Celebrate Pride at New Orleans Gay Bars, LGBTQ-Owned Restaurants, and Queer-Friendly Spaces | Eater New Orleans

"The Bourbon Pub and Parade — also known as the Pub — has a large downstairs bar, best to catch up with friends, as well as catch a breath between dancing. Don’t expect the big game playing on all the TV screens, because those are there for endless streams of music videos. The Pub is best known for the second-floor club with go-go dancers, karaoke, drag shows, and DJs on any given night. It just depends on what night of the week it is, but Sunday is always the best with guest performers, dancing, and sing-alongs. There’s special parties all Pride weekend long." - Beth D’Addono

The Best Bars on New Orleans’s Bourbon Street | Eater New Orleans

"Home to epic drag competitions, Bourbon Pub Parade opens at noon and stays open late, every day but Monday. Fun year-round but especially lively during Southern Decadence, when the wraparound balcony is the place to see and be seen." - Beth D’Addono

Just hosted a weekend 70th birthday in NOLA a weekend ago. Mikey the manager and his whole team were spot on with service, special requests, setting up the catered food upstairs, dancers, security and amazing bartenders David and Sam made the post-second line party upstairs special for 70+ guests from all over the country and Europe! We could not have had more fun- all thanks to the owner and fabulous team and this iconic New Orleans institution! Thank you!

Had we been in NOLA years ago, I would've hit up this place along with their surrounding counterparts more than once as I used to love nightlife/clubbing back in my younger days. Nowadays, I hate crowds and cover charges. Lucky for me, it was a Thursday night so both of my excuses for not going were non-existent. ATMOSPHERE: It's a two level establishment located at the end of Bourbon Street's "fun section", meaning the crowds and cluster of businesses are much thinner. The first level is open-air and where the majority of the people congregated around the large central bar. Music was a mix of pop/dance. The second level is air conditioned and sports a stage where karaoke was taking place. A wrap around balcony with high tops offers great views of Bourbon Street and people watching. This was a Thursday night so crowds were minimal, perfect to me. We hung out on the second floor and watched some karaoke but I preferred the balcony. BEVERAGE: Our tab included Vodka Cranberry & Grey Goose Martini for under $20. That's what I'm talking about! Drinks don't need to be overpriced. SERVICE: The male bartender on the second floor was friendly and a good mixologist. TIP: I love that you can take your drink to go! OVERALL: Fun and friendly bar with affordable drink prices.

Google
A giant gay bar in the French quarter on Bourbon Street. Often no cover when Oz has a cover. Awesome balconies especially for parades and decadence. My only real complaint is that they use a computer meter and so the drinks are not very strong and they cost twice as much as another bar two blocks away.

We purchased the VIP bracelet. Let's just say the staff is not very welcoming. My friend came in early on Thursday and showed up at 9pm, but they don't give out the already purchased entrance bracelets at that time. He had to pay to get in when though he already paid $100 to get in prior to arrival. The upstairs staff is snotty and we didn't feel welcomed. Save your money and spend it else where.

Excellent gay bar and club upstairs, cool staff and clientele. My first bartending job was here and colleagues were always helpful and friendly, as they are with customers. Really good music as well.

Google
I went 2 nights in a row. The first night I had an amazing bartender and made it perfect. I should've left it at one night. Night 2, the bartender took complete advantage of me, charged other people's drinks to my tab, claimed my debit card didn't work. Had security escort me to the ATM inside the bar, using the same card that didn't work, they demanded $140 from me and told me to leave before they called the police. Be aware of the shady bartender that'll try to take advantage of you and take your money.

Really great bar. Wayne is a real asset and takes time out to look after guests and get to know them.

Awesome and friendly staff! The atmosphere was very welcoming. I was celebrating my birthday, with a night out dancing, & the bartender made me feel welcome & the dj was fabulous about playing songs I requested.

Yelp
The drinks are cheap. The clientele is fantastic and the bartenders are awesome. This is our favorite bar on Bourbon st. They welcome all! ***update*** After reading some of the other reviews I wanted to add a couple things. My wife and I are a straight couple and both of us were treated exceptionally well, they very much welcome Women of any orientation, As for the friendliness of the bartenders well, we were down in NOLA for the first time ever in September 23 and came in to this place several times, we were back in NOLA a few weeks ago, and not one, but two separate bartenders actually remembered us from one visit 8 months earlier. Remembered what we drank, where we were from, that our kids are LGBTQIA+. Even when we were there for Pride and came in after the parade to a packed house we got great service.

Yelp
The drinks were cold and the temperature was so very hot. But who can resist a terrace to watch the shenanigans on Bourbon Street. Bartenders friendly and the drinks so delicious. Oh how I love people watching on Bourbon Street! Until next time!

Yelp
Popped in here with a small group on a Sunday during the FQ Holiday Home Tours. Just for a drink and a bathroom break but sat at the bar for a few to catch a bit of the football games. Not many people in during the Saints game but the bar area looked to accommodate many seats for possible guests. Seemed like a place that cared for regulars but not newbies. 1 double jager with redbull ran $22 + 20% tip. Highest drink price I've experienced in the quarter. A block down the road and I had the same drink for $13 including tip. Just over all not that welcoming plus expensive.

Yelp
An absolute gem of a find. Amazing and friendly employee who gave us some very good recommendations around the city

Yelp
Bourbon Pub is one of the bars right in the Quarter. It is pretty large and has a friendly if not chatty crowd. Enjoyed watching some crowd favs like Bette and Barry Manilow as well as Ethel Merriman. The crowd was older but the songs were familiar to the younger. Drinks were cheap.

Yelp
We ended up here a few times - Once during the day just to get a cold beer and rest our feet, then later that night when they were hosting karaoke. The second night we came here they were projecting segments of movies and TV shows and musicals on all the screens, while patrons at the bar sang along with those show tunes and musical numbers. Always a fun time! Employees here were friendly, and one of them told us he'd been there for nearly a decade and until recently had the least amount of seniority, so the staff here seem to stick around for years. The clientele was made up of both tourists and also lots of locals who seemed to know each other, kind of like the gay version of "Cheers" in a way.

Yelp
White Guy that works down Stairs with a ponytailI around 220 pounds , was very rude, he was upset because I was not buying drinks from him , we were waiting for the Napkin hour, Some guy came and gave us napkins, before the show he asked us for the fourth time if wanted to buy a drink we said no thank you ( we were super exited and nice to him the whole time ) he took the napkins away from us in a very rude way !! I don drink !! I went with my partner who was drinking upstarts so we went down at 9:20 before the show that when this happened . We are from out of town ( so yes we were exited for the napkin show ) He needs to learn that there is people who just want to enjoy the company of other gay people, watch a drag show and go home and no drink !! . I know that he makes money by tips but I'm sorry I don't drink any more .

Yelp
Had a blast and would definitely visit again. The husband and I stopped by Bourbon Pub & Parade to wet our whistles on a late Sunday afternoon. The bartenders working upstairs were very nice and willing to chat with a couple of tourists. Since I'm writing this review a couple of months after our visit, I cannot remember the bartenders' names. However, I do remember that one of them was going to get Chinese food after his shift (yes, I always remember random things). I think one of our conversations focuses on guilty pleasure/comfort foods. Since we visited on a Sunday afternoon the bar was not jammed packed, which was great for us because we were able to sit at the bar and enjoy balcony seating. I will say this probably was one of my favorite LGBTQ+ spots that I visited during my trip. To be perfectly honest, I do not have any complaints about the Bourbon Pub & Parade.

Yelp
What a fun bar! Came in over Labor Day and attended Southern Decadence. Lots of go-go dancers. All the bartenders were great, shout out to Michael (tall dark and handsome). Gorgeous!!!

Yelp
Ambiance was great. Bartender was sweet and the second floor balcony overlooking Bourbon Street a perfect place for a delicious cocktail. The patrons are friendly too

Yelp
My brother loved this place! He specially love the karaoke they were doing since that's his thing. While there, we met a lot of people that I consider migratory regulars. They would meet up around the same time of the year in the same bar because they loved it so much. The ambiance is pretty chill with table to play and descent drinks.

Yelp
Love love love this place! Sunday night ladies of lipstixx drag show is absolutely amazing!! One of my favorites in the city! If your in town looking for a good time I definitely recommend this place!

Yelp
David is absolutely the best bartender on bourbon street. The whole atmosphere was awesome I would recommend to anyone. Best service

Yelp
I loved this place! Toby was amazing and made us feel welcomed and so at home that we came back to see him the next! We will come back to this bar every time we come to this city because of him

Yelp
$9 for a small cocktail... and they used Skol vodka. That's one of the worst vodkas out there. The price of the small cocktail would pretty much cover the cost of the whole bottle. At that price, they can definitely be pouring better liquors from their well. Not only does it make their drinks taste bad, it's a good recipe for a hangover. To me that says they don't respect their customers, hence my 1 star rating.

Yelp
I have been a customer of The Bourbon Pub and Parade for about 20 years! I always thought the place was great and I dont believe I have ever had any 1 of my 15 trips to New Orleans without a stop here. I remember a bartender Kevin who always remembered me and what I drank even if I only saw him once or twice a year. At one point I proclaimed it Americas Greatest Gay Bar! Facebook reminded me last week that my all time most liked picture was taken on the balcony of the Pub/Parade. The last few years though I have really started to not enjoy my time there and found myself some new favorites. In April this year service during a slow happy hour was unwelcoming and never was offered a drink or any service , I just left. This week when I returned It was just chaotic, not in a good way like the service staff imploded and I again couldn't get a drink. I realize It was a festival but there is always something going on here so be ready and make sure your bartenders can actually bartend. We returned the next day on Saturday about 3:30 an low and behold we got that coveted corner table with a view of The Bourbon St Extravaganza. We purchased lots f $8 dollar well drinks and beers over several hours and held our ground at that corner table. Just before the show was about to begin Management/Ownership told us to move, that the tables were reserved. Our table was not the only one told to leave to make way for friends of the owner. This place has become so poorly operated and its a shame. Thank goodness there are so many other options!!!! today my Southern Decadence Facebook group was flooded with a very long stream of negative remarks about ownership including posts from former employees and promoters. The thread was started by the guys at the table next to us. Of course we posted our account as well. It's obvious that current ownership just doesn't care any longer.

Yelp
Stopped in for karaoke night! Super cute place. Bartender was quick with the drinks. It was the only place we stopped in while walking down bourbon street.

Yelp
I really wanted to go to Bourbon Pub & Parade when I was planning my vacation, I travelled to Mardi Gras solo, and where is the safest place for a female travelling alone? Definitely a gay bar. My best friends in life have always been gay men. I'm straight but that didn't matter. Everyone was welcome. The bar was decorated for Mardi Gras season, and they were playing great music videos. Songs I absolutely love. The bartender had a great sense of humour and made me a fantastic drink. I asked for something coconutty and told him to surprise me. He made me a very delicious drink. I was having fun just sitting there, but then four men came in. There were three empty stools to the left of me and an empty one to my right, so I moved down so they could all sit together. This sparked a conversation between us, and I ended up meeting four of the nicest guys in the universe! We talked all evening, and they ended up buying me drinks all night no matter how much I protested. They would only let me tip the bartender. The guy sitting beside me left his sunglasses on when he went to the bathroom, so the bartender put them on. When he came back, he didn't even notice! It was so funny because the bartender even asked him if he liked his sunglasses and he just said yes. We were all laughing and joking constantly. Another bartender came on later. He had such a dry wit. He had us laughing every time he opened his mouth. I kept to my coconut drink, but the guys bought us all a shot called a Green Tea, It was really delicious, not one of those shots that burns all the way down. It was a Monday night, and they had karaoke. The singers were fantastic, and the waitress sang a song. She had such a beautiful voice. I can't believe she doesn't have a record deal! All the guys danced with me. I haven't danced in several years. It was so much fun! They even got me to sing a karaoke song, Lady Gaga's Bad Romance. My new best buddy sang with me and danced. It was just so much fun to open up and do something that I wouldn't usually do. They made me feel comfortable putting myself out there. Unusual for a Monday night (maybe not on Bourbon Street, lol) a guy came in and literally fell off his stool onto the floor. It was a good thing those guys were there. They found his brother and helped to get him up (he could NOT stand) and called the ambulance, as he likely had alcohol poisoning. They even asked a fortune teller if they could borrow one of his chairs and set him up in it. Really good people in there. I hated to say goodbye to them. It really was the most fun I had my entire vacation. I will definitely stop in the next time I visit NOLA.

Yelp
This was the last bar I went to the first night I went to Bourbon Street (For the time being, this is where the street construction starts at, that will probably change in the future). We ventured in here because it looked welcoming and had stools that were empty. Mind you this was on a Thursday before things started to turn up. The atmosphere was pretty uplifting and very welcoming. Funny story, all the people that were with me were straight. I had excused myself to use the bathroom (really nice by the way). When I came back my one friend leaned over and said, "I have to ask you a question." I was like OK, "Is this a gay bar?" It honestly didn't even register to me because a bar is a bar. He then pointed out that the music was EDM (which doesn't mean anything) then the advertisements posted around on the wall. What was probably the huge hint here, the fairly large rainbow banner. So yeah, we were in a gay bar was my answer. It was cool, they didn't care, they just wanted to make sure. The service here was amazing. We loved the bartenders, they were hilarious and very in tune with the area. We had questions on where to go for so many things and they steered us in the right direction. We did head back that way the next night (Friday) and there was a cover. Not sure what type of event was going on, so piece of advice, check their website for events going on throughout the week, that will give you a heads up if there will be a cover or not. This place is definitely a shining beacon on Bourbon Street. Very welcoming and a fun atmosphere.

Yelp
I was in town unexpectedly last minute and crossed paths with this gem! It was pride weekend and the festivities were in full swing. I can't wait to come back!!! The drinks were great and the company was so fun
google avatar

Howard G.

Yelp
If it's your first time to NOLA come to Bourbon Pub & Parade! Day or night, it's a great time!! At night, you can usually get a seat upstairs and watch the crowd dance. Prices are good! Obviously this is a rainbow bar aka GAY! So, get ready to relax, enjoy, have a good drink or 12 and whether you're gay, straight or from Mars, no problem with you being here. You'll have fun! I've been coming here for over ten years...always a great, fun time.
google avatar

Jose R.

Yelp
Damn. $8.25 for a Bacardi & DC? @ 6:30pm on a Friday? The place isn't even busy. Maybe 10 patrons in the lower level. Shift change: the new bartender has been too, WAY too, preoccupied with his 3 friends to ask if I'd like another cocktail. Next! With so many options one would think customer service would be a priority. Then again, it's Bourbon Street.....they know they're gonna get their money one way or another. Pity.
google avatar

Grace L.

Yelp
Such a fun place!!!! Beautiful half naked men dancing on the bar table. So happy to be there and the best part are the music choices. Very pop music that is easy to sing along to and lots of eye candy. The patrons of this bar are very welcoming and very friendly. The bar down stairs is free. Make sure you tip and grab a beer. Upstairs..mthere is a cover fee... What makes me love this place is how freely people can express themselves! Enjoy themselves! And many allies to the LGBT community can. Also be part of this very entertaining bar. Enjoy and free to take photos. You might get lucky that the dancer will strike a pose for you! Tip the dancers. Tip the bartenders.
google avatar

Maria K.

Yelp
Gay club with two levels and bars, dancing floor. Packed in a Saturday night! Friendly staff and welcoming place.

Yelp
We had a great Time with Toby such a great and friendly atmosphere he is by far one of the best bartenders that I have ever seen. Great Guy and a great experience very friendly.

Yelp
This place is kept old SkoOL cool by the whole staff. The bartenders are excellent. Yes, women are welcome. Whether you a complaint of Karens, a pod of Presidental daughters, lesbian secret shoppers for Tommy Hilfiger or the Grace to a Will, all are welcome. Toby is awesome. Direct all complaints, I mean, compliments to him. Sissy, the powerbottom, and Travis are excellent as well. Love being welcomed back to this place. Miss the dancers but this is the NWO now. Sigh.

Yelp
Soooo . . . I'm a firm believer in not writing negative reviews. That being said . . . I've been here twice and I'm not being negative, I'm just giving a heads up. If (and I'm guessing it's a policy) you're female, don't bother coming here. Our first night we went inside and were told we had to take our "fishbowls" out. While I understand that's a policy, there were 13 of us and only three had fishbowls. So there were 10 of us (all female) that were ready to dance and pay for a LOT of drinks. Not biggie. We all left. The very next night (only twelve this time) we decided to give it another shot. We ordered 13 drinks. Between the noise (totally acceptable) and our yelling, the bartender only got twelve drinks. Not only was it a $96 tab, we also tipped $26! We realized we missed a drink (within two minutes) and went back to the bar. It took approximately 22 minutes during the shift to get a Makers Mark on the rocks. THEN the bartender said $11!! One shot and 32 minutes later. I can only assume that the female dollar doesn't count as much here. The vibe is fun but unwelcoming and even though it was Mardi Gras (where everything is supposed to be good) we definitely didn't feel welcomed and absolutely didn't feel that women were supposed to be here.
google avatar

Heather O.

Yelp
The atmosphere is great. The bartender was super nice. The music was perfection! The women's bathroom was dismal. This spot was easy to get in and out of. Even with the heavy drilling equipment working in the street outside it was easy to still have conversation inside and not feel like part of the construction zone. I'm told this is one of the places to be for then decadence parade! The bartender made my drink to perfection! Was super cute, well spoken, and full of good convo for us!

Geoffrey G.

Yelp
I had the best time here. Toby was our bartender for 3 day and he gave excellent service. I came to town with three other bartenders and they were just amazed at the fact that Toby could remember our drinks after we ordered one time. The pub itself was very clean and it had a nice atmosphere. Very friendly staff. #newfavoriteplace

Yelp
Visiting from Minnesota and this was our favorite gay bar in NOLA. Bartenders were great especially Toby who was so friendly and awesome. Will definitely be back!!

Nolan O.

Yelp
Straight or gay is irrelevant when coming to this place. Amazing sing along Sunday with quality song picks and excellent service. I went up to Charles the bartender when I first got there and introduced myself, he took care of me the rest of the night priority and made sure I was having a great time. Big shout out to him and the bar in general. Even if you're in NOLA for a very limited time I highly recommend stopping by
google avatar

Kelly S.

Yelp
LOVE THIS PLACE!! The bartenders are so gracious even when dealing with a group of "Karens" who think they can do anything they want! I was behind a group of 4 that wouldn't wear masks, demanded that they get bigger drinks for less money, and the guy behind the bar handled the situation really well. By the time I finally got my drink, he had been through the wringer and still had a smile for me. True Southern hospitality!
google avatar

Brandon P.

Yelp
This bar is very upbeat and a huge +because it has a fireplace. While my friends and I were out and about on Bourbon Street I needed to pee really bad before we left and ended up in a gay bar! True story They have a huge screen right above the bar playing all kind of music videos everybody having a good time and many drinks customized by the bartender. A big deal breaker for the bathrooms is there is one big main bathroom with multiple stalls for men however the women's bathroom is a one person occupancy only. Bummer for the ladies. It's definitely okay because they make up for it with dancing! There's ample room for dancing and walking as the bar is in the center of the establishment with very wide walk room around in a square. We did not stay long but for the 30 minutes we were there it felt like we partied all night like it was 1999! Fun place for gays and straights alike! Get lost on Bourbon and have some bourbon French Quarter Style!
google avatar

Steve I.

Yelp
My favorite bar on Bourbon St!! This is one of the friendliest bars you will ever come to. Everyone there, including the bartenders, are so laid-back and welcoming. I always have a great time here. Last week I went there around 2am and stayed till almost 7am. They were showing old school videos all night long. It was loud in there (got even louder when they played Britney videos for about half an hour) and so much fun. This is one of the bars that makes the Quarter unique to me!
google avatar

Charles C.

Yelp
This local gay bar had very reasonable pricing on their drinks. They have both an upstairs and downstairs. The upstairs has a balcony that you can sit and watch the craziness unfold on Bourbon Street. They play pretty good music, and for the most part, the bartenders and staff were friendly. A great spot to try out!
google avatar

Faith A.

Yelp
Yes yes yes!! The pub! Gay, straight, bi, purple, skeleton, whatever just come as you are and have a good time. I do not like any bar on bourbon as much as this one. This is one of the few bars where its not filled with tourists, but mostly regulars and locals. They play the absolute best music ever. Each night is a different theme so check it. One star off because it's cash only, unless it's recently changed!
google avatar

Alexandria Y.

Yelp
I have return again! While things are changing due to Covid, this spot is excellent. Of course I looked for Brandon. He is the best! He still has the big bright smile which you need in life. The atmosphere was great, friendly staff and even the other patrons. Even took a pic with a group of people in town for the college game. I will return for another drink & great time.
google avatar

Genevieve F.

Yelp
The guy behind the bar was so nice and so flaming! I was buying a drink for a homeless guy and asked for his strongest drink. He bounced around and fixed me something and then stuck the straw in my mouth to have me try it. To fun!
google avatar

Benjamin M.

Yelp
By far the best gay bar in New Orleans. This place is like everything you want wrap up in one. I've been going here since I was15 and I'm now 41 and I still have the very best time. Love all you guys and thanks for all you do for us here in New Orleans...I'm so glad that this bar is still going strong today.
google avatar

Andrew B.

Yelp
One of my favorite bars in New Orleans. Always a good time and the pour is right. Good music and good views of a parade
google avatar

Jasmine C.

Yelp
Much like the darling Oz, it is open 24/7. This place likes to keep it bumping. My friends and I often go back and forth between the two. We used to frequent quite regularly and the bartenders kindly kept us supplied with coffee all night- liquor added of course.
google avatar

Zander L.

Yelp
Was there for the week of Halloween. The decor was great and the drinks were good. Very cool vide inside . Love the balcony . The music was great they were playing some good ole classic horror music from movies and pop stars. Great time here. Not sure how it is when it isn't Halloween tho. I would recommend stopping in for a drink.

Yelp
Way gay and fabulous! They are saints fans but super fab! Nice service Laid back Great disco music lol Drinks are small but strong Don't allow outside drink FYI

Yelp
This review is for the Diva Royale show that is held here. What a scam. Paid $20 extra per ticket for guaranteed seating in first 6 rows, but when we got there, there were only 5 rows of chairs. Paid $60 to bring a friend on stage in advance, then they brought a TON of girls on stage during the event and I know not all of them paid in advance, highly doubt they paid $60 on the spot. Was hardly a drag show. Yes, there were 3 or 4 drag queens who lip synced. No props or dancing or anything tied to a typical "show." They just brought girls on stage, and male strippers did funny things to them. Yeah, the guys were hot. But not worth $45/ticket.

Yelp
Amazing service! Finding a lesbian friendly place is not always easy and this is the place! My wife and I sat with Toby (bartender) for hours and had great conversation! The bar owner is lesbian as well! If any fellow lesbians decide to make a pit stop, be sure to tell Toby that Heidi & Cindy from Chicago sent you!

Yelp
Bald white guy was so rude, calls himself a manager when he was so unprofessional, I paid the same amount for a drink and got a smaller cup and I noticed I didn't get the same amount of drink, he was rude since the moment I said hi, I would not recommend going here at all, when I complained he was shaking his head and said "this is so fucking stupid", he was mad when I'm the customer and I should feel mad.

Yelp
They vary widely between a great place to be and a sad simulacrum of a sports bar. They are not the only bar to have this bizarre tendency. At the drop of a hat, they will interrupt the best night in the city, Sunday nights, to present to you the same fucking football game that is playing on the TVs of other fucking bar in the city.
