed by the makeover which made the entire space more comfortable and charming. The service was very, very good in spite it was a Saturday night during holiday season right after opening. Brock was our main attendant and he answered our questions and inquired if we had a hard stop, which we did and he had us out the door with one minute to spare. Timing of the courses were well planned. Hannah (a manager) stopped to check on us a couple of times and is very engaging. Generally I was very impressed with the attitude, friendliness and hustle everybody on the staff. Only one thing I felt was curious was that when the server placed the plates, he announced the dish including the side. This is different than what I was taught. I expect only the ingredients to be explained if there is a deviation from the menu only. It was starting to get a little noisy so there was confusion on our part as to what we got. Not a big deal. Generally the noise level was low to medium and the live music was pleasant. We are so tired of sitting down to a nice meal and have to yell our conversations. THANKS REPEAL! We had the Subsoil Chardonnay by the glass which was good. I had the Gorgonzola Thyme martini which was good for an experiment but having so many flavors nothing stood out as a great taste except the fig and blue cheese on the swizzle. Ordered two appetizers, one being a salad with roasted hazelnuts, berries and blood orange slices which was tasty. The other was the warmed hummus with caviar. This was such a delicious surprise since I have never had warm hummus before. The taste is earthy and rich. The added liquid seasonings with the caviar made it stand out, making it the dish of the night. Main courses were the chicken leg and shrimp on fettuccine. The fettuccine was well prepared a'dente, shrimp was perfectly cooked so it was like biting into a cloud. The seasoning was not a puréed affair but rather mixed in so every bite had a slightly different flavor, the suspense of every forkful was delightful. The chicken was a mixed bag however. The bird itself was well cooked and extremely flavorful. It was served on puréed chili beans with a hot sauce border. It was cold, which might have been the intention but was not very appetizing to us. My guest had never had dandelions before, the bitterness was a hard stop. There was a polenta cake with a fennel cheese butter which also wasn't finished. I tried everything on the plate and with exception of the chicken, the flavors did not play very well together. Dandelions are the last on my list for edible greens btw. We split the chocolate torte for dessert. Generally good but the whipped basil cream was scraped off. We both love basil but not on rich chocolate. The bill was a little more than we generally pay (martini $19) $168 w/o tip but overall we are glad we came and we will return as we keep trying new items that we can call our favorites in such a warm endearing environment.

Yelp
Wow!! What a total makeover and totally moody vibes! Since it took over the old Bourbon House my expectations were pretty low however I was blown away from the total makeover and vibes that this place has created. From the moment you walk in till you leave you feel you are in the coolest place. The food was delish and presentation great. The reason for not giving it 5 stars was, 1 no prices on anything and if there were the printing was cut off so if you had a budget to stay in this wasn't the spot. The staff wasn't unpleasant but they def didn't make it a memorable experience and when we went for a bday nothing was expressed wishing a happy birthday and when asked at the end of the meal to take a picture of the group I was met with a little bit of an attitude of they were above doing this for us. I would have been a little more ok if it had been busy, which I wouldn't have asked but it was completely empty in the front and the host was just on their phone. Despite the minor service and menu hiccups, I would still go as I just was in love with space layout and the Shrimp Lemon Fettuccini!

Yelp
Seek this out. The cocktails are top shelf in every way: creative, compelling, crushable. Live jazz plays behind the golden age ambience - the vibe cradles you in glamour. And the quality meets the moment. The small plates are indeed small, but they're refined rather than lacking. The octopus in particular is next level. Like escargot from a parallel universe. Entrees are more normal sized and equally well prepared. Huge shout out to the bartenders! We felt welcomed, valued, and almost immediately part of the Repeal family. This is a great spot for a romantic date night as well as just some quality cocktails. We're big fans.

Yelp
Such a cute little hidden spot! This is where Bourbon House used to be, and it's now a cute and classy little jazz bar. They have bites and drinks, and we went on a Thursday night and there was live jazz music. We were celebrating a friend's birthday and our server brought out a cake for her and the band played happy birthday. Such a great little spot, I can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Amazing ambiance, piano playing in the background. This is a hidden gem. Look for the owl. Come Dow the stairs and do not get on the elevator. Indulge yourself in the ambiance and amazing cocktails. Limited food menu, would definitely come to have a cocktail prior to dinner or even after. This is a must stop by!!

Elna P.

Yelp
Came in for our 6:15pm reservation to sit at our booth for 30 minutes for no one to serve us. We ended up leaving. There's a charge to the customers if we don't show up in ten minutes from our reservation time. The same rule should be applied to the restaurant owners.

Yelp
5/5 - Swanky Vibes, Killer Cocktails, and Top-Tier Service If you're looking for that perfect blend of class, creativity, and comfort--Repeal is it. From the moody, swanky interior to the next-level cocktail menu, this place is in a league of its own. With a jazz band included! Let's start with the drinks: the Molé Espresso Martini is unreal. Rich, bold, a touch spicy, and totally unforgettable. The Paloma is another standout--bright, crisp, and ridiculously smooth. Every cocktail is crafted with intention and flavor-forward flair. Service? Impeccable. Angelo, Caleb, and Ethan were our servers and absolutely crushed it--attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely kind. He gave great recommendations and brought such a chill, welcoming energy to our table. And huge shoutout to "Gizelle" the GM--you can tell this space is a reflection of her. She brings style, warmth, and a fierce attention to detail that ties everything together. From the atmosphere to the staff to the drink program, J has created something really special here. This isn't just a bar--it's an experience. Whether it's a date night, a cocktail meetup, or a solo unwind spot, Repeal nails it every time.

Yelp
**note** I came here hoping for jazz music, drinks and atmosphere, not dinner. I had been looking forward to visiting repeal since its opening, I love that space and jazz music. The space had so much potential to be great however, a jazz club/lounge has an energy, an ambience and it was missing this on every level. The lighting was too bright, the jazz players were placed near an exit door and the kitchen door so anytime the waiters (which is often) went to the kitchen an even brighter light appeared, distracting from the players. I didn't stay long enough to order a drink or food, the atmosphere didn't warrant a $18-$27 cocktail. The Jazz players were great, I have no doubt they book talented musicians however for anyone who's looking to get more of a Jazz club/lounge experience you will disappointed this might just be a better spot for dinner with music in the background.

Yelp
We found this spot on a recent girls trip to Salt Lake City. When we went downstairs we were instantly in love with the chill vibes, lounge area, live jazz & adorable Italian waiter who took care of us all night. The drinks were amazing but when the food came out we were losing our minds. We've never said "Oh My God!" so many times outside of a church or a bedroom. 10 out of 5 stars! If you come to Salt Lake & don't find yourself here you're doing something wrong.

Rachel W.

Yelp
There I was having a delicious dinner with the love of my life. You ask what could make it better? Brock. Brock makes the experience as special as Christmas morning. Martini accruements 1000/10.

Ling H.

Yelp
Honestly, I've never been treated like this at a restaurant before. What they told me ahead of time and what actually happened when I got there were completely different. It felt like they just made things up on the spot. When I questioned them, the staff got really stiff and rude. Nothing made sense, and some of the excuses they gave seemed totally fake. On top of that, the way I was treated made me feel like there might have been some bias or discrimination involved, which is just not okay. All in all, this was a really frustrating experience. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone who expects honesty and basic respect.

Yelp
We found this wonderful restaurant on a Google search. Great hideaway restaurant downtown Salt Lake City. It's a little hard to find. Modeled after a probation speakeasy. Three-piece jazz, entertainment. Beautiful bar, nice decor. The food was excellent. For entrées three of us had the bison and the garlic shrimp with pasta. Several appetizers, including the octopus, lamb chops and venison carpaccio, all delicious. Great specialty drinks and a nice bottle of Spanish wine. Very friendly service with Miriam as the hostess and our server was Kiwi Kurt. They kept our water glasses full, and our drinks and food coming. Highly recommend recommended. Make reservations and dress nice.

Yelp
Repeal is the consummate period bar. Service is classy, music is SUPERB (many of my colleagues from the U jazz band often play nights here, so I can confirm they are the REAL DEAL, especially pianist Dereck Coombs), and the food is, yes, PRICEY, but doesn't impede on superb taste and presentation. In particular, the black ant caviar hummus is to die for. A great date spot and especially if you're a jazz cat like me, you'll find some kindred spirits here!

Yelp
This place was incredible, the ambience was awesome, the food was really inventive and interesting, and the drinks (especially the Minnie the moocher/forecast blue) were sublime. The perfect place for a date night, the live music really added an element to the vibe that we really appreciated. So happy that Salt Lake finally has a go-to spot like this.

Yelp
We waited over an hour and a half for our food, while other guests who arrived 30 minutes after us were already finishing their meals before ours even came out. The ambiance and music were amazing, but the service was far from it. We barely got waited on, and our drinks didn't arrive until much later. When the food finally came, it was bland, under-seasoned, and definitely overpriced. The appetizers were not only overpriced but arrived cold. If you're vegetarian or vegan like my girlfriend, this place will likely disappoint you as there are very limited and unappealing options. Overall, a frustrating experience--beautiful atmosphere, but poor service, overpriced and flavorless food, and not vegetarian-friendly

Sarah S.

Yelp
Food, cocktails, service, and ambiance were all fantastic! Can't wait for them to expand on their menu. Love the live music touch, and the food was really special for an amazing high quality meal. The food tasted even better than the wonderful presentation. Dirty martini 10/10, midnight espresso martini (with chili oil and whiskey) 10/10, regular espresso martini 10/10. Highly recommend! Don't skip out on the hummus with black ant caviar, definitely a must.

Katrina M.

Yelp
Thanks for the offer but I think we spent plenty of money on subpar food. Like I said we would try again but not on our dime. To many other places to try that could be better. We are foodies and as of now Junah is top notch! Rather go when we know the good is good and the employees know about what they are serving
google avatar

Ryan S.

Yelp
Service was a bit off, I had like 3 bartenders serving me, the foood wasn't quite what was expected, they might be trying too hard

Ryan T.

Yelp
We have been here twice and each time was amazing. The food is always on point, especially the hummus and fresh pitas, the grilled octopus, and the Lions Mane Frito. The drinks are excellent. The Blackened Branch is an event and perfect for a Jazz club. The music is great and just at the right level. But the service is what really stands out. They are attentive without being intrusive, genuinely interested in your experience, and able to offer so many perfect options based on your taste. Definitely going to continue going.

Yelp
5 Stars for ambience and live jazz music. 3 stars for service. 2 stars for food and drink. I'll start with the positive: the restaurant is beautiful. It has kind of an upscale art deco look to it. It's downstairs and has a dimly-lit, speakeasy feel. They had a live jazz musician who was really fun to listen to. He kept the volume reasonable so that we could talk, which I really appreciate at a restaurant/bar. Our waiter tried really hard. I can tell they wanted to give good service. But they had a very thick Filipino accent and spoke very fast, and both of us couldn't understand most of what they were saying. All of the wait staff interrupted our dinner for too much. There is a line between being helpful and being annoying. And both the busser and the waiter crossed it. You don't need to ask people how their food is every time you walk by. "Yep, this bite is also good." Be observant. Be available. But don't ask constantly if we need anything. It's just too much. Now the not so good. We both ordered house craft cocktails. And both weren't good. They were creative! But weird and not cohesive. I ordered the Minnie the Moocher (?) and it tasted like a strong apple pie. Too sweet and heavy for me. My friend ordered the special which was described as a spicy whiskey martini but tasted like espresso. Also really sweet and strong-flavored, didn't taste like it had booze at all. The most disappointing part was the food. Other than the lions mane app, everything was bland. Chicken? Bland. Polenta cake? Flavorless. Mushrooms and greens? Blah. My friend had the Osso Buco. And though I hadn't said a word about my food, he said "Wow. This is bland". I tried it and sure enough, it had a smoke flavor but that's about it. I think everything needed some salt? Anyway, the ambience and music were great. But we absolutely would not come back based on the food and drink. The menu needs some work.

Dee M.

Yelp
Repeal was lovely! Classy. Love the mood lighting, live jazz music, beautiful bar, and fun presentation drinks!!! The food was flavorful too. TYREE was AWESOME great service with a smile. He was constantly checking on our table and making sure all of us were taken care of. Thanks, Tyree + Repeal! We will be back. The manager, Jake, was also AWESOME! Stellar service.

Brian J.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this place. Had the garlic shrimp pasta dish and it was one of the best dishes I have eaten in a very long time. The strawberry salad was also wonderful. We did a Spanish desert that was kind of custardy fruit thing...it was also fantastic. This place was a great surprise. So nice to have a new go to place downtown!!
